Ten minutes later...
A nurse, the busty one from earlier, walked into Alexa's room only to find her missing.
"She's gone!" The nurse yelled into the hospital hallway. "The Conduit's free!"

And it only took ten minutes for them to figure that out. But, that answers one of my questions. They were trying to keep me here. And...I am an active Conduit. Where will I go after all this? Will I figure out how to use my powers?
Alexa looked to where her hand would be, unable to see where it really was through the darkness. She had absorbed a feather, but what did that really mean for her? Until she could figure that out, she had to use every skill if she was going to escape safely. But, she needed an opening, one that would only come once they started searching for her in places that where she knew better than to hide.
I just need them to scatter, and spread themselves too thin, then I can really make a break for it. Wherever I end up going, at least I'll be free.

"So that's the guy... he makes great wings." Alissa couldn't help but facepalm that time.
"You mean you've been eating here for a few years and you never bothered to find out who the cook was? Just, nevermind. What's the scoop?"
"I'm glad you finally asked. Remember that guy who claimed to be locked by the C.D.D.A.? Well he gave us the full story yesterday, despite still fearing being hunted by them, and now all you have to do is confirm the story with Banks. Get him to talk about any kidnappings, experiments and any other assorted illegal activities, and your buddies at FAIR should be able to help get this thing published." Alissa couldn't help but smile as the lead was finally getting somewhere.
"F***ing finally! I can get the hard truth out there." Lee suddenly got a hot sauce stained smirk.
"Oh, I bet Vincent will give you something hard." Her joy quickly became frustration, one she was very much used to. Flipping him the bird, she replied.
"Right there for ya buddy. You know where to shove it."
"I'm sure he'll be shoving something in you." Sighing in what was a mixture of giving up and defeat, she simply asked,
"Where's the place anyway?" With complete professionalism he told her,
"Bacchanalia, on 1198 Howell Mill Road. Reservations are at 8:00 PM sharp. His secretary was quite adamant on this being the place. She picked it out herself." Alissa wondered on the effects of the change in venue.
"Tch, well I don't really have anything in my closet for a five star restaurant, but this does give me an excuse to go shopping and I have been meaning to get a mani-pedi recently. Maybe I can also try a new hairstyle."
"Hey if you're dolling yourself up," Lee added out of the blue, "Be sure to send me a pic, for the record books of course."
"Only in your dreams toad." She told him playfully as she got up and grabbed the keys to her 67' Chevy impala.
"Well if you spot any beautiful ladies in the mall be sure to advertise for the soon to be prince."
"I'm sure they'll come rushing by the hundreds." She added right before she left, "Say hi to Rayleigh for me if she's back soon."
[Later that day at 7:55 P.M.]
Alissa was standing outside the restaurant with her hair done up elegantly in waves. She wore a thin silver necklace and a pair of small platinum hoop earrings with her brand new black dress. Her make-up matched her skin tone almost perfectly and her lipstick was a sensual red with shimmering pink undertones. Her three inch stilettos matched her dress color.
Reluctantly she handed the keys to her Mustang GT500 to the valet. As she waited for Vincent to arrive, she couldn't help but notice all the stares she was getting from some of the men also arriving.

"Well you look unexpectedly good." Vincent remarked as he snuck up on Alissa wearing a standard black tuxedo and then beckoned her into the door. "Contrary to my choice of local, this isn't a date. It's just a good idea to keep the reporters happy."
---
"Check the other rooms! Check the offices! Check the entrances! She's a Conduit, so she could be dangerous!" One of the doctors shouted in the main hall. "Leave no stone unturned and block every exit!"
---
"Hey! Stop stealing my customers!" Shouted a bizarrely moe waitress who was wearing a pair of cat ears for some reason. "Get back to work!"
"I was about to say the same to you, Raleigh!" Nathan shouted back at the waitress who just came out of the bathroom before walking back into the kitchen. "You know I don't like dealing with customers!"

Okay, avoid the other patient's rooms, the offices, and the entrances. If I can reach that staircase that no one uses near the back of the hospital, and get down several floors fast, maybe I can reach a floor they aren't searching yet and find a window close enough the ground or another rooftop...
Alexa began to crawl in the general direction of the back staircase, which she remembered was almost directly across from her room.
I can hear people running around, so I must still be near the hallway.

