Magick, the lifeblood of the universe. Existing within every creature, but only accessible by one race.
Humanity.
With this wonderful tool, mankind prospered, creating massive empires and declaring themselves masters of the cosmos. However, like all great things, this did not last.
Humanity was nearly wiped clean from the realm of Austur, leaving only a handful of survivors.
The truth behind what had transpired to cause such a loss has been eroded by time, and the few that know the frightening truth have been cast out by society as fools.
But now, 3000 years later, humanity has grown powerful once more, bending Austur to its will with the might of Magick.
There are seven kinds of Magick, and each person is attuned to one type. Even attempting to wield Magick of another category is incredibly dangerous. The lower circles are more common among the citizens of men, but do not let this lack of rarity deceive you, as they are just as powerful.
The lowest circle, Pure Magick.
This is the control over unspecialized Magickal energies. There are no strengths and no weaknesses.
The 6th circle, Elemental Magick.
This is the control over the elements of fire, wind, water, earth, and metal. Useless if there is no access to the specified element, but incredibly powerful with large volumes.
The 5th circle, Life Magick.
This is the control over plants, animals, and fungi. Unparalleled in lush environments, but is incredibly costly and ineffective on humans.
The 4th circle, Illusion Magick.
This is the control over the mind. Fairly weak, but can be incredibly versatile.
The 3rd circle, Dimensional Magick.
This is the control over space, time, and gravity. Often considered the most powerful, but requires immense concentration and is very unstable.
The 2nd circle, Death Magick
This is the control over darkness, disease, and necromancy. Extremely powerful offensively, but is poor in terms of defensive capabilities and practicality.
The 1st circle, Holy Magick
This is the control over light, purification, and consecration. Immense in terms of defensive abilities and practicality, but the only offensive use is against beings aligned with darkness.
There are infinite possibilities when it comes to using Magick, but these can only be unlocked through intense training.
Now, are you ready to enter the world of Austur?
Character Sheet:
This is the format we will use for any and all people who want to participate in this RP.
Name: Gender: Age: Magick Type: Appearance: Notable Details: Hometown (Give description of home town): Weapon (if any):
Now here's mine:
Name: Arcturus Galatine Gender: Male Age: 15 Magick Type: Dimensional Appearance: Medium-short brown hair coupled with olive eyes. Has a large build that allows him to tower over others his age coupled with a chiseled face. Generally wears a scholar's robe covered with plates of armor (Think Grandmaster from FE:A), but often wears a simple white tunic at home. Notable Details: Born into the working class, he was raised among those who lacked skills in Magick. His father used what skills he had as a Type-6 in conjunction with old-fashioned smithing to forge weapons for the Cleatian military in order to send Arcturus to an academy. There he was tested to be found a Type-3, third rarest among magicians, and taught classes on controlling Magick and its uses. Hometown: Shaldra, capital of the Cleatian empire, and home to some of the most prestigious academies of Magick. Architecture is of Greco-Roman style, with some Arabian influences. Currently at war with the Shiryu Alliance. Weapon: Blacksmith's hammer

