Willamette. A place that seemed to be forgotten by time, perpetually stuck in the year 2006. Its monolithic mall dominated the commerce of the town, acting as its star attraction to tourists. Trent still wasn't sure why he chose Willamette, Colorado of all places for his vacation, but he did and he regretted every minute of it. He was in the Entrance Plaza when the zombie menace struck. Total chaos had descended upon the mall's occupants as the undead devoured everyone in their path. He wound up trapped within the mall along with dozens of other patrons, although their numbers had dwindled down to less than a dozen. At some point throughout the day, a lockdown had been triggered somehow and stranded him within the Entrance Plaza along with other survivors.
Despite shutters having blocked every access point into the plaza, zombies had still managed to break through the outer doors from the parking lot. They were packed against the glass doors and remaining shutter extremely tightly, appearing as though it would give way any moment. Some of the older men had begun to reinforce the barricade with various objects from around the plaza, but Trent knew it would do no good. Poor bastards are in denial. We should be trying to find a way out of here, not making a buffet out of ourselves.
Trent Reddick
Health: 100%
Stamina: 100%
Inventory: Nothing
Entourage: Nobody
Current time: 10:00 am
A) Help construct the barricade, despite its futility it will allow Trent to stay busy instead of brooding on the current predicament.
B) Explore the plaza for anything useful, Trent doesn'tt feel comfortable without a weapon and he could always use a snack for later.
C) Strike up a conversation with one of the other survivors, perhaps socializing a bit will help to take the edge off everything that's happened.
D) Stay where he is for the time being, Trent's place near the rear of the plaza affords him a vantage point to observe everything that may happen.
E) Head up the stairs to the second floor, Trent is unsure if anybody or anything is even up there but it beats just standing around.
F) A suspicious looking beauty is examining the plaza nearby, perhaps Trent should introduce himself and see if she would like to chat.
Just a quick rundown of the status, the character name is whose perspective the story is being written from at the moment, and his stamina is how well he'll be able to perform the actions of the story. A higher stamina means a better ability to avoid zombies, more capability in a fight, and a lot more.

Might as well enjoy the company here. Trent took a moment to fix his moppy head of hair although it never did much good. His usual attire of a black windbreaker and a pair of loose fitting jeans with black sneakers was practical enough for a zombie apocalypse, but it didn't give him much in the way of confidence with the ladies. Luckily, Trent was as cocky as they come so it would be a simple matter to introduce himself to this exotic woman. Standing upright, he marched toward the Hispanic woman with an air of confidence. "Crazy weather we're having, huh? Who would have thought zombies actually exist." He said to break the ice. "Not as surprising as you might think. They say anything is possible in the land of opportunity." She replied cryptically, intriguing Trent with her response. "Well, I guess that's one way of looking at it. I can say with certainty I never thought I'd see the dead walking the earth." He quipped even if it was a lie. Trent had a bit of a hobby in planning for the zombie apocalypse although being trapped in a giant shopping mall had never been on his list of preparations. Gotta make due with what you've got. He glanced over at the woman and got a good look at her for the first time. She was very attractive and had striking hazel eyes. Her hair was a shimmering jet black and hung in straight strands past her shoulders. She was certainly curvaceous as her outfit accentuated her form. Her shirt was white and had pink frills at various lines, a fashion that was most foreign to Trent. Form fitting black pants and open toed sandals complete her ensemble. (Here's a picture of her for anyone that's never played Dead Rising: img4.wikia.nocookie.net/__cb20100628025007/deadrising/images/5/5c/IsabelaFB.jpg ) "Staring, are we?" She remarked, catching Trent staring out of the corner of her eye. "Um, sorry about that. Not much to look at around here aside from the zombies and working old men." Trent chuckled, averting his gaze. "I suppose you're right. You're the first one who's worked up the nerve to talk to me. I've seen the others stealing looks when they think I'm not aware. Isabela Keyes, nice to meet you." The Hispanic woman introduced herself and extended a hand toward Trent. "Trent Reddick, I just got lucky was all. I was in the area and thought you could use some company." Trent shook her hand and couldn't