www.youtube.com/watch?v=BKVEL_So0oQWhere... Where am I? What... What is this place?Your ethereal form hovers over a flat, foreboding landscape shrouded in a dense purple fog. A cracked, broken tower looms in the distance, stretching impossibly high into the sky. It is clearly nighttime, yet the stars and the moon are gone; the entire sky is a pitch black void of nothingness. You watch in horror, helpless to do anything in this dreamstate, as the world is bombarded by falling stars and meteors, consuming the horizon in fire. Two men square off amidst this apocalyptic landscape, seemingly undeterred by the craters forming around them. You don't recognize either, and yet you somehow know them both. The men are of similar height and build, but the resemblance ends there. One is dressed in terrifying armor of the blackest night, a glowing greatsword strapped to his back and a brilliant silver longsword sheathed at his waist. His matching hair is long and unbound, and his hard, severe eyes resemble miniature Suns; they hold an unspoken ageless wisdom, but they burn so brightly it blinds anyone who dares to look directly at them. The other man is almost his exact antithesis. He is crowned in radiant white armor, dotted with royal blue embroidery, and a worn brown hooded cloak that billows in the harsh wind. His hair is as white as snow, and his eyes are a clear, icy blue, like the waters of the northern sea. He carries no obvious weapon, but a giant katana is lodged in the hard ground, merely arms length away from him. The two men share a brief conversation- though from this distance you can't hear what they're saying- and then they go to war. You watch in stunned disbelief as these two men, who obviously know each other, try their best to tear each other limb from limb. Light and darkness clash in a violent display of strength and speed, and the shockwaves from their clash send your whisp-like form spiraling into the winds. Your rational mind reassures you this is just a dream, but your heart tells you it is something so much more. Somehow, someway, you are witnessing a crucial turning point in history. Something you were never meant to see. Light and Darkness appear evenly matched at first. Their mighty blades meet in devastating conflict, and the very ground gives way beneath them. In a move that is puzzling to you, Darkness suddenly drops one hand from His greatsword, intentionally giving ground. He is forced back dozens of yards by Light in that one instant, but in the process, Darkness draws His other sword and slices clean through Light's only weapon. Light leaps backwards, as gracefully as a leopard despite His massive size, and Darkness charges. However, Darkness only finds air, as Light flickers and fades like an afterimage. Light reappears behind Him, and takes up the two halves of His blade, turning them into two different swords, allowing Him to go blow for blow with Darkness once more. Neither combatant gives an inch, and they don't seem to be tiring in the slightest. In that moment, a thought strikes you, and you realize something. Light cannot defeat Darkness, just as Darkness cannot defeat Light. The two cannot exist without each other. Where there is one, there must always be the other. This is the balance that has existed since time immemorial. It is the balance of nature, of the universe, of... Of everything. "But is it truly necessary?"You snap around at the sound of the voice behind you, a voice that is instantly recognizable, and your eyes widen. Floating above the ground only a few feet away from you is a figure torn straight from the pages of your past. He is the one name you remember, besides yours, and the link to your memories. You know who he is immediately, and all your memories come flooding back to you in an instant. The memories of the time you spent together, as children and as adults, and all the love you once held for him, and still do. Your parentage, who you are, what you are, and most of all, your mission... It all slams into you like one big tidal wave of images and places and names and knowledge. If you weren't in this ephemeral form, if you weren't in this dream that isn't a dream, you have a scary feeling the shock of it would have driven you insane. Or worse, outright kill you. "I... I remember everything... E-Ethan... Is that really you?"The apparition merely smiles. "... In a sense. I am your subconscious, given form. The battle raging now... It has happened before. In every age, Light and Darkness clash in an eternal struggle. Like the serpent trying to devour the horizon, they try to extinguish each other, to absorb each other. Light and Darkness choose different champions every time, and the battle always has a different stage, but the struggle at its core is always the same. Wars on religion... Wars on terror... Wars fought for freedom... Wars fought for survival... Wars fought for greed and riches... No matter the world, regardless of the players or the excuse... Every war is fought for the same purpose. The Hero's Journey, Good and Evil, call it what you will. In the end, everything leads back to that one idea, that one concept: Balance. You cannot survive in a desert without shade, and you cannot live in a world of eternal cold and darkness. People suffer and die, love and cherish, dream and want all because of this balance. But what if this balance is unnecessary? What if it is merely an outdated concept, that has outlived its usefulness? What if this balance was shattered?"Your subconscious points behind you, and you turn, your eyes widening once more at the sight before you. Broken weapons and scraps of armor are scattered around the landscape, and the battle between Light and Darkness has finally reached its climax. Wounded and exhausted, bleeding shadows and golden blood, Darkness thrusts the blade of His massive greatsword into the stomach of the man leaning against Him. He quickly pulls his sword away, and Light stumbles backwards. Darkness throws his sword down and catches Light in His arms, falling to His knees. Tears rain down the man's face as he sobs openly, and Light begins to fade in His arms. Then, something extraordinary happens. Desperate to save the very man He had been trying to kill but moments before, Darkness gives Him a vial of frothing golden liquid. Light smiles as His wounds heal and He whispers something into Darkness's ear, before vanishing into tiny particles of pure white light. The light is then absorbed into the darkness, and half of His armor changes to a brilliant