Captain Rallos steps into the bridge shortly after Leone. The slight flush in his cheek suggests he's had fun during his visit with Marian. "That woman... Ah, if I were a few years younger..." he mutters to himself, then clears his throat as he takes his position at the helm.
"All hands, report," he orders.
"Clear skies and calm seas as far as the eye can see, captain!" a young-looking member of the crew responds almost instantly.
"Engine output nominal, captain. We're 10 minutes ahead of schedule," another says.
"No aberrations among the crew, captain," a third calls out.
The captain narrows his eyes suspiciously, seeming to sober up in a heartbeat. He sniffs the air a few times, then reaches for a small box. He holds it up and a speaker system crackles to life. "All hands, full alert. Repeat. All hands, full alert."
"Captain?" one of the sailors asks.
"Can't you smell it?" Rallos asks. "Everything's too perfect. If there's one thing I've learned in my day, it's this. It's not when things are going terribly that you need to be worried."
Some of the crewmen look at each other in confusion. One's clearly trying to suppress a giggle when the ship suddenly lurches, its speed decreasing sharply. Leone barely manages to avoid falling over by latching onto the door frame.
"Report! Ensign Meyes, engine status!?" Rallos barks.
"Lacrima drive... no problems! Output level, 80%! Speed decreased to... 5 knots!? And dropping!" the confused seaman spits out.
"Throttle back the engine, 30% power! Don't burn her out!" Rallos orders the men in the bridge. He calls out over the loud speaker. "All hands, battlestations!"
Before anyone can actually get to their stations, a loud splash comes from the starboard bow. A massive wall of stone-colored flesh erupts from the water, a geyser of seawater following in its wake. The tentacle slams down, crushing the turret and wrapping around the ship, its tip disappearing into the water on the other side. Another tendril bursts from the water behind the ship, wrapping around the stern. The Mermaid's Folly begins to sink lower into the water.
"It'll take more than that to bring my ol' girl down!" Rallos roars like a man possessed. "Time to earn yer tack, lassie!" he tell Leone.
Leone nods, still a bit dazed from the jolt. She shakes her head, then takes off towards the tentacle wrapped around the rear.

Atticus knocks frantically on Marian's door. "Lady Marian?! We're being attacked! I'll need you to stay inside your room for the time being!" He called through the door. ----- Hecate and Aldous would have launched into action, but they decided against it after seeing Leone take care of it. "Focus on the tentacle... The one that is small." Hecate ordered, drawing her fan. After a quick muttering of words, she flicked her wrist, iron needles springing forth and penetrating the tough, rubbery skin of the tentacle.
Aldous followed suit, but at a distance, focusing on reflecting anything that might damage the ship.