help but note how soft her skin was. Alright Trent, you're bordering on creeper now. "Well Trent, this has been fun, but I have business to take care of. Perhaps I'll see you around." Isabela stated as she headed toward an isolated corner of the plaza, leaving Trent to his own devices. He was about to pursue her, but the zombies had a different agenda. "Madonna, where's my baby?!" An old woman cried throughout the plaza, searching for her lost poodle. A faint bark emanated from outside with the zombies. Somehow, the poodle had made its way outside with the zombies and was barking ferociously at them. "My baby!" The old woman cried, charging the barricade with reckless abandon. "Hey wait!" "You can't go out there!" People cried as she approached. With the strength of ten men she bowled her way past two older men twice her size and threw the doors to the plaza open, allowing the zombies to swarm in. Though their pace was staggered, the horde overcame anyone unlucky enough to be close to the doors. People screamed in terror as they were torn limb from limb, a number of survivors already eliminated. "Oh s***!" Trent lost a bit of bravado now that he was staring down a wave of zombies, but he held his composure. "Up here! Come on!" A voice rang out from above. Looking up, Trent saw an African American man in a white shirt and brown slacks waving for people to follow him to the second floor. Unfortunately, a mob of a hundred zombies or more lied between Trent at the stairs. Oh hell, this figures. He looked around for a weapon but noticed one of the shutters to another plaza had been raised. Did Isabela do that? Survivors around him continued to scream as they fled or fought for their lives, more than a few of whom were close enough for him to assist. He was left with a few choices at this point, but he had to act quickly. Trent Reddick Health: 100% Stamina: 100% Inventory: Nothing Entourage: Nobody Current time: 10:00 am A) Grab a weapon and fight his way to the stairs, Trent is confident he can dispatch of a few zombies, but it will be a hell of a task to wade through the sea of undead before him. B) Head through the open doors in pursuit of Isabela, Trent might be better off taking his chances and following her rather than fighting so many zombies at once. C) Try to assist some of the survivors nearby, Trent can grab a weapon from the pile of supplies to his right and offer them aid. One of them is an attractive young woman who might be grateful to him for doing such.

B. Dying to try to save the walking dead is a bad idea.
Also, the name of the comic, game, an television series Walking Dead both refers to the zombies and the survivors.

Damn it, this is a great time to have a conscience. Trent cursed his good nature as it got the better of him in this case. He dashed to the right and grabbed a baseball bat from the pile of supplies, glancing back to see how the other survivors might be faring. A man had already been bitten and was bleeding out amid a trio of zombies, and another woman had her neck broken by a vicious assault from behind. "S***!" Trent cursed as only a few people remained alive. His first and only attempt at rescue would be to aid a young woman in a black jacket with her back to the wall. "Get back!" She shouted at an encroaching zombie, the remark more for her own comfort than a command to the zombie. She was unarmed and in no position to defend herself, but luckily Trent was. He sprinted toward the zombie and cracked it across its right temple, sending it staggering from the blow. He followed up with a vicious swing directly at its face, a loud crack and splatters of blood signifying Trent's first zombie kill. "Hell yeah!" He exclaimed, elated from the milestone. "Come on! We have to get to the second floor!" Trent told the woman, but she was reluctant to come along. "I have to find my friend, she's around here somewhere." She told him as a quartet of the undead began getting too close for comfort. "Around here where? There's nowh-" A cry for help interrupted Trent's remark and confirmed the woman's fears. "Kimberly's over there!" She called to Trent, pointing toward a bookstore with a growing number of ghouls in front of it. "Damn it. Come on." He pulled the young woman along as he ran to aid her friend, keeping his head low to avoid the random swings of the occasional zombie. They reached the crowd in short order, but it would be difficult to fight his way through so many at once. "I've got an idea. How fast can you run?" Trent asked the woman as time was running out. "What? Why?" She answered in confusion. "Because you'll need to distract some of the zombies so I can reach your friend." Trent told her in a playful tone before enacting his plan. "Hey, got a nice meal for you over here!" He shouted to gather the attention of as many zombies as possible. Several of them took the bait and