white. Darkness roars up at the heavens, and a giant pillar of light explodes into the sky. The very fabric of the world seems to shatter like glass, and a million images flash through your mind. You see a man who seems to be a different, happier version of Darkness standing on a palace balcony, overlooking a bustling city below. He holds an infant in his arms, and two women stand beside him. Above him, a thousand ghosts linger in the night sky. They bow silently to him and vanish into the great beyond. The scene shifts, and you see a silver haired woman in a Sage's robes teaching a class on history to a group of rambunctious students. Outside, in the same city, a young woman with jet black hair is aiding in the construction of a large building. Countless people are working on the project, all of whom are smiling. A giant in red wipes the sweat off his brow, looking down from the only partially finished roof and smiling at the young woman. She smiles back. The scene changes again, this time shifting to a different city, a city dotted with glistening silver skyscrapers, towering high into the sky. A beautiful, elderly woman with long flowing golden hair strolls down the street, arm in arm with a bronze skinned man with brilliant flaming red hair. They are greeted by cheers and smiles, and waves and bows from everyone they pass. The pair reach the massive silver gates of the city, only to find an entourage of guards and familiar faces waiting for them. The group parts for them, allowing them to pass, and with only a few nods, the King and Queen pass through the gates, and the world passes into the future. More images and scenes flow through your mind at a calm, steady pace. A contented, happy smile crosses your face as you find yourself relaxing in a beautiful meadow, brimming with every type of flower. You're much older now, and your hands are more calloused. Your husband lays next to you, his hand in yours, while you watch your two young children chasing each other around the meadow. Your eyes wander to the silver tower in the distance, and the massive World Tree behind it. Your smile widens. The sky is littered with dragons. The scene shifts one last time, and you find yourself back where you were before, but now, no trace of the epic clash between Light and Darkness remains. The once barren landscape has transformed into an endless field of green, and the sky above has become a sunny cerulean. An incorporeal hand lights on your shoulder, and you smile, wordlessly placing your hand over his. He leans close and whispers something in your ear, and then you wake.

(Continued)
You wake to a warm swath of sunlight peeking through the hollow, and something furry tickling your nose. You blink a few times, slightly disoriented, and before you can stop yourself, you sneeze. The red Fox-Squirrel curled up on your chest chirps angrily at you in response, bouncing to its feet and hopping off your chest, smacking you in the face with its tail in the process. You stare at the furry little thing in disbelief for a few moments, and then you soften.
Aww... It's adorable! It must have wandered in here while I slept.
"Hey little guy. Sorry I woke you," you quickly apologize. The squirrel stares back at you, with its giant brown eyes, before literally turning tail and dashing out of the hollow, back into the forest.
You kick out the pile of sticks and twigs, freeing the opening, and crawl after it. The fierce and sudden sunlight momentarily blinds you. You shield your eyes with your forearm as you rise to your feet, stretching. Oooh... My poor aching muscles. I feel like I took a tumble off Mount Stormfrost.
Which, now that you think about it... Isn't really that far from the truth. You look around as your vision returns, and you almost have to pinch yourself. You are awake... Right? You aren't sure what's more shocking... The forest being back to normal, or the various forest creatures spread out before you, patiently waiting for you.
Not a single trace of that foreboding forest from the night before remains. As far as you can tell, the Eternal Forest is exactly the same as it was when you first entered. Well, minus the missing sisters... You flinch at the reminder. Sonia, Eren... Please be safe. I'll be there soon... Wherever you are.
You turn your attention to the second surprise of the morning- third if you count your new squirrelly friend- and pinch yourself one more time, just for good measure. Yeah... You're definitely awake. You count a mama Deer with two younglings, an assorted mix of colorful birds, a full grown Fox, a couple normal Squirrels, and even a Bobcat. You kneel in front of the animals, smiling. Animals have always adored you... But this is a bit ridiculous.
The mama Deer fearlessly walks up to you and gently nuzzles your forehead. She then turns and bounds away, stopping briefly to turn back and look at you. "You... Want me to follow you?" You ask the Deer, not in the least bit surprised you're talking to a deer. After all, you've a done a lot weirder things in your life.
She appears to nod, and bounds away again. You quickly brush the dirt and twigs off your armor, grab your pack and spear, and take off after her. You have no trouble keeping up with her, as your friendly guide makes sure not to lose you, and soon your thoughts begin to wander.
I... I remember everything now. My childhood, my family, all those centuries spent as... As... As Ephidel's dog. I remember being sent to kill the Dragon Emperor, running into Ethan, my battle with Yormungand's Lieutenant, and my battle with the Divine Dragon. I even remember dying. I... I was defeated by Lady Tiamat, but after that... It's all one big blank. The next thing I remember is waking up in bed, in Naandia. What... What happened to me?
Your guide suddenly stops, and you almost run right into her. You stop and look around, confused. You don't see anything out of the ordinary... Just trees, trees, and more trees. The Deer subtly looks up, and you follow her gaze, your eyes widening. Sitting high above your head, nestled in between the giant branches of two massive trees is a treehouse that looks like something out of some twisted fairytale. Part of the treehouse resembles a dark, gothic castle, while another part looks like the home of a mad sorcerer, complete with smoking, upsidedown towers hanging down like icicles. And the third part of the dwelling is even weirder. It looks like a cross between a nobleman's manor home and a gingerbread house, complete with vanilla frosting and strawberry sprinkles.