"She jumped out of the window, right?" Hououin asked Stein as they quickly paced down the main stairwell. "She could be crawling down the outside."
"She's not." Steins replied sane made his way to the third floor entrance. "She doesn't have the experience to effectively climb an effectively flat surface. Sure, she was a stuntman, but a ventilation shaft would make more sense. She could have his under the bed, but I doubt the staff here is that incompetent. She could be listening to us now."
The agent spoke the last bit in a low whisper before shouting.
"We're going to check out the first floor!"

There's a very good chance that they'll be swarming the lower floors since that's where it would be easiest for me to escape. So, that leaves the questions of where should I try to go? ...The fourth floor is still a little bit high, which would mean they'll think I'm less likely to go there. But, they might just position people on the floor anyway, especially if they're thinking the same way I am, and this floor is also going to be crazy. So the only way to go...
Alexa stopped moving for a minute, as she tried to think about how the hospital was built There had to be a smaller wing with a rooftop she could easily reach... Then, just as suddenly as she had stopped moving, she began to make her way to the staircase again, at a much faster pace that time.
That's it! There's a roof over the area where the ambulances pull up to the ER, and it's right about two and a half, three stories tall. It's a little risky, but if I went up one more floor, the rooftop would be just below the windows of the rooms near the staircase!
She smiled as she kept going, until she felt a wall in front of her. Slowly, she raised up the tile nearest to her, just barely moving it enough to see she was right above the door to the staircase. She then watched carefully, waiting for someone to walk through it. Just as a doctor walked through the door and head down the stairs, Alexa silently dropped down and rolled through the open door, completely undetected by the distracted hospital staff.
If I had opened the door for myself, they would have looked up when they heard it open. But since they just saw that guy open it and walk through, they went back to searching elsewhere. It's a good thing I've always been able to land quietly, or else he would have heard me.
She didn't waste any time before running up the stairs making very little noise as she did so. Determined not to be seen, she stayed back from the door a little ways, crouching on the steps and looking around the corner. She was waiting for someone to walk through it as well, and hopefully go upstairs. If she timed it right, she could slip through that door and into another patient's room without alerting any of the staff. If she didn't...
I have to think positive. I'm going to get out of here, no matter what.

"Well I didn't want to under dress for such a fine establishment." Alissa politely remarked as the hostess lead them to their table.
"You're waiter will be here soon to take you order." The hostess amicably stated as she left them with menus. Alissa was rather confused by the menu items as she was not use to many high class commodities. Deciding to bother with it later she pulled a recorder out of her clutch. "This is an interview as you said. I hope you don't mind, this is just for the archives." --- Lee spotted Raleigh and waved over to her. "Real ball of sunshine that cook is. You know I ordered a coke and he forgot to bring it."

"Well, that isn't his job." Raleigh replied as she shook her head. "You should be thankful that he brought you your food, which currently resides on your face."
She grabbed a napkin from her waitress' pouch and put it on the table before leaving. Work continued on as usual as customers came and went. Though, there were some strange rumors floating around.
---
"I don't mind." It's better for you to be able to look back on this conversation." Vincent replied before bringing out a metal goblet so he wouldn't absorb the glass ones they had provided. "What of our real goal, intentions, and actions do you wish to know? I assume that that's why you are here. You wish to uncover some dirt on me, correct? Well uncover away."

"Hey, what are you doing in here?!" a patient yelled at Alexa as she snuck into their room.
Great, I waited a long time to avoid being seen, and now this woman is going to alert the entire staff and the CDDA agents! I don't have time for this...
Alexa didn't stop, and she went over to the window, trying to get it open. As the patient began screaming for help, Alexa was able to open the window, and after taking a deep breath, she took a few steps back before running and leaping out of the window.
"Maybe this wasn't the best idea..." she said to herself as she landed and rolled forwards a little ways. "I don't have any time to waste!"
She stood back up and started running across the rooftop, trying to reach the edge closest to the ground, and to other buildings. She knew the next thing for her to do was put distance between herself and the hospital, and then try to find some clothes so she could blend in with the other people in the city better.