began shambling in their direction. "You're on." He said before sprinting around the outskirts of the crowd, leaving the woman to flee for her life. Alright, I've only got one shot at this. I have to make it count. As the time to act drew near, Trent took a deep breath. He was a skilled parkourist who spent most of his free time practicing in his home city of Austin, Texas. He was about to put his skills to the test in a situation he never could have foreseen. Pumping his legs as fast as he could, he jumped toward the wall and kicked off in the other woman's direction, propelling him over the mob of ghouls that stood in his way. He wasn't able to clear their heads, but he did succeed in knocking over enough zombies to clear a path, their stumbling creating a comical domino effect that left close to ten zombies on the floor clawing at the air. "Ready to go? Your friend said you needed help." He said to the woman as he rolled to a halt. "Arianna's okay?" Was her retort, rather warming Trent's heart to see the friends care so much about one another. "She's fine, but we need to get going." Before she could reply, he grabbed her hand and pulled her after him. They trudged through the path Trent had cleared and emerged unscathed in a rather fortuitous turn of events. Trent caught sight of Arianna still fleeing from the zombies, outpacing them for now. "Arianna! Over here!" Trent yelled at the other woman with Kimberly in tow. She heard his shouts and made her way to them, avoiding a crawling zombie that nearly grabbed hold of her ankle. Before the two friends could celebrate reuniting, Trent guided them along the Eastern wall of the plaza to the stairs. Most of the zombies had converged on the center and rear of the plaza by that point to feast on the plethora of fresh corpses that lined the ground. The trio hurried up the stairs, stopping to catch their breath only once they reached the top. "Damn, that was too much." Trent blurted in between pants. "You saved both of us." Arianna said in disbelief, having stared death in the face only minutes before. "Let's not do that again anytime soon though." Kimberly added, garnering a chuckle from Trent and Kimberly. "Glad to see you're alright. Looks like you're that the last ones that made." A new voice said from behind Trent. The man from before was standing with two other people, only one of whom looked familiar. His face was older and stern but friendly, possessing a rather official air about him. "Yeah, we're all that's left." Kimberly stated somberly. Now that all was still, Trent was able to get a good look at this ragtag group of people. Arianna was young and beautiful, her skin a soft brown. Her hair was dark brown with dark highlights running throughout it, hanging down close to her waist. Her outfit was a previously mentioned black jacket with a white tank top that possessed a low neck line and bared her midriff. Acid watched jeans with a black belt and black half inch pumps completed her attire. (A picture of Arianna for reference: fashnberry.com/wp-content/uploads/2013/11/melanie-iglesias-at-power105.1-s-powerhouse-in-new-york-2.jpg ) Kimberly was just as a attractive as her friend with black hair that hung past her shoulders. Her clothes were a black, decorative tank top with a denim skirt that hung just above her knees. Brown boots were her choice of footwear. (Pic of Kimberly as well: 1.bp.blogspot.com/-EUmOEABxElI/TkI_RgEWXCI/AAAAAAAACTs/dRhEibSWP14/s1600/celebrity-natalie-hot-picture.jpg ) "The name's Brad Garrison, pleasure to meet you all. This my partner Jessie." Brad introduced himself after everyone was done catching their breath. His outfit was simple and practical, a yellow shirt and tie with brown slacks and matching loafers. (Picture of Brad: img3.wikia.nocookie.net/__cb20080816065521/deadrising/images/a/a9/BradGarrison.jpg ) He gestured to a blonde woman that stepped forth. She was clad in a khaki colored business suit that displayed her official attitude. Her bust was the largest of all the women thus far, the most noticeable trait about her to Trent. "Jessice McCarney, Brad's partner. If you'll follow us, we can lead you to safety." She said matter of factly, motioning for them to follow her. (Lastly, a picture of Jessica: img2.wikia.nocookie.net/__cb20100907013958/deadrising/images/1/11/Jessica_McCarney.jpg ) "Don't mind Jessie, she just takes her job seriously." Brad whispered to Trent as they followed his partner. "It's alright, she's taking this better than some of the other people I've seen." Trent replied, glancing toward the last member of their entourage. He was an older man like Brad, but his suit was dusty and well worn. He held a camera in one hand and kept snapping pictures as he walked. "Frank West is the name, kid." The photographer told Trent after catching him staring. (FInally, THE Frank West if you've never seen him: