Welcome to the MEAP Experiment. Enrolment is this program is 100% voluntary, but your participation will be greatly appreciated.
You have been selected to be the owner of a MEAP, or Mobile Evolving Adaptation Pet. These fantastic little creatures are the latest breakthrough in artificial life-forms. Don't be fooled by their small floofy-bunny-kitty-puppy appearance. They have been designed to possess maximum survival abilities. Their unstable quantum-biochemistry enables them to change and adapt to any external stimulus, be it the raw elements of nature, other living creatures they may come across, or even complex pieces of technology. Recognizing the risk such creatures may pose on the world as we know it, their default minds have been set to mostly harmless Genuine Pet Personalities, by combining the neural signatures of historically domesticated peaceful organisms.
However, there is still much work to be done. Your role in this experiment will be to partner with a MEAP so that we may track its mental and physical development over its lifespan. As their default mental state will not allow for higher cognitive functioning, it will be your role to help the MEAP grow and mature. There is one limitation to this exercise: you may not be physically in the presence of the MEAP as it explores the world, as you would provide stimulus that could bias the MEAP's physical development. Instead, you will be the MEAP's intangible "spirit partner", providing guidance and companionship without a physical presence. As a small compensation, we will provide each experimenter with a small house in our world equipped with adaptation dampers, which will let you physically interact with your MEAP. But we ask that you do not spend all of your time in the house, as your MEAP will be unable to grow while inside it.
For this experiment, you will be provided with an open world full of stimuli for you to explore with your MEAP. You may even come across the MEAPs of fellow experimenters. There are no rules to what you and your MEAP can do, beyond the physical capabilities of your MEAP, of course. Creativity is of utmost importance, and will likely be its own reward.
I will now take any questions you may have.
TL;DR: MEAPs are Eevees. You will own one and explore an open-world setting, raising it however you see fit. You will not have direct control over it, but as its owner you will give suggestions, commands, and encouragement to help guide it around and navigate interactions with the world.
This is going to be an experiment for me too, since I haven't done anything with actual mechanics before, and I'm going to try that here. I probably haven't worked out all of the details yet, but I'm probably not going to except on the fly. So ask me stuff! Lots of stuff! Then we can get to playing with floofs!
A lot of this is meant to be random, which includes your MEAP's starting...everything. So for sign-ups I'll just need to know if you're in or not. You'll be able to name your MEAP and everything inside the actual game.