Marian pulls her door open before Atticus can run off. "Hold," she orders impassively, arms folded over her chest. "Did I give you permission to abandon your post? What if this is some ploy to get me alone and have an assassin slit my throat?" Captain Rallos shoves the helmsman out of the way, taking control of the wheel and bringing the ship hard to starboard. "Ensign Meyers! Order the cannon to open fire!"
"B-but the tentacle's wrapped around the ship...! Shooting it now would-!"
"Did I ask or order? The Folly ain't gonna to sink from some little peashooter like that hitting the deck, but those tentacles may be a different story, assumin' I know what's on the other end o' 'em!"
"W-well, either way, the cannon was crushed under the tentacle!"
"Then why the blazes isn't Sig up here fixing it!?"
"Right! Um..." Ensign Meyers picks up the speaker. "Chief Engineer Sigurt to the deck! Chief Engineer Sigurt, to the deck! The cannon needs repairs!" Deep in the bowels of the ship, the middle-aged Sigurt crawls out of his hidey-hole by the Lacrima Drive. Grumbling to himself, he grabs a random wrench hanging from the wall. He staggers forward, fighting both the rocking of the ship and his own inebriation. "Stupid... always the quick trips when things go wrong, crap breaks down... All I want's a few minutes to sleep, can't even get that without some blasted sea monster tryin' to hurt my baby..." He stops to pat one of the bulkheads as it groans from the stress. "Hush, hush. Daddy's here, Daddy'll fix you right up. Ju-u-u-ust as soon as he blows this stupid oversized fish into tiny chunks."
Leone arrives at the tentacle wrapped around the stern of the ship just in time. Seamen are pouring out from every opening. They carry weapons ranging from scimitars to clubs to makeshift spears. One hapless sailor's armed with nothing but a fork, but he certainly seems ready to fight. "Alright, lads, let's get this monster off our ship!" Twenty voices roar out in response.
The sailors swarm the giant tentacle, hacking at every spot they can. Their attacks seem largely ineffective, some not even breaking the skin. As Leone joins the fight and plunges her rapier into the monstrosity, she understands why. The skin's simultaneously extremely hard and very rubbery. The clubs are having absolutely no effect, as it doesn't seem to react to pain. The spears are able to pierce the flesh, but not do much damage. The handful of sailors lucky enough to have proper swords or axes are doing some damage, but it pales in comparison to the size of the fleshy appendage.
More tentacles, much smaller than the two threatening to sink the ship, emerge from the water. One snakes its way across the deck, knocking two sailors sprawling before wrapping around Fork Man's waist and hoisting him into the air. Leone rushes forward, envisioning a simple reflector spell. One hand on her temple, she slashes at the air, sending a shockwave of compressed air hurtling at the tentacle. It severs, causing Fork to drop from the sky. Fortunately, he lands on the larger tentacle, bouncing to relative safety. He immediately leaps back into the fray, fork at the ready. Leone continues to barrage the tentacles with shockwave after shockwave, though none seem to do as much damage as the first; most seem to be an inconvenience at worst, temporarily stunning the tentacles. With each tentacle that slips through her assault, lashing at the sailors before pulling back, their morale falters.
"Keep fighting!" Leone calls out over the din of battle. "We must not fail! Victory or death!" Perhaps not the most inspiring speech, but the reminder of the consequences of failure, the fear of death, had the intended effect. The crew jumped back into the fight with renewed vigor.
"I can't keep this up forever...!" Leone thinks to herself. A shockwave actually manages to destroy another tentacle, leaving it not-quite-severed, but useless, and Leone rushes to dodge out of the way of the tentacles that swing her way in response.

Aldous draws his silver sword, charging at the small tentacle they currently face. While Hecate's needles had pierced the flesh, it didn't seem to do much. Aldous slashed to the left, but was quickly backhanded by the tentacle, crashing into the deck. The tentacle raised again to slam down on his fallen frame, yet Hecate refused to let that happen.
Opening her mouth, and already having said the words, the woman fired a beam of iron at the tentacle, managing to destroy a piece of it. Hecate swore as she rolled to the side, avoiding the splatter of black blood. ... An abnormality.
"Aldous!" She called. Forty antler, Aldous had escape the splatter as well, a calm expression on his face. "Worried? Don't be, I know what we're facing." He said calmly, mindful of where he stepped. Hecate resolved to not use any attacks unless the tentacles were out of range from the ship. This would be dangerous to clean up later.
Yet another tentacle swing around widely, and this time Aldous sliced. He was carried into the air, but muttered a quick spell to summon a shield that he landed on seconds later. The tentacle came back, and Aldous repeated his actions, watching the tentacle rebound off the strong shield.
Hecate leapt with a boost, slicing at one tentacle before grabbing onto it, spinning, and then landing back on the deck safely. "My fan isn't working." She scowled, noticing it had made a cut, but not enough to remove the menacing thing. It was Aldous' turn to leap, and this time he sliced down on said thing, cutting it, and quickly setting up a shield to reflect the toxic blood into the sea.
He felt a little bad for the sea life, but otherwise didn't make an expression. "Let's hit the smaller ones." He said, watching two more tentacles rise from the depths. It was on now. ------ Atticus stared down Marianne with a look of disbelief. "I hate to break it to you, but there's a kraken attacking us... Right now. A very dangerous one that isn't normal. Have you ever heard of an abnormality? If so, that's exactly what it is. If I was trying to kill you, I would have wrapped my whip around your throat and did so right now." He admitted nonchalantly, glancing at the chaos.
"Might need to wipe the deck later." He added.

