"I was asking what time you were taken from." Arcturus replied simply.

"I was asking what time you were taken from." Arcturus replied simply. "I'm not sure what you mean by time, dude. I'm in the current era. Though you're implying something, aren't you? Let me guess, it got wiped out? Not really surprised. Happens all the time in history." Fenrir dismissed.

"Current era?" Arcturus scoffed. "It's all current. All of it."

"Current era?" Arcturus scoffed. "It's all current. All of it." "I probably come from a earlier time then, before it happened. " Fenrir replied, sill inspecting Sam. The creature was quite fascinating.

"That doesn't excuse you from saying the 'Current Era'." Arcturus rolled his eyes.

"I am not some lab rat, or experiment," Sam tried to say in vain. "I am a familiar, and sigh it looks like he isn't listening," Sam let put a sigh as the strange scientist continued studying Sam Fenrir scribbled down some sort of mechanical design, writing something akin to the words cat armor. He gave Arcturus a pointed look. "What would you prefer? Post-Cleatia Era? Actually, what type are you in the magic department? Also, would you be interested in signing up for an... Experiment? I'm trying to create something that will allow humanity to communicate world-wide."

"Bah, we already have that kind of device. It's called a bunch of Type-4s." Arcturus sighed. "Just describe the most recent major events of history."
Arcturus reclined a bit before continuing. "I'm a Type-3, that's why I'm asking."

"Oh sure", grumbled Irving in response to the argument. "Because everyone and their mother knows a Type-4 that's willing to do favors for them."

"You know most cities have Type-4s you can hire, right?" Arcturus glared at Irving.

"Rich people aren't the only kinds of people in the world, and cities aren't the only places people can live in", retorted Irving.

"I'm a Type-3, that's why I'm asking." "But they take time. This will be instant, not gathering magic. While they are interesting, they contribute nothing but taking the thoughts of others, or speaking to others. As for recent events of history, I've been locking myself up in my room trying out new inventions. I'm not really worried about what's happening to Austur right now. They can handle themselves just fine. You never answered my question. Have you seen the girl I was talking about earlier?" Fenrir asked again, patting Sam on the head. "Hm, soft... Looks quite mean though."

"Rich? It's not that expensive. This device would be far more costly." Arcturus laughed. "Would you think that I know her?"

"Not that--
...You live at or near the capitol, don't you?" said Irving. "Take a walk around the countryside. You know, where raiders, slavers, and gangsters are a real danger. Might open yer eyes.
And sure, this device would be more expensive at first. It gets invented, sold for rich people who can afford it, more of it is made when people realize it can make money, then when all the rich folks have one (like my teacher says, "rich folk aren't going to buy 1000 pants because they can afford it, they'll still only buy what they'll wear"), they'll lower the price for the not-rich to buy so they get their money.
Besides, if the device is small enough, you can basically have your own personal Type-4 messenger in your pack no matter how far from the city you go."

"And what would power this device?" Arcturus inquired as he rolled his eyes skeptically. "If raiders are a constant threat, then how would they get these? What would connect this network? If it's neural, you'd still need a huge supply of Type-4s, and those would still need payment."

"Also, don't talk to me about not having walked around the countryside enough." Arcturus shifted his posture. "I worked as a smith until I was 15, then after a short break, practically lived in the wilderness, making my own smithy in the wilds after being rejected by my family, which then proceeded to collapse along with the rest of civilization for a while before I hit people with my hammer fast enough."

"They'd get it from armed caravans, obviously", said Irving. "I have no idea what you're even sayin' with the 'ned-work' or 'nuural' things, but it sounds like you're making stuff up when we don't even know how that somethin' will work.
As for the countryside thing, living by yourself and wanderin' from town to village ain't the same thing", said Irving. "I've been there, done that twice; collar or not."

"Rich? What rich? I don't really care about them. This is for people like me, who don't have that many funds stocked up. Also, Type-4's wouldn't power this... I'm thinking of some sort of energy, but that would require someone with elemental magic as their type, or..." Fenrir's eyes lit up as shot towards the nearest guard, shaking his shoulders.
"Tell me how you have energy generators and such! It's vital for my inventions!" He demanded not-so-nicely.

"Raiders are the least of your problems." Arcturus bared his fangs at Irving before shouting at the other guy. "It's not going to work! Not without extensive networking! Type-4s are much cheaper, since they're pretty common, and really aren't at all necessary since most people tend to live within a mile of those that they'd talk with."

Irving raised his hand to retort, but then decided against it.
"Screw it, you're annoying."
Irving picked up his ryfel by the trigger and held it as he stood up. He pointed it right at Mr.Right-All-The-Time and fired it point blank. The blue projectile connected with him and enveloped him in a prism, slowing his 'time' down to a standstill for anyone not hit by the projectile; i.e. everyone else.
"He'll be like that for seven minutes or so", he explained. "A snail would move faster in the meantime."
Irving sighed, ejected the overheated slot and replaced it with a Type-4 one before re-taking his seat and plopping his weapon down next to him again.
"...When's the queen going to see us?"