img4.wikia.nocookie.net/__cb20080816064830/deadrising/images/2/2b/FrankWest.jpg ) "Nice to meet you Frank." Trent answered, once more cursing his tendency to stare. Jessica and Brad led them to a secure room on the ground floor. The heavy metal door slammed closed behind them, sparks flying almost immediately. An elderly man welded the door shut to keep out the zombies, effectively trapping them within the room though. Trent let the others disperse as he examined the room and debated what to do next. Trent Reddick Health: 100% Stamina: 95% Inventory: Baseball bat (80%) Entourage: Nobody Current time: 10:20 am Approval: Arianna Celeste: 40% Acquaintance Kimberly Wiese: 40% Acquaintance Jessica McCarney: 20% Acquaintance Brad Garrison: 30% Acquaintance Frank West: 30% Acquaintance Please select up to two choices: A) Find Kimberly and Arianna to check up on them, Trent might as well see how they're doing now that things have calmed down. (+2% approval with both women) B) Look for Frank and ask him what his story is, he must be here for a reason with his camera. He seemed very interested about something on the ground floor before. (+2% approval with Frank) C) Head to the other room with Brad, Trent can strike up a conversation with him to pass the time. He also noticed Brad was armed with a handgun, he must be an official of some kind. (+2% approval with Brad) D) Ask Jessica if she knows what's going on, she definitely knows something, it's just a matter of getting through to her. She and Brad must know something about what's going on in the mall. (+2% approval with Jessica) So the approval is basically Trent's relations with other characters. If you want some shipping or to make allies, you'll need to work on raising his approval with people. This has the obvious benefits of increasing the overall chances of survival as well. Might as well check on Kimberly and Arianna, I could use the company. Trent first elected to find the women he had just rescued, wanting to see how they have settled in now that the zombie threat was a thing of the past. He made a note of the first room they entered just in case they ever run into trouble here. The center of the room contains the central unit for this section of the Willamette Parkview Mall, pipes lining its walls all the way around the room. Various consoles and buttons populated the surface of the ventilation system, but their functions were a complete mystery to Trent. He left behind the old man that welded the door shut after completing his survey of the first room. The next area he entered was the security room of the mall, a desk situated beneath monitors observing the entirety of the mall being its most prominent feature. A green cot sat in the corner directly opposite the door, offering a respite for whoever is currently watching the monitors. Brad and Jessie were currently in the monitor room as Trent passed, barely acknowledging his presence as they discussed something confidential. Those two sure are the secretive pair. Guess it only makes sense the government would be involved considering we're dealing with actual zombies though. The third and final area of the Security Room is a long hallway dotted with various rooms and a staircase leading up to the helipad. A quick scan of the adjourning rooms revealed Arianna and Kimberly to be sitting in a storage area filled with empty shelves and boxes.
"Hey, mind if I join you?" Trent asked as he entered the room, waving to the two women. "Sure, come on in." Ariann replied, inviting him inside with a warm smile. Trent pulled up an office to take a set opposite the two of them, both women currently seated on a bench for the time being. "So how are you two holding up? Things got pretty hairy for a minute back there." Trent inquired now that they have an opportunity for a real conversation. "A lot better now, I was so scared before. I thought we weren't going to make it..." Kimberly said somberly, dwelling on how she and Arianna both stared death in the face. "But we did, thanks to Trent here. I don't how we'll be able to repay you, but thanks." Kimberly and Arianna treated Trent to a hug from both women, quite a pleasant prospect in his eyes. "Aw...it was nothing. I just did what anyone else would've done given the chance." Trent replied modestly, his cheeks flushing from all the attention he was receiving. "Look Kimberly, we're making him blush." Arianna pointed out humorously. Kimberly stifled a laugh at Trent's expense, but it was all in good fun. "This has been great ladies, we should do it again sometime, but I need to go check on something." Trent told them as he caught sight of Jessie shoving Frank out of the monitor room. I wonder what that's all about "Okay, don't be a stranger." Both women said in unison, waving farewell to Trent as he departed. That was nice for a change, I'm normally not that smooth with the fairer sex.
