If someone wanted to shapeshift, what magic would that fall under?

Well, we could make Circle 5 into Shape magic.
Unlike the first two circles, it doesn't do anything with life energy, but instead is the augmentation of the self and willing participants. That last stipulation helps prevent it from being transmutation of everything since non-living things cannot willingly participate.
It can't be used to revitalize like Circle 1 can, but it can mend wounds well enough.

I think Lurk said it was circle 3.

Well, Circle 3 is teleportation, so anything you can think of, though it would obviously be a lot harder and more costly to summon larger things that are further away.
However, through specific things like runic circles and what not, teleportation could be made easier.
Though, there's one thing: Teleportation doesn't grant you control over what you summon. For that, you'd need a Circle 4 magic user to take control of a creature or just have a creature already loyal to you.

Copying skills? Reflection Magick maybe. But it's a bit too specific and has no use in the case of anything out of combat.
Transformation? ...Alteration Magick? ...Mutation Magick? The ability to change aspects of living organisms? Turning animals into other animals, causing plants to become violent and carnivorous, creating gills on a human to breathe underwater...? Maybe. Thoughts?

Maybe Circle 5 could functionally be "union" magic with is on the combination or melding of objects and magic types. This could work for shapeshifting but also things like alchemy, transmutation, and metamagic.

Alternatively, for summoning, you could attempt a fusion of Type 7 and Type 1. Type 7 creates the shell with mana and Type 1 enfuses it with life. Although it would be difficult to perform on things, the larger and more complex they become. Both users would have to be quite experienced or a way to amplify Type 1's power.

The goal is to make sure the magic isn't too limited.
Transmutation as a whole category has way too much potential to really be reasonably balanced in universe.

The only advantage that the 7-1 fusion would bring over just a 7 is that a fusion of magic types would give the construct independence. A type 7 could just make the construct and animate it using their own power, but they'd have to dictate every action or possibly program very simple guidelines.

A large advantage, considering that a 7 can only control one, having to focus on it, but a 7-1 can create more than one self moving creature while still functioning separately as two different magick users. Numbers can add up in a difficult battle.
But anyway, as fun as it is to speculate cool combinations of magicks, we should decide what to do with Circle 5. I think Shape Magick is a good idea since it leaves out inanimate objects as being changeable and allows the user to control themselves along with allies. It's not quite as powerful as other magicks alone, but once you've gained a few allies, it could have some very important uses. Not to mention the non combat potential. It seems like its strengths and weaknesses balance out fine. Anyone have any objections or suggestions relating Shape Magic?

I think that's the best idea for it. It keeps some of the old Life Magic stuff but keeps it from being too general and powerful like Transmutation.

Cool. Last thing we need is a name. Or like...an add on to the name Austur so we know it isn't the same thing. Like...Austur 2: Return of the Austur. Final Austur VII. The Legend of Austur: Breath of the Austur. Y'know. Like that. But I guess I can figure that out later. I'll put together a sign up thread so we can make characters and build a world that fits them.

Well, I got the name Austur from the symbol for gold (Au), so maybe go for a different metal?

Metal...? I'd need to think of a cool metal.
...Orichalcum?

So was there a main storyline/plot decided on in the original Austur or not? If so, should we keep it? If not, should we make one? Should we not have a big plot?

As far as I know there were different arcs to Arstur and that we were working towards something.
Umm what do you guys think? Big bad that has to be stopped? Umm what do you guys think?
Evil empire? Alternate Universe with mafia ferrets? People that are trying to resurrect demons of unstoppable power? Golden portals that lead to sea otters?

Just looking at the small backstory from the sign up thread, I naturally thought about something relating to the fall of humanity. Maybe history is about to repeat itself?

Is this a reboot? Or a spin-off/sequel thing? Because I may have an idea.
