A short story is usually at least 2000 words...I think. 2000-7000 sounds fair. Can I also propose an under 100 word side-category too? I have a lot of fun with constrained/limited writing, but that's just me. 2000-7000 it is. And sure. I don't see a problem with having a sub category or two.

As much as this sounds intriguing. I am not sure if scary ghost stories are up my ally. Maybe scary-humor could work but I don't know if I could do scary ghost w/o it feeling cliché or corny.

I have to come up with a monster?
I don't really get into this type of stuff.

Ignore that second statement. I was in a rush to type. I'll see what I can come up with.

Mainly saying where blood is or if Intestines are allowed?

I'm fairly certain most people are gonna expect at least some gore. I don't see a problem with it. However, if you plan on going overboard, then make sure you put a warning tag in the title or OP.
Something like this would be fine: *Gore*
That way, people will know to expect a lot.

Can we also do stories that are more like thrillers/suspense instead of straight up horror?

Can we also do stories that are more like thrillers/suspense instead of straight up horror? I thought thriller/suspense was the default. Then again, I seem to be the statistical outlier more often than not.

One more question. Which of these two do you guys prefer: modern settings, or more 17th/18 century style settings which don't feel old despite the time period?

Frankly I struggle to take interest in anything based on a period aftet early medieval, like the 12th century or so. But go ahead and do whichever strikes your fancy, I can get into it if the concept is interesting.

Either one works for me. I can get into just about anything if the story is engaging enough.

Well, I'm trying to keep the time period more ambiguous anyway, since I think that trying to accurately portray a certain time because I specified it would just take away from the story, which is the real focus. So it probably won't feel as advanced as whatever rough time period I choose, since I won't be paying attention to those kinds of details. I do think, now that I've finished my outline, that the story lends itself more to medieval through 17th century time periods

I'm thinking doing either a more Lovecraftian or philosophical horror than a traditional one, so it may not be all too scary until you think about it.

Some of my favorite horror movies are set in the 18th century, so the older one.

It's not really that scary though, so I don't know what to do. I can write good horror, but I don't know if we're looking for quality or scariness.

But I don't know if we're looking for quality or scariness. Quality scares. But don't over think it. This is supposed to be fun after all.
