You're in no condition for a fight right now. You keep dragging Elise away as fast as you can, calling Dionysus to act as a shield. You prop Elise against a table and cast diarama again. She doesn't seem to be bleeding anymore, though she's still drowsy. The demon finishes plowing through the bookshelf, hurling chunks of wood and heavy books your way. You do your best to avoid them without exposing Elise, and Dionysus swats as much of the debris aside as it can.
You get ready for the demon to rush in, preparing to make your counterattack, but it never does. It keeps standing at a distance, well out of range of your borrowed skills. It reaches with its tentacles, flailing, slamming, grabbing at you, throwing anything the tentacles can wrap around. The barrage escalates from books to chairs to the tables. Dionysus can't deflect them all in time and you're forced to shield Elise yourself. The force of a chair hitting the side of your head knocks you over. You groggily force yourself up, concentrating on channeling another healing spell.
In the confusion you don't notice the hand feeling around in your pocket until Elise pulls her phone out. Dionysus flickers out of existence for a second. "Nodens. Summon Dionysus," Elise mutters weakly. The demon immediately returns. "Skillset 1." Elise seizes the torch in your hand. You don't resist as she slides it free. She starts to lumber forward, panting heavily, Dionysus hovering just ahead as a moving shield.
One of the crimson-glowing signs the demon was using as mood lighting rests a few feet away after being converted into ammunition. Elise takes a step out of her way to kick it sliding towards you. "Help... or run..." she spits out flatly. "I'm... gonna kill this bastard..." A tentacle slips past Dionysus and slaps her across the face. She retaliates by grabbing the thing before it can pull away, then stabbing the flaming torch into it. A horrific screeching noise fills the air as cracks appear across the demon's face.
Elise chokes out a cruel laugh. "Real good at beatin'... on the helpless... But a pushover in a real scrap... I know your type...!" Elise's laughing and the screeching both rise, echoing throughout the basement to create a horrible cacophony. Elise gives the tentacle one last yank before pushing past Dionysus and rushing forward.
You hear the sound of a door being thrown open. "Tyrant Moloch!" Gregory's distant voice calls out. An instant later, a blindingly bright flame appears in the distance. Help's finally here - or will be in a minute or two, at least. Elise doesn't even seem to notice, continuing to advance on the demon with bloodlust in her eyes. She said to fight or run, but... in this situation, you can't do much on the fighting front, except maybe helping to box the thing in or acting as a distraction...
Current HP Kira: 40% Elise:50% Dionysus: 30%
(A) Grab Elise and force her to fall back for now (B) Take shelter and wait (C) Make yourself a target as best you can (D) Rush the thing alongside Elise

Is it wrong that I am thinking about voting C. I mean we get Tenticals to focus on us and it gives a pissed off Elise a free shot with her demon and either Elise defeats him before he kills us or Gregory saves us before Tenticals kills us.
Final Answer C

Final Answer C That's pretty bold. But always rely on your comrades. So C it is.

