"I teach at the academy here in the city. All day crash courses to students who, for the most part, don't pay enough attention to be able to tell the difference in performance between a store bought generic CPU and a high end custom build CPU. Anyway... I have the rest of the day free. Maybe you could use another person's help with your prototype?"
---
"This isn't news to me, Celio," Noelle said, her voice dripping with annoyance. "We've dueled before, remember?"

Location: Fortune City
"Well Mark i guess we should get going," Sara said to Mark. Mark sprang up as Sara stood and began to leave. Mark and Sara were about to leave until they saw a group of people approaching them.
"Oh great not this guy," Sara sighed.
"Oh him looks like he has his usual two lackeys with him," Mark said. "I wonder what he wants now, i mean it's the first day of class," Mark said.
"Mark, shhh maybe if you dont notice him he will go away," Sara whispered to Mark

Hector hesitated for a moment. He wasn't very good around people, he hadn't been for some time, but... There was something different about her. And, truth be told, he really could use the help...
He nods. "Yeah, alright. I could use the help. Mind giving me a ride back to my shop? I'll call my assistant and have him pick up my runner."

Emma nodded and took a moment to pull all her hair to one side of her face, then secured it with a rubber band out of consideration for her would-be passenger. "Sure. Where's your shop at?"
---
"You don't remember? Like, at all? Celio..." Noelle grumbled. "Whatever. Let's start this duel already."

"Over by the old Daedalus bridge in the waterfront district," Hector answers, taking out his cell phone from a pocket in his riding suit. He hits the speed dial option.
"Hey Michael, I need a favor. I pushed the new runner a bit too far, and I need you to pick it up for me. It's over in the old stadium. Yeah, I got a ride back. Right, sorry for the inconvenience. Tell her I'll make it up to her. Yeah, see you then."
He hangs up and slips his phone back into his pocket, then straps his helmet back on. "Alright, I'm ready."

Meanwhile, back on Duel Academy Island...
"Well, look who it is," a tall, dark haired Obelisk Blue student said, his voice thick with sarcasm and venom, as he approached the fountain plaza.
He was flanked by two other Obelisk Blue students; one was extremely tall and skinny, with an appearance uncannily similar to a twig, and a pale, almost sickly complexion dotted with a forest of freckles. The other looked like a dwarf that got lost on his way to the nearest Renaissance Faire. He was short and stout, slightly plump but also surprisingly muscled- to the point it made him appear oddly proportioned- and had more facial hair than any teenager had a right to- and he was obviously a teenager. The leader of the three musketeers, the one who had spoken, was, for all intents and purposes, very handsome. His short jet black hair was stylized and neat, to the point it practically shone, and he sported a healthy, if a bit pale, complexion that suggested he maintained a near perfect balance between indoor and outdoor activities. He was tall for a teenager, perhaps a couple inches above six feet, and while not very muscular, he was clearly athletic and not a stranger to sports. His physical attributes aside, his personality was a completely different matter.
Lance smirked. "If it isn't the wannabe entertainer and his beautiful cousin. Well, Mr "Entertainer", I thank you for escorting my bride to-be on this lovely morning, but your services are no longer required. I shall take it from here. You may leave now."
"Yeah, scram!" Tweedledum A(The Twig) squeaks, his voice high pitched and nasally.
Lance immediately shoots him a stern glare, and Tweedle A shrinks away and pipes down. Completely ignoring Mark, Lance turns to Sarah and steps forward. Before she can react, he takes her hand into his and bends over, placing a chaste kiss on her hand. "Milady, it would be my pleasure and honor to escort you to your first class today."
------
Alicia waved goodbye to Erin as the ferry pulled away, and turned to look at the academy buildings looming above the treetops, glistening in the morning sun. All around her, students crowded into their respective zones. Wide-eyed first year students with shaking hands and stars in their eyes crowded around the first year homeroom teacher, while the second year students gathered around their gym teacher, some excited and others terrified to begin the infamous "Boot Camp" year. There weren't that many third year students, but then again, there never were. The second year was always the hardest at Duel Academy Island.
A few other 4th year Blue Coats walked past her, but they gave her a very wide berth. It didn't bother her. She was used to it. She followed after them. Now that she was a 4th year Obelisk Blue, she could do whatever she wanted to, as long as she made it to class on time.
Maybe I'll go to the library. My first class doesn't start for an hour.
She walked up the island, through the forest pathway, and she felt a pang of sadness when she realized that the next time she walked that path, she would be leaving Duel Academy Island forever. After all... She preferred to stay on the island during semester breaks.
There were so many memories here, so very many...

