"So you think the only way I'll be able to get out of marrying him is by hating him?"
But I don't hate him, so now I have no choice? They'll make me marry him, even though I'm not ready?

"That's not what I meant." Arcturus told Elia as he lowered his arms. "I doubt he'd have you married without your consent. He does want you to be happy after all. And Jet, I would love her just the same. I love her now, and I'll love her tomorrow, and the next day, and the day after that. That won't change."

"I'm not saying you don't love her now, I'm saying if you'd wed her under different circumstances it wouldn't have felt as right. Sure you love her, but there were so many moments when you told her to wait because you weren't ready. Don't you feel like you're trying to push Elia too far in the same direction?" Jet began eating again as she needed energy. Her shift in getting Pearl ready was coming up soon."
"So then drink. There's plenty of it."

"I'm not trying to push; I'm only saying that more likely than not it's going to end up happening. It's a prediction." Arcturus sighed aloud as he drank a glass of what appeared to be grape juice.
This isn't juice nor wine. What is it?

"You still don't understand..."
It's not as simple as what I want. You don't know about all the pressure...

"Judging from the way Elia's reacting I'd say you're entire family doesn't share that view. Speaking of Family, I now realize you've been my brother for some time. Does that mean we gotta meet at awkward family reunions? Because honestly I'm fine with you just stopping by once in awhile rather than getting everyone together." Wha-Wha resumed taking Layla's lips as Alucard cut into a raw steak.
"Pomegranate juice. And since you tried something new I'll tell you a tid bit, You're tongue will be noticeably longer."

"Actually, I think I'll host the first family reunion. By the way, what do you call your family? The Nivians?" Arcturus asked curiously as he grabbed what appeared to be a glistening red berry on a red stalk and ate it.
This is no fruit. It's squishy and feels like oyster. Is it going to kill me?

"Wouldn't be able to tell you. We don't really have last names. I'll let you come up with something." Alucard spoke up now that Elia was actually paying attention, "Your nephew has some news for you. I think it'd be best if he told you on such a grey area subject."
"No, not by any means. But humans from your culture don't really eat that part of the animal."

I'm not sure what to make of that. So, with another thing down, what other surprises involving my relationship with Pearl would be in store after my transformation.
"Elia, as my only human family member present here, I need to tell you something." Arcturus sorta half-smiled as he spoke. "You know my, curse, right? In eleven months time, I turn to stone. However, that won't be happening. Our friend and host Alucard has decided to lift the curse, but it will involve a certain ritual. We have to share blood some time next month, and as a side effect, you should be able to figure the rest out."

As the realization of what that meant set in, Elia's eyes widened in a mixture of disbelief and fear.
"No..."
Is that the only option? Is he really going to become a monster in order to avoid fighting Alucard?
"Isn't there something else that could be done? Some way to reverse the curse? What about a cure should you become a vampire? If there isn't one already, maybe we can come up with one ourselves!"

"I've already come to terms with it." Arcturus told Elia as he stood up to calm her. "Alucard has agreed to keep me here, away from society, until I am able to control the primal urges that come with vampirism. There are cures to Sanguine Vampiris, but not to vampirism itself. This is a blood transfusion, turning me into a full-bred vampire like Alucard in an instant. If it was via bite, it would be possible to reverse the transformation for a few days, but that is not the case."

"A better control of your blood flow can maintain a stamina beyond regular stamina. She'll be the tired out one when that occurs."
"My most sincere apologies lady Elia, but my other self tends to go on rampages I cannot control. I will do everything in my power to make this transition as painless as possible, but it is the only written cure to the stone pact." Trying to lighten the mood Jet said, "You know since both your father and Tafl are from Jorkum we can have a drinking competition. Every distillery this side of Shaldra might be run dry."

"Well I knew that, it's part of Magickal Creatures 101. I was asking if anything strange happens to my, you know, parts.
"I'm a pushover when it comes to alcohol, especially when compared to other people of similar descent." Arcturus admitted as he quickly downed a glass of unknown contents.
Is this whiskey? It tastes a bit dry...

"Well you will be able to exceed your current tipping point, and the diameter might grow. It really depends on how your genes react to the virus. But from examining yours I'd say you'll notice a growth. Another thing for the drink, you can sense her sensitive spots."
"Well at least you can drink it, unlike us as you learned by example. S- Senora Elia would you care for some Pomegranate Juice?"

That's really... special. Now I have to get some bigger underwear. Anyways, on to the digestive system and eating habits. What will I need to eat to sustain my undeath if anything at all? I know many drink blood, including yourself, but is it entirely necessary? Can you substitute some sort of potion or non-human blood? I kinda dozed off during the chapter on vampires in class.
"Senora?" Arcturus asked with curiosity. "I haven't heard that in a while. How did you come across that bit of the southern dialect?"

Elia held a glass in her hands, looking down at it as she thought.
Pomegranate? What are pomegranates? They must not grow anywhere near Dalthia, and I don't think I've had one since I came to Cleatia...

"It's not drastically different from that of a human. Certain 'foods' are better for you and you grow weaker if you don't eat. The most delicious thing you can find to eat is virgin blood of a young maiden, but there are plenty of other foods that can feed us. The most common substitute is a potion called 'King's Daughter' as the man who made it created the formula based on an ancient princess' blood. It's sold in almost all black markets and is basically an enhanced pigs blood made by type-5's."
"Don't worry there's nothing funny in it. I find it has a nice flavor." Jet says to Elia before turning to Arcturus, "Well awhile ago I took a trip there for soome booze for Tafl called tequila. Some stranger addressed me by it before I knocked his lights out."

"Oh, I was just wondering if I've even seen a pomegranate before," Elia said as she continued to think, "They must be grown near the coast or in another country, because I hadn't even heard of them before I came to Cleatia."

"They're not all that common. The ones we get grow on an island that's part of The Shiryu Alliance."

"The Shiryu Alliance, huh? That would explain why I haven't had one since coming to Cleatia. And back home they could have only been sold on the black market due to the embargo," Elia said.
