Also worth mentioning that your units won't be permanently killed if they die here. They'll just look like totally scrubs in front of the town guardsmen.

Mina takes up a position at Rand's back, stopping the soldiers from surrounding him.
"Good to have you, Mina," Rand says. "Are you ready?"
"Of course, milord!" she says. "It's... just training, after all."
The fighters advance on Rand and Mina. Kelly swaps her sword for a lance and prepares to make another pass at Lily.

"Rand," Lily says. He nods in agreement.
"Be ready to cover Lily," Rand tells Mina. He pulls out his iron axe and moves intimidatingly at the soldiers. They shift back defensively.
Kelly levels her lance. Lily raises her palm. Kelly kicks her mount into a charge. Lily unleashes a ball of darkness in her path. Kelly was ready for it, and swerves to the side. Rand suddenly turns his back to the soldiers and leaps at Kelly while she's focused on Lily. She barely has time to register what's happening as Rand's axe strike slams into her side and knocks her out of the saddle. Her mount slows to a halt in confusion.
A dark sphere erupts from beneath the prone cavalier and she throws up her hands to protect herself. Lily intentionally detonates the dark energy just a bit too high. Kelly flops onto her back and stays stationary.
The soldiers rush as Rand, aiming at his exposed back. He whirls around and slashes blindly with his axe. He knocks one of the lances aside, but the other thrusts into his side. "Glancing blow," Sherry declares.
The fighters decide the soldiers have Rand under control and charge at Lily. Mina puts herself in their way. One swings high at Mina. She throws her lance up defensively. She catches the axe and fends tries to fend it backwards, but the fighter begins to overpower her. She lets one side of her lance drop, and the axe slides past her shoulder. Mina throws a punch with her free hand as she retreats to a better range. The fighter laughs and tosses his axe between his hands menacingly.
The other fighter rushes to Lily. She rolls backwards under his swing, a shadow tracing along the ground before she even regains her feet. It pops out from beneath the fighter and sends him flying. Another strikes him before he can recover.
"This looks fun!" a feminine voice announces cheerfully. "Can I join in?"
A young woman stands at the entrance to the training grounds. She wears a faded, worn-out, rough-spun jerkin, a long, bright skirt, and nothing else. A poofy tail pokes out from the small of her back. Her brown hair is coiled around a pair of long, floppy ears that drape over her shoulders. A blonde-streaked patch of hair folds over one of her deep brown eyes. She smiles amiably at the group.
"Oh. You're home early, Gale," Sherry says. "Where's your father?"
"Waiting at home. Said he was tired," the half-taguel answers. "He's getting old. But I wanted to see what you were up to. And it looks like I was right - a chance to spar with Rand and Lily!"
Sherry laughs. "Well, if you've still got the energy, these recruits could use a hand."
"Yes!" Gale cheers as she bounds into the battle. "I'm not going to hold back today, Rand!"
"Ha! Good luck!" Rand calls back tauntingly.
"Yeah? Your wyvern's not here to save you this time!"
"Leave Hector out of this!"

