Wow, that was probably the quickest and easiest vote ever. C(Leah) is locked. I'll go ahead and roll the RNG tonight, but I won't have time to update until tomorrow afternoon, possibly tomorrow evening
Also, I'm finally over my writer's block. Yay.

(Continued)
"No," you say firmly, your resolve set. "I got us into this mess. No way in the Nine Hells am I leaving my friend behind."
Especially when he's only here because of you, to protect you. If something happened to Lazzy now... You couldn't live with yourself, with that guilt. It would kill you. No... It would destroy you. But you keep these thoughts to yourself. Instead, you glare at your companions, daring them to question you. They don't. Kara lowers her head in submission, nodding slightly and Lazzy only sighs. But you'd have to be blind to miss the adoration, even love in his eyes. Your breath catches in your throat. No one has ever looked at you like that, not Trail, not even... Does he truly love you then? But... How? You haven't even known each other that long...
A random thought pops unbidden into your head, a quote from long ago, from another life... From another Leah. "Love truly is mysterious, my child. Like a sparrow in a raging storm, it perches on your window when you least expect it, and it doesn't leave until you finally let it in. True, you'll get drenched. But eventually, your clothes will dry and the storm will pass. And then you will have found a partner for all of time."
It was grandma Ren who said that, when you were just a small sparrow yourself. You never really understood that until now. True, you'll get drenched. But... In the end, when you have the god of fire to comfort you, your clothes will dry pretty quickly. The tension melts from your shoulders, and you smile, meeting Lazzy's concerned gaze. You'd like to think, in that moment, something shone in your eyes as well.
"Step back, you big oaf," you say gently, your smile widening.
Lazzy arches a single bushy eyebrow at you, obviously trying to decide whether he should feel insulted by your odd endearment or not. "You know Leah... A normal endearment like baby or sweetheart is fine."
He still complies, and you giggle a bit. "Maybe so. But you still seem to answer well enough, and teasing you is so much fun. I can't help it."
The pounding intensifies yet again, and you would guess your welcoming party is just around the bend in the corridor. The lone corridor, with no diverging pathways... As soon as Lazzy is safely behind you, you raise your shining blade over your head and swing it in a large sweeping arc. The golden blade sings with power, vibrating in your hands, resonating with your will. The resulting blast of energy crashes into the ceiling several yards away, and you calmly bring your sword around for another strike.
The two blasts impact the ceiling in rapid succession, shaking the entire temple to it's very foundations, and the ceiling of solid granite comes crashing down in a tsunami of debris. And... So does the room above. Furniture and glass, chandeliers and rock, all come crashing down in a veritable symphony of bangs and clangs. Eventually, the wave of debris finally stops, and you smile sheepishly.
"I um... I think I may have overdid it a bit."
Lazzy shakes his head. "Leah, has anyone ever told you you're... Unique? In all my years, I have never met anyone quite like you."
You grin at that and lean up on your tiptoes, rewarding him with a quick kiss. "Why, thank you oaf."
He returns your grin, and leans down to kiss you back. You don't object.
"Well, I think it's safe to say we can continue at our leisure," Kara comments dryly. "It would take several decades for an entire army of miners to clear that avalanche."
You roll your eyes at Kara's sarcasm, as the ghost eyes you pointedly. "Well, it's a good thing your old man doesn't have an army of miners then, huh?"
Lazzy chuckles, and Kara actually groans. "Point taken. Now, if you're finished making out... Or would you like me to show you the Living Quarters?"
You laugh and dance around the uptight ghost, playfully wrapping your arms around her neck. "Oh stop being such a nanny, you spoilsport."
To your shock, Kara yelps and leaps away from you like you just tried to bite her. You're a bit hurt, until you realize the reason behind the reaction. Your eyes widen in shock. "Kara, you... You're solid!!!"
You can see the alarm in your friend's eyes, though you can't imagine why. This is wonderful news! "We need to hurry," Kara says quickly, and you notice an odd pitch in her voice. Is that... Fear? But of what? What can possibly scare someone who's already dead?
"We're close to the Heart of the Temple now. It shouldn't be that much farther. Come, we need to make haste."
You only nod and follow, still a bit taken aback. Just what in the world is going on here? Whatever it is, it isn't good, and your anxiety begins to return...
*Note: Kara's defenses have weakened. She is no longer invulnerable to physical attacks, but they will still do only half damage.*

