Marth stares intently at the apple. He gives June a derisive snort.
June pats him at a break in his armor. "Oh, hush. I know they've been feeding you like a cow. And petting their 'special guest' non-stop." She looks over at one of the komodos poking its snout out of its stall. She frowns with revulsion as it flicks its tongue at her. "You've been behaving, right? Haven't started any fights with these... komodo things?"
Marth flicks his ear. He continues to stare at the apple and takes a few steps towards Irving.
"You can feed it to him if you want, Irving. He's pretty gentle, and seems to like you well enough. Just hold it out and make sure you keep your hand flat and steady. I know his size is a bit intimidating, but he won't bite you. On purpose, anyway."

Everyone at the breakfast table went there separate ways to get ready.
"So do you think she will chose me?" Sophie asked Ann.
"Probably not but can you imagine what it would have been like?" Ann said.
"Thanks for the vote of....," Sophie said to Ann before she was interrupted by one of the maids. "Wait what June wants to see me," Sophie said with a grittiness to her voice. "Oh this is so great," Sophie squeals
"Well now wouldn't want to keep June waiting," Ann said to an excited Sophie. "Oh before you leave," Ann said as her and Sophie shared a brief kiss before Sophie flew off towards the stables.
Sophie found the stables and practically busted right the doors. "June (huff huff) June I am here I heard (huff huff) you wanted to see me," Sophie said to June. "Just let me know what you need," Sophie said.

Irving held out the apple toward the horse. "Alright buddy, here you go."
"Alright sir, we're ready."
Joshua stopped drawing on a small piece of paper. He stood up and walked over to where the researcher was beckoning for him, in front of a glass room, the blast door leading to it locked electronically by an adjacent pad.
"We use this room whenever we need to use ether energy for experimentation," the researcher explained. "The glass is bulletproof, in case our test subjects ever become violent as a result. Too much concentration of ether agitates some of our wildlife, after all."
...Not the warmest first reception, if this works.
"All that's left is a card," the researcher said.
Before he would allow himself to hesitate, Joshua gave him the card he decided would be best to try first. "Do it."

Marth happily takes a large chunk out of Irving's apple. He stares Irving in the eye as he chews messily.
"Hm... Well, good. It looks like I found someone who can look after Marth if something happens to me," June says. "Which is... what I wanted to talk about. As soon as Sophie gets here-"
Sophie throws open the door and gasps out her greeting. Marth takes another bite to chew while he stares at her.
"Er... Thanks for coming so quick, Sophie, but you didn't need to sprint. And you should be quiet coming into stables, you don't want to spook the inhabitants," June warns her. Several of the komodos are clamoring to look at the new arrival. They stare at Sophie with a certain hunger, tongues flicking in and out excitedly.
"Right, well... Let's get started. Sophie. I want you fighting on the front with me. But keep yourself out of harm's way. If I fall, get captured, incapacitated... what have you, I want you to take over command. Irving... well, you've seen how useless I am fighting at a distance. And I already told you I want you near the back. We'll have two groups, and you'll be in charge of our rearline when we're split. You'll have a vantage point to see things I may miss and be able to respond accordingly. And a bit more responsibility may help you with your... problem. Objections?"

"Wait, what? You want me to be in charge of a group?" Irving asked. "Sorry, but that's a dumb idea. I'm used to fighting alone 'n' doin' what other people tell me, so I ain't going to be good with others. And if my problem shows up, then I would suck even harder at that stuff! It's better to ask someone else."

June places her hands on her hips and stares at Irving. She wears a mask of mild annoyance. As she speaks, she lets her old accent slip out. "Ya say you're good at listen' to what people tell you to do? Well, I'm tellin' ya to tell people what to do. I mentioned I grew up in a li'l ol' dirt-farmin' town, right? I weren't much older'n you when I took my first command. And you got the 'dvantage of already knowin' how to fight, at least. Now, I ain't askin' much. Five people, countin' yourself. You'll have standin' orders, and you'll only need to give some of your own if'n ya see a good reason. And if'n yer that concerned, choose someone else to take over if ya go wild."
Marth takes another bite of the apple with a loud crunch before jamming his snout into Irving's face.

