"I'm gonna tell them to hold the big bang!" Mike said, dashing towards the wall and leaving behind Sparkle's cry of "Hey wait!"
He dashed for the hole left in the bottom corner of the wall, aiming to dive and slide through. Unfortunately, the Khimaira decided to react to Mike this time, and the snake-headed-tail of the Khimaira swooped down to block off the hole, baring its fangs for Mike to slide straight into. Mike saw the incoming threat in time and activated Burnt Rubber, hitting the snake head head-on. Normally the forcefield would be grinding the snake head into the ground, but in this case it didn't seem like it was doing any damage whatsoever. Instead, the snake head bit down around the force field, holding it in place and waiting for the pin to run dry.
Mike stared up at the snake head, frantically trying to think of what to do...and then he noticed the bat he was holding in his hands. His gaze quickly shifted to the Khimaira's back, and he swung in an upwards arc. Rushdown triggered and carried him away from his prickly situation, allowing him to land a completely ineffectual blow on the Khimaira's belly. It didn't seem to mind. Mike saw the snake-head dart in his direction, but he dashed to outmanoeuvre it, between the Khimaria's legs. The tail wasn't long enough to get tangled, but it did delay enough to give Mike an opening. He dashed at the hole and slid through, to see Sparkles running across the atrium towards Zachi and Jesus, waving her arms and shouting "Call it off! No boom! No boom!"
Oh, good to know I was such a nice distraction.
Mike dashed to meet up with the others.
"Learn anything?" Zachi asked, but before she could get a reply, Mike heard a splintering crash behind him. He turned his head and out of the corner of his eye he saw the Khimaira tackle its way through the wall. Mike leapt in front of Zachi and triggered his forcefield, using the last of the pin's charge to deflect the flying shrapnel. Sparkles jumped for cover, blinking out of where she was and suddenly reappearing behind Jesus, who grabbed half a bookshelf out of the air to use as a shield.
After the initial storm of debris, the dust cleared, allowing the players to get a look. As Zachi predicted, some of the furniture stuck fast to the Noise, but most of it was just wreckage. The Khimaira was going out of its way to batter down the entire thing. It didn't seem to mind the bits of wood, metal, and plaster getting stuck to it.
"So no boom. Are you sure?" Zachi said cautiously.
"Yes." Sparkles snapped back without a moment's hesitation.
Zachi put her pen in her pocket. "Fine."
Realizing there wasn't going to be an explosion, a few of the Black Hood Reapers flew at it again. This time, their psychs included chains, and they seemed to be trying to get it to turn down the left hall of the atrium. They flung attacks while just out of range, forcing it to chase them. Red Hoods ran out around them and set up walls to try and influence its direction in the same way. The players were ignored for the most part, to their relief.
Jesus pointed down they hall they were directing the Noise down and shrugged.
"That way's the Tin Pin event." Zachi noted.
"Is that the event for the mission?" Saprkles asked quickly.
Mike shook his head, "We think so, but it never was clear."
Zachi added. "You play using Psych Pins and the Reapers were running it. It'd be a bit of a coincidence if it wasn't related."
Sparkles continued questioning, "So we have to defeat someone...at a game? Like what, a new video game?"
"And that Noise is probably to crash the party" Zachi observed.
Mike checked his watch. 5:15. "Spencer was supposed to be playing but who knows if he's won yet though."
"If he beat the mission these timers wouldn't still be here!" Sparkles said while waving her ticking hand.
"So either he hasn't won...or that wasn't the mission..." Zachi spoke as she thought.
Urk...so we're back where we started, except now there's a monster on the loose!
The Khimaira was leaving the players behind now. They heard it roar, but it was directed down the hallway they weren't in.
"Gossamer!"
Jesus exclaimed and pointed. The other three turned around to see a dark fog rolling in far down the opposite hall.
"That's the boundary," Sparkles said, "It's like the Noise's bubble. It forces us to stay close. We have to follow it now. Come on."