"'C'mon, c'mon, work...!' The normally-collected hero, his green outfit awash in red warning lights, violently shakes the controls to no avail. He turns from the array of warning lights to stare helplessly at the central monitor. The Colossal Fighter slowly lowers to the ground, sending the desert sand whipping violently from the force of his jetpack. He stomps over to the helpless mech. 'Ha! Ha! Ha! With the power of my new Assault Mode! You no longer rule the sky! Quantum Mecha Pilot Green! You are finished!' He brings his fists together and raises them over his head!
"Off in the distance, a red mecha beast vaults over Gigant Gear X, bouncing off its head. Clang! Gigant Gear X falls to the ground as Quantum Mecha Beast Liger races across the plain, a trail of dust whipping behind him. 'Green! Blue! Hang in there!' Only static from Blue's channel. Liger dives into Colossal Fighter, who easily tosses him aside with a crash! No!
"But wait! Aeros finally responds! It manages to wrap a talon around Colossal Fighter just as Red comes around for another attack! Colossal Fighter falls to a single strike of Quantum Shining Striker Claw! Shing! But wait, off in the distance! Gigant Gear X is back on his feet, and he's got friends! 'EQUI-I-I-I-IP!' An army of small mechs swarm over him. Geargiagear Gigant GX! He levels his bazooka and fires! Liger doesn't see it, Aeros tries to shield him with his wing, but it's not enough!
"'Re-e-e-ed!' Blue, in a badly damaged Quantum Mecha Beast Pulse, leaps out of the lake and takes the hit! BOOM! Explosions rock Pulse! 'Kyaaaaaaaah!' And it explodes into a massive fireball! 'Blue!' 'Blu-u-u-u-ue!' 'GWA-HA-HA-HA!' AND THEY ENDED IT THERE! Can you believe it!?" Aaron grabs his head in exasperation as he takes a seat on the stairs, done acting out the scene. Cowlicks erupt from his brown hair as he slides his hands free. The other Slifer student, a blond 4th year and one of the few people too lazy to disappear when they see Aaron coming lets loose a sigh of exasperation. "Can you believe it!?" Aaron repeats.
"Yes," comes the unenthusiastic answer. "Just like I believed you last month when... Liger got that Shiny claw thing. And the month before that, when Green's girlfriend turned out to be Psychic Lifetrancer in disguise. And the month before that, when Red and Green got into a fight and the team split up. An-n-n-nd that special edition sidestory thing before that when Alphan dove into that volcano-"
"No-o-o, why'd you have to remind me! He's been gone so long I'm starting to think they really killed him off!"
"They didn't kill the mascot character. Besides, they're Quantum... things. Y'know, that whole... Quantum... Cat thing. You don't know it's a monster until you flip the trap? You don't know something's dead until you see it dead? ...Or whatever?"
Aaron continues to fidget excitedly, but his voice drops several decibels, at least. "Ga-a-ah, why why why can't we have a decent comic store on this island! I mean, it's... awesome I managed to get in, but I have to wait so-o-o-o long to get my hands on new releases!"
"Glad to see you have your priorities straight. Speaking of which, shouldn't you be on your way to orientation or class or whatever? The boat's about to set out. You're probably gonna be late." As if on cue, a horn blares from the docks.
"Ack! Uh... Sorry, man, gotta go! We can talk more later!" Aaron says, straight up into a brisk jog.
"Can't wait..." Erin joins the throngs of parents gathered at the rails, waving to their children as the ferry sets out back towards the mainland. As Duel Academy Island begins to sink below the horizon, Erin suddenly feels very tired. She heads back to her room to lie down, but can't seem to find sleep. Something just doesn't feel right, but she dismisses it as loneliness. It's the same every year. "Nooks's not going to be very happy about this," she says to no one in particular. With nothing better to do, she just lies back and stares at the ceiling.

