It got mentioned in Ewes, but not here. Characters that don't get recruited will still be around, just don't expect to run into them but maybe 2 or 3 times.

F (Urvan) H (Merrick) A (Yvan) I (Wulf) D (Darian)
"OK," you say, nodding a bit. "I think I want... Urvan, Merrick, Yvan, Wulf, and Darian."
You notice Muan reaching down to the quiver on her hip. She rolls one of the arrows between her fingers and as she quietly considers for a moment. "That's a very... aggressive formation," she finally says. "Bluntly, I worry you could run into a lot of issues. You've almost no ability to inflict ailments or binds. Disabling the enemy can be the difference between life and death. And you have very limited healing. Wulf will be responsible for all of it out of the gate, and only targeting a single ally at a time. Merrick can eventually heal a line, as can Urvan - when an enemy dies. Additionally, you'll have no way to cure ailments or binds on your own party beyond Wulf's Medic Bullets. You'll also have no ability to revive you've gained enough experience to adopt a subclass. Your buffing and debuffing abilities are also almost non-existent. All that said, you would have a lot of both physical and elemental firepower. So long as your energy lasts, you should be able to overwhelm most enemies with raw power. But... there are... stronger enemies within the labyrinth that you may struggle with. Well, it would certainly be an uphill battle, anyway."
"Hm." The mayor grunts noncommittally. "Overwhelming power..."
Muan lets go of her arrows and folds her arms. "Like I said before, I'm just here to give advice to rookies. If this is the party you wish, I'll go call them in right now." Is this the party you wish? (A) Yes (B) Um... on second thought...

Muan stands up from leaning against the desk, adjusts the arrows in her quiver, and nods. "Alright, then. I figured you'd want Yvan, so I went ahead and did her paperwork. The others will take some time - I suggest you explore the town a bit in the meantime." She produces a small piece of paper - a map of the town, with a few locations circled. "Start with these places. Some of the most important stops for most adventurers." You look at the map. It ends at the Explorer's Guild. And the first stop is... right here, in the mayor's office. Well, that's convenient. When you look up again, Muan's gone. You whirl around just in time to see the door opening. Wait, how did she do that...? You don't have time to consider that as Yvan steps in, a wide smile on her face. "Ha! I knew you'd want me. I mean, who could resist this?" she asks, flexing her clawed hand. "And I'm sure all my natural charm didn't hurt, either." "Right... Charm..." you say quietly. "So, what's our first mission?" Yvan asks you. "Kill a giant monster? Recover a lost artifact? Nothing's too much for me!" "Your first mission is to explore the town, meet some important people, find a place to sleep..." the mayor says. "Hello." "...Oh. Yeah, that's... that makes sense," Yvan says. "Um... Hi." "So, other than your normal duties as mayor, you handle assigning special missions to adventurer guilds, right?" you ask. "That is correct," the mayor says. "I also welcome new adventurer guilds to Zhanton. So. Welcome to Zhanton." "Thank you. But... you already welcomed us?" you ask. "Yes, but you weren't a guild then. I suppose you technically still aren't, until you finish your little tour... But I'm not welcoming you a third time, consarnit. Anyway. Go along. Come back first thing tomorrow morning for your first official mission. We'll be choosing our representative for the annual race." "That's more like it," Yvan says. "I can't wait!" "Don't get so excited you don't sleep, dearie, you'll need to be at the top of your game tomorrow," the mayor tells her. "Now, is there anything else you need?" "No, I think this map's all we need," you assure him. "Thanks for your time." "I'll see you in the morning," the mayor says. He waves as you leave with your first party member in tow. Outside, you take a moment to observe the map and orient yourself. You figure out which way to go and start to head off. Yvan stops you, grabbing your shoulder. You hadn't noticed how... intimidating... those claws of hers really are until they were so close to your neck... "Hold up just a sec. I forgot to ask, what do you want me to specialize in? Y'know. In terms of skills and whatnot."