The four moved to keep up, but made sure to stay far back enough to stay out of the line of fire.
"If nobody has a plan," Sparkles said as they made their approach, "We should try and get one of the Reapers to spill the beans. I hate being in the dark!"
"If we run ahead of it, we can try to make another barricade," Zachi said, "Or find some other way to slow it down."
If we run ahead of it, we might be able to check on the Tin Pin event too...
A) Try to interrogate a Reaper B) Run ahead and find a defensible position C) Run ahead and try to reach the Tin Pin event D) Other

"Zachi!" Mike called to her as the group trailed behind the Khimaira, "How far do you think that boundary thing goes?"
Zachi turned and took a look, "Uh...you mean in meters?"
"I mean how far ahead of it do you think we can get?"
Sparkles interrupted Zachi, "At least the length of the hall."
"If we sneak past we can get to the next atrium," Zachi added, "The Tin Pin event is just next to it."
"Then I'll meet you there." Mike said, about to run, before Zachi grabbed him.
"And what about us?" She said.
"You stay safe. Duh." Mike grinned before shaking her loose and dashing forwards.
Sparkles turned to Zachi. "...You going to take that?"
"No."
"Good."
Sparkles grabbed both Zachi and Jesus and teleported a few times to close the distance, before she tried again and tripped.
"Ugh, more people drains it faster." Sparkles muttered.
They were right behind the Khimaira. The noise's attention was mostly focused front, where the Reapers were pelting it with a light show. The snake head tail was keeping watching behind it however, and its quick strikes were proving difficult for Mike to get around. He danced about, staying on the edge of striking range, thinking about how to create an opening to sneak past using Rushdown. The snake head lunged, but he jumped backwards to avoid it, swinging the bat and hitting the head to no lasting effect.
It was only when a patch of ink appeared the floor in front of him was his attention averted. The sticky patches on the Khimaira from before had since worn off. He turned around and saw Zachi, not amused as usual, but with her pen out.
"Uh...thanks," he said. He got a finger pointing over his shoulder as a response, and he instinctively dove to the side as the snake head tried to bite down on him. Quick as a blink, he used Rushdown with a downward strike, zipping back towards the snake head and hammering it into the ink. It didn't seem to get hurt, but it stuck fast, giving Mike the opening he needed. He looked up at Zachi.
"Go," Zachi called, "We'll catch up."
Mike nodded and ran, zipping between the Khimaira's legs as it turned to see with its other heads what was bothering the snake one. Seeing it stuck, it began bearing its fangs for a fireball.
"Guys," Zachi said to the other two, "Run at it." She hit the detonator for the ink, blasting the snake head up and away in a tower of fire. It let out a hiss of pain as it snapped back and hit the lion head in the face. The massive Noise growled, and for the first time, it sounded like that hurt.
Meanwhile, Mike arrived at the Tin Pin Masters event...to find it mostly abandoned.
Oh...DUH, it's in the real world! I'm stuck in the Noise world!
But when he looked around again, he noticed a Tin Pin table that wasn't there before. It was much larger than the others and most importantly, there were two figures fighting on it. A stylized butterfly and dragonfly were duking it out, mostly faster than Mike could follow. They weren't just bashing into each other, there were combos and stuff like that in there.
Is Spencer playing? ...butterfly could be a coincidence. But still...
The dragonfly fired shock wave projectiles through the digital air as it flew circles a round the butterfly. The butterfly's strategy seemed to be doing a lot of shielding. Occasionally it would deflect the shock waves back at the dragonfly and score a hit, but it was largely on the defensive. Its shield looked like it was getting weaker, and it always took a few hits trying to re-position itself. When they got close, the tides would turn, and the butterfly would unleash a chain of slashes and tackles, but the dragonfly always slipped away to return to its ranged assault.
Mike watched for a moment, wondering what to do now, when a roar sounded out behind him. He could definitely recognize the Khimaira's roar attack by now. He also recognized the following crackle-boom noises of its fireball attack. Mike looked behind him. The Noise wasn't in view yet, but neither was Zachi or the others.
