Age of Destruction: Fire Emblem CYOA

"Everyone, charge," Alice says softly, just loud enough for everyone outside to hear.

She throws open the door, already casting a fireball towards one of the spearmen.  It catches him in the chest.  Before he can even finish turning around, another hits him in the face and he drops to the ground, dead.  Eun'ji looses an arrow at a sage, striking him in the chest and easily piercing his thin armor.  Sylvia prepares a gust of wind, firing it off at another halberdier.  It grazes past him, knocking him off-balance long enough for Fei to slash his neck with her axe.

"Alright, Rhett.  You're up!" Suarrure says.  Rhett charges forward, attacking one of the sages with his axe.  He manages to chop his arm before the sage hits him with a bolt of lightning from nowhere.  Suarrure starts dancing for him, and Rhett quickly turns and swings again.  This time his strike lands squarely in the sage's chest.

Nevyn and Mina both move to attack the last halberdier.  While Mina draws his attention, stabbing at him with her lance, Nevyn moves to flank him.  Mina manages to land a weak blow to his shoulder, which gives Nevyn plenty of time to bury his axe in the soldider's back.

Kelly rushes the last sage.  She swings her sword, but he easily sidesteps the blow and unleashes a burst of flame right at her face.  She manages to twist enough that the blast doesn't kill her, but it still leaves her dazed and injured.  Gin follows close behind her, lunging and thrusting his spear right past her to kill the sage.

"To arms!" the man in armor calls out.  "Formations, now!"

The axe fighter, swordmasters, and myrmidon all move to the armored man's sides.  The four archers and clerics rush to get behind them.  The dancer moves to help the lagging cleric get in formation, and the group moves to face Alice and her team.

(A) Form up and advance slowly
(B) Try to rush the enemy before they can get everyone in position
(C) Pull back to the doors and block them in

Alice's forces group up and begin advancing slowly.  The enemy commander gives some simple hand signals and his forces begin retreating at the same rate.  The archers take a few shots, leaving Rhett with a grazing injury.  Alice and the other mages throw a few spells as an answer, wounding one of the swordmasters.  The myrmidon gets knocked off-balance by a burst of wind magic, and Sylvia is quick to hurl a fireball at his landing point.  The second attack finishes him off.

As the enemies retreat, they make their way towards that large, open balcony.  The archers take positions near the edge and prepare to volley, while the swordmasters and general form a line to protect the others.

A loud wyvern shriek draws Alice's attention.  She looks past the enemy and notices a dozen wyvern riders approaching well off into the distance.

Pixie and Allune burst through the entrance to the room, the crow short of breath.  Allune quickly surveys the situation.  "They're trying to escape!"

Alice hesitates for a moment.

(A) Rush the enemy before they can escape
(B) Continue approaching cautiously and try to pick off a few of them
(C) Stand ground and watch what happens
(D) Fall back in case they enemy wyverns join the fight

"Pick them off, carefully," Alice orders.

Alice and Sylvia both hurl fireballs at one of the swordmasters. The general steps in the way, casually blocking both. "Try again, quickly - right there!" Suarrure yells encouragingly as he dances for Alice.

She quickly takes a half-step back, pivoting on the ball of her foot as she pirouettes. "Oh spirits of flame..." she calls, hurling a large fireball directly at the enemy commander. The blast strikes him square in the chest, knocking him back. The swordmaster he was protecting braces and helps to catch him. One of the clerics hurries to his side, her staff already glowing with a healing spell.

"Oh no you don't," Eun'ji mutters. "This is for my sister." She looses an arrow through the cleric's wrist, causing her to drop the staff. While the cleric is distracted, Eun'ji quickly fires another arrow into her neck.

Rhett, Nevyn, and Fei all throw axes towards the group of enemies. A swordmaster easily dodges one axe, only for it to strike one of the archers in the leg. Another swordmaster deftly cuts one axe out of the sky, then takes a glancing blow to his shoulder.

Kelly stays to the back, fumbling for her vulnerary. Pixie, unwilling to approach the archers, hangs back to help her apply it. Allune moves forward, staying just out of their range while she waits for an opening.

Mina takes a step forward and hurls a javelin at the enemy general. Recovered from the fireball, he swings his sword and swats it aside. Snowy tries to use the chance for a javelin of her own, but he grabs it from midair with his other hand and throws it to the ground. He glances at Eun'ji for a moment, then points his sword directly at Alice.

The archers release a volley of arrows at her. Alice uses the momentum to toss herself to one side, dodging past the first arrow. The second claims a shred from her dress. The third arrow goes far wide, but the fourth catches her directly in the chest. She gasps and drops to her knees as the enemy's dancer performs for the lucky archer. He readies another arrow, takes aim with his bow, and lets it fly. Gin jumps in the way, the missile bouncing off his shield.

Alice checks and finds the arrow only partially penetrated her armor. She grabs it and pulls it free, then grabs Gin's shoulder to help herself stand.

The enemy wyverns arrive, a half-dozen of them as well as their leader, and begin landing on the platform.

"If we don't attack now we're going to lose them!" Snowy shouts.

(A) Charge!
(B) Stick to the plan - try to take a few out and let the others escape
(C) Not worth the risk now that the enemy has reinforcements - fall back

"No!" Alice calls to Snowy.  "Please don't take unnecessary risks."

"But they're going to get away!" Snowy argues.

"That's not why we're here," Alice says.  "Everyone, try to pick them off from afar!"

Anyone with bows or magic advance as the enemies rush to mount the wyverns and take to the sky.  As they retreat, they're bombarded by spells and arrows.  One of the wyverns goes plummeting out of the sky, bringing its riders with it.  Another is injured and breaks off from the pack.  Snowy, ignoring Rand's orders, spurs her pegasus to pounce on it.  She stabs the wyvern through the neck and sends that one crashing to the distant ground, as well.  The enemy's commander easily blocks an arrow meant for his rider with his shield as they escape out of range.

"...Dammit!" Snowy yells as she lands.  "Dammit, dammit, dammit!  Why did you stop us!?" she demands.  "If we could have brought them down, then we could have stopped..."  She trails off, grabbing her elbow and looking away.  "I'm... sorry.  I shouldn't... be yelling at you.  I'm just...  Excuse me for a few moments."

"Yeah," Alice says.  He watches quietly as she takes to the sky and glides down towards the bodies.

When Rand manages to make his way up the stairs with help from Pixie, he's greeted by the sight of his troops exhausted and disheartened, looking over a field of bodies.  "Rand," Hyun'ji calls from the door at the far side of the room.

"What's wrong?" Rand asks, walking over.

"...The Voice is dead," Soo'ah says.  She collapses to the ground, breaking into tears.  "I'm sorry.  I'm so sorry...  We failed you, Lord Hyun'ji..."

"Peace, Soo'ah.  You'll rip open your wounds," he says.  He looks over the battlefield, littered with the bodies of the other defenders.  "You and your sisters have done all in your power, and all anyone could ask of you.  I will speak in your favor when we bring the report before the emperor."

"Your father..." Soo'ah says, sounding to be in shock.

"Damn..."  Rand is quiet for a moment.  "Right.  We need to report this..."

"We need to tend to our wounded first," Hyun'ji says.  "Mina.  Lead the others to check for any other survivors.  Alice, Prince Rand, help me tend to the Voice's body..."

Everyone splits up to begin their tasks.