Name: Redthorne, after the dagger that served as his first weapon in his new existence Gender: male, not that it matters now Age: 55 or 21 or 1. depends on what you count. Magick Type: once illusion, then none of his own, then death. Appearance: tall and thin, Red's skin is always as pale as a ghost. His once black hair is Snow White and his irises burn red. His thin frame betrays great strength that he never had during his former life as a thief. He wears an old gray cloak and travelers clothes eaten away at by time, but he has no armor, or even shoes.
Notable Details: Red was a dead, a revenant. The greatest undead servant of the notable necromancer, Fenstrar Golmad. With Golmad dying from a curse, his body withering away after a fight against fellow death magician, Iregard the Scourge which ended in a draw. Golmad attempted to escape his dying body by transferring his consciousness into the young, fit body of his strongest revenant, but what he doesn't count on is that when he created Red, he created an individual, not a husk, but a thinking, aware creature with a will to live. Red overcomes his former master's consciousness and absorbs it. The fragments of Golmad's soul and whoever he was before form the consciousness of a new being given new life. His heart beats again and he no longer knows what he is.
Hometown: wherever the master is. Now it is in the ice caves of southern Nalghar amongst the ice bears and sea lions (much fiercer than normal sea lions) Weapon (if any):
He now wields death magic. His magic was taken from Golmad, a death magician. He is very unskilled and only has increased control over the natural abilities he had been given as a revenant.
He can create an aura of fear and can speak with the dead, and undead. He is immune to magical fear and weakness, and has a passive resistance to many types of magic. He can also drain life energy on touch, but for him, this is a very challenging act which requires a lot of concentration. As such, can usually only do it on incapacitated targets. This will boost his strength and healing for a short time (half an hour).
He is seriously weak to holy magic, and fire. Any decapitation or blade through the heart will kill him, but he will heal minor wounds almost instantaneously and major ones in a matter of days to weeks. He cannot starve, he does not need to drink or breathe, but he feels the same compulsions to do so as everyone else. He will grow weak without it, but cannot die from it. If he can't breathe, he feels like he is choking to death but never will.
His physical weapons include a bow and quiver with which he hunts, an assortment of daggers set in sheathes cross crossing his body, and a short sword that hangs at his waist. ---- Hope I'm not overstepping.

Character Sheet:
Name: Elia Arrington Gender: Female Age: 16 Magick Type: Holy Appearance: Long blonde hair, brown eyes, rather pale. Often wears simple robes, usually in some shade of blue or green. Pretty tall for a girl her age. Notable Details: Lives a simple life in a monastery, located in the mountains northeast of the village where she grew up. She came there at the age of thirteen with a friend, seeking serenity and a place to study. She was often forced to use her magick for various tasks back in her village, and she began to fear that the power she held would be abused by others if she remained there long enough. She left without saying a word to her family, praying that they wouldn't be harmed because she chose to leave. Hometown: Censa, a village in the midst of a large meadow. With the bustling city of Arden to the west, and the fishing and agriculture focused village of Renwarth to the southeast, Censa survives because of it's mines and stone quarries located nearby at the base of the mountains. To the northeast is a river that flows through the massive Dalthian Mountains, and there are rumors of a long since abandonded castle somewhere high up in the mountains. But the people of Censa are simple people for the most part, and don't believe in such fairy tales. Weapon: Elia takes a simple bow with her when she leaves the secure walls of the monastery behind, but otherwise only keeps a small knife for a weapon.
Going for a mostly support based character here. As you can guess, Elia is meek and prefers to avoid conflict. She has used the monastery (which happens to be in the old castle) as a way to escape the tyranny she fears, and she's not entirely sure if she believes in the stories the monastery tells about the past, and about what truly tried to wipe out humanity. She is extremely scared of the idea of using her magick to hurt anyone, even in self-defense.

Now, Magick is not an all-powerful force. Like all things, it consumes energy. This energy is called Mana. Each being can only carry so much Mana, but this limit can be raised. Like building a muscle, one can increase his or her own Mana flow through continual exercise. "What happens when you run out of Mana?" you ask. Well, if someone who has expired all their Mana attempts to cast a spell, it will feed off of that person's life, weakening or even killing them. Mana also regenerates over time. One could speed up this process by eating, sleeping, or ingesting potions and tonics.
Also, Os, you're not overstepping. Just make sure his weaknesses are balanced with his strengths.