"Who the heck lives here?" You ask the Deer.
Unfortunately, said Deer is nowhere to be found. Right... I should have expected that. Well, at least I can fly again....
Although, honestly, that probably isn't such a good idea. It's kinda cramped for space here. Well, that only leaves one option...
You heave a heavy sigh, rub your hands together, and begin to climb.

Your hands are raw and aching by the time you reach the treehouse, but that's a small price to pay for answers. If it means finding Sonia and Eren sooner, then you don't care what you have to do. Besides... You've been through a lot worse than this before. Still... How are you supposed to get in? You don't see any visible entrances, or even a ladder. There isn't even a board or foundation beneath the house... It just seems to... Hang there, suspended between the two trees, without anything to hold it. Again, it's not the craziest sight you've ever seen... But it comes pretty darn close. You carefully edge yourself out onto a nearby branch, just below the house, and lean back against the tree to rest. Well... I guess there's nothing else for it. All I can do now is wait.---------- "Dammit... What the hell is this place?!" And better yet, why are we here... I can't even remember what happened, or how we got here...Sonia curses again, and kicks the presumably steel bars of her tiny little cell. However, she immediately wishes she hadn't, and yelps in pain. A jolt of pain shoots up her leg, causing her to stumble. She quickly catches herself, leaning against the nearby wall for support. She bites her lip. That should NOT have hurt so much... What in Ancestors' name are those damn things made of?!"S-sis...? Are you okay?" Sonia turns at her sister's terrified whisper, quickly limping back to her side, where she lay in the single bed that was even tinier than their cell. "I'm fine Ren, don't worry. I'm here, and I'm not going anywhere." Tears well up in her kid sister's eyes at Sonia's use of her childhood nickname. Her chest tightens, and she grits her teeth. No one makes my little sister cry and lives... No one."Promise? Promise you won't leave me alone, sis. It's so dark... I can't even see your face. Why is it so dark?" Sonia chokes back a sob, and softly shushes her, placing a motherly kiss on Eren's forehead, right above the bandage. "I'm not going anywhere, my little Ren. I promise. And it's only dark because you're so tired. Go back to sleep, sweetie." Eren gives a hesitant nod. "O-okay... But only if you stay with me." Sonia smiles and climbs in beside her, quickly wiping her eyes. "Alright, my little bluebird. Would you like me to tell you a story?" Another nod. "Tell me the one grandpa used to tell us... The one about the boy who stole the Moon." Sonia agrees and begins the story, ignoring the shadows darting back and forth, just beyond their cell. Please Nagi... Please hurry...------- www.youtube.com/watch?v=2JVwo3D72cc A deceptive choice, A seductive voice. Can you uncode, Given time, The meaning of life, Lost to the Nine? "Well now, what do we have here? A little bird who lost her way? Oh my. And a lovely little bird too."
Your eyes snap open, and you stare blankly at the odd little man perched on the branch, just a couple feet away from you. I must have dozed off without noticing... Not surprising, considering how exhausted I was. I'm just lucky I didn't wake up with my face in the dirt and my ass in the air.
You study the man who woke you. He appears more like a strange owl than a man; his frame is small, barely more than five feet tall and scrawny, covered by a tattered forest green cloak. He carries a twisted walking staff of brown oak in one hand, and an old fashioned paper lantern in the other, despite it being clear and sunny out. Beneath his cloak, you notice a plain white tunic and baggy brown leggings, though his feet are bare. Spiky strips of messy brown hair stick out of an intricately carved owl mask, dotted with white and brown feathers. But it wasn't just the mask that made him seem birdlike... He was hunched over slightly, like a bird of prey constantly on the lookout, and his stormy gray eyes were sharp and clear. His voice sounded like that of an old man, and his hands were clearly wrinkled, but you have no doubt he could move with startling speed if he wanted to.
Your eyes narrow slightly. His ears are slightly pointed too... If you didn't know any better, you might call him a Manakete. But there's something different about him... Something you can't quite place. He seems... Familiar, somehow.
"Dragon, actually. And no, I'm not lost. A deer led me here. Thank you for the compliment, however."
The man chuckles. "Ah, my mistake. You better come in then. We wouldn't want you falling now."
He raises his walking stick, and the peak of an upsidedown tower opens like a blooming flower. A dark purple staircase unfolds itself from the tower, rolling down to the branch where you stand, like a very noisy red carpet. Something about the way he said we really bothers you... But you push the thought aside, at least for now, and follow him up the stairs. You've come too far to turn back now. And besides, you're the Unknown Element, daughter of Father Cosmos and Mother Fire, and the Eldest Dragon in the world. What could this little old man possibly do to you?
------
The inside of the treehouse, if you can even call it that, is even more bizarre than the outside. Although honestly, for the first few minutes you suffer from vertigo and dizziness so badly that you couldn't pay attention to your surroundings if you tried. And you have a sneaking feeling the owl's house is set up that way on purpose, so potential enemies wind up disoriented and unsure of the way out. Too bad for him I don't need a door.
