Crois spots a mouse scurying across a roof top and sends Red after it. He could use a snack. Then without turning. "You know its funny how our pasts shape us. Take me for example, my youth was spent in kindness coupled with hunger, and to this day I find myself prefering the solace of the wood to the hustle of town. But one thing is the same for all creatures, if you wish to coexist with others you have to first open yourself to others. Ah, well listen to me ramble, it sounds like the others are heading for the door, I guess it will be time to go soon." Red then returns with his quary. Looks like he wants to save the snack for later.

"Crois is it," Russell said placing a gentle hand on his shoulder. "Why did you come out here to support me?" Russell asked in a sincere tone. "I saw some of the looks I got from the other members," Russell said with a hint of shame. Let's just say when it comes to talking about or expressing my emotions its hard for me," Russell said. "Heck the only reason I destroyed that poor stool because I was so frustrated about getting nervous in front of Krista," Russell said. "Let just give you a genuine thanks you came up here to try and get to know me," Russell said in a grateful matter. "Sorry I didn't here you before I was just daydreaming but I did hear everything you said," said Russell. "Like you said they are ready to go on you ready to go partner," Russell said while extending his hand.

Crois turns to the crusader. "I merely saw a soul struggling for direction and thought to provide some direction." Crois states. He then waits for the others to exit the building.

Krista's blade sang through the night air as the rest of her party approached. She nearly didn't notice them until they were close, most of her concentration directed toward practicing her latest blade form, steel wind. Adapting what she believed was developed as a two weapon maneuver into one to be wielded with a greatsword was proving challenging, especially when she had no targets to practice on. She could only hope that any kobolds she met tomorrow would stand close enough for her to practice on them.
Footsteps and idle chatter alerted her to the presence of her temporary compatriots during her lapse in focus. "Are all of you ready to leave?" She asked as the group approached.
"We are, sweetheart, Malcolm said as he approached, earning a scowl from her. "And I've got permission from the gatekeepers to let us out. They should-"
Malcolm was interrupted by the steady sound of the chains dropping the drawbridge, opening out into the forest and the trees. Just a short mile away would be the wall, not a true wall. The "wall", was no more than ten feet high, with gaps every 10 feet or so but every two miles or so, massive forts watched over it, housing rangers and scouts, whose job was to patrol the border between Umber and the Neverwood, stopping particularly nasty beasts and monsters. Within just a few short hours, The party would be entering one of the most monster infested regions of the known world north of Redflank Mountains.

3 hours later...
Trees thicker than a giant's waist reached high, blotting out the stars, casting deep shadows on the band of heroes... In the darkness, anything could lurk, beasts ready to tear them limb from limb, and in the distance, the baleful howling of wolves could be heard clearly. Still, starlight managed to shine through, casting the forest floor with a silver unearthly glow, and the forest air smelled freshly of pine, and Malcolm's lantern illuminating the party's immediate surroundings.

"Sooooooo..." Anthor placed his hands behind his head before looking up. "How long until we get there?"

"Stop." Anthor picks up a rock and hands it to the female warrior next to him. "Light. Throw the rock about 40 or so feet to the left."

Initiative:
Azrael 20 Wolves 18 Anthor 13 Crois 12 Krista 11 Gildis 10 Malcolm 9 Russel 7
(Yellow had the chance to warn everyone with his hawk. He did. No more surprise.)
note to Yellow, you don't have a telepathic connection with your hawk. It can't talk to Crois. It can only tell you whether there are enemies are in the area. For future reference.

(What's Gildis' initiative?)
"Wolves, methinks." Gildis tells them. "Druid, are you able to communicate with them?"

"Aye. To are rear about 80 feat. Red sees 3 wolves. If I can discern the alpha I may be able to turn them away." Whispers Crois.

"I suspect that their food source has been hunted to insufficient numbers." Gildis adds. "At least, I can see no other explanation for their vicious behaviour of late. If you could convince the alpha that helping us hunt the kobolds will work to his advantage, then perhaps our job would be a lot easier. At the very least, we can try to subdue them without becoming potential dinner."

"I can see two wolves, but I hear something bigger approaching. Druid, if you honestly think you can get these animals to calm down, I'll help to hold them off." Azreal loads his crossbow as the wolves get closer.

The closer wolf, suddenly dashes away back into the night. Suddenly, Azrael hears the pounding of paws on dirt as the second wolf springs from the north dashing straight toward Coris. Azrael fires from his hand crossbow without hesitation, he bolt glancing off the animal's skull, barely missing it's eye (miss). The smoky gray wolf doesn't hesitate leaping straight for Crois's throat. The Druid barely can raise his shield in time, and stumbles backwards as the animal flies into it full force (hp: 6/9), but manages to check the beast, pushing it back with a grunt of exertion. "Stop!" He commands in an authoritative tone, both to his allies and the wolf. The wolf hesitates for a moment, as Crois and it stare each other down. It seems cowed for a mere moment, but that moment is over, and it leaps forward again.
(Diplomacy check failed. Sorry, it only had a 5% chance of success at this level against openly hostile animals.) ---
"Light," Anthor says, lighting a stone with a bright light. He hands it to Krista. She glances down at the rock, now a glowing orb of light, and throws the stone with all of her night after the fleeing wolf. It falls short, but it casts the wolf in a glow as strong as any lantern, illuminating it where it stood, 60 feet south of the party, where it looked ready to dash in again. Not missing a beat, Krista drew her greatsword, settling into her fighting stance.
(The wolf is properly illuminated)
Malcolm turns back and sees the the Druid, Crois, tangling with a wolf. He couldn't get a clear shot, but- the second wolf caught his eye, no more than 80 feet away, close enough for his longbow. He slips an arrow from his quiver and in one smooth motion fires at the wolf.
Wide. He curses softly and fumbles for a second arrow. These were slippery buggers!

Gildis turns and a burst of light shoots from his hand, dazzling the wolf with a flare of light. Immediately, he turns and dashes to the closest tree and tries to climb, but can't find any handholds in the bark.
Behind him, Russell rushes toward the dazzled wolf, sword drawn, and shield raised, ready to defend Crois and Azrael if need be. He directs a swift blow at the wolf, forcing it to dance out of range of his blade, interrupting its assault.

taking careful aim, Azrael aimed his hand crossbow once more at the wolf. He took a deep breath and fired, sinking a bolt deep between the animal's ribs (16/20).

the wolf Azrael put a bolt in, recoiled in pain, it tried to lash out at Crois, but between its injury and Russell's protective stance, it couldn't get a hit. It leaps backward out of range of their melee weapons, looking for a new target. Anthor mutters a word and a glowing green orb of light shoots out of his hand, shooting toward the wolf and nailing it in the snout (12/20). The second wolf meanwhile, disappears from the light of the stone and back into the darkness, circling west.

(Crois prepares himself to defend)
Krista rushes toward the injured wolf, seeing an opportunity to strike. With one sharp battlecry, she brings her blade down swiftly on the wolf's skull, killing it (0/20). Malcolm and Gildis raise their ranged weapons, ready to shoot anything that comes in sight.
