I vote A BC of safety in numbers. Have our main character chat with a few ladies to see how it turns out and go from there

Nice, I got a tiebreaker without even realizing it haha. I meant to update a few days ago, but Fire Emblem Awakening distracted me. A wins so let's resume the story:
Hmm, I think I better go with her. It's too dangerous to be gallivanting around the mall without help. Trent's conscience got the better of him once again as he spoke up, "Hold on a minute, Jessie. It's dangerous for you to be going out there alone. How about I come with you?" He offered his assistance after entering the ventilation area, hoping the agent would accept his offer. "You're serious?" Jessie asked in a surprised voice, casting Trent a curious glance over her shoulder. "Totally, I'd hate to see you get hurt just because I was too lazy to go with you. Plus I have experience actually fighting the zombies, it might come in handy." Trent replied, feeling rather cocky at the moment. "Damn, Brad will hate the fact I'm bringing a civilian along, but there's safety in numbers. Fine Trent, you can come, but stay behind me and do exactly as I say." Jessie instructed as though she would be leading the way. "Whatever you say, boss." Trent chuckled, allowing her to take the lead for now. "Hold on a sec. You might be wanting these." The old man who welded the room shut previously finally spoke after remaining silent for so long. "I tried to give a set to your friend, but he ran off without listening. Name's Otis, pleasure to meet ya." He offered Trent and Jessie a set of yellow transceiver radios and a map of the Willamette Parkview Mall.
"These transceivers might actually wok. Something's been jamming our communications with the outside, but short range communications are a different story. Thanks Otis." Jessie's expression brightened considerably at being able communicate with one another, thanking Otis with a simple hug. "Just be careful out there." He waved them off to return to his chair by the welded door, opening an aged newspaper that had seen better days. "Alright, time to go." She told Trent, climbing into the vent without another word. He followed the blonde woman closely, enjoying the view of her ample...assets from within the confines of the vent. They emerged a few minutes later onto a desolate rooftop beaten down upon by the morning sun. "Man, you'd think it'd be cooler this time of year." Jessie remarked on the unusual heat wave afflicting the Colorado town. "It definitely doesn't help the scent situation. These zombies smell terrible, even all the way up here." Trent held his nose after touching upon the repulsive smell the legions of undead released. "Let's head down to...it looks like this elevator leads to a warehouse." Jessie said after examining the map Otis gave them. "Fine by me." Trent followed her to the elevator and down into the warehouse, remaining silent most of the way as tension mounted within both of them. The doors of elevator chimed open and let them out into a massive storage area lined with shelves of merchandise. "Oh s***!" Trent cursed as the doors also let a duo of zombies barge into the cramped space, separating him from Jessie. "Get down Trent!" She warned as she aimed her handgun at the first zombie. A quick pull of the trigger put a bullet in its brain, painting the wall behind it a dark shade of red. "I've got this one." Trent stated after watching Jessie execute the first zombie. He grabbed the ghoul's left leg and gave it a hard tug, taking it to the ground in one fell swoop. It proved more tenacious than the zombie's he faced previously though, quickly lashing out to grab hold of him. God damn it! It locked its hands onto Trent's shoulders and dragged him in for a taste of his flesh, but Jessie intervened. She pressed her handgun to the zombie's temple and pull the trigger, slaying it just inches from Trent's neck.
"That was too close, we need to be more careful." Jessie wiped a small bit of sweat from her brow, visibly disheartened at so close at a call immediately after leaving the security room. "It was my fault, I got cocky and made a stupid move. It won't happen again." Trent reassured her before they set off in search of Brad once again. They navigated through a winding path among the warehouse's shelves, pressing onward to Paradise Plaza. A pair of stray objects caught Trent's eye on the way however. A lead pipe and machete were carelessly left lying on the floor for anyone to take. One of these might come in handy...