Welcome to Belial's Mad House.
"Oh you have got to be kidding me," you say aloud, staring at the sign in disbelief.
Kara looks like she can't decide between fear, horror, or sheer amusement. Eventually she settles on horror. "I'm afraid not. My father has... A cruel sense of humor. We'll have to pass through here to reach the Temple's Inner Sanctum."
You look around at your new surroundings, more exasperated with this whole ordeal, than actually scared. Still... You don't like clowns. The twisting corridor Kara led you down eventually opened into a massive chamber, easily the size of a small city. Only it's not a city. It's a giant, evil theme park. What has to be the largest Amusement Park you've ever seen extends around you for miles, complete with countless food stalls, a myriad of different game booths, roller coasters of every size and shape, a giant ferris wheel and more attractions you can't even begin to name.
.... Nor would you want to. This place is on a whole different level of creepy. The park is alive with flashing lights and sounds, and every ride appears completely operable, as if the park staff were just taking a break. But... The entire place is abandoned. Completely and totally abandoned.
You involuntarily shiver. "I really dislike clowns," you complain, clutching at Lazzy's arm. "Almost as much as I hate ghosts. Er... No offense, Kara. You're a special case."
Kara smiles, not the least bit bothered by your comment. "It's fine, Leah. I too share your sentiments. Clowns are dumb, and not all ghosts are as adorable as myself."
Your roll your eyes. Yeah... You aren't touching that one with a nine foot pole. "Oh, my sweet," Lazzy says, grinning evilly. "Don't worry. I'll be happy to protect you from those nasty clowns."
You only now notice you're still clutching his arm. You shrug off his arm and move away, glaring at him. "Somehow I think I'll need more protection from you."
At his hurt look, you soften a bit. "Oh, don't give me that wounded look. You know I'm just teasing you Lazzy." His expression turns from hurt to confusion so quickly it's almost comical.
You suppress a giggle and turn to Kara. One way or another, he always manages to lighten your mood. "So miss spirit guide, where to from here? Do we ride the Ferris Wheel of Doom? Or take a stroll through Zeebo the Clown's Maze?"
Kara gives you a sheepish smile, almost a cautious smile, and you stare blankly at her. "If I said Zeebo the Clown, would you attack me?"
You simply stare at her for a moment, a very long moment, until you realize she's joking. And then you sigh. Good grief... Whatever happened to you being good at reading people? These two and their whirlwind emotions are going to be the death of you. "Honestly, I'm not sure," Kara says a second later.
"What you suggested might not be such a bad idea Leah," Lazzy says thoughtfully. "Riding the Ferris Wheel of Doom, I mean. It would give us a spectacular view of the area."
Hmm, Lazzy has a point... That might help matters a bit. "What do you think Kara?"
"Well, getting a better look of the place would help... But... Then again, it also might be a waste of time. Why don't we split up? You and Lazareth can go ride the ferris wheel, and I'll glide around the place and see what I can find. I can be pretty fast on my own, you know. And we'll cover a lot more ground this way. You won't have to worry about me."
You're suddenly suspicious this is just Kara's misguided attempt to give you and Lazzy some alone time... But then again, she has a point, and some down time with Lazzy would be... Nice. What to do...
A: Agree, and split up. Lazzy and Leah go ride the wheel, while Kara goes scouting. B: Agree, but Leah scouts instead. C: Split up, but send Lazzy to scout instead. D: Refuse. It's safer if everyone sticks together in this twisted place.

