An enemy with Gather Power is so scary Tips: Gather Power isn't designed or balanced for enemies. If you give it to a boss the players might actually fight, then you need to give the players a chance to interrupt the Gather Power somehow or nerf it some other way. An Empowered spell will instantly drop any PC 99% of the time, since it's a free crit. A crit on an already Empowered spell will most likely outright kill a PC. It's not just scary; it's outright broken on enemies unless you tweak it. |

It's going to be her 'I'm at 25% HP, better kill me THIS TURN' ability.
You'll also probably have an NPC ally if you fight this boss. She'll really, really want that NPC dead, not so much you.
All possible bosses are done now.

.... Actually, it kinda depends on the NPC. If it's like... one of the Princesses or the High King, Greil might throw himself in front of an Empowered spell. Definitely not for the Prince. That guy's a jerk.
Or, you know, if we're dumb or unlucky enough to let that boss live long enough to get off a second Empowered spell, and Greil draws the unlucky straw, welp. Good thing Spinning Willow allows me to save against spells that target PD.
.... Also Iron Body. Wait. Greil can use Iron Body to automatically halve an Empowered spell(if it targets PD), making it only do normal damage. And then he can potentially halve it again. Or use a Ki point to make him succeed at the save to halve it again.
Greil's actually probably the best one out of the PCs to tank an Empowered spell...

And until I get another feat for Tanith's one talent that would be relevant to survival, she's probably the squishest of them all and the least able to tank an empowered spell to the face.
Really glad I put her third highest stat into CON and not DEX.

I can figure out how to work in one or two new characters. At a time. But 4 at once? Nah. Assuming only the characters that aren't already evil would join in. Which would actually be 5 of them. .... She's a good girl and doesn't deserve to be GET OVER HEREed by a double-power Burning Leash. I'm not saying Triton does deserve but meh. Josephine... probably kinda does. Of course she'd just be like 'Alright, so what's your next move? Don't get a girl excited if you're not gonna follow through.' Is also joke, Josephine isn't into that. She only gets it once per battle. And until I get another feat for Tanith's one talent that would be relevant to survival, she's probably the squishest of them all and the least able to tank an empowered spell to the face. I literally balanced things around their ability to one-shot Tanith. And then I realized she's not the squishiest. |

And yes, Triton's higher level than Lucca. Jose's higher level than Triton. Uncle Edward's higher level than Jose. And the king is, guess what? A frickin' icon, the level's the least of your worries. When designing encounters, my golden rule is "There's no I in team, but there's two I's in 'I do what I want.'" Actually the golden rule is "have fun with it but don't make it complete bull****." |