He seems nice enough, at least. He seems too excited giving you the grand tour to worry about anything else. The upsidedown towers are by far the worst part for you. They are literally as their name suggests, complete with spiral staircases leading upwards and chandeliers sticking out of the ground. The only light in the bizarre dwelling comes from the outside, so your host leads the way with his now-lit lantern- A lantern he literally lit with his breath. Once you climb out of the fantasy book sorcerer towers and reach the 'ground' floor, the weirdness starts to mellow out... Somewhat. At least everything is right-side up now.
The owl's house is a artist's wet dream of colors, though he does seem to have a fascination with the color purple. He leads you through a medieval foyer, complete with sentient suits of armor that salute as he passes, floating candles dancing in what appears to be a formal ball, and foul mouthed teenage doors that all seem to think you're "Too hot for words Brah."
By the time you reach the singing alchemy laboratory, where a giant golden rooster- Yes, a male rooster- is popping out what appears to be Philosopher Stones, you're ready to do one of two things; scream, or punch the next door in the face. Perhaps both. And even worse, the house seems to go on forever. By all appearances, it has to be at least a hundred times larger than the outside.
Finally, as your over enthusiastic guide explains to you the mating habits of asexual golden roosters, something you really didn't want to know, you nearly blow the coop. "Please, enough!!!"
He stops mid sentence and stares at you curiously, smiling slightly. Something about his smile is... Disturbing. "Thank you for the tour," you breathe in exasperation, bowing your head in gratitude. "But my friends are missing, and I need help finding them. They may be in danger. Can you help me?"
In fact... I know they're in danger. Now that I have my memories back, I know exactly who's behind all this. Ephidel, that treacherous snake...
He gives a light chuckle, and thankfully, he doesn't appear upset by your little... Outburst. "My, my. Such a temper. Young ones these days... They never have any patience. Very well, miss dragon. I will see what I can do. After all, John would not have led you here unless you were truly in need."
You blink. "Er... John?"
The man's twisted grin widens. "The deer who guided you here. Her name is John."
Oh... Of course. You... You don't even want to know... "I-I see... Well, I guess I should thank John then."
"There's no need," he says quickly, dismissing the idea with a wave of his stick. "John is a deer, after all. Now, come this way please. I have a pot of elderberry tea brewing. We can discuss your... Friends over lunch."
You follow after him in silence, your mind still trying to digest all of the weirdness, and as you do, a pit of dread slowly begins to form in your stomach. I have this terrible feeling I made a grave mistake coming here... What have I gotten myself into?
"Is Miss Dragon fine?" He asks suddenly, shattering the silence.
You blink again. "Pardon?"
"Your name, child. What would be appropriate for me to call you?"
"Nagi... My name is Nagi."
He gives another light laugh, but this time it seems deeper... Stronger. He turns to you while still walking, and for a horrifying moment, his head almost seems to turn a full 360 degrees, just like an owl. "It's a pleasure to meet you, Nagi. I am the Yesterday Man. But you may just call me Yesterday."

The Yesterday Man, or Yesterday as he calls himself, sits across from you at the dining table, casually sipping his tea. The tea is actually quite good, and very soothing. If this were a normal house, with normal people, you'd probably feel very comfortable right now. But as things stand, you're even more on edge than you were before. Yesterday doesn't seem to be too eager to breach the subject at hand, and since you don't want to seem ungrateful or impatient, you don't rush him. And if that weren't enough, you've begun to... Notice certain things, the more time you spend around him. Like how you can't sense anything about him, not even a hint, when usually you can see someone's entire backstory with your powers. And he obviously knows who you really are, yet he continues to pretend he doesn't. Why? Just who is he? What game is he playing?
"Would you care for some more tea?" Yesterday asks as he sets his cup down, which is promptly refilled by a floating teapot hovering beside the table.
Well, as long as he's playing host... It would likely be unwise to refuse his generosity. "Please," you answer, forcing a calm smile. While your own cup is refilled, you finish the last of your sandwhich and soup. "Both the meal and tea are excellent, Yesterday." That much at least is true. You haven't had a proper meal since the day before, and honestly, you could go for a dozen more sandwiches. Easily.
Almost on cue, a dozen more of the same sandwich you just finished materializes on your plate, stacked high like one of Midgard's famous silver towers. He chuckles at your wide eyed look.
"Don't look so surprised, my dear. Marth reacts to your thoughts. Or, your thoughts of food rather. There's no need to be hesitant. Eat as much as you like. You'll need your strength if you wish to venture into Nil."
You aren't sure what surprises you more. Magic sandwiches, the fact he named his table after a forgotten hero from a million freaking years ago, or the fact he already knows where you need to go. Then again, why should any of this surprise you? Why does anything surprise you anymore? It really shouldn't at this point.
"Nil? What in the world is that?" You ask, happily obliterating another sandwich.
Again, he chuckles. "Why, nothing. Nothing in this world. Nil is what lies on the other side of the looking glass; it is the bottom to our top, the opposite to all things normal. It is a colourless world teetering on the edge of the Void. You saw a glimpse of it last night. You see my dear, this forest is old. Very, very old. It has existed, and endured, since the First Age. Always wandering, always drifting through the sea... This forest was here long before the island was. Seems impossible, no?"
