"Letting you go from the hospital means that we can't keep you safe from anyone out here who'd want to see you dead." The man explained as he slowly took a step towards Alexa. "We're chasing you for your safety. We're going to take you in for your safety. I'm a Conduit myself. We are the only place you can belong. Society won't accept us normally. It took saving an entire city to make people trust one small handful of Conduits, and it only worked here. We don't scare you. It's the truth that scares you. You don't want to face it, but it's there. People think you're a freak, an aberration. They don't like you, but we do. We are doing this because we like you, because we want to save you and any others like us."

Maybe there is some truth to that... Even I think I'm a freak. But why do I have to feel like I don't belong anywhere, with anyone? I don't feel like I belong with the CDDA...
Alexa began to raise her head, as she took a few steps toward the man who said he was a Conduit.
But that's not any different than how I'll feel when around normal people now. They might try to make my life horrible if they learn I'm a Conduit...

"Thank you." The Conduit spoke as he presented his hand to Alexa. "I promise you that we will help you. We're not the bad guys, and neither are you."

'"Save America, not Bio-terrorists!" Nathan heard the call from outside the resteraunt.
"Santa's unshaven beard." He muttered under his breath as he wadded up a small towel he was using to clean off the fryer and stormed out of the kitchen and to the front door of the restaurantt.
"I thought I told you idiots to keep your protesting away from the restaurant!" Nathan shouted as he grabbed one of the signs and tore it up before throwing it on the ground. "You can eat here, but keep your hate-fueled bigotry at least a couple blocks down! It slows business."
"The first amendment gives us a right to free speech, you dirty America-hater!" one of the more obnoxious protesters yelled.
"That's not how the first amendment works." Nathanael facepalmed as he picked up the torn sign he had shredded. "You have the right to free speech on public property. The government can't take that away. However, on private property, such as this restaurant and the surrounding areas, we can shut you up as much as we like to. Now that I've given you a lesson on rights, get the off of our property! No one likes you, and your mere stink stops business!"

It was silent as Alexa started walking towards the man. She was looking down, refusing to look anyone else in the eyes as she thought. Because of that, they couldn't see any indication that her mind was changing, since she kept a calm face. But that was far from the reality of her chaotic thoughts, and the crazy decision she had come to, even though she didn't dare to even think about what she was about to do. She instead had chosen to deny her own part in deciding on it, blaming it instead on instinct, insanity, uncontrollable powers...anything but herself.
Just as soon as she reached the man, she could feel a change occur as her arm, and her hand, were quickly covered in some sort of blade made out of feathers. Just as suddenly as she had made the blade, she made one swift movement, stabbing the man in the stomach. By the time anyone realized what had just happened, Alexa was already reaching out to pull herself up onto the roof of the short building just to the left of them. Wasting no time at all, she made her escape using the rooftops, fire escapes, alleys, and anything else along the way.
Gritting her teeth as she ran using the shadows as cover, she refused to acknowledge that her left arm and hand, which were now covered in a shell of hardened feathers and turned into a weapon, was dripping with blood. She only did what she had to do, she wasn't some cold blooded monster... Was she?

"Hrghk!" The Conduit grunted as he fell to his knees to recover his wounds. "After her, quickly! She's dangerous! Use any means necessary, but capture her alive!"
The Conduit was left alone as the rush of soldiers stampeded after Alexa.
"Damn b****." He muttered under his breath as he found the strength to stand up, his wound now partially healed. "Why do they have to run?"
The Conduit started a light jog that quickly transformed into a full-on sprint before he launched a cord of wire to lift him to a rooftop to pursue Alexa.
---
"That's him!" A very sickly looking man accompanied by two other fellows, presumably his friends, pointed at Nathan as coughed and wheezed.
"Who!?" The raucous protester asked as he cleared the path for the sick man.
"The guy who did this to me." The man showed his pale and veiny face with reddened eyes to the protester. "This happened to me after eating here. He's the cook, he must have poisoned me or something."
"Now before you jump to conclusions," Nathan replied a bit nervously as he noticed the activists getting a bit tense. "Why would I poison someone. It's inhumane, pointless, and bad for business. Why in Norris' name would I do that!?"
"You're a terrorist!" A female protester cried. "You poisoned him because you hate America."
Nathanael facepalmed as another protester shouted.
"He's a Bio-Terrorist!"
"Conduit!" Nathan shouted back as he lowered his hand. "And I'm not one of them! Sure, I tested positive, but I'm not active! This is your last warning. Vacate these premises or I will be forced to remove you!"
Several more ill folk began to crowd the street and mutter amongst themselves.
"That's the cook!"
"He looks like he's ready to kill someone."
"He's a Bio-Terrorist! Run!"
"I said remove your filthy, dirtbag trash selves from this private property!" Nathan finally yelled as he was completely fed up with the crowd.
"Remove this!" A protester suddenly rammed a small knife into Nathan's gut before he fell to the ground.

