"I'm sorry!" The agent cried with legitimate care. "It's just that it's not just the electric shock, but the impulses sent to and from your brain in reaction to the surprise electricity! You know, working for the CDDA is much harder than you think."

His personality changed so suddenly, but why? He almost seems scared, and the look on his face...! What could have caused that? It seems to be linked to something traumatic, and more importantly, linked to this test.
Alexa didn't even try to hide her alarmed expression. In addition to that, after a few moments of awkward silence, she started to feel dizzy, and also looked really pale.
Now I really feel horrible... I wish I could get some fresh air, but last I checked, the window either doesn't open or is just stubborn. Well, at least I can look out of the window, and imagine I'm outside. As if it will do any good...

"Ah, don't mind him." The affable agent was unasked by the test as he motioned at the formerly stern one. "But he is right. Sometimes, we have to lock up people who've done nothing wrong just because the people are after them because they have special abilities they can't control. They aren't thrown ini prison or anything, but they can't leave Saint Ignatius even if they wanted to. People are dangerous and paranoid, so If you ever need help, call us. I'm Agent Steins, and my friend here is Hoheeha? Hohenheim? Houtou?"
"Hououin." The other agent corrected him. "Still have no idea why Steins is my superior. He couldn't find his way out of a cereal box."

"Okay. I'll do that," Alexa said as she nodded, before looking at the window. "Would either of you mind trying to open the window? Even if it's not that far open, that would be fine. I just need a little fresh air so I don't get really sick."
It should open. They're obviously much stronger than I am. But, I should at least do something in return.
Alexa then took the piece of paper, and despite the fact the she was weak and her hand was shaking, she signed it. She then held it out to them, as she tried to make it look like she wasn't feeling as bad as she really was. However, it didn't fool anyone.

"Thank you." Steins said as he accepted the piece of paper an handed it to Hououin before opening the window halfway through. "You really should eat the cookies, they'll help keep you alter and raise your lowered blood sugar. Your test results should arrive briefly. So, anything you'd like me to te-"
Steins phone chimed like a bell, interrupting his speech.
"Speak of the devil..." The agent pulled out his phone and looked at the text message he had just received. "Well, it appears that you are Conduit+, and the readings show that you may be activated, based on the high activity in your cells. However, it could just be that you release adrenaline early or have a fast metabolism."

"What...? How could that be possible?" Alexa asked.
That could explain a lot, like how I survived the blast. But...I don't want to be locked up for the rest of my life. I need some way to make them doubt that I am an active Conduit.
"I don't know much about things like that, let alone science, as that was never something I was good at. But...I don't feel any different from how I've always felt," she said, looking very sincere. "I've always had a lot of energy, but that's the only thing about me that's not normal. If you ask anyone I know, they'll tell you I've always been that way. I just...I honestly don't know how that could be possible, and I wouldn't feel any changes. I just don't know..."

"Hey, don't worry." Steins replied as he sat down in a chair next to Alexa. "It's most likely the medication that's having an affect on your cells. To be quite honest, we're not exactly sure how the Conduit gene works nor how those with it survive the RFI."
He slowly crept towards her as he gently grabbed her hand.
"Plus, even if you were active, we wouldn't try to capture you unless you cause some sort if trouble, and we wouldn't dare try to take you in here unless you were a criminal. Plus, the first thing we'd do is ask you to join us, but with the impression that the DUP left, most of Conduits we encounter are quite reluctant. We're not the bad guys."

"I'm just...scared, I guess. I don't understand it. Would I feel any different if I was an active Conduit? Please, I need some sort of answers." Alexa pleaded.
I know I feel different, and that's one of the signs of being an active Conduit. I know a lot more about Conduits than I'm letting on. Play the innocent, ignorant girl, and keep what I know to myself... Let them tell me what they do and don't know. I can figure things out if I have more facts, and know who I'm dealing with better.

"Conduits exhibit heightened cellular activity." Steins explained as Hououin noticed Alexa's subtle movements. "This means they heal, think, and move much faster than most people can. They also need to eat more in order to sustain their heightened metabolism, but they also live longer. They are resistant to disease and injury, and in general are very hard to kill. They also experience different reactions corresponding to their control, such as an electrokinetic igniting gunpowder if he touches it. You seem to know an awful little about Conduits. BioFrame Diagnostics has done much research on the subject, so you could check it out there. Anyways, Mrs. Carter, would you like us to stay here for a while?"