Yvan has 3 skill points to spend. Note: New stuff (including a skill tree) in the discussion thread. There'll be one for the other characters by the time it's time for them to get skills. BIG Note: Split skills like Flame/Freeze/Shock Sabre will each get a free skill point once Blade Mastery reaches rank 3, or Vital/Mind Shut at Force Mastery rank 1. But you have to put more points in them to strengthen them. (A) Blade Mastery (B) Sonic Raid (requires 1 point in Blade Mastery) (C) Force Mastery (D) Vital Shut (requires 1 point in Force Mastery) (E) Mind Shut (requires 1 point in Force Mastery) (F) Phys ATK Up (G) Elem ATK Up (H) HP Up (I) TP Up (J) Mine

What mystical justice said two in blade and one in force

You check your notes about Fafnir Knights and set up a brief training regimen for Yvan to go through tonight. She'll start by practicing with blades for a bit. Then you'll pull her aside for some private training. You should be able to help her learn a few new tricks, and it should help improve her endurance. Helping her learn to maintain her other form should really help.
"OK, then. So, what's first?" she asks.
"Inns," you tell her. "I already have a place to stay, but we should probably all stay at the same place. Where've you been staying the last few days?"
"Eh, I've just been camping on the outskirts of town. It's easier."
"That's not acceptable," you tell her. "Come on."
You head over to the inn that's been your home the last few days. You see the grey-haired innkeeper sitting in her rocking chair in the corner. A rhythmic clacking signals that she's hard at work with her knitting needles. You aren't really sure what that thing he's knitting is supposed to be. She pauses as you come a bit closer and adjusts her glasses. "Oh, hello, dearie. You... have a room here, right? Mmm... Right, yes, 306. You had blueberry pancakes for breakfast and said you really liked the syrup."
She's correct. What an odd thing to remember. "Yes, that's right. I've formed a guild, so we'll need a few more rooms... Erm, I think Wulf is actually already staying here?"
"Wulf, Wulf... Ah, right. The one with the shiny badge. Yes, he is." She adjusts her glasses again and looks Yvan up and down, then wags beckons you closer. She whispers - loudly - into your ear. "I don't want to alarm you, dear, but I think your little friend has frostbite. She really should put on some more clothes. Does she have more clothes? I'm sure my sweet Sally has a few hand-me-downs somewhere..."
"No, I'm... not cold, I'm... half demon," Yvan says.
"Oh, oh, oh. I see." She gives you a look that says she clearly doesn't understand what that means. "Well, I'll have dinner ready for you and your little guild friends when you get back. And you can rest here whenever you need to heal up. Remember that there's a clinic in back where we can call in a doctor if someone gets too beaten up to just sleep it off. And we've got storage if you need to stash some items. Did you get all that, dearie?"
"Yes, thank you. We'll see you later tonight, ma'am," you say.
She gives you a small nod and goes back to knitting and rocking as you leave.
Just outside, you see a familiar face in heavy armor. Merrick is sitting on some boxes across the street. As the young man sees you, he jumps up excitedly. His helmet snaps shut, leaving some green spikes of hair poking out. He hurriedly adjusts it and runs over. "Oh, hey, I found you guys! Or you found me. Whichever. Muan said to meet you here. Eh. You hired me! That's awesome!"
"Yes, well, we need someone who can take a hit," you tell him.
"Yeah, I can totally do that!" he says, beating his chest proudly. "I can take a ton of hits. I'm a glutton for punishment!"
"Dial it down a few notches," you tell him. "We don't want you to... y'know... die."
"Right..." he says. "Um... And you're... Yvan, right?" he asks.
"Yes. And, yes, I'm a half-demon. If you've got any problems working with me, go ahead and spit it out now," Yvan says coldly.
"Oh! Er... Well, to be honest... I did have one small concern?" Merrick admits.
Yvan's eye twitches. "Yeah?"
"It's just... Doesn't that half-cape get in your way when you're fighting?" he asks.
"Hu- what? That's it?" Yvan asks.
"Well, yeah. I just... y'know. Figured it might be hard to use a sword two-handed or a shield or anything."
"I... I won't wear the cape in the dungeon," Yvan says.
"Oh! OK, then. So, Muan said we're exploring the town? You already found an inn for us to crash at, so... what's next?"
"The... shopping district," you tell him.