A) Try to influence the Tin Pin game. B) Run back to the others.

Earlier...
Even if someone was really paying attention at the Tin Pin Masters Event, they wouldn't have been able to hear this particular person answer their phone because he was slightly out of harmony with the rest of the RG. Regardless, this is what he said.
"Wassup? Sing me something good."
....
"...and casualties?"
Here the voice gets a bit darker.
"Your mezzo forte's messing with my groove man. Bring it here on the downbeat and wait for my cue."
....
"That's an order. No encores."
Presently
Mike looked again at the two animals competing at the table.
Well...I'm here...might as well try...
Mike jumped up on the table and swung his bat through the dragonfly. Even though it passed right through, the dragonfly being a hologram and all, it seemed to flinch. The opening was all the Butterfly needed to dive in and turn things to its advantage.
Hah! ...wait I hope I'm helping the right side.
He didn't have much time to consider that though since soon after his swing, the Dragonfly was thrown to the ground. That was apparently the last hit it could take, as it reverted back to pin form on contact and lay still. The butterfly did a little victory flutter before following suit.
"WHOOO! You did it!"
That was CC's voice. Mike jerked his head in that direction and saw Spencer at the controls, and CC behind him.
"Hey, good ga- Mike!?" Spencer interrupted himself when he saw the other boy on the table. Mike hastily jumped off, as Spencer and CC looked around wondering how the crowd around them had suddenly vanished.
The next thing Mike heard was clapping. He turned to see the other side of the table where Spencer's opponent stood. He was a dark skinned man, who looked young but still older than Mike. His hair was buzz cut and he wore a dark green leather jacket over a light blue shirt. The second most striking thing about him was the pair of headphones crowning his head. They were worn with a circular strap, like you might wear goggles on your forehead, but instead these were headphones the size of your palm.
The most striking thing about his was the pair of small black Reaper wings on his back. Spencer caught that fact just a little after Mike did, and uneasiness washed over him.
"Yo," the guy said with a small smile, "so we got another player. Interference ain't cool man." He followed up by taking out a player pin and jumping into the air. "But I can take in measure. I'm cutting it close anyways."
"You're a Reaper?" Spencer asked his previous opponent. He got his answer in the form of the guy floating into the air (and CC saying "no duh"). The Reaper took out a Player Pin, and immediately entered that fizzling state Mike associated with opening up his senses.
Wait...we're already in a Noise void. Where's he going?
"Just playing a ditty for the masses Wheels," the Reaper replied, to Mike's shock. He was still in his fizzling state, and his voice was significantly deeper and grainier, but it was still intelligible. "You're a sharp one alright," he said with a chuckle, "Yep. I can read your mind from this octave."
...don't think about Zachi, don't think about Zachi, don't think about Zachi...
"Can't very well have an audience see their host leaving early can we?" he said, unfizzling and rejoining the UG frequency, "Imprinted a new tune in their heads. It'll be alright."
A roar echoed down the halls. Oh right, that was still a thing. Spencer and CC flinched, while Mike just turned to the sound.
"Ugh," the Reaper sighed, "guess that's my cue." And with that he flew to where the roar came from. Mike was about to follow, before turning to CC and Spencer.
"Come on!"
"...You want us to go TOWARDS that?" CC interjected.
"It's just a big...uh...kitty. Just come on! I'll see you there!"
Mike dashed off. Spencer and CC just looked at each other hesitantly.

Zachi ran, the Khimaira hot on her trail. Despite its massive size, it didn't seem to be willing to run. It spat fire balls, but those were starting to get predictable. All to their benefit. Zachi was caught by Sparkles, teleporting her away to an alcove (a store, but functionally an alcove). By now, the Red Hood and Black hoods had simply taken a back seat since Khimaira Canor decided to focus exclusively on the players. "Just let it eat" they said.
