A, though I doubt that she's serious. Probably teasing us again.

(You know what could make this situation even more awkward if Sara or Rita just happened to appear. Yeah that would certainly be awkward whistles innocently)

You lightly kiss Waite's fingertip. Her eyes widen in a brief moment of surprise. You take Waite's hand and gently pull her finger from your mouth. "Deal!" you tell her.
"Oh? Hm..." Waite muses. Her grin widens. You let her pull out of your grip and she calmly places the apple on the dock's piling beside you. "Here you go. Now..."
Waite points at water beneath you and it begins to stir. You start as something quickly snakes up your leg. A watery tendril, solid as ice yet fluid as water, forcefully jerks you off the edge of dock and into the water. What feels like chains coil around your body and bind you in place. You're left bobbing just above the surface at Waite's feet.
Waite crosses one arm across her chest and tucks her other hand under chin. She looks down at you with a malevolent gleam in her eye. "Not even an ounce of hesitation, hm? Heheheh... You gave yourself to me so easily - enthusiastically, even. And now you're at my mercy." A sadistic smirk is plastered across her face. She plants a foot on your shoulder and rocks you back and forth absently. "Think carefully what you agreed to. To give me something sweet and juicy, a small taste of your body. You thought you would be paying with a kiss, hm? Yes, that was the implication. But implications, my sweet..." she trails off and lightly taps a toe against your lips. "Implications are meaningless. Always be perfectly clear what you're offering and what you expect when making a deal with a magical being. I left just enough unclear that I could do just about whatever I want with you... for an apple."
The cruel expression on Waite's face suddenly softens. "This is your first lesson, my naïve young apprentice. Take it to heart and be careful what you agree to, or you may some day find yourself at the mercy of a being that means to harm or manipulate you. I'm the only one allowed to toy with you like that." The pillar of water Waite's seated on erupts beneath her and she sinks into the water beside you. You feel the bindings holding you fade away as she treads closer to you.
The last light of the setting sun glimmers against the water and leaves Waite masked in silhouette. Streaks and sparkles of gold, red, pink, and orange dance across the water's surface. Waite removes her sunhat and lets it float beside her, leaving h. As she draws near, she places her hands on your hips and pulls you close, wrapping her arms around your waist and pressing herself against you. At this distance, her face becomes visible against the sun. Her tired, bloodshot eyes lock on yours, and the faintest hint of a smile is visible on her lips. She's trying to hide it, but she seems a bit excited. "Well, then... I believe you still owe me a kiss?"
(A) Kiss her passionately (B) Kiss her normally (C) Kiss her reluctantly (D) Refuse (E) "Keep your apple, you crazy person! And let me go. I'm out of here..."

Just kiss her like a friend, you tell yourself.
...You aren't really sure how exactly friends kiss. That's not really a thing you've ever done, even with close friends. You know it's a thing in some places, but-
You decide you should stop worrying about it and just kiss her. You mirror her embrace and squeeze her waist. With feigned confidence, you lean in and join your lips to hers for a few seconds.
"Mmm... Mm. Mmmmm... Ha..." Waite sighs and lets you go. She swims back a bit and smiles. "That was... pleasant. Relaxing. It's been... some time. I almost forgot. I have to admit I'm a bit envious - of your relationship. It would be... nice to have someone I could do that with whenever I wanted. Haha..." She seems a bit sad. Waite reaches around a bit and grabs her hat, observing it blankly. She points upward, and you feel another tendril coiling around under your arms. It hoists you tenderly into the air and gently deposits you onto the dock's edge. Waite makes a fist, then spreads her hand wide. You can see droplets of water flying off your clothes and skin. You're still a bit damp, but not sopping anymore.
"Instead of running off in a panic, you should come back for your training once you and that cute little nerd are finished," Waite suggests, her voice uncharacteristically soft. "We'll have just enough time for your first... hm... second session." She waves lazily and continues drifting aimlessly.
You take the apple and turn to leave. "Hey, Kira..." Waite calls after you. You stop and glance over your shoulder. Her face is buried under her hat. "...No, nevermind," she says after several seconds.
You hesitate for a moment, pausing to give her a chance to change her mind. She doesn't continue speaking, so you say goodbye and stroll off. You examine the apple carefully - it looks entirely normal. Nothing special. Perfect. You're sure it'll work. And you still have the rotten piece of apple-shaped detritus from the forest. Though perhaps it would be good to have a better backup...? Or to do some other investigation.
(A) Hurry and take what you've got to Rita (B) Ask Jackson if he could sneak you an apple from the military supplies (C) Ask random people about rumors about the food (D) Head to the library (E) Go talk to George and Daniel directly

That's not the word I'd use for it. Weird. Creepy. Disturbing. Intimidating, perhaps.