"Goddammit!" Steins shouted as he saw Alexa running across a rooftop through a window. "Hououin, call for backup!"
"Right away!" Hououin replied as he took out a communicator with a stoic face. "This is Gate. We have a Conduit on the loose. Power is unknown, we request ground troops and air support. Do not, I repeat, do not use lethal rounds. We must capture her alive."

"That's such an ugly way of phrasing it. We just want to get the truth out there. After the actions the D.U.P. took, many conduits are suspicious of your organization." Before she could ask him the first question, their waiter arrived ready to take the order. Alissa looked over the menu confused by some of the menu options and unsure of how to order. --- "She's so strange." Lee thought out loud and left the tip before leaving himself. Right, now I gotta get back to the safehouse. I hope that conduit didn't get too anxious. He was so worried about being left alone.

"Well, most people don't like being locked up." Vincent said nonchalantly as he looked through the menu. "Our job is to capture and contain Conduits in order to protect society from them, or in most cases, protect them from society. Do you know how many Conduits are killed in lynch mobs every year? Thousands. Brooke Augustine hid the fact that the DUP was operating to protect Conduits, but we actively embrace that fact. The government isn't properly trained nor disciplined to handle the job properly, plus there are many prejudices against Conduits. Note my terminology. These are Conduits, good-willing citizens like you, not Bio-Terrorists."

Alexa jumped off of the rooftop, and after taking a moment to decide on what direction she would head, started running out of the parking lot. She was going towards a group of buildings, planning to use the narrow alleys to shake of anyone who might be following her, even though it was far from a perfect plan. Her best chance to escape anyone was still her own abilities, she could run faster than anyone else she had ever met and she could climb fast as well. As long as she was in an urban area, she had a good chance to get away.
Where I am going to find some normal clothes? I can't just walk around the city until I find some...
She quickly reached the alleys, and didn't waste any time, weaving through them randomly to confuse the people who may or may not have been there. The whole time, she didn't bother to look behind her, knowing that she just needed to keep going.

"She's heading east! I see her on the cameras!" A voice called through Hououin's communicator as they rushed out the hospital door and tried to tail Alexa. "She's trying to blend either crowds, backup should be on its way!"
Soon, three armored vans filled with a handful of enforcers each surrounded the location of where Alexa was last spotted.
"We have you surrounded, so please come out peacefully!" A female voice called from a speaker attached to one of the cars. "If not, then allow the other civilians in the area to evacuate!"

Wait, they think I've already tried to blend in with a crowd of people? As if no one would notice a girl in a hospital gown trying to blend in. Idiots.
Alexa had been hiding behind a corner in one of the alleys, and was looking around the edge, seeing the backs of CDDA enforcers who had formed a perimeter around the area she had been several minutes before.
If they know I went this way, I should try heading the opposite way to put more distance between us.
She then started going west, making sure to be as quiet as she could.

"She fell for it." The voice from the communicator spoke again. "Sending an additional unit west of the other one. Hououin, grab Steins and clean up."
"Yes, sir." Hououin replied with stoicism as he put the communicator away before heading to Alexa's estimated location. "Steins, Charlie wants us to head to her location about a click from here."
"Got it." Steins replied after unpacking a large duffel bag and pulling out some stun guns and gas grenades and following suit.

Alexa's thoughts were interrupted, and her worst fears were realized. At every entrance or exit from the alley she was currently in, CDDA agents blocked the path, surrounding her.
Wh-...what do I do? How am I supposed to escape?!

"Miss Carter?" A very pronounced and somewhat regal voice called from behind a stream of soldiers. "I'm afraid I must ask you to surrender and come with us. No harm will be done if you cooperate. It's for your safety and the safety of others."
A tall, thin man with a sharp face appeared from the crowd of soldiers and presented himself to Alexa before continuing.
"I know you must be scared, but this is for the good of everyone. You don't know how to use your powers and could end up hurting everyone around you. Allow us to help."
The man's tone and expression were slightly sincere, but his eyes betrayed his open demeanor.

"I'm more scared of you than anything else. If you were just going to keep me locked up inside that hospital until it was convenient and you decided what to do with me... And now you're chasing me down like some animal you're hunting, like prey..." Alexa said slowly as she lowered her head, "Then what will you be willing to do to me if I do go with you? You're not treating me like a human being already, so why should I believe things will get better?"
I want to believe that they're as good as they say they are, but all the evidence points to that being false. If I can't trust them, then...
