Many of you have asked for a way to get feedback on improving your writing and there's never really been any solution to that yet. So, in response, I'm making this thread. This thread is not for use of casual conversation and social topics, it is purely for helping to give USEFUL criticism on writing. Anything off topic will be reported to the staff. When I say useful criticism, here's what I mean.
I don't want to see anyone telling others that their writing is garbage. We already know it is. The purpose for this thread is to get better at writing. So instead of saying something is bad or something is good, you need to be as specific as possible. If something is bad, explain why it is bad. What should they add? What should they take away? If something is good, explain what they did right. Don't just say it's good.
That leads me to another point. If someone is trying to give you useful and constructive criticism, don't get mad at them. They're only trying to help. And remember, you asked for them to give it to you in the first place. If you want to ask a question for clarification or have a conversation about said criticism, that's fine. But if it breaks into some kind of pointless fight or two people breathing fire at each other, I'm calling the staff.
Now, on to how this thread works. If you want one of YOUR OWN writings to be criticized, please make sure to quote the post you want looked at and post it here. You should NOT post other users' writings or criticize other users' writings without asking them if that's what they want first. Some people are fragile to criticism and throwing it at them when they aren't asking for it means you're looking for trouble. By posting your own writing here, you are asking that others criticize them. If you are someone that is sensitive to criticism, please acknowledge it and do NOT post your writing in this thread. If I catch people breaking this rule, I'm calling the staff.
When giving criticism to another user, either quote them, making sure to delete the writing when you do so, or @ them. Deleting the text when quoting helps to avoid filling pages with unnecessary space full of the same text that we've already seen. If you need to, you may leave the first few sentences of the writing in order to differentiate which one you're talking about in the case of that user posting multiple writings. If you want to @ someone, it is very simple. You type in @username (replace username with their actual username. Remember, it has to be their username, not their screen name.) and they will receive a notification that they have been tagged in this thread. This helps so that they know you are talking to them and can be easier than quoting and deleting the text under some circumstances.
Now that all of that is out of the way, you guys should be good to have fun improving your writing by talking to each other about it. As long as you follow the rules, everything should be fine.
