Bowser Jr was very entertained with the game system and was completely engrossed with it. In between gaming sessions Bowser Jr overheard Josh talking to what looked like to Bowser Jr. a Human magikoopa about cards. "Hey Joshie if your looking for cards, i saw Mario had some funny looking cards with him," Bowser Jr. said while pulling on Joshuas sleeve to get his attention. "If you want i can swipe a card for you, taking stuff from Mario is kinda of a speciality that me and my dad have," Bowser Jr said.
"Okay, let me give this stand thing a try," Catie said as she set the sniper rifle up on the stand. Catie took a few shoots with the sniper rifle and the stand did help a bit with the recoil as the shoots were closer together and there were fewer shots that were awkward. "Hey Mr. Parker, I really like this sniper thing," Catie said with much glee. "Umm if i want to borrow one of these where can i find one," Catie asked (of course full puppy dog eyes in effect). "I can't wait to have one of these," Catie said.

Joshua waved a hand. "Thanks, but no thanks. It wouldn't really make much of a difference."

The shockwave and sphere collided mid air, creating a deafening explosion and whipping up a great wind. And when the dust settled, Ethan was gone. Everything was now in place. Knowing his opponent would use his sword's power to counter, he intentionally baited him into doing so in order to provide a smokescreen for himself, so he could both change forms and get in close without his opponent realizing it, crippling the range of his opponent's sword in the process.
Ethan was gone, and behind the human general, Azrael stood in his place, his skin as black as night, his eyes a burning gold. His swords were sheathed at his side, and twenty foot black and red wings extended from his back. His nails were like claws, and an ominous golden aura surrounded him.
"Begone."
A single clawed hand slammed into the small of the general's back with titanic force.

"GUH?!"
Alexus felt a blow to his back that launched him directly to the side of a plate of Earth uprooted from the shift in terrain. A dust cloud formed from the impact.
Hah...
The Devil Arm in his hands shimmered slightly as Alexus fell on his feet, shrugging off the pain.
"What a pest!"
Alexus swung his blade behind him to launch another large horizontal projectile as his foe. He then grasped his blade with both hands and charged directly at his target, following the projectile.

"Is that the best you can do? Pathetic. You're nothing without that sword, yet you DARE to challenge ME?!"
Two spheres of crackling black fire blazed to life in his hands, and he launched one directly at the incoming shockwave, producing a massive explosion, then launched the other at the ground, forming a towering pillar of black flame directly in front of the general's path. He then immediately conjured two more, and then another two, and another. Massive pillars of black fire shot up all around the battlefield like geysers, and combined together to form a giant firestorm. The temperature in the dome and the surrounding area skyrocketed, turning humid and oppressive, and the smoke from the flames made it hard to see and breathe... If you were normal.
Let's see just how much natural ability you have, and how much is borrowed from that sword...
Still in his demonic half-dragon form, Ethan shot up to the very top of the dome and crossed his arms, looking down at the wildfire below and waiting, his wings casually flapping to keep him afloat.

Barker waves at one of the aides, makes some signals, and points to Catie. The aide runs over with a stack of papers marked "REQUISITION FORM F-3D" on a clipboard. He starts explaining how to fill them out and the process to request weaponry while Barker gestures for Irwin to follow him to adjacent room.
"Yeah, we got armor. Plenty of armor. I doubt any of the stuff you guys brought's designed to stop a bullet. We got armor for stopping bullets, fire, explosives, blades, gas... We got light armor, full-body armor, tactical armor, Komodo armor, underwater ops armor, special backless armor for Los Angelos members..." He pushes open a door leading to a large room filled with dozens of sets of soldier's standard armor and a few sample sets of various specialty suits. An aide nervously jumps up from a seat in the corner, hastily stuffing some paper something-or-other out of sight. Barker gives him a suspicious glance. "We normally drill in full armor. Keep things as realistic as possible. If you see any you like, tell the slacker over here and he'll see if we have some in your size to try out.