D. One more and we can make that awful Yu-Gi-Oh! show. Hey, I kinda liked 5Ds... I thought it was fun. Also, D obviously wins, so it's locked. And waah. I'm sad now. I wanted to write the heartwarming, adorable scene with Leah and Lazzy on the ferris wheel. !_! You guys assumed this was a horror flick in the making, but it really wasn't, and you missed out on a story from Leah's past and one of the most adorable scenes ever. I mean, sure, Kara would have been kidnapped and probably sacrificed with option A but still... Now you just have to fight a stupid Legacy Boss and you get no lovey dovey scene either! See what a horrible choice you made? Waaaaah! *cries self to sleep*

D. One more and we can make that awful Yu-Gi-Oh! show. Hey, I kinda liked 5Ds... I thought it was fun. I liked the 5Ds anime way more than the GX anime (which I never really cared for, and it has no relation to my username, btw). And I love turbo duels in the games, and love synchro summons. So you're not alone, Neo. And I'm late, but I was going to vote for A, even though I knew it wasn't a smart thing to do. Now I won't get to see that scene like I was hoping to...

Sorry, but I wanna keep everyone alive. Plus, I think Kara is adorable. Can she marry anyone even though she's kinda sorta a ghost/half-ghost?

Sorry, but I wanna keep everyone alive. Plus, I think Kara is adorable. Can she marry anyone even though she's kinda sorta a ghost/half-ghost? Kara wouldn't have died, you would have saved her in time. Actually, there is more of a chance of her dying now, because you have a Legacy Boss coming up, and Kara isn't immune to physical attacks until the end of the quest. And no, Kara can't marry anyone, unfortunately. She is, you know, a ghost. No 'half' about it. You'll find out why she's temporarily more solid soon enough.

Now I won't get to see that scene like I was hoping to... Yay! I'm not alone! Although the second season of GX was pretty cool. And, just for you, I'll write the scene anyway, and post it in a new topic, on the Discussion Board. I was actually thinking of doing something similar, anyway. I've been thinking of creating a topic where my readers can request 'missed scenes' from UB, scenes that they never got to see, and I can write them there. So you can look forward to the scene later today.

Aww man, a half human/ghost child would be awesome. Kinda like Youmu Konpaku. Hmm... You're right. That would be totally awesome. Okay, you've convinced me. I will allow Kara to have possible S ranks, assuming you make a certain choice at the end of the quest. Speaking of, I'm updating right now. Sorry about the delay.

"I don't think that's a very good idea," you say hesitantly. "I really don't think we should split up. This place gives me the creeps."
Kara shrugs, relenting fairly easily. Huh. It seems Kara isn't too eager to split up either. "Yeah... Me too. In hindsight, you're probably right. We should stick together."
You try to suppress a grin. Miss ghost doesn't seem so sure of herself now, does she... Lazzy suddenly yawns. "Well, now that we've got that settled... How about we get some rest? We're about as safe as we can get, considering where we are. And I don't think our welcoming party will be joining us anytime soon. I don't know about you Kara, but I'm exhausted." He turns to you, grinning. "Besides, I think I'm ready for some cuddle time with my Leah."
You roll your eyes. "Well, you're not going to get it that way mister." Lazzy pouts, and you turn to miss ghost. "What do you think Kara? Would it be safe for us to rest a bit?"
Kara bites her lip, clearly unsure. "Um... I guess. We shouldn't have to worry about my old man at least. He loves his games, and he hates being bored. This chase, this hunt he's sent us on, it's his precious entertainment. He won't do anything to harm his entertainment, not until the end of the game anyway. But I can't say the same about his guards. True, that blockade should keep them busy, but remember that metal ogre? He isn't exactly weak."
Kara certainly makes a good point... "So what's the verdict then? Can we at least rest for a hour or so?"
She smiles. "Oh, I think we should be able to manage that. Just limit it to a couple of hours, alright? We shouldn't risk anymore than that."
Well, a couple hours is better than nothing... "We'll make do. Thanks Kara. But um... Where should we sleep?"
Kara giggles a bit. "I think I know a place. Right this way, mistress."