"Wait fighting alongside you," Sophie stammers out. "Why this is just," Sophie said "Its just the greatest thing ever," Sophie said woth much glea. "Oh I can't wait to tell Ann, May...," Sophie said as she went silent.
"Oh that's right we were suppose to meet up with our friends when all this happened," Sophie said in a more somber tone. "Wouldn't be the first time though that I was ripped away from my home, family, and friends," Sophie said as the situation finally started to dawn on her. "True I have Ann, Mr. Mario, Starlow, and Bowser here but well May would really have loved to be here, Zack, all of them," Sophie said.
"Sorry Ms. June its just kinda of dawning on me, what happened," Sophie said wiping away a tear.
"Hey Irvin what does June mean your other side?" Sophie asked Irvin. "Are you a laguz or something like that?" Sophie asked Irvin.
"As you noticed I have wings and where I am from I am known as a bird laguz," Sophie said to Irvin. "See here with this stone I can transform into a Phoenix," Sophie said showing June and Irvin her Phoenix Stone. "What about you what do you turn into?" Sophie asked.

Irving simply ignored Sophie as he continued to address June. He stepped slightly out of the horse's reach.
"Dammit June, I know myself well enough t' know I'm prob'ly the worst person you coulda chosen!" he protested. "Why don'tcha get someone like Catie t' do it? Hell, I bet that Bowser idiot could do better."
Joshua crumpled one of the small pieces of paper out of stress as he anxiously stood watching Yancy's card, now placed on a short stand in the middle of the glass room, as the other researchers prepared themselves for observation, and another filled some other piece of machinery next to the room with the liquid substance he was watching out for. He eyed the blast door serving as the only entrance to the room. It was currently locked (it seemed unnecessary, but apparently, there's a safety measure where the room won't dispense ether unless the door is locked), and there were two simple buttons on the side of it; green for unlock, red for lock. The red one was lit.
"Dispensing ether in 3... 2... 1..."
A siren blared briefly as the room was steadily bathed in a greenish, yellow light. A nervous Joshua steadily inched over to the door as the interior of the room became denser. He couldn't tell if the card on top of the stand was twitching, or if it was merely his imagination. A few researchers scribbled away at their notes.
Shortly afterward, it finally happened. A pillar of light enveloped where the card was, now replaced by a young woman yelping in surprise as she realized too late that the chair she was reaching to sit on was suddenly not there. As she slipped off the small stand she was on, Joshua immediately punched the green button and swung the door open, him and another researcher standing slightly too close reeling back as a facefull of ether mist greeted them. Joshua shook his head as he recovered enough to dash to her side.
"Yancy!" Joshua exclaimed, kneeling down to her level and offering a hand. The very first thing he noticed was that she was now wearing her hat and a handbag over her shoulder. "Yancy, are you okay?"
Yancy picked herself up and looked at her surroundings. She found herself in a glass room, in a green fog of sorts that was rapidly dissipating, being observed by strangers writing on notepads and clipboards, being taped by a camcorder on a stand, and seemingly being as far away from Realgam as possible. She looked up to see Joshua next to her, offering a hand, which she accepted.
"J-Joshua?" Yancy asked, taking in her new surroundings as he helped her stand up. While he looked distressed, it wasn't to the extent where she would think they were in immediate danger, so at least she didn't have survival to worry about. "Where are we? What's going on?"
"It's... It's a long story" Joshua said. "But for now..."
Joshua pulled his beloved toward himself and wrapped his arms tightly around her. "I... I'm just glad you're here."
Yancy was caught off guard briefly, before wrapping her own arms around him and returning the embrace. She still had no end of questions she wanted to ask -- What is this place? What was that green fog? Why am I suddenly wearing my favorite hat? -- but as they stood finding mutual comfort in each other's presence, it somehow felt like things weren't going to be so bad.

Sophie looked mildly annoyed towards Irving.
"Well then June if that's how he feels," Sophie said to her. "I mean I was just a simple girl living in a village with my best friend," Sophie said. "Well until my best friend's older sister decided to nearly kill me and her and dispose of our bodies through an interdimensioal portal," Sophie continued.
"So yeah despite never seeing combat before I had to somehow learn how to fight, figure out what exactly was the mushroom kingdom, find Mr. Mario because apperently he was kidnapped, fight off mad scientist, a goddess or two or was it three, oh and a crazy clown person with a split personality," Sophie said.
"Oh and despite all that having to keep King Bowser in check, my best friend turn wife having a breakdown when we were fighting a giant purple Yoshi thing that ate my best friend, whatever the hell was going on with Mystic and Sheep, oh and Toadetta who could just teleport you out of the blue and give you a speech," Sophie told June and Irving. "Oh and the best part was having to fight off giant mechs, Dragons, And varouis other giants despite having no experience operating a toy turned Mech myself," Sophie said to them.
"Now then, while someone is too busy having a pity party because oh my Naga I have no experience, and pouting like an overgrown baby, me and June can discuss strategy," Sophie said as she stared at Irving. "If course if that's okay with you mister pouty face," Sophie said to Irving.