"Threatening the person you're supposed to be protecting?" Marian asked curiously, stifling a small chuckle. "Interesting. Get out of my sight." She slams the door closed. Sigurt staggers out from belowdecks onto the bow, shielding his eyes from the sun. "Rrmph. Bright light. Irritating. Definitely gonna kill this jackanape now."
He strolls across the deck, seemingly oblivious to the battle raging around him. He slightly sidesteps to dodge a seaman that sent flying by. "Mornin'," he says to Hecate with a nod as he meanders by. He stoops down next to the ruined cannon, crushed flat under the giant tentacle.
"Hmph." He takes the wrench from his pocket and taps the wreckage a few times. "Yep. That's gonna need replacing."
He groans as he rises to his feet. "Al-l-lright, then. Lessee what we got to work with." He strolls over to an empty section of the deck. "Stand clear," he calls out to no one in particular. "Requip, eh... Type 84." A seal opens slightly above and ahead of him, and as it descends, a sizable turret appears, essentially a bazooka on a tripod.
He pulls out a shell, stuffs it in one end, aims at the center of the tentacle... "Fire in the hole" he calls out unenthusiastically, without enough warning for anyone to actually act on it. The shell blasts the tentacle, leaving a sizable chunk of flesh gone. It actually reacts to the impact, loosening its grip before slamming back down.
A pair of tentacles burst out of the water nearby, searching for the source of the attack. Sigurt looks up with disinterested concern. "Little help?" he asks in a slightly elevated voice. Leone staggers around the deck, completely abandoning her offense and entirely on the defensive. Fortunately the smaller tentacles have started ignoring the sailors to target her, but it means there's precious little room to counterattack. Leone barely jumps clear of the impact of a small tentacle, but she lands prone. As another tentacle swings down, she borrows a trick from Atticus and phases through the floor. As she falls to the deck below, the impact leaves a visible dent on the floor-turned-ceiling. She picks herself up, searching for the nearest set of stairs back up.

Hecate scrambled over. "What do you need?" She asked, oddly composed despite the situation. Aldous rolled away from another tentacle smash, fending it off in the background. ----- Atticus sighed and turned. "Why are all the beautiful women so stuck up?" He lamented before heading over to Aldous. He tossed his whip forward just in time to stop another tentacle from hitting his twin from behind.
It wrapped around the tentacle, and Atticus yanked.

With his left hand, Sigurt points at the pair of tentacles hovering just overhead, ready to slam down. With his right hand, he pulls out and starts to load another shell. "Just keep 'em off me a bit longer, young lady." Leone rushes back up the stairs. The smaller tentacles are still slamming the general area where she dropped through the floor, as if searching for her. "It can't see, of course! It can only follow trajectories!" She figures that if she doesn't attack, she has at least a few seconds before they abandon their search and return to picking off the sailors.
The rear tentacle's starting to look pretty damaged with several holes torn open in the outer flesh, and entire chunks of rent muscles spread across the deck. More and more sailors keep arriving, some bringing better equipment for the ones already hacking at the massive tentacle, some dragging the wounded belowdecks. Fork Man continues his valiant efforts with naught but his dining untensil. "I hope the others are having as much success as we are," Leone thinks to herself.
As Leone spots a large hole in the tentacle carved by an industrious sailor with a large axe, an idea forms in her mind. "Amplify Echo!" she calls out, a sphere forming on the tip of her blade. Atticus' pull diverted the tentacle just enough to miss his brother. It slams down right behind Aldous with enough force to cause him to bounce slightly. The tentacle yanks back against the leash, almost indignantly.

"Woaaaaah!" Atticus exclaims, being lifted in the air. He tries to unwrap the whip from the tentacle with little success as he is swing about fiercely. Aldous sighs before focusing on another shield to block another tentacle.
The whip finally comes loose, and Atticus is tossed high into the sky. For a moment, it's fun; for a moment, it really isn't fun as gravity takes hold. The usually indifferent Atticus screams as he comes soaring down from the sky, whip in hand.
A shield appears before him... Just as his face crashes into it. "O-ow..." He moans. ---- Hecate nodded. She had a trick she wanted to try out. Whispering a spell, her entire hand transformed into a massive iron claw. Just as the tentacle came down on Sigurt, she leapt, squeezing the tentacle with the iron claw. Twisting in mid air, she changed its direction before hanging down on it, slowly causing it to bend backwards. Lifting herself up on the more flesh-like underside, she grinned sadistically, as she jumped downwards, her weight sending the tentacle to... Smash the head of the kraken.
For a time, Hecate did not resurface.

