Have the wall fall back and heal. We nead all the help we can get....

I wonder if it would be possible to do both pelt the thing charging us while making our way towards the exit. This way if we can weaken enough we might be able to outright kill it but least we are not sitting ducks.

"That thing's a threat.  We need to try to take it down," Rand decides.  "But we'll run if it proves to be too much.  Focus on hitting it from range!"

Rand takes his hand axe back from Fei.  "Can you hold that thing back?"

Fei looks at it nervously, then grins.  "Looks like a good challenge.  Give me a sec."  She stretches a bit.  "Alright, yeah, let's do this!"  She flips her axe and charges.

"Stay defensive!" Rand orders.  She slows to a stop, ready to intercept.  "Judoc, we're going to cover her.  Mina, Nevyn, be ready to tackle those mercenaries the second they break in!"

Rand chucks his hand axe at the massive Risen, and Judoc tries to match his pace.  Their weapons fly over Fei's head and strike it.  Judoc's javelin stabs into its chest; Rand's axe embeds itself in the Risen's leg.  The Risen drops to a knee, and Fei takes the opportunity to step in, spinning in a circle to build momentum as she cuts into its side.  The Risen isn't defenseless, however, and slashes her with its claws.  It sends her staggering to the side with a pained scream.  She comes back to bury an overhead chop into its forearm.

The mercenaries hack away at the wall, and it finally collapses.  Mina and Nevyn barrel through the gap and plow into them.  Nevyn takes point, pinning one to the ground - taking a grazing stab wound in the process - while Mina stabs it in the head.  The other leaps at Mina.  She yelps and staggers back, the sword tip knocking against her helmet.  She counterattacks with a panicked thrust and misses completely.  Nevyn leaps to her aid and the pair double-team the Risen.

The massive Risen surges forward, collapsing on Fei like a sentient wave.  She yells in surprise as it crushes her.  Rand and Judoc stop throwing for fear of hitting her.  Fei desperately tries to hack her way out, finally forcing the thing off.  It glides back as a weapon-filled, face-covered, screaming puddle before reforming into its humanoid form.  Fei pants and applies a vulnerary as Rand and Judoc resume their attack.

One of Rand's throws severs the thing's arm and it drops to the ground, dissolving.  It leaps forward, reaching for Fei with its one remaining arm.  Fei meets its attack head-on, swatting the attack away and letting it rake across her back in exchange for a change to drive her axe into its chest.  It falls on top of her and starts to break apart.

Nevyn and Judoc are at her side by the time it's dissolved enough to reveal her.  She's stretched out on her back, clearly in pain.  She forces a smile  "That was... fun.  Never again, though."

"Are you OK?" Judoc asks.  He offers her a hand.

She pushes his hand away.  "I just... need a sec, OK?  Let me catch my breath."

"Take you time," Nevyn says.  "I think we're done for now...  The fog's clearing.  I still hear a few, but they're moving away."

"Oh.  Great.  In that case, maybe a quick nap..." Fei suggests as she closes her eyes.

"I don't think we have time for a nap," Rand says.  "They might come back.  We need to send word for- oh, no.  What if something happened to the Valerians?  Or...  What about our missing paladins?  And why would they attack here?  Why were they...  Why were Risen here anyway!?  They're supposed to be all but extinct!"

"Breath, Rand!" Mina orders.  "We need to stay calm and think.  Nevyn, what can you tell us?"

"Very little," Nevyn says apologetically.  "We were told to come meet and escort you.  We didn't even know about the mission until a few hours before we set out...  Just another intentional slight against my father, I'm sure."

"Um...  Stay on subject, boss," Judoc says.  "We showed up and things were already pretty bad.  We tried to help, but every one of us to fall was another for them.  Gods, they were endless..."

"Don't invoke the gods in vain, Judoc..." Nevyn orders.  "Eventually, we were forced to take shelter in the watchtower.  When we started running low on weapons, I decided to slip out and try to find help... any help.  And the gods heard my prayers..."

"I'm glad we could help," Rand says.  "But this... doesn't... explain anything..."

Mina places a hand on Rand's shoulder.  "We need to decide what to do next.  Do we wait for the paladins or...?"

"I really doubt they're coming," Judoc says flatly.

