"Umm, not to be rude or anything...," Elia said softly, "but if we're going to go, we should it now. Please."
She pulled up her hood and tried to blend into the shadows as she waited, scared of what might happen if one of the mercenaries came to find her.
And if Jacob finds out about this, he'll never let me go with them. I need this chance, so while I'm still thinking clearly I can do something!

"Jam want see! Jam love stories!" Her ears perk up at the quiet sound of Elia's voice. "Cell girl right master. Let's go. Master lead since master know way there." She looks up at him anxious to go on a quest.

"Okay." Arcturus cleared his throat before opening a portal he had once made in the courtyard before pointing at it and shouting. "ONWARD TO VICTORY!"
He charged in like a madman, rushing through the portal and causing a visible ripple on its surface.

"For the tribe" Pearl called out in the ancient language as she charged ahead. She accidentally tripped into Elia knocking both through the portal. Luckily no one was hurt by the magik. Pearl got up slowly off Elia as she returned to her master's side. "Where now?" She ask still recovering.

"This way." Arcturus told Pearl as he pointed past a handful of trees to the cave entrance. "Elia, we're going to need you to create a light for us. I'll lead, Pearl will take back. When we're in an open space however, we'll get into a 12-4-8 formation with mysalf at 12, Pearl at 4, and Elia at 8."
Pearl should be able to handle herself, but Elia I'm not so sure. If she's at my left, I can cover her. Pearl would be more exposed though.

As he homes in on the disturbance caused by the white skinned tourist, Hamon begins to hear the man's speech. Before long, a small croud is formed around them, as evidently Hamon wasn't the only one who saw something interesting going on there.
"T-This is preposterous! How dare you come into these lands and make such vile claims about me! You know nothing! Nothing about us!" The stuttering merchant protests, suddenly turning to the audience he hadn't had moments before. "People! Please do not listen to what this man has to say!"
Hamon leans over to a bystander nearby who had been there before him. "What's going on...?" He whispers curiously.
"This foreigner thinks there's something wrong with the butcher's meat." He says sceptically. "Keeps going on about... 'The taste of forbidden flesh'."
"You will peddle your vile goods no longer!" The pale man yells in fluent Alibaic. "Citizens of Kadath, this man is not only a lying wretch, but a psychopathic killer as well! I have seen such horrid practices in the Northern reaches of Jorkun! He serves not pork, not foul, but human flesh, and he seeks to turn you all to his depravity!"
A few people from the croud gasp in horror, shocked looks all around. One young girl who had evidently eaten from that stand earlier begins to complain of illness.
"This man is lying to you!" The butcher insists. "He's a foreigner! Ignorant of our culture! He has no proof!"
"People of Kadath, is the consumption of tainted goods and the senseless murder of your fellow man a practice of your culture?" The pale man asks pleadingly, to a resounding 'no'. "Then I implore you, search the box underneath this man's stand. If he tells the truth, there is nothing to hide!"
Three men in the croud exchange curious glances, before taking it upon themselves to do as the stranger asks. To the merchant's ceaseless protest, and eventual restrainment, two of the three men look into the box spoken of, only to quickly throw it shut afterwards.
"This man speaks the truth." One says.
"See for yourselves, if you've got the guts." The other adds.
The merchant relents, his face twisting into an enraged grimace. "You bastard! You have no idea what it's like-!"
"We'll hear nothing else from you, you monster!" Yells the mother of the now vomiting girl.
"And under the eigth section of the second charter of Alibab's code of civil conduct, it is the right, nay, the duty of all citizens to execute offending parties!" The man yells, drawing his sword. "Have you not all bore witness to his transgression?"
The croud cheers out for the merchant's blood, watching intently is the pale skinned stranger steps forward and plants his blade into the merchant's chest, stepping back as he falls limp to the ground. Murmurs sweep the dissipating croud, as a man with crimson red hair approaches.
"You've done a great service to the people of Kadath, and to me as the leader of this district." Kaim says, stepping up to shake the foreigner's hand. "While I regret having been unaware of this man's grotesque dealings, I am glad to receive you and your heroic service, Belinus."
"Kaim." The man smiles, returning the shake. "You old dog! How have you been, my friend?"

Elia stood up and dusted herself off as she looked toward the cave.
I've never been through a portal before. That was strange.
"Alright, just give me a moment," Elia said.
She pulled out her knife and kept it in her right hand, while she made a sphere of light in her left hand. With a little effort, it was radiating a very bright light, although not blinding. She then moved it toward the entrance of the cave, directing it's course with her left hand.
I haven't done that in a very long time.
"Now, I have a few questions. Was I acting strangely earlier? And Pearl, you said something about yelling. Did I... did I yell at you?" she said, the tone of her voice revealing her normal, gentle self, the one who wouldn't hurt a fly.

"That wouldn't work." Arcturus whispered back into Pearl's ear. "You might be able to slide on ice easily, but Elia and I would be hindered far more than the werebats."
Why are you so cute when you're being stupid?

Pearl thinks about it for a few seconds before remembering that she was traveling with humans. Addressing Elia she says, "Elia more than yell at Jam, she call crazy. Jam not like yell at. Jam only let Beard man yell at Jam because Beard man sound funny. Elia nice when first meet Jam, but become mean at school. Jam not like call liar either." She follows the group at the back readying her Ice Bow for action. "Master, Jam sense enemy close."

