I might start using CB again too. I've been using multiple weapons this whole time, so I won't have the same adjustment problems. I'm used to switching between multiple weapons.

The whole CB strategy has changed. Instead of spamming the explosive guard point (it no longer has ridiculous stagger) and then using the phial combo, it now revolves around charging the shield to boost your damage.
CB and GL both had big overhauls in this game. IG and Lance had some minor ones, but Striker Lance reverts the biggest change (the final thrust in the triple combo is a slow and strong one that hits 3 times, but makes Evade Lancing a bit trickier).

I'm retiring Meowsamune and have hired a new Palico with excellent offensive skills (I had several but this one is the best so far and you can't rename Palicoes so I had to find a new one) named Nobunyaga.

I'm already tired of monsters cheating in this game.

Why are gathering quests so terrible in this game... They all take like 30-40 minutes or more. I've spent 45 minutes on a quest to get 5 Monster Guts, and I'm probably going to fail the quest due to time-out. Why? Because all but one lone Zamite have stopped spawning. I have 4 Monster Guts, and the game simply refuses to give me the last one.
I'm starting to understand why people have said the quests are generally bad in this game. The monsters are coded to cheat, and have less health but more artificial difficulty, and the gathering quests are more rage inducing than G-Rank Rajang.

Yep, first quest failed of the game. Why? Certainly not because of skill. No, because luck and because the quest was terribly designed.
I can't understand why some people believe MHG is better than 4U. It's not. Not by a long shot. 4U is better in almost every single aspect. By miles.

Eh, not in monster selection. Generations has a lot of interesting monsters cut from 4U and the only particularly good monster that didn't make it was Nerscylla. Plus, the styles add a lot more variety to the game, and the upgrade system is a bit more forgiving as well. Calico customization is better too.
4U shines in story, presentation, and G Rank.
Gathering quests were often just as bad in 4U, it's just that there are more Village quests in Generations.

I did a lot of gathering quests in 4U. A lot. Never failed a single one, never even came close. I did a lot of gathering quests in 3U. A lot. Never failed a single one, never even came close. I did a lot of gathering quests in Portable 3rd. A lot. Never failed a single one, never even came close. I did a lot of gathering quests in Freedom Unite. A lot. Never failed a single one, never even came close. I did a lot of gathering quests in 4. A lot. Never failed a single one, never even came close.
Grand total, I have around 2000 hours or so put into MH games. 2000 hours. In all that time, I have only failed a gathering quest once. I have come close to failing one two other times. All three quests were in MHG.
They changed the formula for drop and spawn rates in MHG. They also took out unlimited spawning in nearly all quests. They also don't give you nearly as much actual quest info- just a single witty or punny paragraph in the form of a quest report, without giving you any actual information on said quest. And the quest givers are just as bad.
In the older games, using a healing item during a fight only increased your chance of procing aggro by a bit. In MHG, some monsters are actually hard coded to immediately turn towards you and use their longest/widest reaching attack whenever you heal. The worst offender of this is Glavenus, though he's not the only one.
All monsters now combo a lot more often and can stun you much easier. Generally speaking, two hits in a small timeframe is an automatic stun. In earlier games, this wasn't the case and the timeframe between attacks for a potential stun was quite a bit larger. This means nearly every single large monster in the game has a good chance to stunlock you, just from a lucky hit. Combined with the added proc rate and even hard coded aggro for healing, this means you can get carted in literally a few seconds. And it can happen a lot. This is only in MHG.
In order to "balance out" the new monster AIs, Capcom gave them much less health. That's it. There is absolutely no way you can argue that isn't piss poor design.
The story in MHG is nonexistent. It's even worse than 3U. There is no G-Rank, only deviant monsters which are more BS than Apex monsters. Except without any sort of relevance. Deviant monsters are just... There. The game doesn't even try to explain why no one discovered them before. Instead, they hand wave Deviant monsters like FE:Fates hand waves the Astral Plane and pretends Deviant monsters are perfectly normal. Are they fun to fight? No, most of them are more rage inducing than Alatreon and just plain frustrating.
The new upgrade system eats away money like Donald Trump. I've gone from over 400K in my file to 76K, just from upgrading weapons. So, does the game do anything to help with this issue? Like give a little bit more money per quest, or allow each player to get the full reward money in multiplayer? Nope. Not a damn thing.
The only good thing about MHG is the styles, and the monster selection. That's it. And that doesn't excuse the whole laundry list of problems with it.
tl;dr The styles and monster selection in MHG is a big step forward. Everything else is a major step backwards. Overall, 4U is a much better game.

