The Dating Sim: Remastered

Kiran groans.  "Are you sure?  Maybe you're backwards.  Maybe it isn't time for Kiran to get out of bed, maybe it's time for Somnis to go back to bed."

"Hm.  Maybe you're right..."  Somnis pulls back the sheets and slides into bed next to Kiran.  She snuggles up to him with a sigh.  Kiran opens his eyes to see her face uncomfortably close.  She's already dozing off.  "...Somnis?"

"Mmmm...?"

"Do you remember the talk we had about personal space?"

"Mmm-hmm..."  A few seconds later, she's already snoring softly.

Somnis is... an interesting person.  She seems a bit ditzy, but she's actually pretty smart.  But her sense of interpersonal relationships is... well, she's not a bad person, just... interesting.  She's a year younger than Kiran, and lives next door.  They've known each other ever since he moved in.  He's gotten used to her quirks by now.

Kiran carefully disentangles himself from Somnis and slides out of bed, quietly getting his things together while she naps.  He stops by the kitchen, tosses some toaster strudel in the toaster, and hops in the shower.  He finishes quickly, tosses on some khakis and a nice shirt, and heads back to the kitchen just in time to collect the hideously burnt pastries as they pop out.  Just the way he likes them.  He grabs an ice cube and returns to his room.

He's entirely unsurprised to find his big ol' husky-hound dog's usurped his position as Somnis' teddy bear.  Dogachu absolutely loves cuddling with Somnis.  She's probably his favorite person.  It makes Kiran a little jealous, really.  "Somnis?  Wake up, sleepyhead."  Somnis and Dogachu both groan at him in perfect synchronicity.  "Somnis, it's time to get up."

"Are you sure? Maybe you're backwards. Maybe it isn't time for Somnis to get up, maybe it's- GAH!"  Somnis shrieks and rolls out of bed as Kiran pops the ice cube down the back of her shirt.  Her scrambling disturbs Dogachu, and he soon finds the both of them staring at him angrily after Somnis manages to get the cube out.  "...Jerk."

"Did you have breakfast?" Kiran asks.  He offers her a strudel.

Somnis gags.  "You burn them way too much.  And yes, I already ate.  I fed Dogachu on the way in, too."  She slides into her shoes and starts putting on her jacket.  "Come on, we're gonna be late.  Oh, and don't forget your new necklace."  She points to a glowing white key on his bedside stand.

"What are you doing here, anyway...?" Kiran asks, tossing the key into his pocket.

Somnis hugs Dogachu goodbye as they make their way outside.  "Did you forget our deal?  I promised your dad I'd make sure you didn't starve to death because you only eat unhealthy crap, and you promised Mom you'd walk me to school everyday.  Because of the attacks?  Remember?"

"Attacks...?"

"Huh?  Wait, what do you mean 'attacks-dot-dot-dot-question-mark?'  Kiran!  Natsumi was in the hospital!"

"What?"

"Yeah!  She disappeared for a week?  And Buttons found her half-dead by the river?  The police arrested him!"

"What!?"

"Yes!  They let him go, eventually, and Natsumi just got out of the hospital yesterday.  She didn't remember anything other than someone running up to her and bashing her in the back of the head.  How do you not remember this!?  Jeez..."  Somnis pouts.  "She's not the only one to go missing, either.  So that's why you're gonna walk me to school every day, right?  I'm small and cute and just a prime target!  Even a grade schooler could bash me on the head!"

(A) Right, fine, I'll walk you to school...  I guess.
(B) What!?  Jeez.  Yeah, you're walking to school with me from now on.
(C) What!?  Jeez.  Yeah, you're walking to school with me.  To protect me.
(D) This is such a pain...  We only live 3 blocks away, you'll be fine.

Get dat new people. Although I guess Natsumi's technically new, we can hang out with her after school without it being weird.

"Oh, yeah.  Soccer, right?" Kiran asks.

"Well, I'm actually the head of most of the sports teams.  Except wrestling and boxing."  Freya glares towards the sophomore section.  "But soccer's my passion, and the one I spend most of my time coaching directly!"

"Neat.  So, when's the first match?"

"We've got about a month to get ready before the first official match, but we're doing a scrimmage with Vitcon High in two weeks.  You interested in joining the team?  We meet on Wednesdays and Fridays.  You can show up as often or as little as you want - but you'll only get to play in the big matches if you show me you've got what it takes!"

"I'll keep that in mind," Kiran says.

The speakers squeal as the grey-haired principal steps up to the microphone.  "Hello, students.  Faculty.  It's great to see you all here for another wonderful year here at Newvit High - Go Ligers."

"Go Ligers," about half the crowd repeats, uninterested.

"...So we've got another great year ahead of us.  But before you all begin the joyous experience, I have an announcement to make.  I'm sure you've all heard about the recent attacks and disappearances in the news.  Even our family has been affected."  He glances towards the juniors.  Kiran can tell he's looking at Natsumi.  She waves back at him with a big smile, and several students around her start murmuring.  "So make sure you all get home before dark.  If you have to be out late, make sure you use the buddy system, tell your parents where you'll be, and carry a whistle or other signalling device at all times...  Also, make sure you eat your milk, do your vegetables, say yes to drugs, get plenty of homework, drink your sleep, and say no to education..."  The principal drones on and on for quite some time.  He only makes two important points.  "Remember that clubs are open starting today, and students are encouraged to join at least one.  There's no commitment, so you can come and go as you please.  And voting for student council members starts next week.  If you want to declare yourself as a candidate, applications are due Friday..."

After he finishes, the day is fairly uneventful.  Then, the end of the school day arrives.  You can hit up the mall, head out to the park, invite someone to do something.  Not Natsumi, though, she'll be busy.  Freya, too, probably - she and Natsumi usually hang out on Tuesdays.  Or you could check out a club.  What's meeting today...?

Kiran decides to give Somnis a pass - she'll be fine in the Volunteer club, but he wants to go check out - check up on Natsumi.

Unfortunately - er, no.  Fortunately, someone at some point gave her a school jacket to put on.

"Kiran-person!  You're joining us today?" Natsumi greets him with an enthusiastic smile as soon as he walks in.  "Sorry, I won't really have time to chat today - lots of new people checking out the club!  I have to try to pass as 'normal' today.  I must make a good first impression, yes?"

A lot of new students trickle in to check out the club.  ...Maybe a few more than normal.  This...  This isn't because everyone saw her fashion disaster earlier, right...?

"Hello, person-people!  Welcome to the Art club!  Rather than some long-winded discussion, we're going to get right into an activity for the day - free-drawing!  I and some of the long-term members will be walking around to help you out, so grab a piece of paper and a fancy-pencil and get sketching!  Don't worry about it being good or anything!"

Kiran looks around and notices a few people he recognizes getting to work.  And one transfer student he hasn't seen before, with black hair and wearing a hoodie.  He looks... angry.