Already? They shouldn't be attacking us so early.
"It's probably just a cave goblin." Arcturus assured them as he summoned Lenna and continued down further. "However, be on your guard just in case. No competent werebat would attack someone when they're this close to the entrance."

"I did all that? Pearl, I'm so sorry. I really am. But believe me, I would never do those things normally. I don't know what's gotten into me lately. Is there any way I can make it up to you?"
After this, I'll ask if they'll help me. Arcturus promised to help me, and I'll hold him to that.

"Jam forgive." She says with a regular smile, that soon becomes a muffled scream as she stabs the butterfly approaching from behind with her trident. She looks back at Arcturus with an embarrassed smile, "Jam find bad sense. Jam too high alert to use sense properly now. Jam keep quiet."

"Thank you, Pearl."
That's one less thing weighing down my conscience.
Elia hesitates a moment, trying to figure out where to start.
"Arcturus, earlier today you told me to just tell you if I need help. Did you really mean that?" she asks nervously.

"Yes, I meant it." Arcturus spoke as the tunnel began to grow steeper.
A lot of unprepared travelers must have died here or worse. Without a light, you wouldn't see the incline, and would trip on the little nubs of stone that dot the area.
Soon, they came across a small clearing in the cave. Despite Elia's bright light, it seemed as if the cave swallowed it and only spat out darkness. The open area meant they were exposed.
"Elia, ready any defenses you can, Pearl, cover our right flank!" he ordered them as he shuffled into formation. "Here they come!"
The cave erupted with the sound of fluttering wings as if on cue to Arcturus' prediction.
Time to kill some of these bastards.

"What's in this cave?!"
Elia frantically tried to figure out what to do, and settled on making rune of light on the floor that would help defend them from whatever was coming, and would help repel any undead or other creatures of darkness.
"Cover me for a second!" she commanded as she stood in the middle of the group and starting expanding the rune. "I need to make the rune a certain size for it to work, so you'll have to buy me some time!"
Elia was holding her hands close to each other, another sphere of light between them. She also start radiating light, and her eyes glowed slightly.
This would be a very bad time to tell them that I'm just winging it, and have no experience using magick in combat...

"Got it!" Arcturus shouted as three werebats flew into view.
Acting on instinct, he slowed the three down as one flew at him at top speeds, but Arcturus caught its head in an upwards strike, crushing its skull against the ceiling. The second one found itself in an unlucky position beneath a stalactite which prompted Arcuturus to crash Lenna into the cave floor, loosening the stone spear as he increased the gravity below it. As the blood of the second gushed out like a fountain, the third and final creature of the night snarled to summon more of its brethren before dropping to the floor to rush the group.
"Tch." Arcuturus scoffed as he opened up a portal beneath the beast along with one in front of him before reaching his arm through it and strangling it.
Age. Die as your body grows weak from lack of food. Perish along with all of those you have killed.
His gaze steeled itself as the werebat's larynx collapsed in on itself along with its neck breaking under the increased pressure. Crimson fluid flowed from its bulging eyeballs, flowing down and onto Arcturus' right hand.

"There! The rune will not only provide light, but it should raise or defenses and help repel these creatures. But don't be fooled, they'll still come, just not in large swarms."
Knowing now that they were fighting against were bats, Elia created a small spear of light, ready to use it against other werebats. She was also ready to summon a shield of light if it was needed.
This is one of the few times when my magick is good in combat.

"Stop try touch Jam creepies!" She runs a werebat through with her trident, letting the body go limp at the end of it. She swings it into another werebat sending it off with the corpse at high speeds. The alive werebat hits the cave wall with a crunch, dying from the crippling force. She leaps over one that tried to swoop down on her and stabs it's brain out, literally. Momentarily cleaning her lance, she allows a werebat to sneak up on her. It's about to screech for dizzying effects, when a hand comes out of the darkness and drags it in. A flaming, mutilated corpse is thrown back out into the horde. Jam does not see it as she gets back to work stabbing werebats. "More bat than Jam think are. How deal with them master?"

"There are several ways to kill werebats!" Arcturus explained loudly in between short bouts of hammering a werebat into the ground. "Every way you can kill a man plus more!"
A stream of werebats flooded in from a tunnel on the opposing end of the cavern, all of them crawling as they learned from their predecessors mistakes.
Speed is their ally when flying, but its useless against a Type-3.
One of the creatures on Arcturus' right bared its fangs before lunging at top speeds.
Now to show them that their attacks are futile.
Arcturus focused almost all of his spell on the one, slowing it down immensely. Then another hopped in front of the slowed one, as if to defend it.
All I'm doing is changing relative time. All things retain their momentum and force.
He smiled with sadistic glee as the slowed one's jaws reached the midsection of the defending werebat and clamped down on it, gushing out blood and guts.
Intelligence is the best weapon against the mindless hordes of monsters.
Arcturus thanked his unintentional ally by increasing its gravitational field, causing it to implode in a symphony of gore. However, his brief moment in the glory of battle was soon ended as he felt a sticky glob hit his right arm, sticking it to a nearby stalagmite. Joy turned to fear, but fear turned to satisfaction as a werebat closed in on him, preparing to bite him.
When will you learn?
As its fangs were just about to pierce Arcturus' flesh, he opened a portal that caused it to bite it's own arm and closed it, killing it and exposing its brain.