"Sophie!" June snaps at her. "Don't degrade him. You're better than that."
Marth stares in consternation at the half-eaten apple now out of his reach.
"Irving. You really think yourself less competent than that spike-shelled braggart? I chose you for several reasons, but mostly because I feel in my gut you're the right choice. Now, if you're really so absolutely doubtful of your abilities, you're free to refuse the offer - a commander too hesitant and uncertain to take action is worse than useless. I won't be happy about it, but I can find a replacement," June says with a serious tone. She lets her expression soften and gives him a gentle smile. "But, for what it's worth, I believe in you. You've got a lot of potential that you don't seem to realize."

What's a brag-art?
Irving smiled back at June. "I'm not sure what yer gut sees in me, but I still appreciate what you're saying...
As for you," Irving said, having dropped his smile to snarl at Sophie. "I don't know who the hell you think you are or what your life story is, and I really don't give a s***. You think me not wantin' to lead is being a baby? This ain't like them fairy tales where some stupid naive kid blindly jumps at whatever chance of adventure shows up and everythin' goes fine in the end. This is real life. This is a goddamn war. People die if someone, 'specially their commanders, screw up. You know what happens when someone with no experience or skills in leadership takes up the role to fight a freakin' dragon -- one of the most dangerous and feared beasts around in my world -- in the middle of a war? They don't get a win they don't deserve; they f***ing die. Horribly.
I know what I'm capable of better than you do. I have never lead a damn thing in my life, I ain't never even seen an actual dragon outside of pictures until now, I've never fought in a war, I am not capable of bein' responsible for the lives of the people I'd be leadin'! If those other folks out there have to sit around worryin' about whether they'll even get a chance to see their homes again -- Baron and Catie out there have kids, even -- then I'd rather let someone who actually knows what they're doing be the ones leading them. It's the least they can have. If this is somethin' you don't understand, than you're even dumber than you look."
Irving exhaled sharply as he stretched out the apple back to the horse's reach, now that it's not butting its face into his personal space.

June sighs and shrugs as she walks over to a stall. She swats the komodo's probing snout, then turns to lean against it. "You know, fighting's one thing. Fighting alongside someone's another. But leading...? Haha... You know the first person to die under my command, Irving? It was my own father. Then, Cecil's step-daughter. After that, Mary's father and Fumiko's husband... The Archbishop's wife was driven insane thanks to my choices. And so many close calls - Hell, you've seen my scar. Let me tell you, that fear never goes away - wondering if you're leading them right to their death. The fact you understand just how heavy a responsibility leading really is, the fact you know your limits and weaknesses - those are some of the most important, hardest-to-learn traits of a great leader, Irving. But-" June trails off. "...Sorry. I said I wouldn't force you. If you don't want the command, I suppose I'll take your recommendation and offer it to Catie. Though, unofficially, I'd still like you to think of yourself as an... adviser, if you think she's doing anything overly-risky. And you're welcome to stay while I discuss things with her and Sophie, of course."

"Hmph, well then I guess Fairy Tales always have you thrusted into a role where your forced to fight a demi god hell bent in destroying two worlds you love," Sophie said. "Like June just said you think anyone wanted that responsibility, where whether its a nation or entire world comes down to whether or not you can lead a group of very different people," Sophie said to Irving. "I have no idea what this Arstur is like, but then again you have no idea what our worlds are like either," Sophie said. "As far as those we lead, well I was responsible for a princess of a kingdom, a galaxy goddess type person, a famous and legendary hero, my wife, my best friends, oh and the king and lords of my home world," Sophie told Irving.
"But hey what do I know I am just a bird laguz from some small village," Sophie shrugged.
"Yet you have a point leadership isn't something to be taken lightly," Sophie said. "If its something you don't want, well that Aylassa person seems like she has experience, or there's Bowser who despite his well unique behavior actually lead an army and kingdom, or what about that Horatio person," Sophie said. "Sorry if I came across as cronfrotational or degrading," Sophie said to both June and Irving. "I was a bit annoyed and frustrated at the time, and what I said was uncalled for," Sophie said.