If you can just give Elise an opening...! You start drawing as much attention to yourself as you can. You grab anything you can hold and start hurling it all at the demon. It directs a lone tentacle in your direction, almost lazily, still focused on Elise. You throw up your arm and let it coil around your wrist, then grab it with your other hand and start yanking. The demon staggers forward, then decides to give you the attention you deserve. Another pair of tentacles lash out at you, then another.
You manage to ensnare three of them. You hold them as tight as you can, but another rips your foot out from under you. The good news is that for a few brief seconds, you manage to draw the attention of all six tentacles. The bad news is that for a few brief seconds, you manage to draw the attention of all six tentacles. They start crushing and tearing and lashing and flinging you violently. You hear a loud popping noise from your shoulder. The sound is followed by a rush of pain. Fortunately, you quickly forget that pain as your face is slammed into the floor.
Elise yells as she rushes the last few yards. "Mighty Hit!" You feel the tentacles go slack. You vaguely make out a few bright flashes as everything goes back.
You're awoken by a terrible grinding pain in your shoulder. There's another sharp popping noise, the feel of healing magic flowing up your arm... The pain in your arm dulls considerably, but you become acutely aware of the various aches throughout your body.
"Good enough for now. I don't want to waste another moment in this dreary place. Drag us upstairs and we'll finish patchin' up. Yes, me too. Look at my leg, ya slack-jawed dope. We took a right brutal beatin'..."
You gradually recover your senses as Brute Ikusa hauls you out of the basement. The demon's nowhere to be seen. Dead, you assume. It looks like several shelves caught fire during the fight, then got extinguished by a huge blizzard. As you come out of the pitch-black basement to the first floor, you wince at the blinding light. Ikusa sits you down in a chair as you look around. Gregory and Kumiko look a bit tired, but unhurt. Elise is even worse off than you realized in the gloom. Thor slides her into a chair next to you and she flops down limply. Her clothes are stained with blood. Mementos of the battle cover her arms, legs, and neck, and more peak out through the tears in her shredded clothes. Recently-closed slashes criss-cross across her back and stomach. Bruises and welts have already begun to form everywhere else. A purple ring around her neck highlights a jagged, circular scar at her throat.
"Man. I didn't expect you'd need us to take that guy down and save you, boss," Gregory says with a smirk. He gestures over towards the lobby. You see the jerk who stole your phone buried neck-deep in toppled shelves in books. A sharp crack makes you whirl back around to the others. Gregory's stumbling back, hands covering his face and groaning in pain, while Elise calmly reclaims her seat.
"C'mere to me, Greg. 'fore you go gettin' any clever ideas, know I can still whup ya. And Kira, I'd belt ya one, too, if you weren't already beat all ta Hell. I'd say ya owe me more'n one l'il favor after all that, yeah?" She glances over to you with a smarmy smirk.
You nod in agreement.
"Oh, before I forget..." Kumiko reaches into her pocket and pulls out your phone. "Here you go. Um... I do have some bad news, though..." You flip open your phone and start checking it for damage before she can begin.
"Kira's back!" Bast says cheerfully. "Oh, man, you don't know how much we missed you! Well, me, at least. Seriously, that guy was no fun. It was like having a second Vorvadoss. Anyway it's good to see you back." No major damage, new messages - which reminds you, better make sure Elise knows about that flood she had - low battery, almost all your macca's gone...
"You're hurt," Vorvadoss observes. "I'll assign some healing magic so you can patch yourself up." At least a few new skills have been added to your cracked list, you notice. You flip open your demon list and your heart drops. The first two demons on your list are gone. You frantically scroll up and down the list but... well, it's not a long list, you didn't overlook them. Ikusa, Moloch, King Frost, Thor, Man in Black, Grey... and some random ball of static that looks more like an error than an entry on the list.
Lilim White and Lilim Black... What happened to the Lilim sisters...!? You're... surprised how angry you are about this. And your anger clearly shows because Kumiko takes a step back before explaining. "He... he tried to perform a fusion during the battle. Bast tried to stop him, said something about an error, too low of a level, but he did... something, I don't know, hacked it somehow, over-rode the... I'm not exactly great with computers, much less demon computers, but he forced the fusion and something went horribly wrong."
"More or less," Vorvadoss says. "We're working on fixing the damage, but it'll be some time before this demon's data's in working order." A progress bar appears under the jumbled name. 2%.
"We already broke his phone, by the way. He's not going anywhere," Gregory tells you.
You knock your chair over standing up. You march deliberately towards the thief. The dumb smile he flashes you as you approach doesn't help his case any. It just makes you want to kick his teeth in. "Hey, so, uh... No hard feelings, right? We're all just doing what we gotta do to survive. I mean, y'know, I coulda killed you when I stole your phone and I didn't, so... Y'know? You're going to let me go, right?"
(A) Let him go (B) Leave him there (C) Beat the crap out of him, then leave him there (D) You won't let him do this to someone else. Kill him.

Noooooooo not Dougie poo and Smexy chun.... I mean our Lillam Sisters.
Oh this bastard is sooo going to get a beat down.
C) We unleash such an unholy beat down on him. They thought what Mr. Tenticals did to us was bad. Ha the pain we will inflict on thief guy will make our wounds look like ouchies. We go to town on him and beat him to an inch within his sorry life. Then heal him just enough so he's not dead (we aren't savages) and leave him.

For once, this. Noone hurts my friends and gets away with it!As much as I hate this guy, C. Because The guilt of being a moiderer and bad rep it could give. What would sweet little Rita think of us? We must be the bugger person and spare him. But no without a beating.