"Huh. Neat." Sigurt absentmindedly says, watching Hecate transform from the corner of his eye. His second shot leaves the tentacle nearly completely severed. As Hecate dives into the ocean, the massive tentacle tries to withdraw. "Oh, hold up there now. I'm not through with you just yet..." As it slithers into the ocean, he carefully aims and fires a third shot. It strikes the center of the previous wounds, blowing the tentacle apart. A large part of it falls to the deck while the stump quickly retracts below the water.
"And don't come back. Stupid fish-headed jackanape. Ruinin' a perfectly good morning, smackin' my baby around. All the nerve..." He heads over to inspect the no-longer-covered ruins of the main cannon. "On second thought, this isn't too bad. Probably just need an hour or two. But I'll need my other wrench, and that's all the way back in the engine room..." He sighs in irritation. "...Oh, right. Man overboard!" "Pardon me," Leone taps the sailor still attacking the largest hole on the shoulder. He turns around, ready to snap at whoever distracted him from his task. When he sees the lady in the hugely-out-of-place dress holding a faintly glowing ball on the end of her rapier, he steps aside. Very quickly. While urging the others to do the same.
Leone jams the compressed sac of soundwaves into the hole and releases the shell. A blast of air rushes out of the hole, sending Leone sprawling backwards. She crashes into a pair of sailors, and the three of them crumple in a pile. As the sailors struggle to disentangle themselves from Leone's overly-poofed dress, the force of the soundwaves travels up and down the tentacle, setting it a-wrigglin'. It doesn't seem to do much damage - a few of the larger wounds get a bit larger - but it does loosen the creature's grip. With the front tentacle severed and the back unable to maintain a solid grip, the Mermaid's Folly begins to pull away. As Hecate breaks the surface, she finds herself staring into the face of a beast many, many times her size. About half size of the ship, not even counting the mass of tentacles writhing beneath its main body. Its glowing red eyes snap to focus on her. It clacks its beak, emitting an extremely annoyed grunt, followed by a sharp scream. As Hecate slams the tentacle into its head, it retracts the stump of one of the larger tentacles, and the other crashes into the water behind the ship.
As the Mermaid's Folly begins to pull away, the beast makes no effort to follow it. Instead, it begins to radiate a black aura.
Several red-and-white rings begin to splash into the water above Hecate.

Hecate, having held her breath long enough, stares down the kraken fearlessly. Just as the even more gigantic tentacle lashes at her, she grabs on, allowing it to carry her out of the water long enough to breath. She utters the same spell she did against the boar, large, iron wings sprouting from her back as she takes to the sky, high above the kraken. This time... She wouldn't hold back. She didn't have to worry about anyone else. The familiar spear she had dubbed Gungnir came into existence. She would have to strike quick and fast. It probably would have been better if she had absorbed some sort of shadows.
Either way, her body was running low on iron after having not eaten any before leaving. That was something she'd never forget to do again. Soaring in towards the most wounded tentacle, Hecate thrusted the tip of the Lance into the wound, driving it far enough to sever it. She just had to buy everyone some time. The next tentacle came forth before the water began to bubble. Hecate zipped out of the way as black beam surged into the sky, exploding thereafter. Okay, so this thing really was serious... Hecate's eyes focused on the other tentacles, hoping to wound them enough to render the abnormality helpless. As she struck another tentacle—this time unwounded—the iron lance screeched in protest before it was split in two. Cursing, Hecate reared back, only to be smacked to the east with another tentacle.
Barely catching her balance before she hit the surface of the water, she took to gliding. It seemed the kraken was entirely focused on her now. "Stupid Fluffy." She murmured, leaning to the left. The massive tentacle almost had latched on to one of her wings. And she didn't have enough power to form another spear, so she settled for her fan, hacking and slashing at the thing to no avail. It simply bounced off or made thin scratches. The tentacle hovered before wrapping around her midsection. The water began to bubble... And Hecate knew that this time there was no time to move before the beam would be fired. Struggling to escape her hold, she leaned to the left, still struggling.
The tentacle slowly pulled her closer into the depths of the water. Okay... No beam, but... It was about to devour her instead! Ominous red eyes stared her down angrily as the beak moved at speeds compared to a meat processing factory. Then, Fluffy squealed, clacking its beak jubilantly. Hecate would have blinked if the water wasn't affecting her eyesight. She was raised from the water as Fluffy broke the surface. It placed her atop its head, slowly sailing towards the ship. "...You wanted to play?" Hecate asked, although she expected no response from the monster.
Suddenly, things got a lot weirder as it placed her on the ship, then slinked to the depths of the sea. A drenched Hecate just stared in disbelief as it vanished. The black aura faded as the monster vanished from sight. Dumbfounded, amused, and dissapointed at the loss of a good battle and desperation, Hecate turned around. "It apparently thought the ship was playing with it, and that we were the soldiers. That's what I gather at least. As disturbing, awkward, and weird as that was, I'm glad I wasn't molested by tentacles." She deadpanned.

