I think it's because most subspecies mons aren't really that different from their normal counterparts. Generally speaking, they're usually just older versions of the same monster, or a mutated version.
In 4, and by extension 4G/4U, they changed that. Now, most of the new subspecies actually are different from the normal versions.
EX- Tidal Najarala is basically an Amphibian sea serpent, and an entirely different animal, like a Copperhead is to a Anaconda. The only thing they have in common is that they're both snakes.
The only exception to this(I think) is the Dara subspecies. He's just a much older Dara.

It's unclear to anyone who doesn't know that his Japanese name is Dara Amadyura.
Call him Dala instead.
We don't call Tigrex "Trekku".

Well, I have a full Tetsucabra set. Time to boost my HR so I can finish the Lagombi set. Tetsu set will do wonders with my Charge Blade.
*Kicks back* Now, I wonder what to do next. HR or story quests? Hm...

*reading Monster Hunter YMMV on TV Tropes*
*Goldbeard Ceadeus and Tri Rathalos listed as "That One Boss"*
*Never carted more than once against GC, never failed to take him down, and fought him 20+ times solo*
I honestly think Jhen Mohran was harder than him.

Tv tropes is weird like that. I only go there to learn details about a new game. I also use it to look up the characters and the tropes they are assigned.

Fridge Brilliance:
The Frenzy Virus by itself doesn't seem to do anything to you, aside from stopping your health regeneration. How do you recover, and get some offensive boosts that come with the recovery? Attack! Attack! Attack! Think about it: Those two incentives encourage you to attack anything that moves, and that in itself is the infection-induced hunger for monster blood.

I never realized her extreme my fear of spiders were until I faced Nerscylla to upgrade to HR 2. When te battle started, I was paralyzed like heck. When I saw those poison pincers elongate, I freaked out.
I beat her with 10 minutes to spare. Forged a poison insect Glaive until the next charge blade forging is available. But she ave me quite the scare. Not facing her again. Ever. At least until G-rank and High rank.

Nerscylla is actually really easy. But it is creepy. And it's even creepier when you realize Nerscylla devours and wears the skins of Gypceros. Those giant cocoons in Nerscylla's lair(Area 5)? Those are dead Gypceros it hasn't skinned yet.
And Fen-Fen, I thought you weren't scared of the monsters anymore! I kept trying to tell you; you just haven't fought all the monsters yet.
Unfortunately for you, you will have to fight Nerscylla again in Low Rank, if you haven't completed Harth yet.

She's easy, but really darn freaky. And I'm only scared because I hate spiders IRL. I hate snakes, but even they for scare me in games like this. Spiders look more fearsome, I guess. Seriously, did you see how long her pincers reached? I cringed when she put me to sleep. Was relieved she left me alone... Only for her to try to poison me every time with those pincers. She's a little tougher on HR, but every monster is amped up. Her normal version will probably be easier. Is she weak to fire? Not only that, but I'm farming Rathian for her entire set. Still have to wait on Ranthalos quest to appear.

*Says snakes aren't fearsome*
*Hasn't seen Najarala or Dalamadur yet*
You do realize Jormungand is in this game, right? You know, 1500 foot long giant snake?
And yes, Nerscylla is weak to fire. Rathian's set isn't very good in LR, btw.
