"Likely for the military, possibly to serve in the emperor's court. I haven't seen all the people who must be involved in this, but when I woke up yesterday a man who must have been an important politician was there to make all the important decisions," Elia said after thinking about it for a minute. "And even if I'm given a high ranking position, think about it. There's no way they would do that if there was even a small chance of me talking. They'll make sure they've broken my will and they're in control. I'll just be a puppet."
No matter what happens in this scenario, I still lose everything.

"It's impossible for anyone but yourself to break your own will." Arcturus told her as he pressed his hand against the cave walls. "There are many forces that drive humanity. Love, Fear, Rage, Hate, Boredom, Hunger, Pride, Joy, Pleasure, Greed, Envy, and Hope. That last driving force is your strength to hold on to. However, you shouldn't worry about today's classes. Pearl accidentally put pretty much everyone to sleep in the dining hall. You could also get some extra credit if you're in Magical Plants and Creatures if you bring back a werebat part. That should more than make up for it."
Soon, the tunnel opened up into another clearing where the walls seemed to shine a dim grey.
"We're here." Arcturus announced as he picked up a rock and threw it at the wall.
The entire cave began to hum and glow a light blue as the wall revealed itself to be a gigantic golem.
Here we go.
Arcturus readied Lenna in his hands and casted a slow spell on the titan before it swung an arm down at the group.

"Woah, this thing is huge! Is this why you came here?"
Elia made sure to get far away from the golem's fist, and thought of something.
"Everything I know about golems I learned from books. I'm guessing our strategy is to go for the core, right?"
Elia knew that her knife wouldn't help in that fight, and she would have to help fight just because of the sheer size of the golem. Trying to figure out what she could make out of light that would be useful in that situation, she settled on forming a chain of light. As she made it longer, she waited for Arcturus to reply.

Arcturus grabbed Pearl and dove away from the golem's crashing arm before looking back and checking on Elia.
Good, she's alright.
His eyes scanned the beast of ore as it searched for its core.
It's a cobble-type, so brute force is our best bet. Just beat it down and beat it fast.
Arcturus let go of Pearl and rushed the golem's leg, smashing the back of its knee with a quick swing of Lenna.
"Pearl, freeze its pieces to the ground as they fall, otherwise, it'll just reform!" he shouted at the recovering nymph as some of the smaller bits began to gravitate back towards the main body. "Elia, use those chains to restrain its arms!"

"Okay!" Elia yelled as she started running in a circle around the golem, waiting for her best chance to restrain it.
Just keep calm. That's the only way to win.
Elia threw the chain at the golem's left arm, forming more of it as it went through the air. After the chain had wrapped around the arm a few times, Elia changed the form of it slightly, fusing the end of the chain with the rest of it that had wrapped around the arm, making it impossible for the golem to just slide it off.
"One arm down!"
She kept running, making a full lap around the golem. Once she had a good opening to bind the right arm, she made another chain extend from the main one and put the new chain on the ground while throwing the other end of the first chain around the arm. Just as she did on the last one, she fused the end of the chain with the rest.
After that she ran as fast as she could to reach the new chain, and picked it up. It was perfectly centered, making it easy to finish the process.
"It's almost done, just give m-"
She was hit by the golem's foot as it took a step backwards, and she was knocked back into a stalagmite. Not only had the golem hit her back, but she also had her back to the stalgamite when she rolled into it. Between the force of both of them, she was lucky that her back wasn't broken. Still, she couldn't move, and so all she could do was cry out in agony and watch as the chain slid away, beyond her reach.
"No!" she yelled as she watched it slip away, unable to continue working to restrain the golem. "I can't finish this. You'll have to do it. You need to grab the chain and pull it as tight as you can, and then Pearl needs to freeze it in place! Hurry, before it breaks loose!"

"Dammit!" Arcuturus shouted as he tried to ignore his better sense of humanity and go for the chain instead of Pearl.
Gah f*** it.
He opened a portal beneath Elia that transported to the entrance tunnel before making one for himself to the golem's arm.
"Pearl, now!" he shouted as he reached his arm through the portal to grab the chain and tighten it.

Wow it's huge! I bet it could withstand even my trident-
"Pearl, is that you?"
"Rhea! How are you reaching out to me?"
"Our spirits are still linked. Even if the distance between us great, our bond is still as strong. More importantly are you safe? That boy master send you off with hasn't tried anything funny? Are you getting enough to eat? Has-"
"I'm fine Rhea. I'm glad you're concerned. I was starting to think I'd never hear your voice again."
"Pearl... whatever happens, just promise you'll be careful."
"Of course I will! Wait wasn't I fighting something? Oh yeah the golem!"
"What do you think you're doing young lady?!"
Pearl exited the spiritual communication in time to hear Arcturus' order, but not in time to help Elia. "Jam not like monster that hurt friend!" She hurls her Trident for the beast's core as she draws her bow and freezes it's broken leg. The cracked arrow she shoots after explodes on contact with it's other leg, blowing frozen bits to the wall. The trident cuts the air itself as it nears the Golem. It breaks a hole through it's chest exposing the core. Not wasting a second she freezes the parts of it that fell, leaving it exposed. She then grabs the chain from Arcturus, "Master, now!"