Leone heard someone yelling about a man overboard, and she ran to the railing with the others. She made out just in time to see Hecate burst from the water and take flight.
"Hecate?" she muttered, transfixed on the fight. Hecate was really going all-out, flying just above the surface of the water. The seamen on the ship were all cheering loudly, but Leone just watched, hey knuckles turning white as she squeezed the railing. As Hecate wad knocked down and dragged back under the water, she began to panic. "No, no, no, I've got to do... something...!"She threw off her shoes, tore off her stockings, and ripped most of the skirt off her dress. She was halfway over the railing, still without a proper plan, when the kraken broke the surface, Hecate riding its head.
As the kraken placed Hecate on the deck, Leone sprinted over. Hecate wad saying something about playing and tentacles, but Leone wasn't really listening. She pounced on Hecate, wrapping her arms around the soaked woman. "Hecate! Oh, Hecate, I was... I..." Leone sniffed and grabbed her tighter. "You really scared me..." "Increase Lacrima Drive gradually to full!" Rallos orders. "Bring us away at top speed, but don't startle that damned thing! Ensign Meyers, get me a damage report."

The drenched woman stiffened as Leone embraced her. It wasn't uncomfortable, but it wasn't expected either. Deep down she was flustered by all the cheering, but somehow got over it as she returned the embrace.
All the cheering was actually making her smile. Sure, she hadn't saved the world or anything, but it was nice to be appreciated... And accepted. People weren't all that bad, but... Her arms dropped to her side in confusion. Why...was ... She at... Leone's knees?
Her eyelids drooped as she crumpled to the floor on her side. Unconscious.

Leone tries to catch Hecate, but she's... much heavier than she looks. The best Leone can do is stop her from slamming into the ground too hard. With Atticus and Aldous helping, Leone drags the unconscious Hecate down to the sickbay. There's quite a line of people waiting to get in, with all sorts of injuries ranging from dislocated limbs to poisoning from the kraken's blood. Fortunately, the line moves quickly as those with poisoning are all herded up and stuffed in a small room for quarantine. "We don't have much antitoxin on the ship," the medical officer explains. "So you're all going to have to tough it out a few hours until we reach port."
A nurse helps get Hecate into a bed and the doctor comes around shortly. "Mage?" he asks.
"Ye-" Leone begins to explain.
"Dragon slayer?"
"How di-"
"She's hungry. Let her rest, give her some whatever-she-was-throwing-around earlier when she wakes up. And get her out of those wet clothes. Next!"
"But-" But the doctor is gone, already looking at a patient with a large gash on his arm.
"It's fine, dear," a nurse tells Leone and the brothers as she brings out a spare sailor's uniform. The nurse pulls the curtain around the bed shut, then forcibly shoves the brothers out. "Give me a hand with this?" she asks.
"I... um... I don't think that's a good idea," Leone stammers. "I... need to go gather my clothing. Yes, um... this floor's very cold. And I don't want it to blow away or get stolen or... Um... Yes, sorry, excuse me."
Leone slips out from behind the curtain a bit flustered. "Um... The nurse needs a hand changing her," she tells the brothers. "Fight over it or something. Whoever's not helping, meet me at Mrs. Vallast's room in a few moments."
Without waiting for a response, Leone heads to the upper deck to retrieve her lost clothing. One of the stockings is a lost cause, and the other seems to have blown overboard, but she's able to recover her shoes and the bottom of her dress. "Glad I brought a change of clothes," she thinks to herself. "I'll change later. First, off to speak with..."
Leone sighs, then heads to Marian's cabin.