You send Rita a message telling her you found a good sample. She lets you know she'll start getting everything set up. By the time you arrive, the machine's set up and ready to go. You show Rita the two apples you managed to collect, and she suggests you try them both. A few moments later, you have a new pair of graphs to look at. Rita lays them out side-by-side and you try to make sense of all the peaks and valleys.
"What...?" Rita exclaims. "These... don't look anything alike!" She looks at the graphs with visible confusion. "Oh... Oh, no, wait. It's all relative, so... We need to figure out some similar points. So... here. These sets of peaks are about the same among all the samples. So... that means... if we take relativity into account... um..." You help Rita find a few patterns. "That means this one's got a few chemicals in it that are way bigger than in the others. And this one's got a lot more of whatever this is, and much less of this... OK." She pulls out a sheet of paper with the names and weights and charges and percentages written on it. She stares intently at the sheets for a while. "So... um... OK. These are probably... ascorbic acid, niacin, linolenic acid, and cellulose...? Got it!" Rita beams, clearly quite proud of herself.
"OK, so, what's different between the samples? The rotten one's missing a lot of stuff and has these things... The one you brought's got a lot of stuff here and here... um... hm. Pesticides, maybe? But the one from George has a ton of small chemicals in a really low concentrations, plus whatever this thing here is... Um... Based on the other points we've made... Oh! If we use this column thing, we can figure out its charge and then estimate its weight!" Rita's smile widens even more as she sets up the next experiment. She's been reading up while you were gone, apparently. "Science...!" she mutters happily.
After a few seconds, Rita scribbles some calculations on a piece of paper. "OK, so we know that our mystery chemical's strongly basic, and its weight is... Hm." She produces another reference text and flips through it. "I don't... hm... I can't find any chemicals that fit the description. Is this book not complete? Or maybe... Mmmph. Not having the internet's so inconvenient." You pat Rita's head and tell her she did good, regardless. She squirms uncomfortably at the praise, but you can tell she's actually quite pleased.
Man in Black looms behind you, peaking over Rita's shoulder at the calculations. He lets out a loud hiss and produces a PDA-like device from his shirt pocket. You and Rita look at him for a few seconds as he taps away, then he slips it back in his pocket. After several seconds... nothing happens. You shrug and ask Rita what you think you should do next.
"Um... Well... I think-"
A crashing sound cuts her off. A metallic tube rolls along the ground by the now-broken window. Man in Black seizes it, does a complicated series of twists to pop it open, and produces several sheets of paper. He slams it on the table by Rita and goes back to patrolling the perimeter.
Rita looks at you in confusion. "Um...?" You shake your head and look at the papers in confusion. The first page contains nothing but a title, followed by a set of coordinates.
"Case 1215: Gardner Incident - 1882 - MA, USA"
"What is this...?" Rita asks. She picks it up and flips through a few pages. You see some pictures of a strange stone. A few are in color, the same strange color that the food glows. "Samples collected from Gardner farm, confiscated from the university in... Hm... chemical properties... Reaction to heat, spectograph, size and weight... Oh! I was really close." Rita grins happily. You pat her shoulder and tell her to keep reading. "Hm...? Oh. 'Effects of exposure.' This sounds important. Let me see... 'Consumption of plants grown in contaminated soil or drinking contaminated water will cause similar effects albeit at a noticeably slowed rate as compared to intravenous injection...' This doesn't sound good. 'Victims have grey, ashen skin...' Oh. Dear. Confusion, disorientation, aggression, mu... Mutation!? Wh-what!? Th-this can't be the same thing... C-can it!? I must've made a mistake. Right? Right, Kira!? RIGHT!?" Rita's clearly freaking out. "OK. Y-yeah, gotta... Gotta repeat some experiments and confirm... this stuff...! I'll use the specifications in the report and double-check everything...!" The time is currently 20:30.
(A) Hang out with Rita and help (B) Grab Rita and run to the Guardian's Farm immediately (C) Go train with Waite as she suggested (D) Meh. This is ridiculous. Go do something else

Um, C.
After practice we can come back and see if she's confirmed it. We shouldn't cause a panic if we don't have concrete confirmation.