"Great!" Merrick takes two steps forward, then stops and turns on his heel. "Oh, yeah, uh... You need to tell me what type of skills you want me to learn." Merrick has 3 skill points to spend.

You tell Merrick you definitely want him to focus on defense for now. You'll do a bit of basic defense training, then really focus in on shield techniques. Merrick nods excitedly. "Got it. Great! Let's go, then! Onward, to the shopping district!"
Merrick proudly marches off, and you and Yvan have to hustle to catch up.
In the shopping district, you look around for a while before finally deciding on a random, non-descript shop that seems to have a good number of adventurer-looking types going in and out. "This seems like a good choice?" you say.
"Yeah, it does!" Merrick cheers, enthusiastically throwing open the door. There's a second door made of several hanging... chains of beads? just inside the door. "Hello-o-o-o!"
"Hello-o-o-o," an old white-haired man answers. His hair stands up like two small mountains, and he's wearing ludicrously thick glasses and a headband. He's wearing a shirt splayed open to expose his hairy chest. It's... a bit uncomfortable, really. "What is going on, my man? You lookin' for to buy some swag?"
Merrick freezes in place. "Um... Yes? I think? We're looking for a good store to buy stuff from."
"He-e-e-e-ell yeah, brother, I got that good stuff," the merchant says, making some strange signs with his hands. "Well, not too much stock right now. But bring me some good materials and Lucky Eddy will hook you right up, dig?"
"Um... Yes, we dig," you say.
He pauses and observes at Yvan for a moment. "Hm. Oh, yeah, gonna have to see about making some custom stuff for you, sweet thing. You'd prefer stuff that's not gonna mess with that wing you got pokin' outta your back, yeah?"
"Um... Er, yeah," Yvan says, shocked. "Something that won't... break when I transform, too, would be good."
"Transform? Aw, yeah, girl! I love me a challenge! You lot just roll on back here whenever ya got some materials ya need sold 'n' smithed and we'll get ya sorted, babes. In the meantime, just got some meds and basic gear for sale."
"OK. We'll keep you in mind," you promise. "I don't have much money, and the mayor gave us a few potions to get started so we don't really need anything today..."
"Don't sweat it, dude! I will see you all later," Eddy says. You head out and Yvan stops just outside the door.
"Sweet thing...? Was he... Was he flirting with me?" she asks quietly.
"Old Eddy?" a familiar voice asks softly. "Nah. Probably not. That's just the way he talks. Don't read too much into it." You look around and see Urvan leaning against the wall, nervously clinging to his spear. "So... Guess you hired me... That's... awesome. Great. Super-excited," he says in a tone that says he is very much not.
"Glad to have you, Urvan" you say anyway.
"Yeah... I guess..." He sighs heavily. "Well, to be honest, I'm not really in love with the idea of going to fight a bunch of monsters in the labyrinth... I guess let's just get this over with."
"Before we go, I want to be sure you don't have any problems working with me," Yvan says.
Urvan pauses and slowly scans her from head to toe. "I guess not. But are you sure you don't want to, y'know, put some clothes on first?"
"WHAT!? I'm... What I'm wearing is fine!" Yvan insists.
"I mean, it's technically enough that the guards can't arrest you for indecent exposure..." Urvan mutters. "Still a weird thing to wear in public."
"This coming from the guy in the skirt," Yvan spits back.
"It's a traditional highlander outfit..." Urvan says.
"I thought having a spine was also a highlander tradition?"
"Enough," you finally say. "We're going to get along, OK?"
"Yeah!" Merrick chimes in.
"Fine..." Urvan and Yvan say simultaneously. Their tone and stances suggest they aren't exactly happy.
"C'mon. Hug it out?" Merrick suggests.
"That's... not necessary," Urvan says. "I'm sure we'll get along fine once we've fought together for a bit."
"Besides, don't we have work to do?" Yvan says. "Where's next? The bar, right?"
You double-check the map. "Yes." Yvan is the first to walk off, with Merrick close behind.
You wait for a moment and look at Urvan expectantly. "What? Oh, yeah... training. Hm. Just tell me whatever it is you want me to do." 3 points. Again.