Think of Generations as a bit of a test. Capcom is likely looking at it to see what elements from it should be retained, and what incarnation of the classic series element should be used going forward. Basicallly, they'll probably try to blend the bests parts of this game and 4U for future entries in the franchise. Generations has it's flaws for sure, but even as a bit of an experiment, it's still a solid game, even if not the evolution of MH.

Apex monsters were more BS because it relied on an item cooldown to even fight.
Generations also decreased monster damage and compensated with the addition of styles. The aggro with potions is not hard coded to such an extent, the two-hit stun only really happens with Thunderblight, weapon upgrades are only very expensive at high ranks (and even then the money is easily recoverable by selling items you buy with points).
Infinite spawning is the only glaring issue, and your problem with Deviants is purely an opinion that you're using in another of your irritation-fueled rants that happen every single time you are mildly displeased with anything.
Plus, your problem with failing a gathering quest is mostly just luck. It was bound to happen eventually.
And the reduced unlimited spawning is actually a blessing in the majority of quests since it allows you to easily clear Rhenoplos and Bullfangos from an area.
The real difficulty provided by challenging AI is much better than the artificial difficulty of one-shots attacks of classic MH since it provides a better learning curve. Inexperienced players won't be immediately slaughtered and veterans won't feel bored by ridiculously simple and easy to predict monsters.

In my experience with Monster Hunting games (AKA Soul Sacrifice), having dumb monsters with a ton of health isn't preferable, since that eventually boils down to a battle of attrition. And while that can have its own challenges, it's the main reason I got bored with it by now.
Hi topic that's infinitely more active than Oz most active topic on the site!

Also Deviant monsters are explained.
They are monsters who have lived a very long time and have become more powerful with age, and they hadn't been discovered before because hunters and researchers who had been sent before were killed.

Inexperienced players won't be immediately slaughtered and veterans won't feel bored by ridiculously simple and easy to predict monsters. First of all, if you think two-hit stuns only happen with Thunderblight, you're just plain wrong. I've been regularly stunned by two hits by Shagaru, Narga, Gammoth, Mizu, and several others. Second of all, I wouldn't have failed that gathering quest at all if it weren't for the fact that the monsters you need to farm for it stopped spawning. Thirdly, I would not have said the healing aggro was coded at all if it didn't happen to me 8-9/10 times. That is not an exaggeration. And lastly, the bolded part. Let it be on record that I wasn't the one who was hostile. Nor did I claim my issue with Deviants was a fact. You are clearly the one who is being hostile here, Golurk, AND you made this personal when it was completely unwarranted. Also, how many Deviants have you actually fought?

Also, you can't say removing unlimited spawns is a good thing. Sure, it was a pain in the ass sometimes. But it never actively made the quest unreasonably difficult, or even made you fail. They could have kept unlimited spawning in quests where you actually need it. They didn't. There is no justifying that.

I got 2-hit stunned by Stonefist. Then he knocked me down during the stun. Then he 2-hit stunned me again as I stood up with no chance for a reaction despite mashing dodge. The only reason his next attack didn't kill me is because we were on a gentle slope and it went over my head.
But deviants are explained. Not sure if it's in-game, though. They're monsters people tried to hunt illegally, without guild support, that killed their would-be hunters and learned how to deal with them. They're also giant sacks of **** whose armor skills don't activate until rank ****ing 6. Which is a minimum of 3 hunts for every rank 1-5.

Let me quote you directly:
"deviant monsters which are more BS than Apex monsters"
That is stated as a fact.
And "regularly stunned in two hits", are you sure they were two hits? Stun buildup takes a while to go away and it's really easy to shake off as well.
As for the healing aggro thing, it's a complete exaggeration, otherwise, healing would be largely impossible. Plus, it is a greatly recorded fact that negative experiences are remembered more often than positive ones to an extensive degree.
And you're the one making things hostile. I'm not exploding every time something upsets me (YGO Pro, Arc V, STARS, MH4U before, DA:I) and then being a jerk to everyone who tries to make a counterpoint.

And I agree with Neo about turning off infi-spawn in babby monster hunting quests. That specific quest Neo's talking about, I also ran into the same problem, and just got luckier. It's a pain.
Golurk's right about Neo's tendency to exaggerate tirades over mild irritations.
Neo's extremely right about Golurk's tendency to make it personal.

Lurk, I was not being hostile to you. And I certainly wasn't being a jerk to you. I didn't even mention you at all in my first post. You made it personal in your post right afterwards. And now you're making it even more personal with the last bit of your post, bringing up things that have absolutely nothing to do with this discussion. But I'm going to stop here because trying to defend myself only ever ends up with me being the bad guy.