"Right, let's... take care of this..." Judoc says.  "Seriously, Fei, why do you always do this?"

"I dunno what you're talking about," she insists, relaxing on her stomach.  She crosses her arms and rests her head as Judoc begins treating the slashes across her back.  "Ow!  that hurts..."

Judoc shakes his head and goes back to tending the wound.  "Well, if you'd stop getting beaten up so badly..."

"Not all of us like wearing armor like yours.  It's uncomfortable and hard to move in...  Even if you make it look easy.  Plus, you're so-o-o-o good at patching m- OW!  Judoc...  That...  That really hurts..." she complains.

"Those Risen are walking corpses!  I've got to clean the wounds thoroughly.  Do you want to get infected and die?" Judoc asks.

"Nope, that'd be a pretty crappy way to go," she agrees.  "Get in there nice and deep.  Give it a good, hard cleaning, 'K?"

"I think I'm done.  Sit up so I can wrap the bandages," Judoc says.  Fei obediently rises to her knees.  Judoc crouches down beside her and starts wrapping her up.  "Seriously, Fei, promise you'll be more careful.  This is about the worst I've seen you.  I'd hate to lose you, y'know?"

"Aw, because you lo-o-o-ove me?" Fei teases.

"Yep," Judoc answers.  He gives the bandages a sharp tug and Fei yelps in surprise.  He ties the bandages off and pats her head with a chuckle.  "It'd be awful boring without you around, y'know?"

While Judoc patches Fei up, Rand and Mina head in to search the barracks.  "Are you OK?" Rand asks.

"Y-yeah, I'm fine," Mina assures him.  "Sorry if I was a bit curt earlier..."

"Oh, no, don't worry about that," Rand assures her.  "I appreciate it.  Really.  It's nice having someone not afraid to tell me when I'm doing something stupid or when I'm being too hesitant...  You can think of yourself as an official adviser, y'know?"

"Oh.  Adviser.  Great..." Mina says, crawling under a bed to pull out a vulnerary.

"I mean, not just an adviser.  You're also one of my closest friends," Rand says.  Mina smiles out of sight.  "Er...  By the way, that was our first real battle, huh?"

"Y-yeah..." Mina realizes.  "You... handled yourself really well.  No hesitation."

"I wasn't really thinking, I just fell back on my training...  It was nice having you watching my back," Rand tells her.  "You OK?"

"I was... so scared," Mina admits.  "But I won't leave you, Rand."

Nevyn finishes scouting the perimeter and walks in.  "Are you two well?"

"Yes, I'm fine," Mina says.

"A bit shaken, but otherwise fine," Rand assures him.  "I'm going to go check on Hector, Fei, and Judoc if you two can finish searching."

"OK," Mina says.  "I already found a vulnerary.  We've searched this half of the room, could you help me over here?"

"Of course," Nevyn nods.  After a few minutes of awkward silence Nevyn breaks the silence.  "So, you are... a member of the royal guard?"

"Yes," Mina answers.  "And you're... um...  Sorry, I don't know much about the Meridian military or..."

"I'm no one important, really.  Just the leader of a small team in a small fort," Nevyn tells her.

"Er...  So why are you here?" Mina asks.  She suddenly realizes what she just asked.  "...Oh!  S-sorry, that... sounded ruder than I meant it to.  I'm grateful for you being here.  We might've landed right in the middle of that ambush if it weren't for you."

"Haha...  No offense taken, Mina.  It's a complicated answer.  You see, my father's... not particularly popular among the higher-ups because of his role fighting against Meridia in the last war.  But he's considered a hero among the common folk."  Nevyn sighs.  "They were hoping to humiliate him a bit by telling him to send an escort to guide you at the last minute.  They didn't think we could get here so quickly...  But, by the grace of the gods..."

"That's... awful," Mina says.  She falls silent for a few moments.  "I...  I have to ask.  Meridia, at least... part of it, was behind the Risen last time.  Is there any chance this was... intentional...?"

Nevyn folds his arms.  "I... don't know," he admits.  "I certainly hope not.  For now, we need to focus on making sure whatever's going on doesn't succeed.  Assuming these Risen weren't just... I don't know.  Wandering monsters.  Perhaps this is coincidence."

"Do you really think that's... possible?" Mina asks.  Nevyn's silence is enough to say he doesn't.