Yesterday finishes his tea once more, and finishes the last of his soup before continuing. "Ah, that feels much better... Now, back to your question. When night falls, the Eternal Forest- or the Sacred Grove whichever you prefer to call it- bridges the gap between the worlds. The veil between the dimensions weakens when the primal magic here is at its strongest. What you saw was, in truth, a mishmash canvas of all the Nine Realms. All the worlds in every realm in the Multiverse was visible to you. For a few moments, you saw the Quilt, the great melting pot of the Cosmos; what was, what is, and what will be, in every aspect across Spacetime. A lesser being would have been driven insane, and a normal human would have been outright killed; their mind fried to a crisp. Kaput. Boom. Just like that. However, you are no ordinary woman, are you? But even so, without your memories and identity, your mind was not able to process what you really saw. So, to save you, your mind turned the sight into an endless forest."
You pale, too stunned to speak for a moment. Then that dream... What if it wasn't a dream? What if he wasn't really my subconscious? If I really experienced all of Spacetime at once, then what if what I saw was some twisted combination of the past and future?
"Your friends were taken to Nil by a powerful being," Yesterday continues. "Most likely to lure you there, where you will be out of your element, disoriented, and your powers won't be as effective. And if your powers were released in Nil, a world so close to the Void, the Void would suck them in like a black hole consumes light, saving this world from the destruction that would ensue if your unrestrained powers were released back into the Aether. Do you understand now? Whomever is behind this, my dear, clearly means to kill you. That is the only explanation. If you wish to stand a chance, you must first free your mind. In order to travel to a world such as Nil, let alone fight, and live, you must do away with all that is familiar. If you are surprised by such relatively small things like my home, then you will not last a day in Nil."
Yesterday wordlessly excuses himself from the table, and rises into the air. He then snaps his fingers, and to your shock, the room begins to flood with water. Within moments, you're completely submerged underwater. You instinctively gasp for air, only to find you can still breathe normally. You touch your clothes, and find them completely dry.
"You must break free of all preconceived ideas," Yesterday says, his voice unaffected by the water. "Only then will you be able to survive in Nil long enough to find your friends and return." He snaps his fingers again, and the water vanishes.
You nod, and consume another turkey sandwich. At least the food isn't soggy. "What would you have me do?"
"The impossible," Yesterday replies, grinning slightly. "Don't worry. It's not as difficult as it sounds."

"That's it?" You ask skeptically, staring out at the smoking mountain in the distance through the open, but lopsided window. "All I have to do is sneak into this beast's lair, and steal one of it's treasures?" Your eyes abruptly narrow. Is this guy being serious? Or is he playing with you? If it's the latter, he's going to find out quickly just how little patience you have right now. "Cut the nonsense, Yesterday. If I had my way, I'd be charging in to rescue my friends right now, now that I know where they're being held. The only reason I'm not is because I'm listening to your advice. But if those kids get hurt because I'm wasting time on your little mission, then so help me Origin I'll-"
Yesterday quickly throws his hands up in a gesture that was probably meant to signify surrender, but only ended up making him look like some sort of spineless pasta noodle attempting to dance. You would have laughed it was so ridiculous, if you were in a laughing mood... Which you weren't. At all. "I promise! It's not a waste of time! Don't eat me! Owls don't taste very good without Ketchup, and I haven't been to the store in several decades!"
You roll your eyes at his misplaced attempt at humor- Or was it? You can't really tell with him, and you've never had roast Owl before, so for all you know, he could be serious- and turn back to the window. "Fine. I'll believe you... For now. But if I find out you're lying, I'll buy the Ketchup myself. What else can you tell me about this little errand? Is there a particular treasure I'm looking for? Why can't I just go flying in flames a-blazing?"
Yesterday smirks. "Well, for one my dear, that is a volcano. You have heard of those, yes? Rather hard to fly into one, especially for a dragon of your erm... Magnitude. On the other hand, it's also quite easy to fly into a volcano when you're that big."
He chuckles as if he made a clever joke, and you pin him with a death-glare that a Gorgon would envy. Yesterday sobers so quickly it's almost comical. "Right. No more bad puns. Let's see... Where do I begin? Turn your senses towards the volcano and see what you can see, my dear."
You do as you're told, albeit somewhat reluctantly, and find yourself having difficulty detecting anything. You notice the presence of several lesser Ancestors, or Epic Monsters as you know them, but beyond that, it's all one big blank. You end up having to close your eyes and truly concentrate before you can sense anything that far away. And when you do, what you find- Or the lack thereof- startles you.
"I can't sense... Anything. Not a single thing of that size in the entire mountain. How is that possible? Didn't you say this was a large Ancestor?"
Are you even thinking of the same beast? You just assumed he meant the monster you heard roaring on your first day in Naandia. But if that's so, then you should be able to easily sense a creature of that size... Unless...