You stomp over to the jackass. You line it up. You kick him in the mouth. More blood than you expected. You call out Thor. Thor grabs him. Digs him out. Hurls him across the room. Slams into the wall. Sounds like something broke. Maybe the wall, maybe him. You don't care. You're right behind him.
"Oi, hold a moment, Kira," Elise calls out. Dionysus floats over and pulls the guy's shirt off, then rushes it back to her. "All right, go 'head," she says, nonchalantly checking the size.
The guy's in a heap on the wall. He groans, spits out some blood. And broken teeth. You toss him over. Kick him a few times. Until he rolls over. Mount him. He's unconscious. It's disappointing. You feel magic start flowing through you, unbeckoned. Healing magic. He chokes back awake. You smile. Start punching. And keep punching. And keep punching.
An ache in your shoulder keeps getting worse until you can't ignore it any more. You give him one more punch, since that pain's his fault, too. Out of breath and panting, you stand back up.
"Tilt his head an' get the blood out so he don't drown 'fore I get a turn," Elise calls over. She's still resting in her chair, though she's changed her shirt. Gregory leans impassively against the reception desk. Kumiko looks over at you. She's trying to mask what she's feeling, but she seems uncomfortable.
You kneel down and treat them man like Elise said. Now that the initial rage has passed... No, you really don't feel too guilty. Not when you look at Elise, anyway. You're glad Rita didn't see that, though. Or Sara.
Ugh... You really wish you could go talk to Sara right now. You check the time on your phone. Just a few hours before she'll have a few days off... Assuming Jackson keeps his word, anyway. Well, right now you really want out of here. Out of this library.
You thank Elise, Gregory, and Kumiko again. Gregory nods. Kumiko gives an unenthusiastic "no problem."
Elise stops you. "Yer mighty useful in a scrap, gotta admit, and it means a lot that ya came back for me. So ya got a standin' invitation to join m' Cobras. And I'd even call us square. Like I said, ya owe me a helluva debt, and yer gonna pay up one way'r another. But I ain't gonna order ya join us. I got no illusions 'bout us bein' heroes. The unwillin' got not place with us."
You tell her you'll give it some thought. But right now you need some time to cool off. She nods and waves you off with a flick of her wrist. You head...
(A) Home, where Rita is (B) To find George uptown (C) Downtown to kill a few demons, blow off some steam (D) Out towards the farm to visit Daniel (E) To search for Waite. She was at the docks yesterday...

You head towards the docks. You hope you can find Waite skulking around somewhere. She snuck up on you here yesterday...
You don't have to look hard. You spot her almost immediately. She's sitting on the edge of the pier, stretched out in the same spot you were in yesterday, wearing a simple white sundress with a matching wide-brimmed hat and her pearl necklace. A pair of lacy sandals lie discarded at her side as she glides her toes along the water's surface. As you move down the pier you realize she's singing quietly to herself as she stares intently down into the river. The music is too faint for you to pick up any of the words, but it has a discordant, unpleasant melody; she drums her fingers against the pier arrhythmically. You gradually notice a pattern between the music and the figures she traces in the water, with different notes corresponding to different movements. She finishes as you draw near, holding the last note for several seconds before ending it abruptly. She falls silent, continuing to stare at the water. After a few seconds, she seems satisfied. You can sense a change in the atmosphere. She visibly relaxes, looking out across the water and kicking her legs absentmindedly. She almost seems cheerful.
You've got her cornered, you realize. And you have so many questions you want to ask her. But... that isn't why you're here. Your questions can wait. You needed to relax, and you've always found the river so soothing. Though you know you weren't just coming for the water, you were looking for Waite. She doesn't exactly strike you as the emotionally supportive kind. So, why... did you feel so drawn to find her...?
(A) Take a seat next to her (B) Ask to join her (C) Talk from where you are now (D) Leave her be
(1) Say nothing (2) Tell her everything that happened (3) Talk about something unrelated (4) Ask if she minds just sitting with you for a bit

You walk over to Waite and stop a bit behind her. She cocks her head a bit to let you know she's listening. You tell her you're not in the mood to chat, but you wanted to be around someone. You ask if she minds just sitting with you for a bit. She nods and goes back to looking out over the river. You slide off your shoes and join her.
You worry things may feel a bit awkward, but somehow the silence is quite comfortable. You close your eyes and spend a few minutes just enjoying the contrast between the warm breeze and the cool, flowing water. When you open them, you half-expect your silent partner to be gone. When you look over, she's still just sitting there silently, motionless other than her relaxed, rhythmic kicking. You realize this is both the closest and longest you've ever been around her - in reality, anyway.
You notice she looks a bit different than you remember from your dreams. Pale skin, small shoulders, a long, thin neck... Bright, plump lips, twisted into a perpetual smirk. Deep-set sea-green eyes. A sharp nose. Thin, sharply-sloped eyebrows. Perfectly-trimmed, black hair. If you had to guess her age, you'd say just a few years older than you, but younger than Elise - though you wouldn't be particularly surprised to learn she's some years older than she looks. You feel like she should look beautiful, if a bit intimidating, but... While you certainly wouldn't call her homely, the way all her features come together isn't entirely right, though you can't quite explain how. Her smirk widens just a bit and you realize you're staring. You quickly look away.
You watch the river instead. There's so much junk still flowing by, the water's so filthy, you can barely see the morning sun reflecting off the surface. It's a bit disappointing. After a few minutes, you notice something's a bit weird. With all that debris, you'd expect some to be bumping against the pier. You look down and notice a large area right at the edge of the dock has become crystal-clear. It certainly wasn't like that before. You watch and notice the passing flotsam seemingly bouncing off the edge of the clean water and flowing around it. "I noticed you came here yesterday." Waite's sudden words startled you. "I thought you might enjoy it a bit more if it were clean."
You almost ask if she did this. Or how it was possible. Then you remember watching her create some sort of... wormhole thing as if it were nothing and realize it's probably not worth asking. You thank her instead. She just smiles and nods. You return to staring silently together. Eventually you start to feel better. Calmer. You let out a contented sigh. Waite looks over at you curiously. "Can I ask you something, Kira?" she quietly asks after a few seconds. You look over and notice that for the rest time you've seen her, she isn't smiling. She looks a bit confused. You realize you're staring again and nod.
"Why did you come here?" she asks. "I mean, if you were just looking for someone to sit with... Well, I know I'm not the warmest shoulder to cry on. Or did you just want to come to your favorite spot, and I'm just intruding?" She taps a finger on the dock.
You tell her you were glad to find her here. You were hoping she'd be here, in fact.
"Oh? Hm..." The wicked smile's back. "Well, then. Let me ask a different question. Why me? Was it because your... girlfriend was busy? I mean, if she weren't, would you..." She trails off. "Let me simplify the question. Close your eyes. Now... Who do you want to see sitting here when you open them? And please don't lie to 'spare my feelings' or anything. I'd rather hear a cruel truth than a comforting lie."
Who do you want...? (Open answer)