Sarah after having been blindsided (?) with a kiss on the hand from Lance had a look of confusion and mild detest on her face unsure on what to say.
"Thanks for the offer but I have too umm," Sarah said trying to think of something to stay.
"I think she means to say thanks for the offer but she has to disinfect her hand," Mark said.
"Not sure where you got the impression that your her soon to be husband, but well this is the first I heard about it," Mark said stepping between Sarah and Lance.
"Mark its fine, no need to feed the trolls," Sarah said trying to calm down Mark.
"But its the same thing every time thinking he can act anyway he pleases just because of who he is," Mark said. "I mean I would think I am all important with my parrot to his left (in reference to twigy) and Donkey Kong to his right (in reference the stout one)," Mark said.
"Anyways if you don't mind I will be escorting Sarah to the Obliesk building," Mark said with a hint of annoyance.

"No one was talking to you brat," Lance hissed. "Why don't you go play with your imaginary friends?"
-----
Alicia sighed as she came into view of Fortune Square, and happened upon a very familiar sight.
... He just never learns, does he?
She strides up towards the square, a look of fiery annoyance in her eyes, sending students fleeing from her in terror. It was almost comical. A few first years whispered to themselves, but only because they didn't know who she was. Or the firestorm that was coming. She managed to reach the square just in time to catch the tail end of the "conversation", but none of the parties involved had noticed her yet. That was about to change.
".... Why don't you go play with your imaginary friends?"
"Why don't you take your own advice?" Alicia interrupts, drawing all attention to her. "I'm sure your imaginary wife must be jealous. Shouldn't you call her and ease her mind? Cheating is bad, you know."
His face darkens and he sputters in outrage. "H-How dare you! How dare you speak to me that way! Learn your place, you-"
"No, you learn your place," Alicia interrupts again, her patience drawing thin. "Now get lost before I call the principal."
"I-I'll tell my brother about this!" Lance stammers in indignation.
Alicia gives a very unladylike snort. "Go ahead. Just remember whose name is really on the building. Who do you think your brother will side with? The heir to the company? Or his younger dweeb of a brother? Now get lost. I'm not going to tell you again."
"This isn't over, Witch!!!" He shouts, his face bright red with embarrassment and anger. Then Lance Stark whirls on his heel and storms off, with his flunkies trailing behind him like coat tails.
Alicia sighs again. What an awesome start to the day.

"Imaginary friends how would he know about that," Mark thought to himself. "I mean the only person who knows about me seeing duel spirits is Sarah and I am pretty sure the last person she would tell is that Jack ass," Mark thought while staring into space.
"Thank you Alicia, for your help," Sarah said. "No idea why he thinks I can stomach his presence, let alone marry him, *shutter*," Sarah said to Alicia.
"Umm oh yeah thanks Alicia even though I could have used the warm up duel though," Mark said snapping out of his day dreaming.
"So Alicia how does it feel being a fourth year student?" Mark asked. "Must have a lot of things going through your mind, but just think one more year and your free to go where you please, mind you this island isn't half bad," Mark said. Sarah gave Mark a dirty look because she knows that Mark loves this place more then everyone.
"Anyways, Alicia thank you for saving Mark back there, sigh I tell Mark not to give into his antics but does he ever listen Nnnnnoooooooo," Sarah says to Mark as Mark just glares at her. "By the way what are you up to, I have some free time left and well nothing really to do," Sarah asked Alicia

Aaron cuts through Fortune Square on his way to his first class. He weaves through the new students just beginning to diffuse throughout campus searching for their orientations, regretting not taking a longer route.
He notices one group of people who seem to be having a disagreement. Oh, not people - well, two people, and a group of tools, led by that one guy. La... La... Lance? Lanny? Close enough. No question who's in the wrong here, that Larry's infamously a jerk. Always starting thinking he can do whatever he wants because of his brother. Aaron starts to head over to give him a piece of his mind, but he's cut off by some blue-haired Obelisk girl.
And she lights Lamar up. Aaron smiles as Lazar's group runs off with their tail between their legs. That girl's pretty cool. And familiar-looking. He's sure she's... Eh, not important. Aaron continues on the way to class in a much-improved mood.

