Something I realized I should probably mention, for those that read the previous version of UB. Leah's story begins several months before Trail's story does, in the timeline of things. At this point in time, the war between Midgard and Drakia hasn't started yet, though tensions are rising. All the potential main characters have their own arc, spanning a few chapters, that takes place before the main story, with everything coming together in the war and the events afterwards.
There are certain key differences to each story, and each character's story is unique. If you've played Dragon Age: Origins, think of them as "Origin Stories". Which Origin Story you choose affects the main story in unique and different ways. This is perhaps the biggest difference from the original UB. For example, in the original UB, Trail first met Leah sneaking into a Midgard fort close to the beginning of the war, if memory serves. Leah was alone then. Now, however, when you reach that part in the story, Leah will have several allies and comrades, and that is where Leah's Origin Story will end. Now, however, instead of Trail meeting Leah alone, because you didn't choose Trail's Origin Story, it will be Kanis leading Drakia's armies instead of him. Trail will still be in his forest.
So there are lots of key differences.

No, choosing someone else's story didn't kill Kanis. One of the many things I've changed from the original.

Yes, the Snow Leopard twins are alive and well. You're going to meet Cleo in just a little bit.

Let's see oh yeah we should go to that place Cave of Ordeals. The place we have to go in order not to get the bad ending yeah let's go there next.

Also, the members of the Culture are mostly unchanged, though I did change a lot of stuff involving them. And I made the Prophet- giant shadow thing the Culture tried to free- much more of a background figure than he was in the original.
Some other big changes worth noting: Time Gears, Sidequests, all that stuff, all gone. I came to the realization that the original UB was actually more like a Tabletop adventure, than a FE game. This version is more obviously rooted in Fire Emblem. You'll still have some important stuff in the form of Gaiden Chapters, but don't expect to be wandering all over the map doing dozens of sidequests like before.
... Huh. You know what? UB would actually make a good tabletop campaign. Actually, a Fire Emblem campaign in general would be really fun.

Oh, and yes, there will still be 2nd gen characters and Paralogues. Important characters like Idoun, who are optional and not directly tied to the main story, will have their own Paralogues.

The Aeva-Idoun type of riding, not Aeva-Val.

So, are there any other divergences beyond what's stated in the OP? So far it seems like pairings will be different. I've grown rather attached to Trail/Kanis. It's already archived as "canon" in UB's canon to me. Oh well.
Looks like it will be Leah/Trail this time. I really wanted to go with Thorn this time around for MC but I was too late. Oh well.

Trail/Kanis will always be the canon pairing to me. That pairing will always have a special place in my heart.
Most of the divergences/differences are stated in the OP, but there may be others that I just haven't thought of.