Trent Reddick
Health: 95%
Stamina: 100%
Inventory: Baseball bat (80%)
Entourage: Jessica McCarney: 100% health, 9mm handgun (10/24)
Current time: 10:45 am
Approval:
Arianna Celeste: 42% Acquaintance
Kimberly Wiese: 42% Acquaintance
Jessica McCarney: 29% Acquaintance
Brad Garrison: 30% Acquaintance
Frank West: 30% Acquaintance
Trent will need a spare weapon to use, choose wisely:
A) Take the lead pipe, it's about two and a half feet in length with a matching L cap at the end. It's hefty and would do significant damage to a zombie, but it might be redundant alongside Trent's baseball bat. It could also double as a handy tool should they require something akin to a crowbar though.
B) Take the machete, it's blade is brand new and a foot and a half in length. It could easily slice through zombified flesh, and it would pair nicely with his baseball bat to cover two types of weaponry. It's uses are limited mainly to combat however.
Good job on accompany Jessie, she would have been injured in the elevator otherwise...

Might as well update while I've got the urge to write. The machete beckoned Trent to take it in hand, its bladed edge calling to him. He retrieved the weapon and found it handled to his liking. Lightweight yet sturdy and sharp enough to draw blood as he ran his finger across it. This'll work. He stowed the machete in a makeshift holster consisting of a bit of rope left nearby and an empty belt loop, marking the first true addition to his zombie slaying arsenal. He caught up to Jessie as they made their way down a long hallway, turning the corner to a lone door way marked EXIT in large red letters. "So according to the map, we need to go through Paradise Plaza, cut through Leisure Park since the cages are still down and blocking the Entrance Plaza, and follow the southern wall to the Food Court. That's where Brad is." Jessie paraphrased the path their journey would be taking, sounding rather daunting to Trent since she said it out loud. "That's all? And here I though this would take a while." He quipped to lighten the mood, though he couldn't hep but gulp as Jessie opened the door to the plaza. She entered the consumer oriented area first, followed closely by Trent. He found the area rather charming the first time he saw it, small pools of water dotted the ground floor for decoration and a fifteen foot stream ran from in front of a children's toy store all the way to the doors that lead to Leisure Park. The plaza lacked its previous tranquility however, now swarmed with the legions of the undead. "Damn, there's so many..." Trent muttered after seeing first hand how many zombies they would be facing from then on out. He estimated there must have been close to a hundred zombies in the plaza alone, possibly even more in a hallway that lead to the back end stores and on the second floor along the eastern portion of the plaza. "Come on, we're sitting ducks if we keep standing here." Jessie remarked, doing a good job of hiding her own apprehensions. They didn't waste any time charging through the droves of wandering ghouls, keeping their distance whenever possible to conserve time and energy. Luckily for them, these particular varieties of zombies sometimes lacked even basic motor skills, preoccupied with the air in front of them as the pair raced toward the park. They nearly emerged from this leg of their journey unscathed, but a lone zombie almost prevented this. Jessie wasn't watching as she attempted to skirt by a zombie staring into a music store, seemingly amused by its own reflection in the glass. She stepped a bit too heavily, the noise attracting the attention of the zombie. It moaned quietly and turned toward her, intercepting her before she could evade it. "Waah!" She cried, pulling her handgun up to defend herself. "Don't!" Trent warned as ensuing gunshot would bring the the entirety of the undead upon them. He drew his machete and thrust it into the bottom of the zombie's skull, its attention still focused on Jessie. He pulled the blade from its chin as the lifeless corpse fell to the floor, a silent kill rather than the cacophony Jessie would have ignited. "Thanks, that was too close." She told Trent, flashing him a grateful half smile. "No problem, let's keep moving." He replied while sheathing his machete once more. They made it to the park in short order after the incident, glad to be ever closer to their destination. "S***! There's even more of them out here!" Trent cursed upon seeing even more zombies roaming the grounds. "Either way, we're almost there. This way." Jessie lead them along the southern wall, sticking as to the bricks as possible to avoid any wandering undead. They avoided the zombies in their entirety this time, making it to the Food Court a short time later. "Alright, we'll need to break for cover as soon as we go in there if whoever was shooting at