"...I wouldn't want you to get in trouble or anything if you're supposed to be talking to others as well. But, at least I know where to go if I have any more questions," Alexa said as she began to act tired, sitting back and starting to turn her head to look out of the window. "Thank you."
And once again, it's Miss Carter, not Mrs.!

"You're very welcome, Mrs. Carter." Stein replied as he stood up and beckoned a groaning Hououin I follow him out the door.

What am I going to do? Should I stay here, or try to get away?
Before long, she still hadn't been able to come to a decision, so Alexa just sighed and looked out the window.
I wish I could just get out through there. But it's way too far from the nearest rooftop, and there isn't any sort of ledge I could use. And there's no way I could get out by using the door. The minute I get out of this bed, an alarm alerts the nurses down the hall...

"Doctor Kyouma." Steins addressed Alexa's doctor as he was just about to enter her room. "We have reason to believe that your patient, Miss Alexandra Carter, is a Conduit. Do not let her go under any circumstances. Are we clear?"
"Of course." The doctor replied as he pulled his clipboard to his chest before walking away to another patient's room.

Well, my lunch should be here any minute now.
A few minutes later, Alexa's lunch did indeed arrive. It was a buffalo chicken sandwich, a snack size bag of potato chips, and a soda.
Great, I'm starving! And I won't even have...to.....get up. What?
Instead of doing the right thing, and setting the tray in front of Alexa, the woman carrying it put it on the table on the other side of the room, by the window. Without saying a word, they left, completely ignoring the frustrated look on Alexa's face.
"So much for quality service. I bet my food is cold, too..."
She sighed, and then stood up and walked over to the table, and sat down in the chair that faced it. She opened up the window more to let more air into the room, and turned on the TV. It was odd, because the first thing she saw was a scene that she was in. It was one of the early seasons of the show, right after she joined the cast.
Nope, time to find something else to watch. I can't stand watching myself on the TV...
Alexa started eating the lukewarm sandwich as she started flipping through TV channels, trying to find something interesting to watch.
And a nurse or the doctor will be entering the room because they know I got out of bed, in three, two, one...

"Miss Carter?" A particularly well-endowed nurse entered the room with a clipboard. "You should get back in bed. According to Dr. Kyouma, you still need to stay here for at least several more days. He's busy checking on another patient right now, so he sent me."

"This is where they left my lunch. I had to get up so I could get it, and since I can see the TV better from here, I figured I'd just sit down and eat here," Alexa said innocently.
That one wasn't even a lie. But I don't see what the problem is with me sitting down in a chair to eat lunch.

"It's in your best interest to get back in your bed." The nurse told her as she headed back out the door. "We haven't finalized your condition."

"I'll get back in bed once I finish my lunch, okay?"
What does she mean, they haven't finalized my condition? Are they actually stalling so they don't have to release me soon?

As if I'm really going to get back in that bed so soon...
Alexa looked out of the window again, and saw a tiny bird sitting right outside. Surprised by how bold it was to be so close to a human, she just stared for a minute before finally ripping off a piece of the bread and tossing it into the air. The bird immediately flew up to grab it, and hovered in the air, waiting for more.
You must be used to people feeding you, huh? Smart bird, staying where lonely people are happy to feed you.
She then tossed it another small piece, far more interested in her company than in the lukewarm sandwich. After a moment she put a larger piece down on the ledge where the bird had been a minute before, and noticed a feather it had left behind.
"You get to enjoy your freedom. That's what these feathers symbolize, a life that allows you to go wherever you want," Alexa said as she reached to pick up the feather.
Just as she closed her hand around it tightly, there was a knock on the door, and another nurse came in. Alexa quickly spoke again, starting to become very annoyed with the staff.
"I'm not done eating yet, and I could finish faster if I didn't have to repeat this to a new nurse every five minutes."
Just like that, the timid nurse left and closed the door just as quickly as she came.
Well, maybe now I'll have a little peace and quiet.
Alexa turned to feed her little companion more bread, only to see it had already moved on. At first she was sad, but then...something changed inside of her. She felt like if that bird could just come and go as it pleased, why couldn't she? The only thing stopping her from leaving that hospital, was actually herself.
Hey, I'm going to try being like you. Maybe we'll meet after I get out of this place! It's time for me to go.
She then took one look out the window, before opening her fist, only to see the feather was now missing...
