Well, most divorces happen after a few (I believe it's supposed to be 5-7) years of marriage, and with the slowly declining marriage rate, it would net the amount to around 30%-40% divorce rate. Anyways, marriage is supposed to be something that binds you to your partner, and the ring acts to remind you of your promise so you don't cheat on your spouse. Not that you would in the ideal marriage.
Also, fun fact: Marriages that consist of both partners not having any premarital sex are usually more successful. Marriages that are founded on sex aren't as likely to last.