"Precisely," Yesterday confirms as if reading your thoughts, his smirk widening. "Your powers haven't fully returned to you yet, and that thing is powerful and intelligent enough to remain undetected by you in your current state. And even if you can fly without the aid of a Dragonstone with your current powers- Which I highly doubt by the way- the creature in question is a primal being of fire; It IS fire. The majority of your current attacks as a dragon would be utterly ineffective. But if you were to sneak by it while it was sleeping, well... Let's just say the creature tends to hoard items that could potentially pose a threat to it. And who knows? Maybe you'll find a spare Dragonstone, or even an artifact to help you cross dimensions safely... Wink, Wink."
Did he actually just say wink... Aloud?
You suddenly find yourself sighing. Dealing with this man... Owl-thing, is proving more exhausting by the minute. "I'm still not getting the whole 'impossible' part, Yesterday."
Is this entire test of his really just to retrieve that artifact? If so, why not just come out and say that? Good stars above, it's like dealing with old man Janus, all over again. You shiver at the thought. Now THAT memory is one I definitely could have lived without.
Yesterday obnoxiously wags his finger at you. "Tsk, tsk little bird. If I told you everything right from the start, it really wouldn't be impossible, now would it? And that would ruin all the fun. Not to mention the whole test thing. So, off you go! No lollygagging now! No time to waste! Father time waits for the Owl, not the Dragon!"
You open your mouth to say something very snarky, but suddenly think better of it. He IS helping you, after all. Even if he's being very difficult and cryptic about it. "Alright, I'll be off then. Thank you, Yesterday. I'll truly be in your debt if this works."
He dramatically clasps his heart in response. "Oh, my poor sweet wittle heart! Your soft words bring me tides of joy, milady!..... And about your debt, don't worry about it. Just don't bring me any Ketchup and we'll be all fine and dandy. Good? Good."
You giggle a bit, and shake your head. Well, at least he's a character, that's for sure. Although, honestly, you've never had a problem with finding those. You seem to attract weirdoes like a magnet. You suddenly remember the old nickname Ethan used to call you, and you smile warmly at the thought.
The Yesterday Man happily sees you off, talking your ear off all the way to the door. He remains perched on the tree branch as you climb down, waving his stick at you like a maniac, wishing you good luck at the top of his lungs. Your boots light upon the soft ground, and you walk only a few feet before turning around to say goodbye one more time. However, the words never leave your throat. As you turn to look at the branch where he stood mere moments before, you find both him and his upside-down castle gone, having vanished into thin air like they never existed at all.
Strangely, you aren't surprised. And as that familiar sensation washes over you again, you smile in realization. "You crazy old fool...How I didn't manage to recognize you before is beyond me. But still... It was nice to see you again... Father."

An unknown location, within the World of Nil...
Sonia tenderly brushes a bang away from her sleeping sister's face, and places a motherly kiss on her forehead. The bandage was still in place, but with a bit of luck, the wound would be healed soon and it could come off. But first, Sonia needed to find a way out of this accursed place. The only question was, how? No guards came to check on them, and the shadows hadn't been back since that first day.
She bites her lip in frustration, drawing a drop of blood. What am I supposed to do? What can I do? Without my staff, I can't heal Eren, and without my tomes, I can't even attempt to escape... Or can I?
Sonia's thoughts are suddenly interrupted by a large platter of food being slid into her cell. Was it lunch time already? Or dinner time? She couldn't be sure. She had long since lost any sense of time. How long had they been imprisoned here now? Days? Weeks?... Months?
Still, Sonia gladly accepted the food, and like always, she gave her thanks to the one being who seemed to genuinely care. He was just a dark shadow in even darker darkness, and she didn't even know if he WAS a he, but she could sense his presence just beyond the cell, waiting to make sure they ate. It was always he who brought their food, as well as their few other comforts, like extra blankets and pillows, and the medicine for Eren. He may not care enough to help them escape, but he and Eren were the only things that had kept Sonia sane during her time there. She fancied him 'a mysterious benefactor', and affectionately referred to him as 'her shadow'. Sometimes, she even fantasized about what he looked like. It was childish, true, but it helped far more than she could ever express. And so, whenever he brought food, she thanked him. And when they were alone, and Eren was asleep, she talked to him. She told him of her home and her dreams, of her adventures as a kid, and more. He never said anything in return, but her shadow was a good listener.
However, this time, things were different. Sonia sensed it almost immediately. Her shadow seemed... Restless. Anxious even. And it terrified her.
"Shadow? Is everything all right? You seem a bit on edge." She tried her best to keep her voice calm and level, but her heart was pounding and her mind was racing. What's going on? Are they going to execute us now? Has something happened? I thought we were only bait for Nagi. That's the most logical conclusion, right? Did she come then? Is she already here? What if they're tired of waiting? Are they going to kill us anyway? Eren... I need to get Eren out of here... I... I need...
Sonia naturally hadn't expected an answer, so when she got one, he had to repeat the question a few times before she actually heard him. And when she did hear him, she was far too stunned to reply.
"How is your sister's wound?"
His voice was deep and smooth, but cold and emotionless, like Night itself was speaking. It sent shivers down her spine. Cold, hard terror welled up inside her. Before, when he was just a shadow, she derived comfort from his presence because he was just that; a shadow. He couldn't harm her or Eren. He didn't really exist. Sometime, she believed he was a figment of her imagination, and the food simply materialized into the cell. Sometimes, she even believed she had already gone insane. But now, he was real. He had a voice, which meant he had a form. And that meant he could harm her, or even worse, Eren. Quicker than she thought possible, the comfort of her shadow was replaced by a pit of dread so profound it made her chest tighten.