Brad is still armed." Jessie instructed, filling Trent with an entirely different sense of dread. Damn, I hadn't considered we'd be shot at. Maybe I should've thought this through a little more... "...did you hear me? Trent?!" Jessie snapped, irritated by his wandering thoughts. "Yeah, yeah, make a break and don't get shot. I got it." He replied in a snarky tone. "It's now or never...let's go!" Jessie stated as she opened one of the double glass doors. The Food Court was silent at first glance, but as soon as they entered, gunfire blazed and revealed the hostile man's location. He fired from atop a western themed decoration that overlooked their position. His vantage point offered a superior position, forcing them to duck into cover immediately. "That didn't go too well." Trent japed as he and Jessie ducked on a set of stairs leading to a hibachi style pavilion. Jessie remained quiet, waiting for a lull in the firing to proceed. Whoever was shooting at them took a moment reload, affording them an opportunity to move up. Jessie guided Trent forward, where they found Brad ducked behind a waist high wall lined with potted plants. "Brad! I'm here to back you up." Jessie told her partner. "And you brought along a civilian?! I told you to stay-Look, we'll talk about this later. This situation is more delicate than ever now, he's got hostages up there!" Brad revealed the true extent of their predicament, something Trent and Jessie weren't able to see from back in the Security Room. Daring to look, Trent glanced over the wall to see Brad was indeed correct. The man firing at them bore a striking resemblance to Isabela, the woman he first saw in the Entrance Plaza. He was even dressed in similar garb, most likely he was a brother or relative of the Hispanic woman. Great, looks like I had the pleasure of introducing myself to a lunatic's sister. Trent ducked for cover as another wave of bullets pelted their position, keeping them pinned down. "Keep hiding like the cowardly American scum that you are, it's all you are good for!" He taunted in a heavy accent, confirming at the least his relation to Isabela. He was armed with a P90 sub machine gun and plenty of ammo, enough to fire haphazardly from time to time. Trent risked looking yet again to see if he could catch sight of the hostages. It didn't take much as the man was possessed of an insane bravado, his captives displayed behind him in a show of power. The first hostage was a blonde woman clad in a skin tight leather suit with its front unzipped all the way to her navel. Orange stripes ran along the undersides of the suit's arms and the outside of its thighs, giving it the appearance of a wet suit. Her hair was rather long and luscious, managing to block her eyes as the woman fought against her restraints. Her hair hid her expression, but Trent could tell she was either angered at her captor or feared for her life. Her arms were bound by several coils of rope and her mouth was gagged with large piece of duck tape, effectively limiting her mobility. (Quick picture of the first hostage: img2.wikia.nocookie.net/__cb20120427184205/residentevil/images/a/af/Scan25.jpeg ) His other captive was yet another attractive woman in a gray tank top and jeans, a brown belt wrapped around her waist. Shoulder length brown hair flowed as she struggled against her own bindings, her visible expression was one of fright. (And the other woman: s430.photobucket.com/user/leungjon/media/Denise.jpg.html?t=1251824506 ) Aw hell, they're both right behind him and in the way if Brad fires back. Now I see why it's a stalemate. "So what's the plan?" Jessie asked of Brad, wanting to contribute now that she was at his side. "I'm still thinking, he has the high ground and more firepower. But he's lacking our numbers." Brad gazed at Trent, a possible plan forming. "What do you have in mind?" Trent asked, curious as to what the agent may be concocting. "I saw you in action before Trent, you're fast. If Jessie and I can draw his fire, do you think you can sneak around and take him from behind? I saw a stack of barrels around there you can use to climb up." Brad explained the gist of his plan in short order just as their foe ended his barrage of lead. "Sounds pretty solid." Trent replied, but he perhaps he would be better off devising his own plan. Trent Reddick Health: 95% Stamina: 100% Inventory: Baseball bat (80%), Machete (98%) Entourage: Jessica McCarney: 100% health, 9mm handgun (10/24) Brad Garrison: 100% health, 9mm handgun (5/36) Current time: 10:58 am Approval: Arianna Celeste: 42% Acquaintance Kimberly Wiese: 42% Acquaintance Jessica McCarney: 31% Acquaintance (Slight increase from assisting with the zombie) Brad Garrison: 28% Acquaintance (Slight loss from going against regulation with Jessie) Frank West: 30% Acquaintance A) Go along with Brad's plan, it's solid enough