After running for quite some time, still not seeing anything familiar that would help her figure out exactly where she was, Alexa, tired and feeling incredibly guilty about what she had done, sat down in an alley behind some crates. They provided some cover, but in her current state, she wasn't worried about anything like that. She just clenched her teeth, and held up her arm, trying to see using the very small amount of light that reached the narrow alley. Seeing all the blood, she shut her eyes tightly, and started shaking. Then she wrapped her right arm around her legs, as she pulled herself into a fetal position while leaving her left arm sitting on the ground as far away from herself as she could, and started crying.
What have I done? Why did this happen?!

She's right there...
The Conduit slowly closed in on Alexa as he saw her from the rooftops. She was crying to herself, soldering what clothes she had with her tears.
I wouldn't blame her. We're after her, and she knows that once she's captured, she'll be imprisoned for her resistance. Hopefully her stay will be shorter than most.
He crept down the side of the building he was on onto the one directly above Alexa before extending a wire from his wrist that tightly wrapped itself around Alexa's neck to cause her to pass out.
---
"Grugh..." Nathanael grabbed the shank embedded into his stomach as he fell backwards, bleeding all over his clothes. "Goddamn bastards."
He winced in pain as he slowly extracted the knife from his abdomen and set it aside as he struggled to stand back up.
"Get the hell off of this street before I beat you down to hell and back!" Nathan shouted as he painfully stood straight and grabbed the violent protester by the collar before throwing him on the ground. "And keep your bigoted asses out of the refugee camps!"
The activist slowly scrambled away before standing up and running away with the other protesters as Nathan cracked his knuckles and caught a baseball bat thrown to him by a random passerby who watched the whole thing.
"You alright man?" the stranger asked as Nathan headed inside. "We should get you to a hospital."
"No, I'm fine." He replied as he pressed his finger against the wound, only to find that it was already mostly closed. "Just get me some wet paper towels to clean up."
"It's the least I could do." the man gave a thumbs up before heading into the restaurant's bathroom.

As she sat there in that alley, finally having to face what she had done, Alexa felt something wrap around her neck. She started pulling and clawing the wire, trying to break free. Next she tried to scream, but whatever it was had tightened to quickly, so the only sounds she made were from choking.
Who is doing...this? And...why...? I can't...br-...
Alexa then lost consciousness, and she was completely unprepared for what she would face the next time she opened her eyes.

This isn't right... I'm sure the knife was bigger than that. It's only...
Nathan rubbed his wound once more only to find that it had completely sealed over.
What the hell's happening to me? Am I turning into the Wolverine? Please be the Wolverine. That would be awesome. Though I'd prefer Superman.
"Hey I got the-dude!" The friendly man rushed up to Nathan carrying the paper towels. "You should be lying down, getting some rest!"
"Just gimme the paper towels." He replied as he snatched them from the man and headed into the bathroom himself to look into a mirror.
The most likely explanation is that I'm somehow a Conduit. That's pretty cool except for the fact that I'm now a wanted fugitive in 43 states. Wonder what I could do with this. Maybe become some sort of masked vigilante? No, too cheesy, plus, I don't look good in spandex.

"Yo, wake up." A guard lightly slapped Alexa on the face to rouse her. "You've been out for a while. Get some rest, eat some food, and try not to piss anyone off. You're already in a spot of trouble since you decided to stab the commander."
The guard hauled the half-conscious woman onto the small bed inside of the cell before walking out and pulling a switch which caused the walls to hum slightly.
"Word to the wise: don't use your powers." He explained as he slid a tray of food through a slot in the door. "These grids will zap you if you do. It won't kill you, but it'll put you out of commission for a while. Hey, it's better than what the DUP did. So, stay out of trouble and you'll be okay. You look like a nice enough girl."

