After a not so subtle cue that a certain Primal Deity wants to speak with you alone, you nod discreetly at your wife, motioning to the kitten dutifully following behind you. Kanis understands immediately, bless her, and begins to coax the kitten away. Leah reluctantly allows herself to be pulled away, looking longingly back over her shoulder, as Kanis leads her into the other room.
"What did you want to talk about?" You ask him, genuinely curious.
The man actually appears hesitant to breach the subject, which is truly shocking. You may not have known him for long, but Lazareth doesn't seem like the kinda man to be hesitant about anything. "I... I want to talk to you about Leah."
Oh? Now you certainly didn't expect that. "Well... Okay. Why can't you just talk to her?"
Lazareth inhales sharply, and if you didn't know any better, you'd swear he was a bit scared. "Because... This is a delicate subject. During our time in the Dark World, Leah and I... We fell in love. At least, I think she loves me. She's said she does, and I know I love her. I want to ask you for your blessing to marry her."
You blink, admittedly too stunned to reply. When you finally find your voice, you end up laughing nervously. "Why in the Chaos Dragon's unholy name would you ask me? I'm not her father."
He shakes his head, and you can tell he's completely serious. "From what I've heard, you're the closest thing she has to a father, now. And I think Leah would want you to be the one to give her away, during the ceremony. And... I could really use your help. While I'm loathe to admit it, I know very little about modern traditions and customs. I want this to be the best day of her life... Leah deserves at least that much. And... I'm also a little scared she isn't ready, and may say no..."
This time, when you laugh, it is a full blown laugh. "I wouldn't worry about that. Just from the way she looks at you now, I can tell how much she loves you. But, if you think she needs time, then take it slow. Spend time with her, and allow yourselves to grow used to each other. Just don't let too much time pass. Regardless, you have my blessing, for whatever it's worth. And I'll be happy to help in any way I can."
Lazareth looks relieved, and he sighs. "You have my thanks. The first thing I need is to buy a ring... Hence why I wanted to tag along. Where is Helga, anyway?"
You shrug nonchalantly, grinning ever so slightly. "Who knows. I think she said she was going to set up shop in the third floor Common Room. But with her... Well, it usually isn't that difficult to find her. Just listen for the thundering shout."
Sure enough, it proves fairly easy to locate Helga. As soon as you reach the third floor, you can hear Helga's booming voice, haggling with your daughter about the price of a Silver Necklace.
"Rhia, darling? Having a bit of a problem, hmm?" You ask, smiling fondly.
She turns to you, and her entire face lights up like a star. Your daughter charges into your arms, and you laugh gently. "Easy, love. You were just at my side minutes ago. Now, what are you giving poor Helga grief about?"
Rhia looks up at you, beaming cheerfully. "Mistress Helga has this really pretty necklace. I was going to buy it for mother, but... Helga won't budge on the price! She's so mean, daddy!"
You blink, a little surprised by that. That doesn't sound like Helga at all. "Your allowance can't cover it?" You ask in disbelief. "I give you what, a thousand gold? More? Whenever you want it?"
Finding this all a bit difficult to swallow, you turn to Helga, who actually sighs. Will wonders never cease? "Your daughter has been trying to get me to lower the price to... Well, zero. I can go as low as a hundred gold, but I'm still running a business here Emperor. I can't give items away for free, not even to your little girl."
You turn to Rhia, your eyes narrowing. "Rhia? Is this true?"
She casually steps out of your arms, looking away and whistling innocently. You sigh in exasperation. "Here, Helga. I'll buy the necklace."
You dip into the pouch at your waist and hand Helga the money, and she hands Rhia a sparkling silver necklace. Rhia squeals with joy, clasping the necklace to her heart. "Thank you daddy!"
She places a quick kiss on your cheek, before skipping away, humming a song you've never heard before. Something about a braggart named Ragnar the Red? Hell if you know. With that taken care of, you turn back to Helga. "Let me see what you have, Helga. I'm probably going to need to stock up."
Helga beams, regaining her usual cheer. "Of course! I got so much stuff, I even have stuff for my stuff!"
