File 1) engaged: The Origin of Magic
It began in a sterile white room with a handful of researchers huddled around a monitor waiting for results on their grand experiment. They had just initialized a large mass particle accelerator, in order to probe the workings of the sub-atomic universe. What appeared on the screen was not what they had expected. When the particles collided the shock opened a minuscule rift in the fabric of space, and through this rift sub-atomic particles from another universe seeped in. These particles operated outside the conventional laws of physics. For years the researchers quietly experimented with the particles, sworn to secrecy by the governments that had sponsored them. Eventually they divined the rules by which the exotic particles were governed, and with that knowledge they created technology which utilized the growing supply of the exotic particles. Still held as a state secret the technology was applied to military ends, but as usually is the case espionage led to opposing nations also gaining weaponized exotic particles. Thus began the magic cold war.