Sonia gulps back her fear. "Better. She won't be permanently blind thanks to the medicine you gave her, but it will still take some time for her sight to return to normal." She gulps again, calling upon any source of courage she can find, and asks the one question she was dreading the most. "Why are you here?"
There was a slight pause before he answered. "If I told you there was a way for you to escape, would you believe me?"
Sonia couldn't have been more shocked had he walked right into her cell and slapped her. Had she more time to think, she might have planned her answer better. But as she was, exhausted, starving, and stunned, she settled for the truth. "I... Don't know. I would want to believe you but..."
That seems to make him relax a bit. "Fair enough. The... People who own this castle are having a ball tonight, to celebrate the arrival of my master. Tonight will be your only chance to escape. I can show you the way to the courtyard, but no farther. However, I will first need something from you and your sister."
A mixture of hope, confusion, and dread clashes in her chest, but she forces it down. Somehow, she knew he was telling the truth: tonight would be their only chance at escape. Sonia has a sinking feeling his 'master' is not someone she wants to meet. ".... All right. I will trust you. What do you need?"
The cell gate suddenly swings open. "Something extremely important to both of you. It's the only way to fool a Necromancer. Forgive me... I promise it will be painless."

(POV Nagi)
As it turns out, the old fool was right. You can't fly yet, and as such, you're stuck on a cross country sprint to the other side of the island. Well, maybe not that far... But close enough. Still, the air is cool, and you've never been more determined in your life. Or at least, not in a very long time. You rush through the forest like a blazing white blur, leaping over fallen logs and clearing entire swaths of dense foliage with a single swipe from your hand. The animals part well in advance, clearing the path for you, and bowing their heads in respect in the process.
From time to time, you leap up into a tree to judge the remaining distance between you and the volcano, and to your immense relief, you find the gap steadily closing. It shouldn't be much longer now... I'm almost there. Sonia, Eren, hold on just a bit longer...
You also noticed something else on your most recent trip to the canopy; a particularly large Godtiger with a scar over its left eye roaming the area near the base of the volcano. He was a beautiful creature, but he appeared very restless. From this distance, you can't tell if he's hunting something or guarding a nest. Hmm... If he is guarding a nest, that could complicate things, since that means he has a mate. A mate even your eyes can't pick out from so far away. It would probably be best to avoid the tiger completely... But that would mean finding another way into the volcano, and who knows how long that could take. So far, you've only been able to spot one entrance on this side of the volcano; the mouth of a small cave, dangerously close to the Godtiger prowling around. For all you know, that could be his nest. You really don't want to hurt the creature... But what else can you do? You might be able to tame him...
Whatever you decide, you need to decide quickly. You can't afford to stop and think, so you'll have to come up with a plan on the fly.
----- A: Engage the Godtiger head on, but use non-lethal force. Try to subdue him. B: Sneak by the Godtiger, and try to trap him in a non-lethal pitfall. C: Sneak by the Godtiger, and try to make a run for the cave. D: Look for another way into the volcano.

A. Our armor may be able to help out here. "Godtiger Mask (+10 Def, +10 Res. Grants 50% Immunity to all status ailments. Beast type monsters have a 10% better chance to miss each attack against this unit. Small chance to befriend a Godtiger after defeating one"

Wow... I just noticed I accidentally wrote "POV Nagi" twice and the potential potential typo. Lol. I hate my dumb phone. Anyway, A is locked. Will update tomorrow. But for now, have an infobump. The Yesterday Man: An enigmatic old man Nagi met in the depths of the Sacred Forest. While his past and even his identity are a complete mystery, Nagi called him 'Father'. But what did she mean? Did she mean to imply he was her biological father? Both mainstream religion and lore say that 'Death' and 'Nature' were the only legitimate children of the Creator. 'Nature' became known as Mother Gaia, the 'Eldest' daughter of Origin Himself, but records describing 'Death' are not so prevalent. In the Book of Ten Thousand Stars, Death is only described as "a journey into the unknown". So what did Nagi truly mean? If the Unknown Element is the daughter of the Creator, then did she mean to imply that hunched over old man wearing an Owl mask is the Creator of the Universe? Or did she mean to imply something else entirely? Find out next time on Dragonb- I mean, on UB! Or not.