Hey that sounds fun, here's my character.
Name: Grimms Nocturnis
Gender: Male
Magick Type: Drain, a forbidden variation of Life Magick that focuses on sucking the mana/life force out living beings to empower the user rather than controlling plantlife and animals. It is effective on humans and hence forbidden by most nations of Austur.
Appearance: Grimms wears a tattered black coat as well as a black and red jacket and matching pants underneath and wears no gloves nor shoes. He has bandages wrapped around his arms and legs to serve as seals to his terrifying power as his body would start draining the life of all living beings standing next to him indiscriminately. He sports white hair and red eyes and has an intimidating presence despite his scrawny build.
Hometown: Naglfar, a city that was once a refuge to those who studied and/or practiced forbidden Magicks such as Necromancy and Drain Magick before a certain incident.
Weapon: Fists and Kicks (enhanced by magic)
Notable Details: -Grimms was born in Naglfar from two exceptional Drain Magick practitioners and was also an exceptional user of said Magick but his power proved to be too strong and he one day drained the life force of many inhabitants of Naglfar and in a desperate attempt to survive released it all in a blast that razed the city to the ground, leaving him as the sole survivor. He now wanders the land on his own, hoping to hone his mastery over the fearsome magick so that such a tragedy never happens again.
-Despite his terrifying presence, he is a fiercely loyal individual and trustworthy friend who would rather die than betray his friends and would help anyone in trouble if he could.
-His greatest weakness is how unstable his power is, he has to limit his draining to physical contact and short-ranged offensive energy bursts or he could end up killing those dear to him in a second. He will also suffer severe internal damage if he absorbs more mana than his body can handle unless he releases it in some way.
Grimms is a close-quarters melee character (a monk basically)that can absorb enemy spells launched at him and absorbs his opponent's mana with every hit he scores, but he subconsciously imposes a limit of how many spells he can drain on himself to prevent his Magick from going berserk. While he can die if dealt enough damage, his Magick passively hardens his skin to the point he is completely immune to cutting and stabbing (though his muscles and internal organs are still vulnerable to the impact the weapons if the blows are heavy enough).
How is it? Are the strengths and weaknesses balanced?

Red's spells will at first, only be limited to what a revenant can do. He won't even be able to do spells other than auras at first. He resists say, a binding spell, but getting impaled by a magic sword will hurt him just the same as anyone else. He mostly resists things such as being turned to stone, transformation, things that buffer or sabotage him cast by other magicians because he can't actively defend against that as he can, a fire ball. But at the same time, he can only recieve buffs from spells that effect the undead. He cannot be given bear strength or a circle of healing. In fact, a circle of healing may outright kill him. The only certain magics that can buffer or debuff him are dark and holy magics.
So if you want to jettison me out into space, go right ahead, but if you want me to be affected by a slow (or haste spell) it probably isn't going to go over very well.

I might have missed something though as I am doing typing this on mobile.

Name: Riker McNite
Gender: Male
Age: 35, not that it matters anymore.
Magick Type: Life
Notable Details: Originally from an industrial town, he never took to magitech or science. He much preferred to spend his time with nature, being one of the few Life mages in his area. On the last of his many camping trips, he was bit by a werewolf. Desperate for a cure, he attempted a secret Life Magick ritual. It was well beyond his current power but he had no other options. He pumped every last drop of Life Mana in his blood into ridding the Lycanthropy from his body.
When he woke up, he was in a ruined campsite. He was a wolf. And he was standing over the half eaten corpse of a young mage like him. Or like he used to be. The ritual he attempted backfired tremendously. Instead of healing him, it empowered the Lycanthropy disease. The wolf consumed him, and no trace of his original self was left. He lived as a dire wolf for a decade, until by chance, he had succeeded in attacking and killing a mage.
When the wolf ate the heart of mage, that mage's mana came surging into Riker, allowing him to reassert his human consciousness, and with enough effort, the human form of that mage. But this control can only last as long as he still has mana. As his mana pool dwindles he loses control of his other side, and he returns to being a mindless dire wolf. And the only way for him to restore mana is to eat the heart of a mage.
His Lycanthropy isnt limited to just transforming between wolf and human forms. His Life Magick was corrupted, but it now works in tandem with the disease. He can morph into any creature he has eaten the heart of, be it human or animal. But beyond a healing factor, this is the only way his magick manifests.
Either the wolf, or his own life magic saves him whenever he tries to kill himself, so he is left with a choice. Become a true monster and live, or keep looking for ways to die.
Appearance: A giant silver-black wolf. 10 feet long, and 5 feet at shoulder height when on all fours. Since he lost his original form, he usually takes the form of one of the mage he has killed for their mana.
Hometown (Give description of home town): Newtonia - An industrial port town of business and magitech. It's a busy place, and Riker stays away since he doesn't trust himself around a lot of people.
Weapon (if any):
Riker's default form is that of a giant Dire Wolf. It is incredibly strong and passively resistant to most elemental magic, but he can't use any magic of his own besides healing. He can morph into any animal he has eaten the heart of, but the process is slow and not possible while in combat. Wounds that would otherwise be permanent are healed when morphing out of and back into that form. Does anyone remember Animorphs? Yeah, like that.
In order to remain in control, he must consume the heart of a mage once every month before the full moon. This time limit is significantly decreased if he does a lot of morphing or healing.
His possible morphs include the forest animals that he hunts as a wolf. On his suicide run, he has been attempting to hunt increasingly dangerous and powerful beasts in order to finally find one that can kill him. As a result, he can expend very large amounts of mana to morph into a few mythical creatures, but he almost certainly loses control of them due to the effort.

