Okay, from now on, 'I can't think of anything to do' is a more valid answer than not answering.

If you don't kill us, we'll all find a way out of here without having to kill each other.

"Look!" You say, hoping to avoid bloodshed. "If you don't kill us, we'll all find a way out of here without having to kill each other."
"Forgive me if I don't have much faith in that." Mortification says, flatly. "If you can't give me something concrete, I'll just have to take the initiative. . ."
"Tell you what, you can have the brat and the snarker." Ace says, nodding towards Limelight and May. "If and when we find this... 'Betrayer', you can have him too. I have a feeling that whitey-tighties will make himself hard to reach."
"Oh my gosh! How do you sleep at night?" Foursight says, appalled.
"If you can deliver, then I'll leave you alone."
"Lay a finger on them, and I'll forcefeed it to you. Then you can have a bath, in a chest of your choosing."
"I wouldn't bet on it. The Dark Lord has powers you know not."
"I-is it really worth killing three people, to save your own life? W-wouldn't it be better to just live it in peace?"
"Nope. 'Fraid not. Well, my time's almost up. Watch your back. That way, I can shove a knife through your chest."
The screen goes black. You turn to look at each other in turn, each showing varying degrees of concern. Except Ace, who stands away from everyone else, looking aloof.
"So, what do we do now?"
"Personally, I'd say we should restrain Ace."
"I agree. He won't co-operate, and he's planning to stab us in the back."
"I won't obey stupid rules, and I'm not dying for any of you. I want old Mortie to think I'll co-operate, so his guard will be down."
"Are you sure the Hunter is a 'he', I thought I saw... nevermind."
"The way I see it we have four immediate objectives." Mu says, glancing down at his hand. "We need to establish order, we need to get any 'items' that we have left in our rooms, – apparently there is one in every room we have been in thus far – we need to root out the Betrayer, if they are not already dead, and we need to see what is in the tunnel in each chest."
"It might be worth seeing if we can remember each role, so we know what we have in our arsenal. I'm pretty sure the Betrayer will already know them, so we should try to as well. It might be best if for the most part, you didn't say your own one, or the Betrayer might work out it's yours."
Do you...
A: ...Try to get a list of roles with the others?
B: ...Recommend you do not try to get a list of roles?

A. Eventually. See if we can find some slips of paper and pens for secret balloting first if no one can suggest a secretive way to do it.

Hmm...it would be nice if we wouldn't have to be secretive because then we could more easily spot discrepancies. Do we know how many roles there are? They can't double up on roles, right?

"We should probably find some pens and paper, and get some sort of ballot box substitute." You say, pondering the consequences. "It'd be nice if we didn't have to be secretive. Then we could work together to spot discrepancies... do we know how many roles there are? Multiple people can't share the same role, right?"
"The trouble with the papers idea," Elf points out. "Is that this translator cannot help me write in English."
"If we do it," Says Foursight, shaking her head in dissent. "and one role is conspicuously absent, Elf is doomed."
"But his sacrifice won't be in vain...(!)" Ace says. You think he's probably joking, although, knowing him...
"How about we each say how many roles we can remember?" Mu suggests. "That way, we can decide on the probability that someone will be exposed."
"Seven." Bubbles says, confidently, yet still somehow nervously.
"Yes?" You answer.
"No, I mean, I can remember seven roles."
"How 'bout that? I can only remember two."
"I can remember eight, ...or possibly nine.
"The words were in English. I only know my own, because the man in the white suit told me."
"I can remember six."
"I can remember eight."
"...Three."
"Eighteen!"
"Allure...!"
"...Two."
"I'd say... five."
"Pathetic, all of you. I remember ten."
After quickly glaring at Ace, Foursight turns to you. "How about you?"
You can remember 'Binder', 'Scholar', 'Looter', and your own role, 'Leader'.
You say...
A: 3 B: 4 C: (Lie)

Would it be better for them to assume we're one of those 3, or one of those 4...? Alternatively, saying we remember 4 but don't want to add our role on the list and therefore eliminating those 3...
Let's say we remember 4, but we'll only say the 3 we didn't get.