Atticus glanced at Aldous, and the two share a look. "Leone's acting weird. It's just changing some clothes. Heh heh... Then again, this is a chance to see a girl without her clothes on. Count me in!" Atticus reaches for the door, but Aldous grabs his hand, exasperation in his eyes, but otherwise not shown.
"With that look? No. Go and follow Leone. This isn't the time for your games, Atticus. This is one of our friends. I'd appreciate if you could take this seriously." Aldous stated firmly before opening the door and stepping inside.
Atticus stood there, dumbfounded for a time. Then... "...He's right." He muttered dejectedly before turning on his heel and following after Leone. He was placed in a somber mood for now... And the words did hit home.
"Hey." He said to Leone, a troubled look in his eyes for the moment. ---------- Aldous steps inside, closing the door. The nurse seemed as if she was about to object to this until Aldous flashes her a charming smile. "Don't worry, I'm the more mature brother. What do you need me to get?" He asked smoothly.
The nurse points to a gown and a few towels. "I need you to get that gown, and go get me a few more towels. Those are all used... And it isn't healthy to use on patients. Thank you." She smiles in return before closing the curtain.
Aldous steps over to the hospital-like gown and hands it over, averting his eyes as the nurse has already gotten to work with removing Hectare's torso wear. "Towels are on the rack to the right." The nurse calls from behind the curtain.
Aldous retrieves it, once more averting his eyes as he waits patiently. After a few moments the curtains open. The nurse steps out. "Can you tell me what type of Dragon Slayer she is?" She asked sweetly.
Aldous thinks for a moment. "Iron Dragon Slayer... I believe. That's always what I see her using. I'll assume she didn't eat any iron before we left.." He trailed off, taking a seat.
"Iron... Iron. Hm. That's odd. I saw something that looked like the outline of a dragon a few weeks ago. It was quite some time ago in a town I can't remember." The nurse replied conversationally.
Aldous arched his eyebrows. "Really now? Heh. Maybe it's Hecate's mother?" He joked dryly. The nurse cracked a smile. "You're a funny one, aren't you?"
"I can when I want to be... Which seems to be happening when I'm around you."
"I'm getting a real playboy vibe from you." The nurse chuckled.
"Really? That's too bad." Aldous sighed. There was silence in the room before the name stepped out.
"Don't try anything."
Aldous shook his head as the door closed. "More successful than the last girl I tried that on. Nice." He casted a look at the sleeping Hecate. Mysterious...
"You know, Hecate, I wonder if you're hiding stuff from us? Granted, you can't hear me, but man, when you first stepped into the guild and mentioned your magic type, we thought you were joking; but after seeing what you did to that boar, and now this kraken, you're really something." He said.
Then, after an afterthought. "You better be back in top condition after this. I need to laugh at something when you ignore Atticus and his advances." He chuckled quietly. There was no response, and he expected that.

"Hello," Leone answers, folding the torn cloth up. "Shall we go visit Mrs. Vallast? We really should give her an update." Sigurt takes a sip from his flask, then sends it back into his pocket dimension along with his turret. He starts pulling out various mechanical bits and pieces and placing them around the ruins of his cannon.
"My poor baby. Don't worry, everything'll be fine..." "No serious structural damage, just a few dents... a lot of dents. No breaches. Some joints have buckled a bit, but not beyond repair. Fortunately, the drive system's in perfect working order," Meyers reads off a sheet. "We got knocked off course a bit, but we should still arrive on schedule, a few minutes behind at worst."
"I see," Rallos mutters. "Well, onward, then. We'll probably have to put into dry dock, to patch things up. I'll do an inspection myself later."