"Let's go!" Celio shouted as the classroom hologram projection system started up.
A coin flipped and landed on tails, giving Celio the first turn. He drew his hand of six and listened to each card effect through his earpiece before setting a monster.
"Your turn."

A few minutes later, Hector and Emma arrived back at his garage. He left a message with Michael to just leave the bike out back, then gave Emma a brief tour of the place. "It's not much, but I take pride in it. Make yourself at home."
After pouring them both some tea, he spreads out his research notes on the table and rolls over another prototype Duel Runner installed with his custom accelerator. "One of the problems I've encountered is getting the chip to sync properly with the engine," Hector begins as Emma joins him.
The pair begin to work, testing out new ideas and coming up with new solutions, and they're so focused on their work, they don't even notice the front door swing open.
"Hey boss, I'm back! Left the bike out back like you said, picked up the parts you asked-"
He stopped mid sentence as he saw their guest. "Emma? Holy crap, what are the chances!"
Hector looks back and forth between the two, arching an eyebrow. "You two know each other?"
-----
"No thanks," Alicia replied coldly. "I didn't save you so we could become best friends. I just wanted to ruin Lance's day. Now if you'll excuse me, I'm going to study. See you around."
With that, she walked away without another word, heading towards the library.

"Geez all i did was ask if we can walk to class together," Sara sighed. "Would it kill her to show a little interest in human interaction?" Sara said. "Well Mark see you later today, off to class," Sara said as she made her way towards the Oblisek building.
"Man what a first day of class," Mark said. "Well i got nothing to do might as well go back to lounging," Mark said as he rested on top of a hill watchingthe clouds

"We've been great," Michael replied cheerfully, practically bouncing down the steps. "We finally got up enough money to move into a bigger apartment and we're closer to the city now. Ryn and I still argue over a name for the baby at least three times a night, but what else is new? So, you two working on the new accelerator chip?"
He walks over and casually leans over the table where they were working, propping his chin up on his hands in a way that made him look like an overgrown teenager- despite him actually being older than Hector. "Looking good, boss. Looking good."
Hector rolls his eyes. He was a good assistant and had a decent understanding of runners, but as far as acceleration programs went, he wouldn't know a C-Chip from an engine coil. "So, how long have you two known each other?" Hector asks, changing the subject.
"A long time," Michael answers, beaming. "Taryn, Emma and I have been friends for years. We practically grew up together. Better question is, how did you two meet? Wait, no- lemme guess: you were out taking the new runner for a test drive, thinking you're the only one crazy enough to use the old track, and Emma was already there practicing. I'm gonna guess... She challenged you, and you accepted cause you're both gearheads with questionable sanity, and the poor runner out back paid the ultimate price. That about sum it up? Yep, thought so."
Taryn, if you gave him caffeine again just to punish me, I swear...
Hector sighs and opens his mouth to speak, but before he gets a chance, Michael turns to Emma and grins mischievously. "Hey Emma, you still teach at the academy in the city right? How would you like a celebrity guest duelist for the festival?"
Hector glared daggers at him. "Michael..." He warned.
Of course, he was completely unfazed by said warning and proceeded to ignore it. "Come on boss, you need to get out of the house and talk to people every once in a while. You know, the whole human interaction thing. You're still a fan of pro dueling, right Emma? Well, your new friend here is the former Champ."

"What a day, indeed," a faint, feminine voice says from beside Mark. A ghostly figure in a blue-and-pink dress and hat with wild blonde hair imitates his posture. "That Lance guy's a jerk, huh?"

"You can say that again Sar.....," Mark was about to say Sara when he looked over and saw the duel spirit of the Dark Magician Girl laying next to him on the hill.
Before Mark said anything to her, he wanted to make sure nobody else was around. When Mark saw that nobody was around, he began speaking to the duel spirit right beside him.
"Sigh you know how I feel about talking to you in public" Mark sighed laying back on the hill. "It's bad enough that jerk Lance is becoming suspicious the last thing I need is the whole school getting wind," Mark said.
"But now that your here glad to see you," Mark said to DM Girl in a calmer tone. "So what do you think about everything Lance, Alicia, Sara, just kinda of want to get your perspective about everything," Mark asked DM Girl
