You begin to excise the lobes while Kelly goes to work on the aneurysm. She removes it just as you're finishing the last of the lobes.
"Chiral reaction's decreased a bit more." Dr. Shepherd announces. "This could be it!"
"The core's coming out!" Jeremy says over the intercom.
"Don't lose now!" a female voice you don't recognize demands. "Your nurse is bringing you a new toy, so give it a shot!"
Lily enters the operating room with a scalpel in her hand. "Dr. Hawke, the Caduceus doctors sent this. They think it will help finish off Gladari, so let me know when the core appears."
As you drain the blood left by the lobes, you find a single, circular, gem-like object lodged in the intestine wall. It doesn't seem to be reacting.

Kelly tries to inject the constrictor into the core. The syringe tip bounces off harmlessly. When she tries to stab it, the syringe scrapes to the side.
"No good, huh?" she asks. "Try that new thing, then."
You take the... "super-scalpel" and begin to excise the core. The scalpel itself seems normal enough, at first. As you begin to trace along the core, you can see the tip vibrating very slightly.
"Chiral reaction dropping..." Shepherd tells you. "No, wait... Chiral reaction is spiking up again?"
"Here it comes..." Alice says.
Suddenly, a trio of lobes erupt from around the core, shoving your scalpel out of the way and covering the core. Kelly reflexively stabs that them with the syringe of constrictor in her hand. The lobes shrink slightly, but not enough to expose the core.
A trio of tentacles burst from the center of the mass, evenly distributed around the core.
"Oh... dear," Kelly mutters.
"Hurry and take care of them before an aneurysm forms!" Alice demands.

"We'll take down those tendrils. Dr. Powell, forceps!" you order.
Kelly grabs the first tendril with the forceps and pulls it taut. You slash it with the scalpel, and she throws it onto the collection tray. Four aneurysms appear.
Kelly grabs the second tendril and stops its movement. You cut it, and Kelly places it in the collection tray. The last tendril bursts one of the aneurysms.
Kelly grabs the final tendril and throws it onto the tray.

By the time you and Kelly finish removing the aneurysms and repairing the broken aneurysm, another tendril has sprouted and another aneurysm has begun forming.
"Don't let it put you on the defensive!" Alice yells. "Just kill the damn thing!"

Kelly begins removing the aneurysm while you expose the core. A quick slash with the scalpel removes the three lobes protecting the core. The tendril, predictably, begins to swing wildly, but Kelly has already finished taking out the only aneurysm.
You suck the blood off the core, leaving it exposed. Another tendril sprouts from the gem-like object, opposite the existing tendril.
"Chiral reaction stable," Shepherd announces.

Alright, guess who's back to writing? Though probably a bit infrequently for a few days.
"It's time to end this... Dr. Powell. Stabilizer!" you order, preparing a scalpel. Kelly begins injecting stabilizer into the patient while you return to excising the core. You pick up where you left off, carefully tracing the edge of the hardened Gladari core. You finish cutting the body free with no problems, though one of the tendrils gets dangerously close to an aneurysm. Alice's voice rings out over the intercom. "Now pull it out of him befo-" "Chiral reaction spiking! It's... going berserk!" Shepherd announces. Three lobes burst out from around the core, shoving the scalpel back. Immediately afterward, tendrils begin to spring from the core at an incredible pace, until five surround the body like the spokes of a wheel. Kelly visibly jumps back, still in the middle of an injection. The tendrils hold their position at first as several aneurysms begin to appear. "Oh sh-" the Caduceus doctor from earlier yells, cut off by the intercom falling silent. There's no time to do anything...
BGM: Trauma Team - Rosalia's Thorns
There's... no time. No time, no hope, no chance... You become acutely aware of your breathing, your heartbeat, all slowing. The five points of Gladari's tendrils... As you stare between them, you start to envision a star... "It's not... over yet...!" you mutter. You aren't going to lose to some stupid parasite! Everything seems to be moving at a snail's pace. The tendrils wave back and forth gently, preparing to charge forward. You can even track the slowed vibrations of the scalpel's head. The core itself is still hidden behind those lobes, but it should be free and ready to be extracted, if you can just get there before the patient dies. Or you could pull out the aneurysms. You think... you could even cut off the tendrils and manage to grab them before they slash the intestines to ribbons. Patient Vitals: 64 Vitals decreasing slowly 5 tendrils 6 aneurysm

"Keep stabilizing, Kelly!" you tell her. You aren't sure how fast you're talking, but you can't worry about that now. You grab another syringe, sucking up a dose of constrictor. You stab it into the lobes, and they constrict. Without missing a beat, you slash the scalpel across the lobes. They burst and disappear. The core's exposed. You take the scalpel and quickly slide it below the tendrils. You drag the scalpel below the core and it comes completely free. As you rip it out with the forceps, the tendrils come with it. You drop Gladari on the collection tray and suddenly feel very, very tired. Your chest starts to burn, your head aches, and you feel dizzy. The world starts to blur. Time starts to flow normally. "Are you OK...?" Shepherd asks. You steady yourself on the edge of the operating table. "Not... really. Kelly... Dr. Powell, can you finish up?" "Yeah, I've got it," she answers. "Go sit down some-" The door to the prep room flies open. It's the Caduceus doctor from the observation room - you recognize her voice. "We're ready to operate! Move over!" A... strangely lupine man charges in behind her. "We already got Gladari out," Lily tells her. "But we'd love some help with cleaning up. Dr. Hawke suddenly feels rather ill." "No way...! No one can operate that fast. Not without the Healing Touch!" The male doctor cocks his head, opens his mouth, and lets out a shrill bark. "Wh-what?" you stutter. The man barks again, and you feel yourself start to fall. "He's badly injured..." Shepherd mutters. You feel yourself slam into the ground. As your consciousness fades, the last thing you see is Lily standing over you, a worried expression on her face. " Hawke? Hawke!? Get up, Hawke!"