"Good luck in there, that one's like an ice queen." Frank muttered to Trent as he passed. "I'll do my best." He replied shortly before the reporter made his way up to the helipad. Trent slowly pushed open the door to the monitor room, surprised to find only Jessie observing the plethora of screens. "Where's Brad at?" Trent inquired. "Investigating a sensitive matter. That's all I can say." Jessie replied calmly, not even glancing in Trent's direction. I have a feeling I'm going to be hearing that a lot unless I can get her to warm up to me. While not discouraged by her response, he was a bit off put by how intently she was staring at the monitors. "Trying to learn more about the zombies? I don't think there's much to them, a good blow to the head takes 'em down. Plus they have horrible footing, I'm talking REALLY BAD." He emphasizes the last words for dramatic effect. Jessie sighed as she knew he wouldn't be leaving anytime soon. "We know that much at least about the head, but I'll be sure to pass the balance thing on to Brad, it might come in handy." She told him in a slightly more friendly tone, happy to discuss something as practical as how to combat the undead. "Oh yeah, I'm here to help. Something else that might come in handy: take one down in a crowd and it might drag more of its friends with it. It's how I was able to rescue Kimberly and Arianna, the two women back there." He said, motioning to the back area where they resided.
"I'll remember that one too. So, you said your name was Trent before, right?" Jessie asked him, changing the subject. "Yeah, and you're Jessie." He retorted, just to confirm identities. "Trent, you wouldn't mind doing me a favor, would you? Frank there seems to have it in his head that we're withholding the truth of this outbreak, but it's just the opposite. I can't go into details, but we're trying to find out what happened here. Can you keep an eye on him for me and make sure he doesn't get himself or us into trouble?" Jessie requested of Trent rather forwardly. "Well..." He hesitated in giving her an answer, he barely knew either of them, and it felt wrong to consider spying on Frank for the US government. Fortunately, he didn't have time to reply as sharp flashes caught Jessie's attention on a monitor. "What was that? Brad's in trouble!" She suddenly barked, pointing to a monitor overlooking an area labeled Food Court. She reached under her desk and pulled out a handgun before rising from her seat. She began strutting toward the vent as it dawned on Trent what she was doing. "Whoa, you're not going out there, are you?" He called after her, chasing her into the first room. "I'm not just going to wait here while Brad needs back up." She responded angrily, leaving Trent to wonder if she should go by herself.
Trent Reddick
Health: 100%
Stamina: 100%
Inventory: Baseball bat (80%)
Entourage: Jessica McCarney: 100% health, 9mm handgun (12/24)
Current time: 10:30 am
Approval:
Arianna Celeste: 42% Acquaintance
Kimberly Wiese: 42% Acquaintance
Jessica McCarney: 26% Acquaintance (Boost from Jessie reacting surprising friendly to Trent) Brad Garrison: 30% Acquaintance
Frank West: 30% Acquaintance
A) Accompany Jessie back out into the mall, it seems dangerous to let her go by herself. Trent can watch her back and maybe find out more about the mall while he's out there with her. (+3% approval with Jessie)
B) Ask her to let Trent go in her stead, she can support him from the monitors by being his eyes and ears throughout the mall. She might not like it, but it seems to be the safest choice for both of them.
C) Allow Jessie to go by herself, Trent just escaped the droves of undead and he's none to eager to possibly leap back into their clutches so soon. He can watch out for Jessie from the monitors, hopefully she won't get into trouble.
So I know Jessie's approval said only +2%, but sometimes there's a chance for it to be raised by more than what's stated if you talk to a character at the correct time. Y'all just happened to catch her after Frank pissed her off a bit and Trent helped take her mind off it. He was also able to catch her before she ventured out into the mall by herself....
