Oh, can you give us a basic level of technology or a style of world? Is this sword and sorcery (darker, more "realistic" fantasy with magic and elves), high fantasy (World of Warcraft), classic fantasy (LotR), or what?

It varies from area to area. Places like the Electric Nation have the highest technology and feel sort of steampunk-y with the Crystal Tech. Earth Nation also has Crystal Tech, but uses it mostly for war instead of convenience in everyday life. The Light Nation uses magic instead of Crystal Tech. The Plant Nation uses absolutely no Crystal Tech since it's outlawed there and it feels like small villages in a happy and relaxing way. So technology can vary a lot. The style of the world is...hard to explain. It should feel like a fantasy world that is transitioning to a new age in technology with the invention of Crystal Tech. Does that help at all?

She can probably tell what the dog wants from its reactions or interactions, but she won't be able to directly speak with it.

I'm going to make a few statements, Mystic, and you tell me yes or no for them.
- Fusing magic from crystals of different elements is antagonistic rather than synergistic - for example, producing lava with fire and earth crystals produces less "magical energy" than the fire and earth crystals could produce individually.
- Different combinations use different amount of energy - water and wind combine much more easily than dark and light.
- Fusing more different types of crystals causes greater loss of energy.
- A mage combining their magic directly with a different-element crystal is much more exhausting than normal and rarely practiced, and two mages combining their magic directly (for example, to let one produce steam rather than just shooting a jet of fire and water together to make it) is so exhausting and dangerous it's considered taboo.
- Purity crystals are extremely rare and hard to come by
- Purity crystals can act as catalysts/stabilizers for elemental fusion, significantly reducing or even reversing the antagonistic effects

All true statements, Crow.

Alright. Then I have the basic background down. A light mage bookworm that funds a dark mage mercenary/adventurer's expeditions in exchange for purity crystals to use for his/her research. The light mage heads out into the field because... hm. The dark mage didn't report back after the latest assignment and is days overdue? The dark mage dared him/her? Field testing his/her latest breakthrough with dark mage as a bodyguard...? Also need to figure out the source of light mage's funding. Maybe s/he works for a university? Would the university approve of this setup, or would s/he be keeping it hush-hush from the higher-ups and paying extra for dark mage to keep quiet? Also designing weapons. Yay, designing weapons. One of the best parts. Hammer out personalities and backgrounds... Probably do one male and one female and toss a coin to decide which is which.

It would have to be hush hush super secret. Its possible the light mage is one of the important professors/researchers in the Light Nation.

I blame HH.

"Stop by my office during off-hours and keep the goods in an unmarked box" hush-hush? Or "meet me at my house after dark and make sure you aren't followed" levels of hush-hush?
I'll say not one of the important professors/researchers. High enough to have some influence, but still looking for his/her big breakthrough to become a respected member. And this could be it. Actually, you'll probably recognize the archetype from a certain other character...

Aren't all the animal-creatures...? Except the ones that are scalie-bait. I didn't feel like it was necessary to point it out individually.

Name: Stephine McMahon Age: 23 Race: Human Explorer Type: Psypher Weilder Psypher: A pair of dual blades. One is the essence of water and is a darker shade of blue. The hilt has a nice wavy design and the blade looks like a wave about to crash. The other blade is the essence of ice and gives off a chilling sensation. The hilt looks like a bunch of snowflakes linked up to form a shape and the blade looks like a jagged icilcle. She named her blades Aqua Shiva Home Nation: Water Nation
Appearance: Above average height and slender frame. Her hair is a beautiful shade of blonde almost white like at times in the bask of the sun. Her eyes are a pair of light blue and sparkle in the sun. She tends to walk in causual ware which is a light blue shirt and a pair of pants and shoes. When its more formal she likes wearing a long flowing sparkling blue dress, with a pair of white leggings, a beautiful sapphire necklace and a pair of white studded heels. Pale skin and ample yeah that all I think. Oh and when out explpring her twin blades are strapped across her back in a X shape.
Backstory: Stephanie grew up as the daughter of one the chieftains of the water nation. Usually carefree and go with the flow she goes where she pleases when she pleases. Well as long as her trusty personal baby.... guard her childhood friend is by her side. Stephanie when out in public tries her best to hide the fact that her dad is important. Yet its kinda of hard when everyone knows your dad its a little bit hard to do. Stephaine doesn't like it when people treat her specially because of her dad. Yet she doesn't complain most of the time.
Stephanie is carefree but reckless, friendly but a bit of a hot head, and carefree but sensitive.
Beast(/ more like Pet)
Name: Buck
Animal: German Shepard about 1 years old
Bio: Stephanie's dad was worried about his daughter going out constantly going out on her own. She had her best friend as her personal guard but well you can never have too much protection (somewhere in an elevator a cat like demon is saying Giggty). Thankfully it worked out for him when Stephaine saw this cute wittle puppy and she fell in love with him instantly. The dog would become attached to her. With some formal training (think how police or military dogs are trained) Buck would become one of her more trusted guards. He's extremely friendly and easy going and most of the time is a big soft Teddy bear. Unless Stephanie is in dnager then he turns into a visouis flurry of fangs and claws. Sometimes Stephanie feels like people only like her for her Bear dog so she does get a little jealous about it.