You tell Waite that there's no one in the world you'd rather have waiting for you when you open your eyes.
"Hehe... Well, aren't we just the little ladykiller?" You open your eyes and find Waite hiding her mouth behind her hand. "I should warn you, though. I've taken down my fair share, as well."
You ask if that means she's interested. She turns back to the water. Her smile seems more... natural than usual. "Well, I'm certainly not disinterested. To be honest, I noticed you around town a few times before all the demons started appearing. I doubt you would have noticed me, but... Well, let's say I was disappointed to learn you were seeing someone."
Oh. You strain your memory, but can't remember seeing her outside of your dreams before a few days ago. Of course, you're not exactly known for paying attention to your surroundings...
Waite looks down and falls silent for a few seconds. "Words are one thing, but actions are another. I won't make a move so long as you and... Miss Lyon are a thing. But if anything happens between you two? Well." She flashes a mischievous smile. "The huntress can so easily become the hunted. Once she's not there to protect you, I may just gobble you up."
"Kira?" a voice calls from the shore. You jerk around to see who's shouting. Rita notices you and starts waving from a distance, jogging your way. A splashing sound from the water draws your attention, and you whirl back around. Waite's gone. Only a few ripples in the water give any indication she was ever there.
"Who was that?" Rita asks, a bit out of breath. You explain it was the woman who helped you last night. "Oh, the... fish?" Rita asks, leaning over to peer into the water. "Where did she...?"
You shrug and explain she seems a bit shy around strangers. Even worse than Rita herself.
"Oh... Um... OK. Well, she's certainly... mysterious?" Rita continues to stare into the water, now apparently noticing how only this spot isn't littered with debris. "Um... A-anyway, Kumiko told me what happened. Um... All of... what happened..."
You feel a sting of guilt. That jerk definitely had a beating coming, and you gave him what he deserved. Sure, you could've taken the moral high ground, but then he wouldn't have learned his lesson. And he probably turned around and stolen some other sap's phone. And took away their demons... You glance down at the incomplete demon on your phone. "Restoration... 4%" Not like that really matters. This new demon won't be the same.
"I made you this," Rita says, sliding the phone out of your hand. She spends a few seconds fiddling with it, then hands it back. A lacy cord with a fancy diamond pattern now hangs off the end. "You wrap that around your wrist and you can't lose it. Or thread it through a belt loop and use voice commands. I made matching ones for myself and Kumiko, see?"
They're very... Rita.
Rita takes a seat on a crate. Her smile slowly fades and she curls up a bit. "...So, is it... Is that demon really dead?"
You nod.
"Good. That's good."
You ask if she wants to sit and talk for a bit. She shakes her head. "No, I... I'm fine. I'll see you later."
You watch until she's out of sight, then turn back to the water to think in solitude for a few minutes. Did you... really mean all that stuff earlier, or did you just get caught up in the heat of the moment? You'll be able to meet up with Sara in a few hours, so you've got a while to decide... Eventually the lack of shade convinces you it's time to move on. It is currently noon. Choose 3 people to visit and 2 demons to summon. (A) Kumiko (B) Rita (C) George (D) Gregory (E) Daniel (F) Elise (G) Bart (H) Waite