Hah...
Alexus raised an arm and braced himself against the inferno his foe has conjured. Despite the intense heat being enough to humble a normal man, Alexus glared daggers at the opponent currently looking down at him.
"You...dare mock me?!" he roared. "You are nothing more than another Ephesian bug to grind beneath my heel; a stepping stone to greater glory!" Alexus thrust his devil arm into the quaking ground in front of him. "This battle has gone on long enough. Watch closely, Outlander! Prepare to witness TRUE power!"
Alexus clutched the hilt of his blade. A burst of red fire shot out from the blade, which began encircling Alexus. Cracks began to form in the platform he was on. The Devil Arm began shimmering a subtle crimson glow. The trembling of the Earth grew in magnitude.
"Bloodstained Blade, heed my words!" Chanted Alexus. More flames were conjured from the blade, creating a vortex around the legate. The blade began shaking with greater intensity as Alexus continued. "Unshackle your restraints! Submit to the unrelenting hunger! Commence the feast of blood and souls as the unworthy are sacrificed to fuel the strong! ALL SHALL SUBMIT TO US, OR BE CONDEMNED TO THE AGONY OF TARTARUS!"
Red branches began to grow outward from the crimson streak the ran through the middle of the blade, as if veins were forming in the blade. With crazed eyes, Alexus began to finish his chant; the vortex of red flame violently orbiting him.
Hah hah...
"DEVIL ARM: RIFT TO TARTARUS!"
After leaving the research room (making extra sure that Junior returned the video games and system), Joshua followed the directions given to him by Nelson (grumble, grumble) to the room where Celeste allegedly was. Maybe he can get some useful information, maybe not. Either way, it's worth a shot. These cards were stressing him out, and learning what their deal is would be exactly the kind of thing that should relieve his shoulders of some weight.
"I'll just check up on a buddy here and we'll see if your dad is willing to take you back for the day," Joshua told Junior as he knocked on the door with a plaque reading "Alchemic Study."

Using her ability to go in and out of shadow travel to move quickly and effectively, Elia first dropped out of it to damage the devices the generated the field separating the combatants from onlookers, and then she appeared again standing between both men. She sent a simple, but moderately powerful attack made of light towards Alexus that was meant only to stop his actions, and she held up one hand in a gesture to Ethan to signal for him to stop as well.
"I won't stand idly by and let there be bloodshed for such foolish reasons. What good would it accomplish for anyone if the only thing that came of this day is death?" she called out to all before focusing her attention on Ethan. "We share a goal of returning to our worlds, do we not? That should be what we strive for. How does this help either of us return to the people we hold dear? If you have an answer, I want to hear it."

Ethan's eyes softened, and his body reverted to normal as he landed next to Elia. "Forgive me, little one. I lost myself for a moment."
He turned to his opponent. "You fought well, General. It has been a long time since I last had a worthy opponent. But brute strength can only accomplish so much. A true leader must understand when and where to fight, and whom to fight, not just swing a sword. You were wrong when you called me a... "dog" of Ephesus. I hold no loyalty to that hypocritical kingdom or its Emperor. I merely wish to return home, and siding with Ephesus is the only chance I've found to do so. I have no intention of handing over Yggdrasil to them. That said, if I return with my tail between my legs after only a few hours, it will do little to help my cause. I will remain on top of the World Tree for three days. After which, the territory is yours, and I will simply say the Witch forced me to flee. There is no reason for us to fight. Is this acceptable?"

