"Is there something on your mind?" Elia asked quietly as she placed her hand on Vincent's arm and sat down beside him.
I wonder when he sensed that I had awakened and was coming to find him... He didn't open his eyes or greet me, but I know he must have sensed it.

Vincent smiled slightly at Elia's touch, opening his eyes and motioning to the new graveyard in front of them. "This... Your village, your family... All of it is my fault. Michael... He... He was my son."
He takes a shaky breath. "All of my mistakes, everything that I've done... This is the proof that eats away at me. For so long, I wanted to go back and change things... I needed it desperately. I needed someone to tell me I wasn't a monster, someone or something to prove that there was still some good left in me. And then I met you, Elia. You... Changed me. You made me realize that wallowing in my past mistakes will change nothing. And for that, I will always love you."
He closes his eyes again, and sighs. "But last night, I buried my son again, for the second time... I... I'm terrified, Elia. I'm so very, very terrified."

Your... son?!
"You're terrified... of hurting the ones you love, and terrified of losing them?" she asked as tears formed in her eyes.

He nods. "Yes. I am Death, Elia. That will never change. Everyone I have ever loved, save for you and one other, I have lost. Before, I had something else to keep me sane, to help drive me forward, to help me recover from every loss.. But now... All I have are the very people I'm so terrified to lose. I am nothing but a shell of my former self. I am nothing but a ghost... If I... If I had to bury you, or our child, I honestly don't know if I could survive it."
He suddenly smiles and turns to her, tenderly wiping away her tears. "But don't misunderstand me, Yekiri. I still firmly believe in creating our own fate. And I intend to find a way to keep you by my side. That will be my purpose. I don't care how long it takes, I will find a way. That is, if you want to put up with me for that long? I know I'm not the easiest person to deal with, but..."

Elia smiled at his optimism. She gave a contented sigh and then held his hand and leaned her head on his shoulder. "We'll find a way, you and I. We'll figure out a way so that we don't have to fear anything like that. We've already defied the odds before, so I have faith we can do it again."

Vincent leans over and places a gentle kiss on the top of her head. "As do I. That's why, while I'm scared of losing you, I'm not worried. It's an odd feeling, and I'm probably not doing it justice by attempting to describe it. But enough of that for now. We'll have plenty of time to discuss us once we get home. Are you all packed and ready to go?"

"Not just yet. I have to wait so I can heal the injuries Irving sustained while fighfing off the cultists to defend us. I already said I would, and it's only right considering the circumstances."
Plus, Vincent has already done something extra to acknowledge his appreciation for Irving's help, even when things turned out to be nothing like the job he was paid to do yet he did it anyway. I have to do something as a gesture of my thankfulness and the trust I have in him.

"I know," Vincent says, his smile widening. "You're far too kind, my Elia. I only meant to ask if you have everything packed."
He looks back towards the cave. "I have something I wish to tell him myself, before we part ways..."

The moments that followed Irving waking up were mostly uneventful. Rosetta, now with a recovered mana pool, healed Irving's wounds to good-as-new condition. It wasn't long before they all had their bags packed up and the three of them were ready to venture out of the valley, Irving certain that they would part ways once the road split.
"Thanks, Rosetta", he said to her, after the healing. "It wasn't what I was expecting, but I hope you feel a lot better now that we took down those who destroyed your village. The region won't be missing them.

"No, thank you for not giving up on us or the mission. If I had known how things were going to happen, I would never have been able to ask you to do all the things you did. Yet you did them anyway. Thank you, Irving."
And one more thing...
"Also, it's Elia. I was deceptive and refused to give you my real name initially. But now I really believe I can trust you, and you earned the right to know who I really am. So please, from now on you may call me Elia. And once again... Thank you," she said before stepping back to let Vincent say his farewells.

Vincent gave her a slightly surprised look, but there was no hesitation in his gaze. Only pride and adoration. It was quite clear he trusted Irving as well, even if he barely knew him, and earning Vincent's trust so quickly was no small feat.
"I am... In your debt. I have already given you my sacred oath, and I will leave it at that. However... If you would like official training as a Type 2, I would be glad to train you. I can teach you to control your powers, perhaps better than anyone else in Austur."

