Let us Begin.
300 years ago, the world ended. No one is really sure what happened, but when one world ended, another began. The planet Ichor experienced rapid change after a cosmic event nearly wiped out all life on it, saved only by the sacrifice of the Sun god Aurelis, creator of humanity. Now, the world has been shaped anew. The continents have been separated by cracks in the planet, where time and space are warped, and lead straight to the void. Leylines, lines of natural energy crisscross the planet, returning the areas they run through to a more primal state, and charging the metal around them with alchemical energy, creating an element known as Lylitite, which has many unexplored properties.
No flora or fauna have been left unchanged, becoming vibrant and new. Even humans have not remained unchanged. Humans touched by the spirit of the planet have become Ley, a long-lived, colorful new species capable of wielding the primal energies around them in a form of magic known as Alchemy. Those who have not been changed by the planet have been touched by the moon. In the daylight, they look normal, but at night, they become monstrous giants.
Only in Bastion, the sacred city of the sun, did most of the human and animal population remain unchanged. A once proud and technologically advanced city, now stands alone as the last remnant of former world. Without its god to rule it, and without other peoples to seek aid from, Bastion was seemingly doomed to fall as soon as the last of its factories failed, but still it stands.
The races, angry, confused, and distrustful of each other, inevitably came into conflict. In the 300 years since the shift, seven great wars have occurred between the three races, the last occurring 100 years ago. Peace finally prevailed when the humans made a pact with the Ley to drive the entirety of the Ware over the mountain barrier separating the North continent from the South, all desert and plains. For their help, the Ley made a contract with the humans, vowing never to settle within 1,000 miles of Bastion, and any deaths of Ley caused by humans within that boundary, would be considered defense, and not an act of war.
Since then, the Ley have spread west, filling the land, each Ley with a following considering themselves a lord, and with land, a king.
Humans remain faithfully inside the walls of Bastion, with few external settlements, well within sight of the outer wall.
And Ware remember what was stolen from them, and collectively dream of the day they return to the north. Things might have stayed this way, except twelve years ago, promises were made, paths were chosen, and a spark was struck.