"Did you do it?" The Asian girl asked. Zachi nodded, and waved across the hall. Jesus saw from the alcove across the way, and nodded as well, following up by sweeping his hand across the ground. Floor tiles and ceiling panels detached themselves from their places, and flew straight at the Noise. It noticed that they tickled. It didn't notice the patches of ink slathered on their backs sticking them to its body. Noise are kind of dumb. Zachi was about to thumb the detonator when Mike showed up.
"Take cover!" Zachi yelled. Mike quickly looked her way, half gesturing to indicate there was someone following him, but deciding in the end that he'd better do as she says and dove into their alcove.
"There's a guy-" he started, but then paused when he noticed Sparkles covering her ears. Zachi hit the detonator just as the Reaper from the Tin Pin Event because visible. The fireworks display rupturing from the Khimaira's body and four faces served to illuminate his smile. It's roars of stinging annoyance triggered the Reaper's headphones to slide down from his forehead to his ears, with transparent panes sliding out from either side in front of his eyes forming a sort of visor. If Mike wasn't busy taking cover, he'd have admired how cool that get up was in some corner of his mind. The Khimaira snarled and actually used a new attack for once, spitting continuous jets of blue fire from the goat heads on its shoulders at the winged target conveniently floating directly in front of it. They weren't put to much good use though, since the Reaper responded by holding out his hand and letting loose a thundering pulse of low bass sound that simultaneously negated the flames, caused all the players in the vicinity to clutch their ears, and cause the Khimaira to flinch backwards and bow its heads.
"Ladies and Gentlemen!" The Reaper called out, voice many times louder than what should be possible, "Thanks for coming to our show tonight! Can you imagine who's on bass?"
He cupped his hands in front of him and dropped a second pounding pulse that forced the Khimaira to kneel. The walls, floor, and ceiling before him shook, but not the windows since there weren't any left after the previous sonic assault. Meanwhile, circular patterns similar to Noise sigils began to appear behind him, looking suspiciously like four stylized vinyl records. Unbeknownst to the other players (as they were turned away clutching their ears, Spencer and CC were poking their heads around the corner from the far edge of the hallway. It's not like they had any problem hearing what was going on.
"Name's Drake Jones, but you can abbreviate that. I am your Game Master for this week, and I look forward to silencing each and every one of you. If you make it to the 7th anyways."
Either that's not his real name or he's a firm believer in destiny.
The sigils behind him began to spin and a musical cleft appeared before each one, before ribbons of energy suspiciously similar in appearance to musical staves shot forwards and began to entangle the Khimaira.
"Sorry for this brown note of a mission today." Drake continued, "My staff's an eighth note short of a full bar! This beastie here wasn't supposed to escape the Colosseum, but I gotta say he made one hell of an opening act!"
Another pulse of bass forced the Noise to the ground, and soon it was wrapped in the ribbons completely. A flash of light shone and it was gone, leaving just Drake floating before the ruins of a shopping mall.
"I know I said you gotta defeat him, but I want to keep this Noise on record," Drake snapped his fingers and Mike felt his hand twitch. He looked down and the timer disappeared, "Tomorrow though will be pitch perfect, and you will be playing the coda." And with that, the Game Master began to vibrate in place, first becoming a blur, but then disappearing entirely.
...
The hall was empty, save for the six players. And for the first time in a while it was quiet.
At the edge of the hall, Spencer murmured to CC, "I should not have shouted 'Good Game' before beating him at Tin Pin..."
Soon the RG began to fade back into view, and not a trace of the wreckage of the fight could be found. The mall was one again populated, and there was a significantly better atmosphere than when Mike and Zachi had last seen it.
"Attention shoppers," an announcement rung out, "The electrical problems we have been experiencing have been solved. We apologize for the inconvenience and hope you continue to enjoy your shopping experience."
This is the craziest experience I've had all...ever...and this is just day two...