Irving thought a bit. "...Fine. I'll be the advi-zer. And... I'm sorry to hear about all that happened to ya.
Do you wanna talk to Catie yourself, or do I just deliver a message?"

"I just want to explain what you and her will be doing in the formation. I don't think you'll need to go get her." June walks over towards the barn door and calls out. "Caaaaaatiiiiiiie! I need you to come here for a minute!"

While Catie was getting ready and putting the final touches to her gear before her June senses started tingling. "Wait is that June, is she calling for me?" Catie said as her ears began to perk.
"Hey um Catie is everything okay?" Baron asked.
"Gotta go, see ya later Baron," Catie said as she gave Baron a quick kiss. "Now its time to get ready," Catie said as she lined herself up in the hallway. "Get set," Catie said as she placed her hands on the ground. "Go," Catie said as she took off at the speed of sound.
Catie went so fast she had smoke coming up besides her, and she looked like a blur, to anyone who even got a look at her. Varouis maids and servents either had to dive out of the way or got trampled if they were in the path of Catie.
Finally, Cattie appeared in front of June just mere minuets after June called for her.
"Hey June you called," Catie said as she left a trail of destruction in her wake.

"Hi, Catie." June reaches out and scratches her head. "Actually, I was hoping to talk to you about the upcoming battle. With Sophie and Irving. Do you have a minute?"

"Wait you need me, June?" Catie said as her tail wagged back and forth. "Of course I have a minute, hour, day, decade, century anything for you June," Catie said as her leg began to twitch almost on reflex.
"Hi Catie its nice to meet you," Sophie said to Catie.
"Hi umm pretty bird named Sophie," Catie said to Sophie. "You better not be trying anything funny with my best friend June," Catie said to Sophie.
"Ummm okay, Catie don't worry I wouldn't let anything to happen to June," Sophie reassured her.
"Better, so June how can I be of assistance?" Catie said just staring into Junes eyes.

"Easy, Catie," June says. She notices the leg twitch and adjusts to scratch behind Catie's ear. "Hehe... So cute," she whispers under her breath.
Marth snorts at June, then gets back to his important work with Irving's apple.
"We're all friends here, remember? Besides, what kind of funniness would Sophie be trying?" June asks. "I just wanted to talk strategy for a moment. Simply put, if you're willing, I'm placing you in charge of our support group. And Irving's going to give you a hand as an... adviser. You, Irving, Mystic, and Anne - between you, since I don't have a healing stave - is all our healing magic. Your job, Catie, is going to be to keep Irving and Anna safe, keep anyone injured safe, provide cover fire, and act as lookout. And if anyone gets too close, I want you to turn into a wolf and eat them. If you four fall, the rest of us are... in trouble. So..." June intensifies the ear scratches. "Do you think you can do it?"

"Arrr roar rar arrr ARF ARF," Catie kept on thinking. "No I am a big wolf now and I can't even though this ear rub is so Arrrrrrrr," Catie thought to herself.
"Yes Yes June I wwwwwould lllove to llead the support group," Catie tried saying well betweening talking and howling. "Oh June anything forrrrrrr you," Catie said as her tail just began waving back and forth in a rather steady pace. "Kkkkeep magic users, Irving, and Irving's hulking friend ssssaffff safe," Catie said as her left leg was visibly going up and down.
"Umm June why didn't you say you needed a healing staff," Sophie asked. "I could easily have a staff delivered to you right before we leave, well nothing to fancy at least," Sophie said to June. "Would a Heal or Mend staff be okay?" Sophie asked June. "Let me know so I can tell Ann before we leave," Sophie said to June.
"Hhhhheeeyyyy, no fair I found June first, and ooohhh that's the sweet spot right there," Catie said. "By the way June ad ad advisor is that kinda of what Sam does you k ow gii giiiive advise?" Catie asked. Catie then began to pant a little bit.
"Well Catie is on board so what about me and you June?" Sophie asked. "You know I can always be your advisor if you wanted," Sophie whispered to June. Catie looked like she wanted to growl or bark at her, but she was really enjoying her ear rub.