I think we should say four and just list the ones we know. But uh...I don't want to cause a tie that can't be broken. Crow? Do you wanna maybe discuss or tell me a bit more on your reasoning? I don't feel like we need to lie since it's just what roles we remember. If we're honest, it will help the others help us. Plus, if we say we remember four, but only say three, that's a little...suspicious. We need to earn their trust so we can get the truth out of them. Everyone except Ace seems to trust us right now. Let's not lose that yet.

Explain my reasoning? Sure. If we say we remember 4 and list those 4, they know we're one of those 4. Binder or scholar's fine, but the other 2 strike me as good targets.
Saying we know 4 but won't list the one that's our role contributes, is honest, and means there's still 9 roles we could be, excluding Betrayer. And it gives the others an out to do the same.

"Four." You say, after a few seconds.
"Interesting." Mu muses. "With this many roles remembered per person, it is statistically unlikely, even if you do not risk saying your own role, that we do not have all of them. What I recommend, is that we go to the study, and tear some paper into pieces, write a role on each of them (not including our own), shuffle them about, and have someone read them off, (probably someone without experience in handwriting analysis, probably Bubbles for that reason) and have a tally under each one. That way, if someone's making up a role, we'll be able to see it has only one tally mark."
"Good plan." Redemption notes. "Probably best to do it in block capitals as well."
"We're making a lot of assumptions here. Too many. What if the Betrayer doesn't know what the roles are? What if they somehow implanted the idea into our minds? What do we really gain by knowing the roles?"the
"If we know the roles, we can do a role claim. We don't out our roles publicly, but we can keep a piece of paper in a room, have all the roles with a running tally under each one, and one at a time, go into the room, and draw a line under our role."
"That's terrible! The person who goes in second knows exactly who the first was, and the third person has a 50/50 guess for each one!"
"Oh! No! I... I didn't mean—!"
"It seems to me, that we have found our Betrayer here. Trying to trick us into giving you our roles, are you?"
You're going to have to intervene. What do you say?

First guy underlines 4 roles, 3 others go, then number 1 goes back and erases his fake lines. If one of the others has one of his underlined roles, they just come back and go again last. No one would have better than a 33% chance of guessing someone's role. Acceptable risk.

Uh... I think you might need to explain that to me in a bit more detail...

OK.
The first guy goes in and underlines his role, and 3 dummy roles. Then 2nd guy goes in and underlines his role. That means there'll be 2 guys done and 5 roles underlined. If his role is already underlined as a dummy role, he just comes out and goes back to the end of the order, going after everyone else. Firsty will know with 33% what his role was, but the odds that happens is only 33%... After, say, 6 people actually adds their roles, Firsty goes back and removes the dummy lines. He'll know 6 people with 6 roles, but not who's who.
Whoever goes first has more information than the others, but someone knows his role with 25% certainty.

"Okay. I have an idea." You say to the others.
Foursight and Ace immediately stop bickering.
"The first guy goes in and underlines his role, and 3 dummy roles. Then 2nd guy goes in and underlines his role. That means there'll be 2 guys done and 5 roles underlined. If his role is already underlined as a dummy role, he just comes out and goes back to the end of the order, going after everyone else. He'll know 6 people with 6 roles, but not who's who.
Whoever goes first has more information than the others, but someone knows his role with 25% certainty."
"Firstly, why the bonnet would we give anyone a potentially 33% chance of knowing someone's role? That's information that could be tortured out of them, even if they aren't the Betrayer. Secondly—"
Suddenly, he is interrupted by a message being played inside everyone's helmets.
"Hello. It's me, the Messenger." The voice says, in a chirpy tone. "I'm someone in this room with you guys. I can message you all individually, by the way, or all at once, like I'm doing now."
"Interesting." Says Redemption says, scanning everyone, to see who is sending the message. "Why are you messaging us now?"
"That's because I have a way around this problem of yours. After you get the roles, I can just message you individually, and tell you to raise your arms when I say who you are."
"How do we know we can trust you? We have no idea who you are!"
"You know I'm not the Betrayer, and that will have to be enough. By the way, my win condition is to get to the House, or the Post Office, so, if it comes down to it..."
"Fine. Whatever. As long as you don't try to leave the party early..."
It looks like things are settled. Do you have any more points you want to make before everyone heads down to the office?"

With no objections, you all head down to the office. Looking at the sign, it's actually the 'Study', but it's not like it matters.
You are handed four slips of paper. Do you write down your own role, or not?