Atticus nods solemnly, trailing behind Leone. He didn't have much to say during the walk, and opted for silence. No flirting, no suggestive comments... Just silence.

Leone pauses in front of Marian's cabin, waits for Atticus to catch up, then knocks twice. "Madame Vallast?"
Marian promptly pulls the door open. She takes one look at Leone's tattered outfit, places a hand on her temple, and sighs.
"My apologies, ma'am. I'll change into a more acceptable uniform momentarily. I thought it prudent to brief you on the situation promptly." Leone says with a slight curtsy.
"Very well," Marian says, crossing her arms impassively.
"The ship fell under attack by a kraken. An abnormal-type, unfortunately. We've managed to escape, but the upper decks have yet to be properly sanitized. As I'm sure you know, abnormality blood is toxic, so we ask that you remain in your cabin for the time being."
"Hm. Escaped, you said? So the beast is still alive" Marian asks.
"Correct, ma'am."
"Hmph. Then remember that any other ships it sinks... Their blood is on your hands." Marian waves her hand. "Still, I suppose some congratulations are in order. Killing something of that level is most definitely beyond a guild like Alicorn Wing, but driving it back is still impressive for mages of your caliber."
"Alicorn Wing's not as weak as it used to be..." Leone says.
"Ah, yes, thanks to your new recruit. The mighty dragon slayer. Congratulations on landing a big fish like that." Marian smirks. "Though, how long until she decides the rest of you are holding her back and leaves to find a better guild?"
"Hecate's not like that!" Leone blurts out. "She's wouldn't just leave us because..." Leone trails off.
Marian frowns. "Because of something about how you're a family or some nonsense? Tsk. All you weak guilds are the same. Always on about family and togetherness."
"I wouldn't expect you to understand family..." Leone says coldly. She freezes, her veins turned to ice, as she realizes what she just said.
Unbridled anger flashes across Marian's face. With neither hesitation nor restraint, she reaches out and slaps Leone across the face. "Do not presume to speak of my family, brat." Her voice is much darker than before. Her face quickly reverts to an impassive mask, though her eyes still burn with rage.

Atticus' eyes snap to attention. He growls, stepping in front of Marian. Although there is fear in his heart, the womanizer affixes the woman with a cold glare. "I'd think you to keep your hand off my guildmate," He began. He knew the consequences of what he was about to say next, but at this point he was seeing red.
"We didn't have to take this mission for your lazy ass. We got one teammate in the medical room unconscious already because of your stupid mission. You should be grateful we're even taking this mission for you. Don't hit or insult my friends... Or we'll have some serious problems." Atticus growled. He found he wasn't afraid by her venomous stare, or anything at all right now.
This was him. This was the real Atticus underneath all the flirting and games. He kept his cold gaze on Marian, and awaited her response.

"Bite your tongue, Atticus!" The reply came from behind him. From Leone. "Regardless of your personal feelings, she is our client. Do not besmirch Alicorn Wing's name."
She steps past him to Marian. "My apologies, Madame Vallast. I spoke out of turn." She sinks into a deep curtsy, looking down at the floor.
Marian folds her arms back to their natural position crossed across her chest. "Indeed you did. But I shall overlook this transgression so long as things go smoothly from here. Clean yourself up, then patrol the cargo hold for the rest of the voyage. As for you... Atticus. Back to your post."
"By your leave, ma'am," Leone says. Without looking up, she touches her temple, allowing herself to phase through the floor.
"Hm." Marian says dismissively. She closes the door in Atticus' face, then returns to her desk, back to filling out mindless paperwork.

Atticus scowls, and resumes position at Marian's door. After Leone phased away, it was just him and his thoughts. Rubbing his forehead, Atticus hoped his twin was faring better. This mission had went from good to worse in the span of hours.
"Maybe it was the kraken." He thought. Then again, he had a feeling Marian would have showed her true colors eventually. "Never trust businessmen and business women again."He vowed to himself.
