Welcome, one and all! In honor of every dragon's favorite time of year, the Verse will be holding a month long contest, to determine who wins the title of Best Ghost Writer. This contest will begin on the 1st day of every October from now on, and will last until Halloween Eve. We're starting a bit late this year, because Smexy only came up with this idea a couple of days ago. So blame him. The rules are quite simple: You write the best ghost/horror story your twisted imagination can think of. Everyone can participate. The winner will be chosen by public poll, with only one catch. An author cannot vote for their own story. The winner will receive a special trophy, bragging rights for a year, and possibly something extra, like a nice code for their 3DS. This topic will mainly be used for questions, concerns, and general discussion over the next couple of weeks. Your actual stories will go on the Short Stories board. Stories must be a minimum of 5 pages, and cannot exceed 30 pages. Please keep all entries free of clutter. Only the author is allowed to post in his/her story. If you have a question or comment, you may post it here. So, without further ado, I am happy to announce the opening of the 1st Annual Scareathon! The Verse, its Staff and affiliates are not liable for any trauma induced by this contest, physical or emotional. Participate at your own discretion. ToS and general rules still apply to Scareathon submissions. Violators will be eaten.

5 pages as in forum pages, or five pages as in actual pages.

Define a "page". Is that by line count? In which case dialogue would fill it up really fast.

Pages would be defined as Forum Pages. I.E, Page 1, 2, in any topic.

What's the minimum size for each post, since there's no maximum to go by?

Pages would be defined as Forum Pages. I.E, Page 1, 2, in any topic. I have a short story idea that's enough for one post tops, unless I decide to do all the s***posting. No thank you.

What's the minimum size for each post, since there's no maximum to go by? Hmm... I'm gonna say 20 lines for a minimum.

And since 5 pages seems to be a bit much for multiple people, I'm gonna go ahead and just set the minimum page count to 1.

But some of us are using the mobile version of the site, so 20 lines here isn't the same as 20 lines on the desktop site. Wouldn't a word count be far more practical?

Wait, so you want us to write a story posted in tiny bits at a time? I would much rather just have a 2000-4000 word single entry

I think HHD's got the right idea.
Word count seems best, and I don't think anyone's going to write a novel here.

Hmm... So then, 2000 words minimum and 5000 words maximum? Or is 2000 still too much?
Then again, we could have no minimum, and simply have a maximum. Would that work better?

Well, what are you looking for here? You could write something spooky in just a few lines, but those are more of the "creepypasta" type. Are those as valid?

I can write a few lines in World Discussion and it could be creepy, but it wouldn't be a ghost story. This contest is supposed to be about ghost stories.

A short story is usually at least 2000 words...I think. 2000-7000 sounds fair.
Can I also propose an under 100 word side-category too? I have a lot of fun with constrained/limited writing, but that's just me.
