Why would we even be looking for traps?

Because traps are an omnipresent force in dungeons, especially when dealing with Kobolds, bandit groups, rangers, temples, ruins, etc.
But looking for traps is Perception (which my character will have an overly massive bonus to because of high Wisdom and racial modifiers) while disabling them is Disable Device. Also, Disable Device is lock-picking, which is also an extremely valuable ability in and of itself.
Again, I can pick it up, but I won't be able to cover the magical traps bit.

Also, if you haven't picked out your traits, you can pick up Disable Device pretty easily without cost by choosing the Finding Your Kin trait (gives a bonus skill point and hit point each level).
Also, don't forget favored class bonuses, which can net you an extra skill point per level as well.
There's also the Nemesis Story Feat which gives the same benefits as the Human Exclusive Fast Learner feat (get bonus hp ad skill points for favored class bonus) except that once you complete the goal for it, you get a permanent stat boost, which can net you another skill point per level if you put it into Intelligence.

How about we whack traps with big sticks instead?

That activates most traps unless you have some specific feats or class features.
Though you can break down a lot of doors.

What if we just walk around the traps?

I spent a long while reading through the list of traps. Also reading some homebrew traps. There's a good handful that are un-walk-around-able. Of course, we can always disable traps the old-fashioned way. By throwing the wizard at it.

Sounds good to me.

A lot of traps also self-reset or are continuous, so the only way to disable them is disable device (with the Trapfinding class feature that only a few get), especially if they're magical traps that can't just be dispelled.
I'll probably take it just for non-magical traps, but I'm trying to think of a good way to justify why my character would have it.

Oh wait, I found a trait that allows me to disable magical traps, so we'll be alright.

I just realized "Ride" is a bloodrager class skill.
Mermaid on a horse???

Why not a Mermaid on a Seahorse?
Most mounts aren't that good for anything but travel. Exceptions being a Cavalier's mount, a Paladin's mount, and Animal Companion mounts since they scale with you.
But yeah, you could totally do that. You might need a special saddle though, or maybe that's only for unusual mounts.

Several traps self-reset, but most have some level of cooldown. Or could be bypassed while in operation. Plus throwing the wizard has the advantage of setting off secondary traps.

Though it also has the side effect of wasting resources on healing and recovery, especially of the trap does ability damage or poison or other long-term ailments.

You aren't... taking me seriously, are you...?

Well, we'd obviously throw in the fighter or Bloodrager since they have more HP.

Throw in the Cavalier's horse.
Loot the trap to buy a new horse.
Have two horses at any given time to avoid penalties.

Heck, why stop at 2. Let's put the cavalier on two horses for double move speed.

Awaken the Cavalier's Horse, then give it Cavalier levels so it can get it's own appropriately sized mount, and then give that mount the Racer archetype for extra speed.