Where am I?
As Alexa started to regain consciousness, and opened her eyes, she was very confused about where she was, or what had happened. Her eyes had yet to adjust to the bright light, which for a few moments made her think she was outside. But, it wasn't warm like sunlight, and there wasn't even the slightest breeze. Once she could barely make out the details of her surroundings, she saw white walls and cold, white tile floors. Then she was put down on something that was covered with fabric, and despite there being some sort of mattress, she could feel the metal frame through it.
The walls and floor, am I back at the hospital? No...no, they wouldn't have to carry me to a bed if I was there. And this isn't a hospital bed. But then...where am I?
Alexa's vision cleared up, as a guard walked out the door. He must have activated some sort of device, as a slight humming noise could be heard in the room after that. Finally, he slid a tray through a slot in the door, and warned her.
I'm... I'm in a prison. But how... Wait, I ran, then...I- I stabbed that man... The CDDA captured me after that?
She sat up, and saw that she was wearing a blue, sleeveless shirt and pants of the same color.
They were able to change my clothes too!? How long was I unconscious?
Alexa closed her eyes tightly, not trying to understand what was happening to her, but trying to deny it. As she shook her head in an attempt to wake up from the nightmare she thought she must be having, she pictured her own apartment, thinking she would wake up in her bedroom at home.
This can't be happening! It can't be...!
She fell back onto the bed, as she continued to shake her head. Soon she started crying, and she curled up into a fetal position again. While she violently shook her head, and every time she sat it back down for a minute, yet another thing seemed wrong, her hair wasn't getting into her face and she didn't feel it underneath her head either. For a moment she was moving her hand towards her head, to try and confirm her fears, but then she just couldn't do it.
They didn't cut my hair too, did they? They couldn't have...! I just want this to end, it has to end...! If I can use my powers, the nightmare will end and I'll be alright, I'll be awake again! I just need to...figure out how to use them, then it will be back to normal. I know it! I...I know it.
As she tried desperately to do something with her powers, Alexa kept repeating those last three words to herself, although with less and less certainty. But she didn't give up her fight, even as the humming of the electric grids made gradually got louder. That's because, she was starting to use her powers, but she had no idea what she was doing, and it was so slow it had yet to register as a large enough threat, but it was about to. And as birdlike wings finally formed, Alexa felt a powerful electrical current run through her body, and she blacked out again, simply hoping that she would soon awaken at home...

"Hey, Raleigh." Nathan called as he walked out of the bathroom and approached the very moe waitress. "Tell Uncle that I'm calling in sick for the rest of the day. I need to cool off for a bit, so get Jensen to cover for me while I'm gone."
"O-Kay!" Raleigh replied with a smile and thumbs up as she saw Nathan walk out the door before her response.
Nathan decided to take a stroll around town until he saw one of the protesters from earlier taking to some other guys causing Nathan to head into a nearby alleyway and hide behind a green dumpster.
Those idiots will just attack me again. They're bound to come back to the restaurant eventually. Just learn their faces as leave whenever they come by.
After a quick breather, he stood up and stretched a bit before noticing something strange.
Wasn't that just green a minute ago? Wait, hold on...
Nathanael thought for a second before placing his hand on a conveniently placed spot of graffiti on the wall adjacent to him before seeing the paint slowly creep into his hand.

Subject ID: 008-7495-1-356 Name: Carter, Alexa Age: 17 Power: Feather Alexa attacked a CDDA Conduit before trying to flee the scene before we captured her. Has little mastery of her power. Recommend rehabilitation over testing and training.
The guard entered Alexa's profile into the database as he noticed her being shocked by the electric grid installed in her cell.
They never listen. Why? It's for their own good.