It's showtime!
Arcturus altered his gravitational pull to allow him to run up the wall and onto the golem's restrained arm.
I haven't felt this great in forever!
He dragged Lenna across the golem's arm as he rushed to its core. Flying like a dragonfly, Arcturus backflipped off of the construct's arm and unleashed a crushing blow against its exposed core like the pit of a peach. The resulting explosion tossed Arcturus backwards, crashing him into Pearl as the many bits and bobs that made up the cobble-type collapsed, creating a pile of rubble.

Umm, is that- She shifts into her water form right as Arcturus crashes into her. this cushioned the blow for both of them as they hit the cave wall. Getting up from behind him, she decides to go check on Elia. "Elia ok? Need help?"

"Pearl. You beat the golem, huh? Anyway, no I'm not fine, my back... I need to get to some still, shallow water. Arcturus will have to use a portal. I can't... move, it hurts too much."
Elia was crying, just trying to cope with the pain.
If I can get to some water, I can use it for healing and pain relief. It's the only way I can heal my back quickly.

"We shouldn't have that problem." Arcturus overheard Elia from the opposite side of the cave as he stood up. "Did you forget that Pearl is a water nymph?"
Anyways, now for what we came for.
Arcturus walked on top of the pile of ore and collected the purest chunks before transporting them to his pocket dimension.

"If I can just get to a lake or something... I can use it for healing and pain relief. It could also help restore your mana and energy. Please..." said Elia.
I'm just here, not moving at all and in serious, visible pain. But don't mind me, take your sweet time.

"Oh, well in that case..." Arcturus rubbed his forehead before finding a spot in the cave to open a slipspace portal. "Here you go. Pearl, carry her in while I keep it stable. Plus, I think you'll enjoy the Pond of Ilias very much."
She should be able to use it even though its small.

"Jam will be gentle Elia." Still in water form, she carries her through the portal with Pearl's water hair washing over Elia's back. She lays her down by the pond as she calls back to Arcturus through the portal, "Master, please get Jam weapons."

It took every bit of restraint Elia had not to scream from the pain as Pearl picked her and carried her through the portal.
"Pearl, could you please put me in the shallow part of the water?" she pleaded.
So close to relief...

"In water? Ok. Please not scream. Look like much pain." She picks her up again and lowers her into the shallow end of the pond. "What Elia do in water?"

"Anything for you, milady." Arcturus teases Pearl a bit as she walks through the portal.
As soon as they were gone, he gave a huge sigh of relief.
I can't stand being in a room if there's a male to female ratio of at least 1:2.
After a few moments of gathering more ore and Pearl's weapons, Arcturus followed them inside the portal before closing it behind them. The Pond of Ilias was one of the few places that was left untouched by both man and monster. There were very few trees around the small body of water, but they were showered with pleasant golden sunlight.
"Hey, Pearl, we should have a picnic here sometime." he called enthusiastically, oblivious to Elia's extreme pain.

Arcturus, you're an idiot.
"Let me answer your question Pearl. It's something I started doing a long time ago. Normally I can heal and relieve pain using my magic, but it doesn't work well when I try to treat myself. But with the water, I can use it as a restorative just by using some of my magic. It will take time, but when you can't move, you have all the time in the world."
As Elia started to fill the lake with healing magic, her eyes glowed brightly. Soon the lake itself was shimmering, and the tears still on her face glowed softly.
"Can you see a change in the lake yet? If so, it's starting to work. You can benefit from this as well, just by getting in the water. If nothing else, it's very calming."

"Magic not work well on Jam, but water heal Jam natural. Jam see lake very pretty with Elia light. Water too shallow for Jam, but enjoy Elia company much!" She rest beside her on the grass as she calls Arcturus. "Jam like view. Jam want master to bring back."

"How about tomorrow?" Arcturus asked as he neared Pearl and sat down beside her. "You can come too Elia if you're hosts let you. Don't worry, I'll tell them you were helping us out at school and not fighting for your life outside of Shaldra. Experiments at Grangold can be far more dangerous."
Arcturus stuck his sandals in the water before standing up and removing his scholar's garb to reveal standard Cleatian plate armor.
"I'll think I'll go for a swim." he said to himself before running to the opposite side of the pond and diving in, nearly hitting his head on the earthen floor.