(Continued) Subduing him quickly is my best option. But I don't want to hurt him either... If I could transform, this wouldn't be a problem... But as is, subduing such a large and obviously ancient Godtiger will prove quite difficult. Perhaps I can speak with him...You pick up the pace, flying through the treetops at incredible speeds, leaping from branch to branch like a white blur. As you get closer however, you slow down considerably and mask your presence, choosing to approach the agitated Godtiger with caution. Upon closer inspection, this Godtiger is even larger and more powerful than you originally thought. In fact, he may very well be the largest Godtiger you've ever seen. His massive form stands close to forty feet tall on all fours, and his white fur coat is covered with an intricate pattern of thick black stripes. The tiger's muscles are sinewy and athletic, and despite his considerable bulk, you believe it's safe to assume he's extremely fast. He paces around the cave entrance, snapping at the rockface, and you're surprised to realize he isn't guarding the cave as you guessed, but trying to get in the cave. Interesting. You continue to quietly creep closer, making sure to stay hidden, until you're only a couple trees away from the forest's edge. From so close, you're even more awed by this majestic creature. He's so beautiful... Please, oh please don't make me hurt you, my friend...The giant behemoth continues to stalk the cave, growling and huffing, his tail swishing violently. If you can just get a bit closer... You risk jumping to the next tree, knowing full well how incredible a Godtiger's hearing is. The thick branch creaks slightly beneath your sudden wait, and you watch as the tiger's ears perk up. The massive cat turns slowly, methodically, and his icy blue eyes scan the forest's edge. You keep still, not even moving a muscle, and after a few tense minutes, the tiger's attention returns to the cave. As he turns around, his back to you, you notice something you missed before; a black spear, embedded deep into his left hind leg. You bite your lip in pity, and frustration. That's why he's so agitated. The poor thing is injured, and you'd be willing to bet the hunter who hit him is somewhere in that cave. But a normal spear shouldn't even be able to scratch a creature of this magnitude, let alone penetrate so deeply. Well, regardless of how it happened, you need to get that arrow out. And sneaking around him may prove next to impossible... There's only one thing to do then. You quietly remove your spear from your back, and slowly climb down the tree. What happens next happens so quickly it's difficult even for you to keep up. The Godtiger hears you and suddenly whirls around with the ferocity of a hurricane. His massive paw slams into the equally massive tree trunk, snapping it like a twig. You leap from the tree just before it snaps in two, and land on the Godtiger's back, between his shoulders, just below his neck. The Elder Tree which had likely existed since time immemorial collides into the forest floor with a sound like splitting thunder, sending a flurry of debris, dirt, and birds skyward. The Godtiger bucks wildly, trying his absolute best to throw you off, while you frantically try to hold on. The Godtiger's massive body slams into the mountain, and for a moment, you fear the cave will collapse or worse, the poor thing will injure himself. You wait until his head is close to the ground, and jump off. You land on the ground below already rolling, and pop to your feet. Your concern is immediately justified, and your eyes widen, as you notice the newly formed pool of blood marring his beautiful white coat. Dammit, he opened his wound! Why didn't I realize that would happen?! If I don't do something quickly-The Godtiger charges you in a fit of pain and rage, and you roll to the side, narrowly avoiding his snapping jaws, your mind working frantically for a solution that doesn't result in his death. Your mouth is already well ahead of your mind however, and you're speaking the Chant of the Wild aloud before you even realize it. It was an old hymn taught to you by your sister ages ago, designed to soothe even the hardest of hearts and wildest of beasts. You fill your voice with all the power and emotion you can muster; you fear of hurting him, the urgency of the situation, you pour everything to your voice. The effect is minimal at first. The Godtiger is fast and powerful, but you dance around him, gently striking him with your spear, not to hurt him, but to wear him down. By the time the Godtiger finally collapses in exhaustion, his eyes are barely open, his chest is barely moving, and the ground is soaked in his blood. Terrified you're too late, you throw your spear aside and rush to the poor creature's side, your heart pounding. I refuse to let you die. Not if I can help it.The poor thing is far too weak to resist your efforts, and as you gently pet him and console him, the mistrust fades from his eyes. You manage, just barely, to slip some of your Elixir into his mouth. The Godtiger gags for a moment, but thankfully he swallows it. You quickly turn your attention to the spear in it's leg, and apply a dose of vulnerary around the wound. "This is going to hurt. Bear with me, all right?" Before Elixir can fully enter his system, you grasp the Spear and pull it free in a single motion. It comes away cleanly, thank Origin, and the poor Tiger howls in agony. You watch as the Vulnerary and Elixir take effect, and the wound stitches itself close. Srill the massive animal lays there, breathing rapidly, moaning, but unable to move. He isn't out of the woods yet, you realize. He's lost so much blood. You'll have to stay with him for a bit. You kneel down near his massive furry head, not worried in the least, and gently stroke his soft fur. "Everything's fine now, little one. You're safe." Now completely docile, the tiger opens his eyes, and you inhale sharply at the vast store of intelligence you see within them. His mouth opens slightly, but only to slobber your hand with his tongue. You give a light laugh, as you wipe your hand on the grass. "I suppose I had that coming, didn't I? Hmm... Maybe I should name you? I don't want to always refer to you as 'that tiger'. That would be rude, now wouldn't it? Would you be okay with that?" The tiger moves his head slightly in a barely perceptible nod, and you smile. "That's good to hear. I thought you'd be okay with it. Hmm... The only question now is, what do I call you?" ------- Congrats, you have your very own adorable pet Godtiger! Now It's time for the naming game! There will be five preset options for you to choose from, and each choice will be reflected by Nagi's past; I.E, something she would actually name him. You may also choose your own name. A: Azrael(Quite obvious where this comes from, no?) B: Miki(A nickname Nagi called her mother as a child) C: Milo(The name of her first pet cat) D: Radiant(Because of his bright white coat) E: Penny(A nickname she called her son when he was a baby) F: Custom Choice

C, cause Milo is a funny name for a big tiger. And I can't think of any other names right now.
