It's not compensation. It's a freudian metaphor.

So... I was FINALLY able to get a more accurate size for some famous dragons, as well as a better grasp of the true scale of 125m. I'm partially at fault for not having an accurate understanding of the scale, but in my defense, it's difficult to judge something's relative scale from pictures alone. I originally wanted to have my character resemble Bahamut from FF XIV: A Realm Reborn. As a tribute to LOTUS, our last space adventure that unfortunately will never be finished. That idea fell apart once I learned Primal Bahamut is about 6,500 meters long, and his wingspan is 10x that. That's a bit too much for a RP, methinks. Then I started researching some other famous dragons from games, novels, and myths and comparing their approximate size to real world structures using pictures, measurements, and videos. I won't bore you with all the details, but Deathwing is 73m long. To put that into perspective, the Statue of Liberty is 93m tall from ground to torch. From what I can figure out, a 125m, or 410 ft tall dragon would have to have a wingspan of at least 1200m, which is close to 4000 feet. A dragon that size, assuming its body is mostly muscle, would probably have a mass around 40-50 thousand tons, or 80-100 million pounds. To put it into perspective, here's a video that demonstrates 410 ft in the air pretty well. www.youtube.com/watch?v=vxcn7EpXWoISince the video is shot from 1st person POV, imagine you're looking out of the dragon's eyes. Now visualize a 4000 ft wingspan stretching to either side of the horizon. This is a video I found of one of the longest zip lines in the world, depicting 1200 meters, or 3,940 feet. www.youtube.com/watch?v=nyrz86h-y9Atl;dr A giant, 410 foot tall, 80 million pound dragon with a 4000 foot wingspan is MASSIVE, and plenty big enough. So yeah. Now that I have a good picture of just how big my dragon will really be, I'm perfectly fine with size rank 6.

Queries: What's energy good for? What are the implications of having 0 - 2 Soul? Can massive damage apply to projectiles? How do I know what weapons/items/funds I can start with? Does the 2 weapons combat technique imply that I can't do more than dual wield, even with extra arms? Not without severe penalties? How stringent are we gonna be on storage realism? Oh yeah and do I really, like, need skills? It's lost by cold/hunger/etc (at 0 you lose hp instead) or used to give bonuses to rolls, you have no luck/charisma/willpower/self-discipline and low energy/hp, dunno I'll need to check, you buy items/weapons/money with character points but I'll say everyone starts with a small amount of cash that could keep them fed at least, I'll need to look into errata for extra arms, not overly but you won't be able to carry 10 guns and a buster sword or carry a larger ship inside the ship or anything crazy, and no. From a gaming perspective, skills are a cheap way to give a small bonus to some area, but it would probably be better just to spend the extra and get bonus point in the relevant skill. Though some skill checks will have massive penalties tied to having no training. Like performing surgery without a medical or at least biology skill having a big penalty, enough that a high mind stat won't overcome it. From a narrative perspective, it helps flesh out your character's backstory. Say, a gymnast having a slightly-above-average body stat, but a high skill rank in acrobatics.

OK, I'll shuffle aside the Massive Damage, Extra Arms and starting inventory questions for now and ask for a bit more clarification on some other things.
Willpower is relevant for psychic domination and things like that, but is it necessary to have any psychic abilities at all? The chart seems to indicate that Mind is the most important stat for most psychic abilities. Does 0 Soul really mean no Luck and can I have negative Luck? Is uncharismatic a big deal for jobberssomebody who wouldn't be facing for the party anyway? Is it more excusable if I'm some kind of freaky non-human species? Does the Portable Armory combat technique offset that "10 guns and a buster sword" rule? ...How many guns go into one buster sword?
Oh yeah, and I take it that character progression is based on the elapsed time over which the campaign takes place in-universe. Should I worry about having every trait and ability I need from the get go, or should I expect to be able to progress a few levels in most of my preexisting abilities? Can I invest in new ones?

That there's enough questions that I'll need my computer and not just my phone, so hold that thought for several hours.

I'd rather answer vague, general questions in the open. Because it may answer questions other people have.
I'll go ahead and address the soul thing. Now, I dunno how experienced you are with RP - you could be the time-travelling reincarnation of Gary Gygax for all I know - but I advise any beginners to take at least 4 in all stats. Especially soul, since it ties into HP, EN, and base combat value. It would probably be better to start with 4 soul then take the less capable defect (maybe multiple times) for luck/willpower/whatever. Or the Ism defect.
...What would racism against aliens be? Xenoism?

Hmm, the build I have in mind would be pretty crippled by having to spend 40 extra points -- depending on the answer to the question about progression, anyway. 10 or 20 would be more eminently doable. Could I go up to 40 defect points if I double up on the less capable defect? I never even considered that as a possibility.

Isn't a person with a stat of 0 utterly incapable of doing anything?

So would having 0 Soul be comparable to, say, someone with Apathy Syndrome (like in Persona 3?) Even worse?
What about 2-3 Soul? Would 2 be a lunatic? Would 3 be a (colloquial) psychopath?

That would be like an elementary school kid (mini-psychopaths) and a weak-willed individual, respectively. And yes, 0 would be apathy-syndromey.
Hm... It'd be fun to make Aigis... But first I need to get off my ass and finish the rules guide.

OK, I'll shuffle aside the Massive Damage (applicable to ranged?), Extra Arms (capable of multi-wielding?) and starting inventory (I can just wait on specific values) questions for now and ask for a bit more clarification on some other things. Willpower is relevant for psychic domination and things like that, but is it necessary to have any psychic abilities at all? (how relevant is Soul/willpower to psychic abilities? Specifically telekinesis) The chart seems to indicate that Mind is the most important stat for most psychic abilities. Does 0 Soul really mean no Luck and can I have negative Luck? Is uncharismatic a big deal for jobberssomebody who wouldn't be facing for the party anyway? Is it more excusable if I'm some kind of freaky non-human species? Does the Portable Armory combat technique offset that "10 guns and a buster sword" rule? ...How many guns go into one buster sword?Oh yeah, and I take it that character progression is based on the elapsed time over which the campaign takes place in-universe. Should I worry about having every trait and ability I need from the get go, or should I expect to be able to progress a few levels in most of my preexisting abilities? Can I invest in new ones?OK, so the highlighted would be questions that I still find pertinent after getting a grasp on what certain values in the Soul stat mean. Once again, at your leisure.