"AAARGH!"
Before Alexus could conclude his chants and release part of his blade's hidden powers, he was struck by a magic attack conjured by a companion of his foe's. Alexus dropped to his knees as the fire storming around him vanished, and his blade toppled to the ground. The blade quaked violently as the "veins" that were created began to retract back into the crimson streak. Alexus shook and coughed blood as he clutched his new wound. He breathed heavily, his vision red. After a few seconds, his blade settled -- having returned to normal -- and his vision normalized. Blood running through the hand clutching his wound, he glared up to see his foe turning to him. He listened to his offer.
"...You are as ignorant as you are foolish!" growled Alexus. "You were incapable of honoring the rules of this engagement, and yet you ask me to take your word?! I would sooner believe in children's fairy tales! I spit on your words, Outlander!" Alexus pulled himself up, grabbing his still-quaking blade's hilt with his bloodied hand. He coughed once more, before his voice lowered in tone. "I do not care of, nor sympathize with, your motivations. Whether it be by my hand, the hands of The Witch, or perhaps those of another Outlander, I promise you this: you will die in this world. Your blood will stain the earth, your spirit will vanish into oblivion, and your carcass shall rot; far from your home, in a foreign land where none know your name; vanishing from history. Alone."
The other Legionaires moved and surrounded Alexus. Alexus stabbed his sword into the Earth, creating a giant pillar of flame that engulfed him and his soldiers. As the pillar dissipated, they were already gone.
-----
On the path between Yggdrasil and the Legionaire camp, Alexus and his men appeared in another pillar of flame as the last of the veins of his blade retracted completely and the blade itself ceased quaking. Alexus hunched over slightly, grasping his wound again. He looked down at the trickling blood, then looked up at one of his soldiers. The soldier in question wordlessly nodded and stepped forward in understanding.
Alexus ran his sword through the soldier, who wordlessly allowed it to happen. Already, the wound had begun re-sealing itself.

Elia waited for nearly a minute after Alexus and his forces disappeared without saying a word or looking away. She grit her teeth and for a moment her expression revealed sadness, but then a bit of a flash appeared in her eyes and she forced herself to appear composed. Taking a step away, she slipped back into the shadow travel and retreated towards Yggdrassil.

Irving gazed awestruck at the many suits of armor on display. Not once in his poor-mercenary-boy mind did he think he'd ever get the chance to get some decent protective gear -- and for free* no less (*terms and conditions apply, probably)!
Damn, this is more than I expectin'! What to get? Underwater Ops? My ryfel doesn't even work underwater. Angelo armor? Wow, that stuff's revealing. What does this say? "Sah-muh-ray"? How do you even pronounce this other word? Is this in a different language? Screw it.
...This is Komodo armor? It looks pretty cool. But looks ain't everything. So what should I...
...It dawned on him that he didn't quite know what he was looking for.
...Okay, wait, should I do lighter armor, or medium? Lighter is what I'm used to, but... Hmm...
Irving continued thinking to himself, before deciding he could do well to hear a third party opinion. He left the room and approached the person he chose to talk to.
"Hey June," he said, tapping her on the shoulder to get her attention. "Yer a knight, right? What kind of armor would you give someone who just started out, like a recruit? I wanna get some better armor than the stuff I have now, but I don't know if I should go light or medium armor. Light's what I'm used to, but only because it's what I could afford. Medium's better protectin', but not what I'm used to. What do you think?"

"Armor? I'm no expert, but..." She walks towards the armor room as she speaks. "I started in light leather armor, as do most mercenaries in my world. Once I became a knight, I moved to light plate armor, then heavy plate... Most of our town guard just wears a breastplate, bracers, and a half-helm with a leather undershirt and leg guards, while our knights usually wear light plate. Heavy plate is generally reserved for veterans, heavy cavalry, members of the royal guard... The scale mail dress I wear now was... an accident. But the king... Erm. It's a special arrangement. Anyway, Irving, you seem similar closest to either a mercenary or an archer in my world. When they're promoted, they typically simply add a half-breastplate to their current armor, with a larger shield and greaves for heroes - though, lately some heroes have taken to adding a modified full-breastplate several joints. It's similar to scale armor, in a way, but..."
June trails off, looking at all the armor arranged in the room. "What... type of armor is this?"

Irving was going to say that he was starting to lose what she was saying during the end, only to see her trail off at seeing the armors in the room.
"I don't know either," said Irving. "I'm not an expert, but I ain't seen anything like most of these armors back in my world." He eyed the Angelo armor and the foreign-language armor in particular.