Zachi had to run back and find the shopping bags she had dropped when they first found the Khimaira. By the time she had returned, Mike, Sparkles, and Jesus were all sitting on a close collection of benches (None of them would ever look at benches the same way again). Spencer and CC had decided to join them, but were pretty much the only ones energetic enough to be in a talking mood.
Mike noticed that Jesus was motioning towards Zachi with some kind of...hand motions. Soon the pair of them were sitting aside, looking through Jesus's book and motioning at each other. Meanwhile, Sparkles was fixing her hair in a compact mirror. She looked tired. And Spencer was chattering on to CC about how he should come up with a Tin Pin catchphrase.
"You know, like that guy was saying in the commercial. 'Tin Pin is my purpose!' or something like that." Spencer said with a laugh.
"You really like the game, don't you?" CC replied, ever the cheery one.
"Well, I won a tournament, I kind of have to like it!"

Mike ignored the other conversations around him for the sake of some quiet. His gaze drifted over to Sparkles, who was sitting closer to him than any of the others. He recalling sitting next to her on the bus two days ago...before they all died...truth be told, death didn't really make her look any different.
She was currently attending to her hair with a miniature comb, putting the strays back into place, but most of all making sure that pink streak in her hair was visible. Not very much of it was dyed. In fact, if she combed it the other way she could probably conceal it completely, which would be useful if she needed to look more professional. Speaking of more professional, she had changed her shoes to black flats, which are probably easier to run around in. The shoes looked newly bought...and designer brand. Her purse looked like a designer brand too, as did everything else she wore, including the t-shirt. Knowing Asians, he'd question the authenticity, but if how she had finished off yesterday's mission was any indication, she was affluent enough to not have to pretend. On closer inspection, her fingernails were painted the same pink her hair was dyed. Strangely, there was a rather bulky out-of-place looking ring on her right middle finger. Anyways, Mike panned up to notice that she had studs in her ears, and then shifted his gaze over to her face, which was definitely made up, but not being an expert in make-up he couldn't tell exactly what she'd done. There was definitely some lipstick, blush, eyeliner...oh wait, she's looking at him now. And she noticed he noticed that.
"I'm not going to date you," she said. Then blinked. Then she hastily added, "But I swear I'm not racist."
Uh...what?
"...you said it, not me." Mike replied, not really taking her seriously. Although she seemed flustered enough to try and think of a subject to change to.
"Um...never mind, Sorry. Uh, I look good, don't I?" she said. Then she thought more, and continued, "I mean, my make-up isn't even smudged after two days." She ran the back of her hand across her mouth. "Lipstick is being magic. My contacts aren't giving me any trouble...I mean, you must notice."
"We don't sweat," Mike added, "Or need a bathroom."
"Makes me wonder where lunch went." Sparkles added with a grin. Mike grinned back, being cool, and Sparkles shut her mirror to tuck it back into her purse. But then she changed the subject again. "See? I'm not...totally stuck up. Right?"
Mike blinked, wondering why all the weird questions, "Well, you tell me. You kind of saved my life, or...afterlife, earlier so I'm not one to judge." Sparkles sighed in response. Mike didn't think that response was satisfactory so he added a "Why you ask?"
"Because I think I'm supposed to be, but I don't want to be." Sparkles said as if she was admitting something. Mike was about to encourage her to say more but she continued anyways, "I mean, like, ok so, I can't remember a thing of my life before I died. I woke up and I had all designer clothes, three platinum credit cards, and the mindset that I'm better than everyone else. Only I don't know why I'm better than anyone. Because I'm rich? I'm not feeling it. I tried acting on instinct before and just ended up fighting with people..."
Wait, she has credit cards? She looks younger than me!
Mike halted her, "Hold up, your credit cards work?"
"Yeah," Sparkles responded, "That's how I got those coins yesterday. We couldn't get into any banks, but we could go inside the Mint. I bought $1000 of silver, no questions asked."
"Don't you need your name to use one of those?"