and Trent is the best candidate for closing the ground to their assailant. He'll need to be careful not to be spotted though, there's no telling what the man might do to his hostages if Trent is spotted. (75% chance of success) B) Offer an alternative plan, Brad should and Jessie should both open fire while Trent draws the attention of a group of zombies from Wonderland Plaza. Its entrance is simply an open arch that would allow the undead easy access to the Food Court. (68% chance of success, less likely chance of Trent being injured or the hostages being harmed) C) Tell Brad he should be the one to charge the gunman, it's not Trent's duty to put himself directly in harm's way. He can try to distract the man another way while Jessie fires alongside him. (50% chance of success, least likely chance of Trent being injured) For the second choice, should Trent ask for Jessie's handgun: 1) Ask Jessie to lend him her handgun, Trent will have a better chance of performing his action with a firearm though it will leave Jessie without a weapon. (+10% chance of success to A or B) 2) Allow Jessie to keep her handgun, Trent is a horrible shot anyway and might be more of a danger to himself with his terrible aim Choose wisely here, depending on the choice made it might not be possible to rescue both hostages... For reference, here are the hostages: Blonde hostage: img2.wikia.nocookie.net/__cb20120427184205/residentevil/images/a/af/Scan25.jpegBrown haired hostage: s430.photobucket.com/user/leungjon/media/Denise.jpg.html?t=1251824506

So I've decided to extend the choices since it looks like A will win out. I need y'all to decide which hostage Trent will attempt to rescue if he makes it up to the gunman.
D) The blonde hostage, she seems determined to escape her imprisonment so perhaps Trent can help her. She is further away than the other woman so it would be harder to rescue, but Trent has to try something. (60% chance with handgun, 50% chance without handgun)
E) The brown haired woman, she seems much more frightened by the situation than the other hostage. She's closer than the other woman so it would be easier to help her. (70% chance with handgun, 60% chance without handgun)
F) Attempt to free both hostages in one fell swoop, it will be much more difficult than saving one of them individually, but Trent can't bring himself to choose one over the other. (34% chance with hangun, 25% chance without handgun)

"Alright, I'm game whenever you're ready." Trent told Brad despite his rather raw nerves. He reluctantly looked at Jessie before Brad could signal him to run, asking her, "Jessie, I was thinking.....I'd have a better chance at this if I had a firearm. I'm not the best shot, but it could be a handy distraction when I get close enough." Jessie bit her bottom lip as Brad continued to wait for the proper time to act. "Yeah, it's for the best. Just make sure to get it back to me." She replied, just as hesitant as Trent to loan her handgun. (Passed Approval check!) "Thanks, I'll put it to good use." He nodded at the blonde agent before moving into propping himself forward on the balls of his feet. The waist high wall was cold against his back as Trent awaited Brad's signal. "Okay, since you have Jessie's gun, I'll draw his fire so you can get behind the food stand. Jessie, stay low and do NOT expose yourself. I mean it." Brad ordered, enunciating Jessie's portion of the statement. "I know Brad, just hurry up. This guy doesn't seem like he's willing to wait much longer." She retorted. Brad nodded begrudgingly in response, motioning for Trent to keep an eye on him. Almost time, you got this Trent... Brad raised three fingers to begin his countdown, stealing a glance overhead to make sure it was safe. Their foe was still continuing his tirade about the futility of American capitalism and the complacency of its citizens, offering them ample time to conduct their plan. As Brad's last finger fell, he raised his gun and opened fire on the terrorist. Trent took the opportunity to slide past Brad and dart toward the center of the Food Court, doing his best to avoid being seen. After safely making it across the firing zone, Trent glued himself to a nearby wall as his heart pounded, waiting for an inevitable shout from above. To his amazement, he hadn't been spotted after the daring act. Damn, I'd rather not do something like that again for a while. The gunshots were much louder up close however, causing Trent to cover his ears as he searched for a path up. He searching was answered in the form of the stack of barrels Brad had mentioned. Taking careful consideration not to tip them over, Trent climbed the unsteady stack, the barrels wobbling all the while. He made it to the top barrel and jumped for the intended ledge. The barrel fell from under him as Trent hoisted himself up, finally revealing his