You're going to have Urvan practice attacking, focusing on that spear he likes so much. He can work with Merrick. He nods and quietly follows behind you as you head to the bar.
You reach the bar and stop outside. There's quite a few people coming and going. You immediately wonder why exactly you're supposed to be here. This is an important stop for explorers? You feel a hand on your back pushing you forward. Urvan pushes you towards the door. "Come on, let's get it over with..."
"But... why do we need to... Hey!" Urvan ignores your protests and forces you inside.
"Welcome," a thickly-accented voice calls from behind the bar. He's pretty big, looks like he was possibly an adventurer in the past. He's got a jagged scar across his cheek, and his nose is bent at an odd angle over top a poofy mustache. "You new here? Ya, I never forget a face. Friend of little friend Urvan, hm? Adventurer? Another rookie guild, hm? Mm. Well, you do not look like you want drink."
"I wouldn't mind a drink," Merrick says. You give her a glare. He can come back and drink when he's off the clock.
"No drink. You want information, then?" the bartender asks.
"Information?" you ask.
"Mm. This is what many adventurers come in for. Gossip, yes? Speak with other adventurers that come around. They may have useful advice, yes? I do not mind, so long as they occasionally order something or post a request."
"Request?" you ask.
"What, you are parrot?" the bartender asks. He guffaws at his own joke, then points to a board. "Is simple, exactly as it sounds. People post a request, adventurers come and fulfill request. You want tutorial? And do not simply repeat 'tutorial,' little friend."
"Tu- er, sure," you say.
"OK. Simply walk over to board, read requests, then tell me which you wish to claim. There are anything from hunt and kill monster to finding ingredients to simple errands. Lots of people in Zharton, lots that needs doing. Even town officials post simple missions too simple to be official missions. When you fulfill request, you come claim reward, I take small cut, you take new request, maybe buy a round of drinks, everyone happy. Is good system, no?"
"Why... is that done at a bar?" you wonder aloud.
"Is tradition!"
"Tradition?"
"Again with the parrot! Where do people naturally go to complain about problems, hm? The bar. Used to be people would overhear other guilds complaining about problems and agree to help with problem. We simply formalize and streamline the natural process, no?" The bartender puffs his chest out proudly. "Is valuable public service."
"OK. Well... we'll come back sometime," you promise. "We still need to finish exploring the town."
"Yes, yes, yes, run along on little sightseeing tour. But do not be forgetting to come back to the Drunken Lion soon, hm? You will not go so far alone."
You head out of the bar to find another of your new guild members waiting. It's Wulf, the older gentleman with the rifle. He pops a small salute when he sees you. "Reporting for duty," he says curtly.
"No need to be so formal," you tell him. "We're almost done with our sightseeing tour. Next is the entrance to the labyrinth, then we report back to the explorer's guild to pick up our guild card."
Wulf nods. "I believe the entrance is this way..."
"Just a moment," you say. "First of all... Yvan? Go ahead."
She gives you an odd look. "Hm?"
"Your question?"
She looks a bit disappointed, somehow. "Ah, right. That. Do you have any problems working with a half-demon?" she asks Wulf.
Wulf looks her up and down. "Not particularly. Although, I've got to ask. Doesn't that put you off-balance? Looks like it would be pretty disadvantageous." He motions down at the ground.
"Huh? Oh. Yeah... Boots don't fit that foot so well anymore." She drums her toes on the ground and produces a series of sharp clacks. You notice her foot's a bit deformed and ends in pointed claws, just like her hand. "I found this actually works out better. Less hassle."
"And that eventually inspired the rest of the outfit?" Wulf asks.
Yvan looks away. "Maybe it had something to do with it." Looks like he hit the nail on the head.
Wulf shrugs. "Well, if you choose to show off your nature, it's your decision. So long as it doesn't impact your performance." He turns back to you. "Is that all?"
"We also need to decide on your training regimen," you tell him.
"Ah, yes. Of course. Well?" (A) Gun Mastery (B) Medic Bullet (requires Gun Mastery Level 1) (C) HP Up (D) Cover Fire (Requires HP Up Level 1) (E) Physical Attack Up (F) Penetrator (Requires Phys ATK Up Level 1) (G) TP Up (H) Take
