Leah bites her lip indecisively. That amount of money... It would change her life forever. But was the risk really worth it? She could end up in prison- or worse- and then how would those kids survive? But she also couldn't just ignore this...
"Alright", she says. "On one condition. I have kids I've been taking care of- orphans. I'll give you their names and where we live. If I agree to do this job for you, and something goes wrong, you take the gold and put it in a trust fund for them. And you hire someone trustworthy to watch over them and take care of them. In return, I won't accept the advance pay now. If the job goes smoothly, I'll take all the pay at once. Agreed?"
He stares at her in a new light. "A selfless thief, in this day and age? Well I'll be dammed. Myths can be real. But how do you know I won't just take the money and run if you get caught?"
Leah gives him a hard stare. "Because if you were that selfish, you wouldn't be trying to rescue someone else in the first place. And because if you do, I will hunt you down and clip your wings... Permanently. Even if I have to crawl back from hell to do it."
Naesala laughs. "Damn, you're a feisty one. I like you. Alright, kitten, you got yourself a deal."
Leah smiles innocently, walks up to him, and kicks him in the shin. He yelps in surprise and doubles over. "I told you not to call me that," she says sweetly, still smiling.
