Somewhere within a lab, a woman works tirelessly. Books line the walls and can be found scattered around the floor and tables. Flasks of various concoctions sit around as well. The room is lit mostly by candles set up around the desk. The woman sitting there can be seen by the dim light.

Her hair is long and dark with a streak of red. Her clothes are black and red robes. Only the basics. After all, it means nothing what you wear if you waste time worrying about that instead of research. Her eyes are a red color and reflect the light of the fire brilliantly. Her pen moves gracefully across the paper as she documents recent discovery.

Suddenly, a crash is heard. Silently, the woman looks up and glances over her shoulder. Nothing there. No time to waste worrying about stupid things. There's work to be done.

I will bring you back. Nothing will stop me. Nothing...

Suddenly, the room rumbles. A dark summoning circle appears on the ground as a monstrous shadow appears. The woman turns her head once again and glares with annoyance. "I don't have time for you. There's RESEARCH to be done!" She stands and kicks her stool at them. "I won't rest until Lucius is brought back. I'll just dispatch you quickly!"

W-Wait...What was that incantation again...!? Wait, don't tell me I forgot how to use my elemental magic!

The shade is enraged and roars as more summoning circles appear. The lab is a bit crowded now. "No! I can't die until my research is complete!"

Then, in a similar fashion, a circle of light appears nearby. From within, a creature gracefully gallops out and drives back the shadowy monsters with a ray of light. "What the...?" Looking back up, she notices this new creature is some mix between a sheep and a deer. It has a long and slender, graceful body while still having warm, fluffy fur. Light seems to course through it and its antlers emit the most light.

I don't have time for questions. It looks like this thing is on my side. I will help it dispatch these foes so I can return to my work.

Floren unleashes a beam of light from its horns directly into one of the Shades, causing it to evaporate. Floren then lets out a grunt before unleashing a ray of light at another Shade, making it shrink back in pain. Cardinal casts a spell on Floren, causing a red light to glow around him before the two remaining Shades swing at the two of them with their claws. Both of them receive little more than a scratch thanks to Cardinal's protective magic.

Floren casts Light Beam! Shade receives 14 damage. Shade is defeated.

Spellboost! Floren casts Light Ray! Shade receives 6 damage.

Cardinal casts Protection! Floren's Ward increases by 2.

Shade attacks! Floren receives 1 damage.

Shade attacks! Cardinal receives 1 damage.

A ball of light is generated between Floren's antlers before he bucks his head, sending it flying into one of the full health Shades. Floren taps one hoof on the ground twice before leaping back into the back row.

"Hey! Get back here and fight these things!" Cardinal turns and sees the Shades approaching. She quickly heals her wounds from the first round before they attack, having their strikes mostly blocked out by her magic.

Floren casts Light Sphere! Shade receives 2 damage.

Spellboost! Floren steps back.

Cardinal casts Restore! Cardinal recovers 1 health.

Shade attacks! Cardinal receives 1 damage.

Shade attacks! Cardinal receives 1 damage.

Floren roars as multiple orbs appear around it and fly around, crashing into the Shades. It then lets out another roar as a wide ray of light flashes over the battlefield, evaporating a Shade. Cardinal keeps the last Shade busy with her defensive abilities.

Spellboost! Floren casts Light Ray! Shade receives 2 damage. Shade recieves 2 damage. Shade was defeated.

Cardinal looks around and dusts herself off. "Alright. Now that that's done..." She turns and returns to work before another loud crash followed by a roar sounds. "Damn. I'm not going to get anywhere like this! I'll just have to go outside and deal with it myself." She turns and heads out the door with the mysterious deerlike creature following her.

Heading outside, she notices the entire town is under siege by monsters. Shades seem to be everywhere. Buildings are ablaze. "Huh...? How long was the city like this? Well, whatever. Not like it matters to me. All that matters is my research. I have to find a way to raise the dead. And I won't be getting anywhere until I stop the summoner that's making these things."

Cardinal looks around. Those things are everywhere. Fighting them head on would be difficult. Most of the buildings here seem pretty destroyed. She hears what sounds like a cry for help, however. Coming from the blacksmith. However, she has a pretty good feeling the summoner she's looking for is at the castle. After all, there's a dragon attacking it in the background. It looks like it's currently engaged with some knights at the top of a tower.

"Hmm...What to do...?"
