Right. This really is a form of a leash for Tanith and Fenia. It even comes with a fashionable collar (after three days, anyway). Expect that Aimie can keep tabs on them with basically no effort at all. And yes, there's really quite a dire cost if we run out of time. And expect them to realize all the fun things over a day or too. There are mechanical quirks that go with this.
I think Tanith will adjust alright, but poor Fenia is going to be freaked the hell out from what I can see. We must protecc the precious halfling. She's too young to be dealing with things this scary.

One thing I take from the situation is that we have been given a direct link to Aimie, and while it's entirely her power over Tanith and Fenia with no reciprocity, from what Crow has said and the story so far I do think it's viable for us to consider her an ally and an asset rather than an enemy. She is interested in finding the truth about what happened to Alistar, after all. Is she dangerous? Absolutely, but she has an incentive to keep us (or at least two of us, but the rest are undeniably helpful to the two) alive and working for her. That said, in-character Fenia is absolutely not going to take this well or get that idea at all just yet, as GX assumed.

Yep, it's not all bad. It's probably more bad than good. But not all. But mostly bad. That was the goal, anyway.
Before you worry about this being a combat spell, she doesn't get the fun parts - the 'leash' as GX called it - until it finishes manifesting. If a fight takes that long, you're in serious trouble.