June notices Irving's interest in the samurai and Angelo armor and she looks at the Angelo armor. "Hm... This armor leaves you awfully exposed..."
"I-i-it's specially designed for Angelos," the aide explains. "So it won't stop them from using their... um... powers..."
"I see..." June moves to the samurai armor. "And this is a... lam... laminar armor? This is similar to what our experienced mercenaries wear, minus the leggings and helmet. It may be worth trying, Irving. Though you'll also need a shield and an axe..."
June looks through the array of standard-issue vests before finally picking one up and feeling it. "Oh...? Interesting... How familiar. Metal scales underneath cloth... And so light... I wonder how tough it is?"
The aide scurries over. "Oh, um... Th-that's rated to stop most small arms fire, a few shots at least, though you'll definitely feel it..." He looks at Irving. "U-u-u-ummmm did you want to try that armor?"

Wait, why would I need to use an axe and shield?
Irving felt the vest June picked out. "Hmm... if it stops shots, how about stabbin's and slashes?" Irving asked the aide. He held up his ryfel and gestured at June. "And how much would it hurt if she swung this like a club and hit me in the stomach wearing this?"

The aide scratches his head. "It, uh, yes, it can reduce the impact of blunt force trauma from a la-large weapon as well as a bullet... It would still probably hurt, but not... not anywhere near as bad. Um... It will... stop a blade from stabbing or slashing you, but... um... It's not good for the armor. It, uh, can only take so much before it won't work very well anymore, and cutting up the cover... uh... probably bad..."

Good enough.
"I'll take it," said Irving, slinging his ryfel back. "I'll take that helmet too," he said pointing to a sallet lying on an upper shelf.

"O-OK," the aide tells Irving. "Um... Let me just... Uh..." He pulls out a strip of measuring tape and walks over to Irving. "Just need to... take a few measurements here..." Horatio finally decides the best way to get some definite answers is to go straight to the source. He makes his way through the town and confidently approaches the castle's front door. One of the handful of guards steps up to bar his path. "Sorry, sir, but the castle's not having public audience today. It's probably going to be a few days before things get back to normal, at least," Delano tells him.
"I believe I've been sent for, if the rumors are to be believed?" Horatio says. He sweeps his cloak dramatically to show his unusual blade.
"That sword... you're an Outlander, then?" Delano asks. Horatio nods. "I see. We'll arrange an audience with the queen as soon as possible." Another of the guards disappears into the castle. "I believe she was meeting with another Outlander earlier, but they should be done any minute."
"Thank you." Horatio says. An awkward silence falls.
"...So, I guess I should fill you in on where you are and what's going on...?" Delano asks.
"We're in Yuelia, and you're at war with the neighboring country of Ephesia. They may be making a move on your world tree, Yggdrasil, which houses an incredibly dangerous magus known as the Witch. Things are desperate, so you called for help with a spell to call warriors from other worlds. Well, the last bit's just conjecture... But that's not something that's done lightly."
"You, uh... You've done your homework," Delano muses.
"Mm. Of course. Gathering information is the key to a successful operation."
"Right. So... um... That sword's interesting? It's so jagged... I've never seen something quite like it. Doesn't it get caught when you cut with it?"
Horatio draws his sword. "Its main use is channeling magic, not cutting. With this, someone with even the most basic schooling in magic can cast a lightning spell."
"Oh. I see... It even kind of looks like a lightning bolt."
"Somewhat."
"It's... interesting. An interesting design choice."
"I suppose."
The other guard enters the throne room and announces another Outlander's arrived.

Irving held his arms out for the aide to take measurements. "Look, but don't touch," he warned with complete earnestness.
Later in the day, Glinda sat on her throne, reading a report delivered to her from one of the non-Legionaire sergeants at Alexus's camp by Yggdrasil. She was pondering her options when a guard entered the throne room to deliver an important message.
"Another Outlander?" She said. She folded the report, conjured a small portal, and slipped the report through the void and onto a desk of sorts on the other side before closing. "Escort him here immediately. I wish to speak with them."
Joshua waited a moment before knocking on the door again.
"...Celeste? It's me. The egg smuggler."