"Not my cards." Sparkles answered. Then she leaned in closer, "Isn't that scary? Who the hell was I?"
"But you name should be on the card. Right?"
Sparkles dug out her wallet and showed Mike the card. It wasn't for any banks he recognized, and it definitely wasn't in English. He saw some characters that would presumably be her name, but it's not like he could read it.
"This looks like...Japanese. You're Japanese?" Mike looked up and asked the girl.
"Hell if I know!" Sparkles said. Her voice seemed frustrated, but there was an undertone of relief at the same time, "Ok, Japanese. Cool. I didn't know but it's the best guess. And I can tell, from my accent, that English is not my first language. But it's the only language I remember. And look here," she held out her right hand and showed him the ring on it. It was a gold band, with symbols engraved on it. "This is my Psych. All the things I do, they start from this ring. And the symbols," she lined it up with a line on her credit card, "they match. I think my name is engraved on this ring. And it's significant to me. And I don't know why."
She paused for a bit. Mike thought he was going to get a chance to speak, "Well-"
"An-"
The both started at the same time. They looked at each other briefly before Mike just waved her on to talk first, which she did.
"Thanks...right. So my current theory is that this ring is an heirloom. Because I must have inherited a lot, because like, I don't know how old I am, but I have to be too young to be this rich. And my family, like, I don't remember them but they must be really important to me right? Because it's my Psych and it's special? And I'm not a spoiled brat because I feel really thankful for whoever my parents are right now. Um...yeah..."
She trailed off with a sigh. Then she smiled at Mike, probably more sincerely than she ever had before, "And...sorry for, like, running my mouth. Jesus is a nice guy but I can't really...vent with him. He could barely call my attention, kept saying "Sparkles". So now you know why I'm going by that."
I'm sure he's a good listener though.
Mike laughed a bit, "Ah makes sense. And no prob on the venting. It's a nice change from Zachi."
"Change in what?"
Mike looked around. Zachi and Jesus were right there.
"Oh um," Mike corrected quickly, "She talks a lot and you don't. That's all. You know Japanese?"
"No." Zachi replied, recognizing the topic change, and then gesturing over the Jesus, "I do know a bit of sign language though, which I've been teaching him, and he will now teach you, Sparkles, so you can work as a team better."
Jesus made some gestures and smiled. Zachi spoke up, "That was 'Yes, thank you, let's go'. I'll leave you to it."
And that she did. Zachi sat down next to Mike, and Sparkles got up and started talking to Jesus about whatever. He was pointing at words written in his book as a way to translate, as usual.
...
Mike looked at Zachi. Zachi looked at Mike.
"...What'd you talk about?" Zachi said at last.
"Her lack of life story."
"Neat."
Zachi took out her phone again. Mike put his head in his hands and sighed. Zachi didn't seem to care.

Mike woke up.
Again? Am I ever going to realize when I fall asleep?
He looked around. He was on the ground, outside the entrance of the mall. It was sunny. Yay. He looked left, Zachi was getting up. He looked right. His bike was chained up right where he left it. None of the other players were present though.
We moved. Did a Reaper actually carry us out here?
He heard Zachi's voice. "...morning."
"Morning." He replied. He checked his phone. 9:00 am. Ugh, don't you just hate early Mondays?
*BZT BZT BZT*
His and Zachi's phones buzzed. Mission.
Erase all Noise from where his master's voice fell for the Angels. You have 3 hours Fail and face erasure
*Scratch* "Ow!"
The timer on his hand appeared.
3:00:00 2:59:59 2:59:58
"Only 3 hours. To business then?" Mike said.
"Um," Zachi said, "This stuff might be a burden..." She shook the shopping bags at her side. The two bats, as well as her other clothes were inside.
"Should we get a mall locker like Spence and CC?" Mike suggested.
"That might be a hassle. Maybe after the mission...?" Zachi said. She turned back to her phone, thinking on the mission text.
"I could call to see if anyone has ideas..." Mike scratched his head. They were quite lost today.