location. "Better make this quick then..." He muttered to himself while trying to prepare for what lied ahead. "Who's up here? Show yourself or I'll put a bullet in one of their brains." The man threatened as Trent took cover around the corner. He saw the man grab the blonde hostage and position her in front of him, her words of protest muffled by the gag. "Hey man, take it easy. We don't have to do this." Trent said calmly, tucking Jessie's handgun into the back of his pants as a precaution. "That's not the first time I've heard such an offer from an American. Now step out and show yourself. I'm not going to ask again." He snapped, stepping far enough back that Brad couldn't line up a clear shot. S***, I guess I better do what he says. I'm starting to have second thoughts about coming up here... With a heavy sigh Trent stepped out from cover with his hands in the air. His machete bounced at his waist, it blade useless in the current situation. "That's better, now we can have a friendly face to face. Come close, I'd like to get a better look at you." The man said in a more friendly tone, perhaps in an attempt to disarm Trent's guard. "Whatever you say pal, I'm coming." He obliged the man and took two steps forward, creating a distance of close to four feet between them. He pushed his hostage forward while leaving the other woman on the ground behind him, digging the barrel of his gun into her back. The blonde woman stepped forward hesitantly, her eyes still shrouded behind her lion's mane of hair. Her captor then made the mistake of looking away, possibly trying to catch a glimpse of Brad and Jessie below. She took the opportunity to headbutt him with the back of her head, sending him reeling as blood dripped from his nose. She nodded at Trent to act, dropping to the ground to remove herself from danger. Trent immediately drew the handgun and fired two shots at the man as he charged, shooting wide and nowhere near his target. His terrible accuracy wasn't a factor this time though, the shots serving more as a distraction than an actual offense. The man ducked to avoid the shots as Trent tackled him to the ground, trying to hit his weapon away in the process. "Bastardo!" He cursed, fighting with Trent as the two men were locked in struggle. "Just let go!" Trent shouted, but they reached a stalemate for short time as neither could wrest the machine gun from the other. "Pendejo, I didn't want to have to use this..." He barked at Trent before revealing a syringe and stabbing Trent in the neck. The liquid within the needle was dark and almost inhuman, draining swiftly as it was injected into the young man. "Gah!" Trent shouted in pain, releasing the gun and crumpling to the ground in agony. His neck burned at the spot of injection, a crippling pain spreading slowly throughout his body. With at least one threat incapacitated, the man turned his attention back to his adversaries below. Brad had no idea what had happened as he and Jessie were in cover the entire time. The agent made the mistake of raising his head and exposing himself at the wrong time. "This is for Santa Cabeza!" The Hispanic man screamed as he riddled Brad with bullets, murdering the senior agent in cold blood. "Brad! NO!" Jessie screamed in terror, keeping her head low until the shooting finally ceased. When all was said and done, Brad laid face up in a pool of his own blood, a bewildered expression on his face. "He won't be bothering us any...Un-ungh..." The man attempted to gloat, but left himself completely vulnerable in doing so. Trent fought through his pain long enough to stab his foe in the stomach with his machete. His expression twisted in a mixture of pain and acknowledgement, not exactly the look Trent was expecting. "I'm impressed, you might actually prove useful to us.. Damn it, guess it's time to check out." He continued to speak despite blood dribbling from his midsection. With the strength of a man possessed, he kicked Trent away, whose grip on the blade wrenched it free as well. Leaving his hostages behind, he ran toward a wire running up to the Food Court's ceiling and shot the secondary wire attached to a sandbag, sending his flying into the rafters and disappearing in the darkness. What did he inject me with? The pain's subsiding, but I feel like I can barely move. Despite his aching muscles and body, Trent fought to rise to his feet, machete still in hand. He saw Brad's body below as well as a weeping Jessie cradling her dead partner's head, questioning why he had to be a hero. "Brad..." Trent whispered the man's name, allowing him a moment of silence before setting about the task of freeing the two hostages. He cut the restraints on the woman in the tank top first and moved onto the blonde woman next. Unfortunately Trent's location on higher ground left him unable to defend Jessie as a roving horde of zombies