No, we aren't under a curse! Reyna quickly responded.

So why aren't there any men in your tribe!?

Because, they refuse to keep any males that are born into the tribe. If you have a son, you have to find someone outside of the tribe to take it...

"So it's settled then. I look forward to this voyage. I will see if I can arrange transport to the coast for tomorrow." Ezekiel packed up his papers and wandered off. invisiblecastle.com/roller/view/4698501/ - Wisdom, Intelligence, Charisma roll (in that order) for whatever I need to arrange transport.

And if you don't...?

(HHD, we won't be leaving until we're level 3, just so you know, which will be several days later in-game.)

You'll be exiled, and have no home and no family.

(Alright, but too bad Ezekiel doesn't know that. Just let him run into NPC roadblocks or something.)

So, all of the males in your "tribe" are sentenced to death, essentially. Why?

No, not death. They get a chance at what you would consider a normal life. Reyna thought indignantly, though there was also a sadness evident in her thoughts.

I wouldn't call being abandoned and left to starve normal. In fact, I'd call that infanticide, but hey, what should I know? I'm a devil-spawn! Why does your clan murder their males?

What part of 'find someone to take them' didn't you understand? We don't leave them in the middle of the jungle!

What part of exiled without food or family don't you understand? Not every child is going to find a home, and it's not like you couldn't just keep them. You don't see me throwing around babies!

No, the mother is exiled. If she cannot find a home that will take the child, she has to leave and take it with her. They're never left to starve!

And why are they left in the first place?
Morlius walked off and sat in a chair on the far side.
Look, I don't want to upset you. You seem nice, honest, pretty, and strong to boot.

It's what our clan has done for hundreds of years. The elder knows the secrets of the clan, and knows why. The question haunts me, but I can't know the answer unless I become the leader. Until then, I-...

You what?
Morlius walked back over to Reyna and sat down next to her.
What are you waiting for?

Nothing. Just forget it.
Reyna stood up and waited for a moment, then left and went to her room upstairs without saying another word, or even looking back.

That'll be hard.
Morlius too walked away and went to his rented room to sleep.

...head...throbbing...
The cool desert air swept sand through Ezekiel's hair. It was noted that said hair was on the ground, as was the rest of his body. It was an effort to pull himself upright, and the darkness did nothing to help his eyes refocus.
Alright...what happened...
"I'm telling you again! Nobody's gonna take you to the coast!"
"Just name your price. I can guarantee your safety as well, I'll bring my own escort."
"It's a matter of principle. I can't take you. And you can't buy me."
"Direct me to someone who can then. I have all night."
*sigh* "Alright look. This is nothing personal, but you're starting to bug me"
*WUMPH*
Ezekiel reached up and felt the bump on his head. Well, that was one failed charisma roll too many.
"Light."
His shirt lit up, allowing him to see in the dark. He checked his pockets. He left his valuables at the inn before he had gone out in case he actually got mugged. He had his prayer book. That's all he needed for comfort. Judging by the moon's angle, it was the middle of the night. It did feel like he had a long rest...despite the headache.
He stretched slightly and then got up, making his way to the inn. He'll keep searching in the morning.