Irving was going to question Elia why she felt her name was important enough to lie about it, but decided against it.
"...However... If you would like official training as a Type 2, I would be glad to train you. I can teach you to control your powers, perhaps better than anyone else in Austur."
Apprenticeship? Even after what happened back there with your old student?
"I'm... in the middle of doing something right now", answered Irving. "But once I have the chance, I would love it if you can tell me how to find you and take you up on yer offer. If you can't, then I'd like to know if there's some way to stop bein' able to use Type-2 magick. I wanna stop myself from goin'... crazed... when I get hurt too bad... Or see a lot of blood... or get touched... You saw how I tore apart those necromancers? I got a big problem with that."

Vincent pondered Irving's dilemma for a few moments, deciding how best to answer. "There is a small village at the southern base of the mountains," he answers finally. "Speak to the mayor, and ask for the Lord of the Mountains. You may contact me that way, should you wish to train in the future. As for now, however, and your other request... I can suppress your magic for a limited amount of time, but even I cannot change who you are. A mage's 'type' does not simply reflect their specialization in magic. It reflects the very core of their being; your soul, if you will. Let me ask you this, Irving. Where do you think you would be right now, at this moment in time, if you did not have magic? True control is based on a foundation of acceptance; if you cannot accept yourself for who you are, you have little hope of mastering your powers. I, above all others, understand what it's like to lose control. But if you could not go 'crazed', as you put it, then both Elia and I would have lost our lives last night. There is no such thing as a 'evil' or 'bad' power, Irving. Your power is only a tool; it is up to you to decide how you use it. Before we part ways, let me offer you this final piece of advice: Even the greatest warrior is little more than a beast without his humanity. That is the key, Irving. Recognize you are still human, understand what it means to be human, and learn to accept yourself for who you are. The rest will fall into place naturally, even without my training."
Vincent smiles and extends his hand. "It was a pleasure to meet you, Irving Jailus."

"...You get all that from a fortune teller?" commented Irving at last. He sighed. "Can't say I completely get what yer tryin' to say, but I guess it's just something I gotta figure out. Thanks." He looked at Vincent's hand, hesitated briefly, and then shook it. "It was nice to meet you too, Vincent... uh... whatever your last name is."

Baron upon hearing Serlen was hungry lead him to a nearby village. They shared a good meal and decided to catch up. "So Serlen the last time we met that sword of yours was something special," Baron said to Serlen. "Tell me learn any techniques with that amazing sword of yours," Baron asked curiously.

"Well technically we are engaged," Baron said to Serlen. "Right after you left Vincent took me and her to the world tree (Yddra. Have no idea how to spell it) sapling, so he can perform a ritual for me and my other half," Baron said to Serlen. "After the ritual and before we went back to Vincent's place, I proposed to her and she said yes," Baron said while standing to stretch.
"Want to start heading back?" Baron asked Serlen

After parting ways with Irving, Vincent and Elia began the trek back to Gorgath. It was a short, mostly uneventful journey, with the only notable thing that happened being them seeing a rare White Stag. Despite all that had happened, or rather, thanks to it, the pair were even closer than they had been before, and Vincent found himself truly thankful he decided to check up on her that one fateful night. He no longer had to hide anything from her, or fear the possibility of her finding out and hating him for his past, and it relieved him to no end. A mountain of weight was lifted from his shoulders, and he began to smile more often; something that had been as rare as a White Stag before.
While they did talk on the journey back, it was mostly Vincent telling her about Shiryu, and the many sights he's seen in his travels across Austur. Neither of them was in a rush. They had time; Elia was young and Vincent was undying. And with that knowledge, their relationship slowly began to blossom into a pure one, something that seemed ripped right from the pages of a fairytale.
As the hidden entrance of Gorgath came into view, Vincent stopped abruptly and turned to Elia, giving a warm, knowing smile. "Would you like to unpack first before we head down to the village, Yekiri?"

"Okay, let's start heading back," Baron said as he paid for the meal. "Wonder if Catie is still asleep?" Baron thought aloud.
"By the way, this may be a long shot but do you know anything about the Midnight Cathedral during your travels?" Baron asked Serlen as he exited the inn.
Meanwhile................
Catie still deep in slumber starts humming an odd tune in her sleep. (Mumbo de Chocobo)