suddenly found their way onto the floor. "Oh s***! Jessie run!" He shouted while still slicing through the blonde woman's ropes. They were secured much more tightly than her companion's. Jessie was reluctant to leave Brad's corpse, but she took his handgun as both a memento and weapon before fleeing toward Wonderland Plaza. "What the hell is with these ropes?!" Trent exclaimed until he was finally able to cut through the last strand. "Thanks, they were starting to cut into my arms." The woman thanked Trent as he helped her up. "That was too much. I'm sorry about your friend." The other woman said mournfully, glancing at Brad's body over the rail. "He knew the risks more than any of us. We don't have time to chat though, I need to get to Jessie before..." Trent hesitated to say before she ended up like Brad, feeling it was too insensitive to state. "Guess we better get the formalities out of the way then. I'm Rachel Zane." The blonde woman extended a hand for Trent to shake, knowing they'll need to communicate on a first name basis to handle the coming situation effectively. "Maria Flores, nice to meet you." The other woman did the same, a kind smile adorning her face in the meantime. "I'll hold onto this, I'm a pretty good shot if I do say so myself." Rachel told the others as she retrieved Trent's handgun, examining the firearm as she did so. It was obvious these two were eager to assist, but Trent didn't know if heading off deeper into the mall with both of them to find Jessie was such a good idea. I don't know if I'd be able to live with myself if something happened to them AND Jessie. But taking them back to the Security Room would take a good chunk of time...Trent Reddick Health: 90% (Sore from the substance Trent was injected with) Stamina: 92% (Will slowly drain until he rests due to what he was injected with) Inventory: Baseball bat (80%), Machete (98%) Entourage: Rachel Zane: 100% health, 9mm handgun (10/24) Maria Flores: 100% health, Nothing Combat Capabilities: Trent: Dazed and sore, he can still hold his own against pair of zombie, but anymore than that could pose a threat at the moment. Rachel: A steady shot and has basic knowledge of hand to hand combat, she can easily handle a few zombies by herself. Maria: Not much for combat, she should be watched closely to ensure her safety. Current time: 11:15 am Approval: Arianna Celeste: 42% Acquaintance Kimberly Wiese: 42% Acquaintance Jessica McCarney: 31% Acquaintance Brad Garrison: DEAD Frank West: 30% Acquaintance Rachel Zane: 38% Acquaintance Maria Santos: 34% Acquaintance A) Take Maria and Rachel along to assist Jessie, Trent will bring them along so as to not waste any time in reaching Jessie. The horde below them has nearly passed so getting into Wonderland Plaza won't be an issue, but once they do reach it is a different story. (30% chance of Jessie being in danger) B) Guide Maria and Rachel back to the Security Room, Trent can't risk bringing them along while so ill equipped. Hopefully Jessie can hold out long enough for him to get to the Security Room and back... (55% chance of Jessie being in danger) Z) CYOA So here's a few extra tidbits for this update. If anyone needs it, here's a map of Willamette: img3.wikia.nocookie.net/__cb20111015163702/deadrising/images/d/d4/Dead_rising_mall_map.jpg .For reference, they are currently in the Food Court possibly heading into Wonderland Plaza or back through Leisure park to the Security Room. The combat capabilities is a new section I'll use to highlight each character's current status as well as any changes in how well they can currently handle the zombie menace. Finally, the CYOA choice is basically you suggest a course of action and I'll tell if it's applicable or not as well as the corresponding percentages that will result from it. So how are y'all liking the story so far? I know it's early, but I could use some feedback to adjust it as necessary.

I think I'll go with Z: Give Maria the machete so she has something to defend herself with, and have she and Rachel remain where they are while Trent goes after Jessie. They seem to be put of the reach of any zombies so I assume they should be safe there for a time.

It seems like a good story so far then again zombie survival horrors have a soft place in my heart ever since resident evil 2. Keep up the good work though, and I look forward for more posts.

Thanks Mr X, glad to hear it. And actually since both Dead Rising & Resident Evil are made by Capcom, there may be some crossover elements to the story. 0_o
That's a sound suggestion Bastion, but there was a reason leaving them behind wasn't originally a choice. There'a going to be a familiar group in Leisure Park soon, you'll know who I mean if you've played Dead Rising. You can leave your vote as is, but the chance of danger for Rachel and Maria would be 70% at a minimum.