Name: Hamon, the Kid
Gender: Male
Age: 27
Magick Type: Elemental
Appearance: A short man with messy brown hair, stark gray-blue eyes, brown skin and a slim build. He usually wears a tattered cloak that glows with mana infused power and shabby work boots with a ragged cap.
Notable Details: A novice "materialist", elemental mages who practice a magical art involiving enchanting objects with a matching element (IE: metal for a sword.) An object can be enchanted at the expense of time and mana, variant on the size and density of the object in question. An enchanted object can be freely manipulated, shaped or destroyed at the materialist's whim. A materialist can enchant with any element, at the cost of the ability to adeptly control unenchanted objects.
Hometown: Kadath, capitol of the nation of merchants, Jafet. Rather than surnames, the people of Jafet are given a title at their coming of age on their thirteenth birthday, and some are redubbed upon gaining wealthy status. Kadath is home to the Institute, a place where creative magicians are given room to develop their abilities and find new uses for the power of magic. It is also home to two legendary materialists, Azur, the Artisan and Salah, the Seamstress. The people of Kadath are especially industrious, and combine magic with tools to create wondrous machines.
Weapon: An enchanted gold coin which he uses as a projectile and the cloak off his back, which he can turn into a very limited amount of ultra-powerful thread.

It is clouded in a myriad of illusions caste by it's vampire ruler Alucard Van Halen. The mysterious lord appeared three hundred years ago around the time the lake became known as Watery Grave. I might be late for this.
Name: Jason Stone (Nicknamed as Reaper) Gender: Male Age: ??? Magick Type: Elemental, Holy Appearance: Reaper's appearance usually shows up in a cloak that would cover his face. He is also equipped with enchanted ancient armor that so advanced for it's time. Judging from his appearance this guy just doesn't belong here in this present time.... Notable Details: Reaper was once a royal knight who had served the ancient king many generations ago. When he was very young he had learned the ability to use elemental magick thanks to his parents (Back when they were still alive) since they had wanted their son to learn their ways. After learning the ways of the elemental, Reaper's hometown was destroyed by a group of ruffians and he was forced to run away as a orphan. 5 years after this event, Reaper had became a master towards the Elemental magick so much that he had known ways around the weaknesses towards it....but this wasn't enough for him as he wanted to learn more to take revenge towards the ones that killed his family and his friends. Eventually his wish was granted when he had met a elderly man who knew the ways of Holy Magick. At first the man had denied Reaper's request since it was extremely difficult to learn two types. However, Reaper did not give up as he was fully determined to learn. After the elderly man had seen the incredible determination that Reaper had just shown, He immediately taught him but with two costly prices. The first price was to serve the Holy knights of Athenia (An ancient kingdom that existed 250 years ago.). His second costly price was his Magick. Every time he uses an extremely powerful spell that requires both, it would hurt his body badly. The rest remains a mystery of how Reaper had appeared in this current time period. Hometown (Give description of home town): He doesn't have one anymore since his hometown was destroyed and since Athenia does not exist anymore in the current time period we are in now. Weapon (if any): An Enchanted short sword that can be used for Elemental Magick, Bow and Arrows that are enchanted by Holy Magick.

It's not too late to join, but allow me to explain something.
A person is born with their type predetermined, and even attempting to use Magick of another type is extremely dangerous. It also takes intensive training to even successfully shift from one Magick Type to another, and after that it's still incredibly dangerous. It's not a matter of knowing, but of predetermination.
