Foreword: This CYOA will be based off the Trails of Cold Steel games, though it will be following an alternate series of events. So basically an AU. If you haven't played the games, no need to worry- I'll be providing all the necessary lore and background here, and you'll be able to learn more about the world in the story via books, character notes, and codex entries. If you have played the games before, you'll notice some returning characters and familiar events.
General Info: This CYOA will actually be fairly similar to Mystic's Dating Sim in some ways, so if you participate in that, you know a bit of what to expect, even if you've never played the games before. The MC you create will be attending Thors Military Academy, a prestigious school for young future officers that's also a High School. The story will be split into several chapters, each with two parts: School life, and Field Studies, which will have the MC and their class traveling all over the Erebonia Empire. At school, you can befriend other members of your class or other NPCs and deepen your relationship with them, as well as participate in school activities such as clubs. Thors Military Academy is still a military based school however, so you will also have things like Practical Exams(Combat Exams), Field Drills, and competitions, and Field Studies will have military applications.
AP, or Aptitude Points: Answering questions correctly in class, doing well in practical exams or other school activities, and completing quests will all yield AP. The more AP you have, the higher your standing in the school is, and the higher your rank is. Your rank starts at B-0 and can go all the way up to S-10. Increasing your school rank will reward you with special bonuses or items that are very beneficial and will greatly help you. Reaching Rank S-10 will unlock something very special.
Quartz, Orbments, and Orbal Technology: If you haven't played the games, it's easiest to think of this as a kind of Magictech. Orbal Technology refines and uses special ore called Quartz to make everything from tanks, guns, trains, cars, lights, lampposts, and just about everything else you can think of. Quartz is essentially a form of limitless energy and can be molded into nearly anything. However, while Orbal Technology is commonplace now, it was only discovered and created 50 years ago, and it is regulated by the Government and the Reinford Company, so not every place has easy access to it.

Background summary
The Erebonian Empire is one of the largest superpowers on the continent of Zemuria. It is a country steeped in history and tradition, where knighthood and the old ways go hand in hand with the technology of the future. In the Empire, much is decided by birth. People are separated into two classes, Nobles and Commoners, and this class divide has been a crucial part of the Empire for centuries. Prejudice and discrimination are simply matters of everyday life between the two classes, and for a long time, there was no hope of change. However, in recent years, a series of ever increasing reforms has shocked and changed the country from its foundations up, and tensions are rising. Lead by the Chancellor of Blood and Iron, Giliath Osborne, and the Imperial Governor Carl Regnitz, a man of common birth who rose to the seat of Imperial power, the Reformist Faction has been steadily changing the country from within. In the year 1204 of the Septian Calendar, the country was secretly bracing for civil war.
Erebonia has the largest military on the continent, and is only rivaled by the Calvard Republic in terms of sheer power. 12 years prior, in the year 1192, a war known as the Hundred Days War broke out between the Liberl Kingdom and the Erebonian Empire. All three countries have a Nonaggression Pact as of year 1204, but an unexpected incident in the Nord Highlands suddenly breaks the pact, and a border skirmish between the Calvard Republic and the Empire suddenly escalates into full-scale war. Tensions erupt on a global scale. The Liberl Kingdom closes its borders, and Crossbell State, the merchant nation in between Calvard and Erebonia, is forced to call off its legendary West Zemuria Trade Conference.
The war between Erebonia and Calvard lasts for three years, and it is devastating to both sides. The war is later referred to as "The War of Two Suns". However, thanks to the efforts of Chancellor Giliath Osborne, Lieutenant General Zechs Vander, General Olaf Craig, a group of unlikely Thors students and a former Bracer, the war is ended with the signing of a new Nonaggression Pact, known as the "Treaty of the Lions."
Five years have passed since the war ended. It is now the year 1212. Both countries are still recovering from the damages they sustained in the war, and ironically enough, the Noble and Commoner divide seems stronger than ever in Erebonia. The Imperial Emperor, Emperor Dreichels Reise Arnor, has died from a sudden illness, and his young son, Prince Cedric, has ascended to the throne, with the now High Chancellor Osborne firmly at his side. Political unrest and tension is at an all-time high. The Erebonian Imperial Army are seen as both saviors and demons, for their actions during the war. Crime and poverty run rampant in the lower class.
However, beyond it all, one institution still remains unchanged by the turbulent times: The most prestigious military academy in all of Erebonia, Thors. Well, mostly unchanged.