I hate school days.
Uther opened up the door of his limousine. Being the son of two infamous scientists that discovered Conduits and how they worked sucked big time. "Have a good day young Proteus." His chauffeur smiled. Uther gave a nod of acknowledgment as he shut the door. His fan club crowded around him and one touched his blonde hair and squealed.
Oh for the love of Cole MacGrath get off my hair.
He pushed himself through the crowd looking for his friend, Helen Nascaera. He spotted a blob of black hair and blue eyes and shouted. "Hey Helen!" The girl turned around, flashing him a bright smile. "Hello Uther, running late?" She smirked.
Alright at the end of the day I'll ask her out.
Breaking from his thoughts, he jerked a hand in the advancing fan clubs direction. "Courtesy of my loyal fans." He said sarcastically. The two made their way into their math class. Mr Tom peered at the two behind his classes before continuing his lesson to the rest of the students. The rest of the day passed by rather uneventfully for Uther. The bell rung, signaling the end of the day.
"I...need to tell you something." Uther sighed, Dragging Helen to the courtyard. "Wow, aren't you eager?" Helen teased. Uther ignored her comment and chose a seat.
"Look we have to talk. We've known each other since Elementry right? He asked hesitantly. Helen nodded and raised an eyebrow. "What I really want to say, he paused, "is that I like you." He blushed.
Helens eyes widened in shock and she opened her mouth a few times before closing. Unbeknownst to both of them an Azure wavered it's way over to them. "That's great Uther, I-
Whatever she was about to say was cut off as Uther was sent tumbling into the cement. His head smacked against the concrete. He heard Helen scream, and then complete silence. Before he lost consciousness he groaned.
Helen...W-he...re? ------------------------------- A week. That's how long it had been since Helen had been announced hospitalized. and he, Uther Proteus in the hospital. He clenched his fist against the bloodstained bandages on his arms. It was odd, he felt no pain and in fact felt better than ever. He looked down at his hand and flinched, sparks of lightning dances from them an when the door opene he hid them. He looked up as the Nurse came in with a grim expression, "I have good and bad news, which first?" She said somberly. "Good." He grunted. "The good is you'll be released today, she swallowed," I'm sorry to say your Mother didn't make it, but your father did." The nurse sighed and walked out the room.
Uther's eyes snapped open and he let out a Anguished scream at the revelation.

I'm well aware, more than that in fact. But sheesh is this guy defensive. Alissa briefly glances over the menu again. Her selection is made rather haphazardly as the waiter tries his best to remain patient. "I'll have the Georgia Red Shrimp with the Local Berkshire Pork Belly for the first course." The waiter tries to ask what wine she'd like with that, but she doesn't let him get a word in before continuing. "And the House Made Ricotta Dumplings with Fava Beans to follow, followed by the Long Island Duck, I suppose the fortsonia for a fourth course, and for the last one, I'll take the chocolate cake."
"And what wine would you like with your first course." The waiter finally gets to say, which oddly reminds Alissa that she never actually turned the recorder on. Memory association is weird like that.
"I'll let him decide." Alissa says while just noticing a metal goblet.
Forget what I thought about defensive, that's plain... odd. Is he hiding something?

"Pinot Grior." Vincent answered as he looked at Alissa. "I'd like the shrimp too, nothing else."
She's asking all the wrong questions.
"I don't eat much. That happens when you grow up in a poor family." He continued as the waiter left. "Anyways, it is our job to ensure the safety of Conduits and detain any hostile ones for everyone's sake. The government isn't the most careful with this. That's why they handed this job to us. Keeping people safe is our top priority, and sometimes imprisonment is the safest thing for the prisoners."

Conduit. He kept hearing that word for the past week.
Uther looked at his hands which once more sparked with electricity. He looked over at Helen who was oddly quiet. They hadn't spoken about what he had said before an explosion engulfed the city. "Helen." He whispered.
Helen looked over to him with curious eyes," I heard them talking. They said they gave us an conduit test. I-it... Oh god, Uther it came back positive." She sobbed. Uther stood there shocked and looked at his own hands. " I- we're conduits?" He asked. After all that did explain the electricity.
a noise interrupted Helens next words. "I'm sorry sir, but I can't let you take my patients."A voice called out.
" we are taking them to a better place, it's not safe for Conduits to be around normal humans." The Male voice said softly. uther strained his ears, yet years nothing for a few moments. a sigh, then words. "Very well, they are healthy as it is. Take them somewhere safe." The nurse replied.
"Sorry ma'am, but Vincent banks will take care of them and keep them safe." A deep voice said with sincere regret.
who the heck is Vincent banks? Bette place for conduits? God how the blazes am I a conduit.
Uther looked at his hand and grimaced. "Well... Guess that's confirmed. We are conduits." He said weakly.
"I think we need to go Helen, and fast." Uther said grimly. "I can't." Helen muttered. Uther looked at her before he saw the bandages around her leg. She had have been still recovering.
i feel amazing, but is it possible she hasn't kicked in her powers yet?
Uther rushed over to her just as the knob of the door turned. He scooped her up gently and ran the window. " let's go." Uther chuckled. He grunted as he raised the window just as the door burst open. He could hear the faint opening of the door and a gasp.
"god, you are crazy." Helen whispered as Uther launched them out the window. Uther swallowed and held his hand out towards the side of a nearby building. Please work.
to his surprise a stream of electricity in the shape of a claw attached itself to the building and pulled them up. "next stop my fathers lab, but first I must say I am amazing." He smirked. Careful of his passenger he jumped off the building and repeated his electricity Tether.