Lily draws her rapier and shoulders past Mina. "I'll handle this one, help Rand." Mina nods and runs to his side. Lily thrusts toward the fighter's chest. He jumps back and sweeps the blow away. He jumps into the air and brings his axe down. Lily doesn't move quite fast enough, and the blow grazes her arm. She swings horizontally, leaving a thin line of blood across his chest. He roars and swings wildly. Lily calmly backsteps, then thrusts into his gut. He groans and drags himself off to the healers.
Rand rushes the soldiers with his iron axe. As he targets one, the other stabs at him. The speed of Rand's charge carries him past the attack. Rand brings his axe down in a vertical chop. The soldier shifts back, and the attack leaves Rand off-balance. The soldier thrusts the shaft of his lance at Rand. Rand coughs as the blow strikes him in the chest. He swings his axe and slices through the soldier's weapon. He cracks the soldier in the head with the flat of his axe.
Mina inserts herself between Rand and the other soldier. He tries to force past her, but Mina stabs at his legs. He stumbles, and Mina swings the tip of her lance upward. It scrapes along his chest armor and she stops it at his throat. The soldier drops his lance in surrender and steps back.
Gale slams her palms into the ground. A wall of rock erupts from the ground and engulfs her. She bursts out in a shower of stone, her lithe frame replaced with that of a massive, muscular black rabbit. She leaps at Mina without hesitation.
The force of Gale's tackle knocks Mina to her back. Gale stands on her chest, fangs bared. Mina raises her lance horizontally to fend off the attack. Gale seizes Mina's lance in her teeth and, with a shake of her head, sends it skittering across the ground. With one paw still on her chest, Gale steps on Mina's visor and forces her head back, revealing her throat. Gale brings her head around and playfully nuzzles Mina's exposed neck. "Did you miss me?" she asks in a deep, distorted voice.
"G-Gale...!" Mina squeaks.
Sherry clears her throat loudly. "Having your throat ripped out by a... 'vicious' taguel warrior - that's not something any healer can fix. Dead. But all the recruits have been defeated, so victory goes to Rand and-"
"It's not over so long as the enemy commander's still standing!" Gale announces.
"Wait, who made you the commander?" Rand asks.
"I'm the only one still standing, so I'm the commander by default!" Gale says. "Now, which one of you am I taking on first? Or are you planning to be jerks and gang up on me?"

Rand and Lily exchange a glance. They start moving around either side of Gale. "Surrounding me? That's no fun," Gale says.
"Training isn't supposed to be fun," Rand says. Sherry nods in agreement.
"I never get to spend any 1-on-1 time with you," Gale pouts dramatically. "Lily or that stupid lizard always come between us."
Rand repeats himself. "I said leave Hector ou-"
Gale crouches low and lunges at him. She jumps up and kicks off his chest, twisting in midair to leap at Lily instead. The sudden attack catches Lily by surprise. Gale rakes her claws across Lily's back as she tries to twirl out of the way. Rand staggers backwards, then jumps after her. He manages to smash his axe into Gale's hindquarters before she can pick herself up after that sloppy, improvised maneuver. She yelps and kicks out with her powerful hind legs, sending Rand sprawling.
"Right, don't... ever go after her from behind," Rand reminds himself. He pauses to catch his breath.
"Your turn, Lily!" Gale taunts. Lily lunges in with her rapier, unleashing a flurry of stabs. Left, right, center... Gale weaves through the attacks with ease. "I'm gonna get you," she sings. Lily swipes horizontally. Gale rushes forward, low, headbutting through Lily's legs. Lily falls to her face with a pained grunt. Gale leaps onto her back and leans down to whisper in her ear. Rand dashes over and slams his shoulder into Gale. She bounces across the floor and immediately jumps up.
"She's so fast," Rand complains as he helps Lily up.
"Just be ready," Lily says, her calm countenance beginning to disappear.
Lily charges in with a rising slash. Gale jumps to the side and tries to leap behind her. Lily spins and lets her heel rise up in a crescent. Gale's momentum carries her right into the kick, but not before she manages to tear into Lily's flank with her claws, shredding right through the unarmored. Rand is on Gale immediately, slashing into her flank. Gale leaps back, panting heavily, but unready to surrender.
Lily looks at her now-bleeding side and throws her rapier down with an angry shout, determined to win. She gives up any sense of tact and tackles Gale. Gale tries to leap out of the way, but Lily manages to wrap a hand around one of her hind legs. Gale starts to panic and kick blindly, and Lily soon ends up with a strong grip on both her feet. Gale's left on the ground, unable to do much besides twist and struggle helplessly, unable to break Lily's grasp. Rand runs over, raises his axe, and starts to swing the flat of his axe down across her head. Gale suddenly reverts to her human form, still held by the princess. Rand manages to stop the blow inches from her brow.
"OK, OK, you win. No sense fighting the inevitable," Gale says. "Spoilsports," she adds with a pout. Gale leaps up, then offers Lily a hand.
"That was... an interesting tactic," Sherry says. "You see that, recruits? Don't be afraid to fight dirty if you don't think you can win. Good demonstration, princess."
Lily allows Gale to pull her up, then carefully straightens her hair, dusts herself off. "Ah. Thank you?"
