"Your woman? I don't see a ring on my hand."
Not yet, anyway. Maybe you should fix that.

Vincent raised a single eyebrow. "Oh? I see my signet ring on your finger, plain as day."
He grinned.

Irving grunted and rolled his eyes.
Gag me.
"Not interested", said Irving dismissively. He began unrolling the bandages.

"Oh? When did that get there? It still doesn't count, though. You didn't tell me how you felt until long after you gave me this ring," she jested.

"It wasn't that long," Vincent pouted. "Just a couple days. Fine, have it your way. I'll buy you a new ring when we get home."
Another wave of dizziness suddenly assaulted him, and he grunted, sliding down the wall. "I think... I should sit down for a while longer. Gah, I'm such a mess... Oh, how the mighty have fallen."

Really? You truly want me in your life enough that you would do that?
Elia quickly finished helping Irving with the medicine and then went to help Vincent, taking him hand in her's. "But I'll lend you a hand so you can pick yourself up off the ground, as if you had never fallen. Now, are you injured? Are you in pain? I can probably make more medicine in the morning from the herbs in the area. How are you?"

Vincent smiled as Elia helped him up, and he gave a light laugh at her flurry of concerned questions. "It's alright, Yekiri. I'm sore all over, a bit dizzy, and my head is throbbing, but nothing is broken. All things considered, I'm truly fortunate. With a little bit of rest, my body will heal on its own."
It could have been far, far worse... That scenario back there... It actually had the potential to kill me. But I'll keep that to myself. Elia has been through enough.
"Help me out of my coat, will you? I think it would be best if I lie down."

"Yes, I will. We all need to rest for now. And if you aren't going to use your coat, I will."
After Elia helped Vincent take off his coat she wrapped it around herself to keep warm, and sat down close enough to Vincent that she could keep holding his hand.

Vincent only smiled and gently squeezed her hand as he laid down on the cavern floor. He was tempted to pull her close, so he could hold her, but he decided to wait until Irving was asleep. Or, at least wait a few minutes. He didn't want to overload poor Irving's senses with warm fuzzy stuff.
Speaking of... "Irving, this may be an odd request... But may I have your family name? Tradition dictates I use your formal name when making an oath."

After applying the medicine and bandages, Irving pulled his top back on and slotted his pieces of armor back where they belonged. Throwing his weapons to the ground, Irving was about to lie down and use his traveling robes as a cover and blanket for sleep when Vincent asked him a question.
"Don't know, don't care", said Irving. "Never knew it. Use 'Jailus' if ya really need to."

Well... That simplifies things, I guess. Jailus, huh?
"Jailus it is. Irving Jailus, while I may not seem like much in my current state, I am, in fact, a representative of the Shiryuan pantheon. I owe you not only my own life, but the life of the one I care about most. I hereby grant you my blood oath; Should you ever find yourself, or someone you care about in trouble, you have but to call upon me. No matter the time, or place, I will come. However, my oath can only be used once, so use it wisely."

"Wait, what?" replied Irving. "The hell does that work? I just think up some favor and you show up in a puff of smoke?"

Vincent grins. "Kinda. But it has to be something that's either life threatening, or deeply connected to your soul. It's old magic. Better if you just don't question it."
Suddenly remembering something, he reaches over to Elia- excusing himself, but grinning mischeviously while he does- and digs in his coat for a leather pouch, which he then tosses at Irving. "Here. The rest of your coin, as promised."

"Thanks", said Irving. "I'll keep yer oath in mind, then. Hope ya don't get dragged out to where ever in... improper attire, when I decide to cash in, though. I've seen too much of the stuff to give much of a s***, but I doubt the people I deal with would take well to seeing ya bottomless."

Vincent chuckles. "Don't worry. I'll have plenty of time to prepare."
He yawns and stretches, suddenly very, very tired. He turns to Elia, grinning devilishly. "Hmm... Why are you so far away? Surely you don't intend to sleep sitting up."

Knowing (or at least, thinking he knew) what tended to come next with words like that, Irving turned his back toward the other two of them, lied down, and shut his eyes in an attempt to go to sleep as quickly as possible.

"I don't intend to, no," she answered, but she still did not move from her spot.

Vincent was too exhausted, both physically and emotionally, to be too disappointed. Besides, he had merely been teasing her... Well, mostly. He yawns again, and closes his eyes. "Fine, I'll stop bugging you. Good night, Yekiri. Wake me if you need anything."
A few seconds later, he was out like a light.

Baron noticed Serlen beginning to feel weak and woozy. "Come there will be time to analyze this stuff another day, you seem to have push yourself to your limits today," Baron said to Serlen in a concerned matter. Baron handed Serlen a vial filled with a clear liquid.
"It doesn't have any use for me but I keep it around for Catie when she feels weary, and weak its suppose to ease weariness," Baron told Serlen. "Say let's go get something to eat give us plenty of time to catch up," Baron said to Serlen

Vincent woke very early the next morning. He needed the sleep, true, but there was something he had to do, and it would likely take several hours. He didn't want to delay their return to Gorgath either; After everything that happened, Elia needed the comfort of home. So he woke unusually early, in the small hours of the morning. Careful not to wake Elia, he tenderly moved her aside and sat up, making sure to leave her wrapped in his coat. He slipped out of the cave unnoticed, but not before looking back at his sleeping treasure, and smiling.
You really did mean what you said, didn't you? You know who I am now... You may have suspected before, but now you know... And yet... You don't hate me. When you wake, I want to talk to you. I want you to know everything, my Elia. If you still love me then, then I...
He shakes his head, setting the thought aside for the time being. The early morning air is cold and bitter, and Vincent shivers. The sooner I finish this, the sooner I can return to you, Yekiri...
First, he begins digging a mass graveyard in the valley. In Lich form, he uses his powers to swiftly and easily erode and dissolve the ground, forming large holes. He then ventures back into the fort, deep enough so that he's certain he won't wake Elia or Irving, and destroys one of the walls. He uses the stone from the wall to make gravemarkers, and places them in front of every grave. After that's finished, he begins the process of hauling the bodies out into the valley. It takes him a long while, even with his superhuman strength, but he manages. The bandits are first, then the grisly remains of the Necromancers, and then finally...
Michael...
As he lays him in the ground for the second time, the boy he once considered his own son, the dam holding back his emotions finally shatters, and tears stream uncontrollably down Vincent's face. He crumpled to his knees, and sobbed until he was spent. He railed against the unjustness of it all, raging at the unfairness, the cruelty of it, and he cursed himself for his own stupidity that had led to this. His soft cries echoed quietly across the valley. Finally, once he regained control, he wiped his face on his bloody arm, and began to pray. He helped every lost soul there find solace. Even though the ritual left him drained and exhausted, he guided every soul onto the final leg of their journey. He celebrated their lives, both the good and the bad, and mourned their passing. And last of all, he stood face to face with the smiling young boy he had taken in all those many years ago. Then it was over, and Vincent wept.
He cleaned himself off in the fort, washing the blood and grime away, before returning to the cave, just as the first rays of dawn broke over the horizon. Exhausted and soul-weary, he wanted nothing more in that moment than to hold Elia. He needed it. She and Silver... They were the only living proof that he was good, and not a monster. But...
How can I touch her with these hands? I... I smell like death. No... I AM death. To embrace me is to die. Knowing that, how can I...? No... It matters not. Knowing her, she will wake in a few minutes anyway. I... Will get what rest I can, outside.
True to his word, Vincent immediately left the cave again, and sat down just outside, to the left of the entrance. He closed his eyes, but he was not foolish enough to ask for sleep. Instead, he merely meditated on his life, his past, and above all, his future.
